This article examines how the British press covered foreign takeovers between the July 2003 purchase of Chelsea and the January 2008 sale of Derby County. The thematic analysis of articles written around the times of each takeover identified 3 dominant media characterizations of incoming foreign owners: the rich enthusiast, the foreign invader, and the savvy custodian. Each characterization is explored in terms of four key dimensions: commitment, authenticity, finances, and character myths. The study suggests that in addition to media making globalization possible insofar as they actually carry sports across the globe, media, particularly sports journalism, might facilitate globalization simply by not questioning it.

The gold medal match to determine the best team in the world's most popular sport drew the attention of audiences from around the globe. Twitter exploded with second-by-second reports, with fans screaming in collective joy when goals were scored and metaphorically shaking their heads via text-speak when opportunities were missed. As the hotly contested 90 minutes drew to a close, a nation celebrated. The United States had brought home the gold. As the Nike shirts the players immediately donned in the wake of their victory declared, greatness was found on the pitch that day.

As one of the world’s most recognizable athletes, Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James is emblematic of the modern athlete-activist; as such, it is important to understand how the media frame him in the context of a controversial issue. In recent years, he has used it to quietly support the Black Lives Matter movement. In 2014, 12-year-old Tamir Rice was killed by police on a Cleveland playground, just miles from where the Cavaliers play and just north of James’s hometown of Akron. James declined to comment on the case, and a Twitter campaign—#NoJusticeNoLeBron—attempted to force his hand. This article examines the role of James as an athlete-activist, identifying four frames embedded in content around James and the Black Lives Matter movement: Brand LeBron; Established Voice, Higher Expectations; Attention, Not Aggression; and Community Versus Protest. E)-and (Z)-(fluoroalkenyl)boronates were prepared stereospecifically by the reaction of 2-fluoroalkylideneiodonium ylide generated from (E)-or (Z)-(2-fluoroalkenyl)iodonium salts with di(p-fluorophenoxy)alkylboranes, followed by transesterification to pinacol esters. The resulting pinacol esters of (fluoroalkenyl)boranes were used for the stereoselective synthesis of trisubstituted fluoroalkenes by crosscoupling reactions.

Cane rats (Thryonomyidae) are represented today by two species inhabiting sub-Saharan Africa. Their fossil record is predominately African, but includes several Miocene species from Arabia and continental Asia that represent dispersal events from Africa. For example, Paraulacodus indicus, known from the Miocene of Pakistan, is closely related to living Thryonomys. Here we describe a new thryonomyid, Protohummus dango, gen. et sp. nov., from the late Miocene Baynunah Formation of the United Arab Emirates. The new thryonomyid is less derived than "Thryonomys" asakomae from the latest Miocene of Ethiopia and clarifies the origin of crown Thryonomys and the evolutionary transition from Paraulacodus. A phylogenetic analysis shows Protohummus dango to be morphologically intermediate between Paraulacodus spp. and extinct and living Thryonomys spp. The morphological grade and phylogenetic position of Protohummus dango further supports previous biochronological estimates of the age of the Baynunah Formation (ca. 6-8 Ma).
