For that reason, detailed biological, physical and chemical analyses of drinking water samples were carried out in different companies that produce sachet water in Mubi metropolis, Adamawa state. A number of parameters such as pH, turbidity, conductivity, total suspended solids (TSS), total dissolved solids (TDS), and heavy metals such as Cu, Zn, Mg, Fe, Cd, Pb, Cr, As, Hg, and Sn were analyzed for each water sample collected period the period of five weeks. The obtained values of each parameter were compared with the standard values set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and local standards such as National Drinking Water Quality Standard (NDWQS). The values of each parameter were found to be within the safe limits set by the WHO and NDWQS. Overall, the water from all the locations was found to be unsafe as drinking water. NAFDAC should carry out regular and frequent surveys of sachet water quality analysis for proper monitoring and management of sachet water production and its quality, Sachet water producing companies should endeavor to carry out proper treatment of the water they produce to ensure it is free of pathogens. Due to the associated effect of excess nitrate in drinking water on infants, it is recommended that some of these sachet waters be avoided for infant's consumption. This study recommends further studies to investigate the life of sachet water in the area beyond 5 weeks and to critically examine the biological quality of the sachet water produced in the area.

Sediment Concentrations and Particle-Size Analysis for Selected Channel Section of River Yedzeram... more Sediment Concentrations and Particle-Size Analysis for Selected Channel Section of River Yedzeram at Wuro-Gude, North eastern Nigeria was the main objective of the research. Equipment required for field measurements of suspended load sediment and bed load sediment included improvised suspended load sampler, Helley-Smith bed load sampler, inventory checklist, Sample ID forms (sampling information and identification) and labels, G.P.S, Camera, Ranging pole, Staff, tape, and Personnel. The sampling procedure used was area sampling technique through equal increment of width, using the same transit rate for all verticals and the same bill along the same cross-section. The cross-section of the river was divided in to fifteen (15) sections (2m) each with their definite boundaries, after which the use of systematic sampling technique was adopted and draws one sample from each section resulted to the total samples of fifteen (15) for the whole cross-section. The samples were subjected to laboratory analysis. The results obtained indicated that the mean volume of sediments that passed through Wuro-Gude station was 4658g within 20 second. The major particle of the channel bed was medium sand consisting of 25.10%, then gravel 17.45%, fine sand 15.56%, pebbles 7.14%, cobbles 2.32%, boulders 1.61%, silt 1.60%, and 0.02% clay contents. The Cu was 0.146 which was less than 4-6, while Cc was 0.896 below the range 1-3, which indicated that the sediment sizes were not well graded. The volume of 12,033.360g of suspended load passed through River Yedzeram at Wuro-Gude channel section. This result indicated that the volume of water that passed through Wuro-Gude was averagely turbid. It was recommended that; Awareness on the turbid nature of water that pass through Yedzeram channel around Wuro-Gude should be done, so as to reduce the level of negative effects of contaminated water on human and properties, secondly, there is a serious lack of hydrologic and morphometric records and data in the area. Therefore, much data gathering by appropriate agencies in the areas like Geomorphology, Hydrology, Geology, Soil science and Soil engineering required from relevant related fields is required. Dredging of the river channel should be done so as to remove the accumulated bed load particles that are presently cemented in the river. This will result to smooth flow of the water in the river.

The complex structure of rivers and increasing interest in quantitatively representing this compl... more The complex structure of rivers and increasing interest in quantitatively representing this complex structure has motivated the study of river dynamics, which has become an important subject in river science. This study analyzed spatiotemporal changes in the channel morphology of River Yedzeram section and its impacts in surroundings, North East Nigeria, Recent changes in the channel morphology of River Yedzeram segment from Wuro-Harde to Tappare Babeti Mubi North; Adamawa State of Nigeria was evaluated using thorough fieldwork and Geographical Information System (GIS) Analysis. Modifications such as channel width, channel depth, channel sinuosity and lateral channel movement processes in the channel segment were examined over the period of 13 years (2006 to 2019). The Results depicted that from 2006 to 2011 the average migration magnitude was 20.51m while the average migration rate was 3.96m/year). From 2011 to 2015 the average migration magnitude was 20.34m while the rate of migration was 4.39m/year. From 2015 to 2019 the average migration magnitude was 19.47m, while the rate of migration rate was 3.89m/year. A short term (2016 to 2019) channel deepening rate of 0.12m/year was also observed within the right bank section of the channel. Riparian buffer zones mapping and restriction policies against encroachment within the zones were recommended and serious need to enlighten and educate the public on the effects of their activities on the environment, which could result to detrimental landscape changes in the area.

This study ana channel morphology of River Yedzeram segment and its impacts in surroundings, North East Nigeria; recent metamorphosis in the channel morphology of the segment of River Yedzeram starting from Wuro-Harde to Tappare and Geographical Information System (GIS) Study. Modifications like channel width, channel depth, channel sinuosity and side by side channel migration practices in the channel segment were observed for the period of 13 years (2006 to 2019). The Results depicted that from 2006 to 2011 the average migration magnitude was 20.51m while the average migration rate was 3.96m/year).
