Nuclear power plants were born in 1950s. Taking only 30 grams of used fuel annually  for a person’s energy consumption many countries built their own nuclear power plants.  In this story, there is the fuel on one hand and the waste on the other. In general sense,  used up fuel rods from nuclear reactors and the waste from reprocessing plants are referred  to as nuclear waste. These wastes can be stored for decades in the cooling pools  of nuclear reactors (world-nuclear.org). Nuclear power plants are only one source of  nuclear wastes, the others are medicine, research facilities, oil and gas extraction, mining,  etc. Not all of this waste is produced inside reactors, but they come from concentrated  natural structures. This paper is aiming to address the problem of oil spills occurring on water bodies. 81% of oil spills that occur are less than 50 US barrels in volume and these are considered as minor spills. There is no perfect solution for this problem and oil spills are a real threat to nature. As an alternative way of combating smaller scale oil spills, Exfoliated Graphite (EG) is being examined. Production temperature of Exfoliated Graphite is effective in the oil capturing capacity and it is covered by results gathered from tests. The higher the exfoliation temperature, the more surface area Exfoliated Graphite gains, so this large surface area makes it possible to capture petroleum products and hold it. It is estimated that the oil will be sufficient for us for a couple of generations of humanity.  Forbes Magazine estimates we will run out of it between 2055 and 2070 (How  Much Oil Does the World Have Left, 2015). Also, in an International Business Times a  more specific date is given i.e. 2067 (World Energy Day 2014: How Much Oil is Left and  How Long Will It Last, 2014). The numbers stand for proved reserves, of course, as new  discoveries arise and technological recoverability upsurges, we may see a modification in  these estimations. And for coal, the most copious among fellow fossil fuels with proved reserves of  exceeding 841 billion tons, and almost 8 billion tons of it is used in the world each year  (World Energy Council, 2016). The question of “Are we experiencing a shale gas revolution or is it another earth polluting source of energy?” is yet to be answered.

Global climate change is backed up by 97% of research papers, and the authors accept this is a major problem for the planet. The rest of the papers however cannot bring sound proofs for their claims. The Arctic Ocean’s ice is melting fast. The navigation path is still blocked with sea ice but this is expected to an ice-free area before 2050. The Arctic shores are shared by the USA, Canada, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, and Russia. These states are already competing in order to get a bigger slice in the northern natural reserves cake. The following decades will see a scramble for the Arctic.

The paper looks at the issue of realization of global climate change, deglaciation of the Arctic Ocean and frequent hurricanes, and use of alternative fuels versus petroleum. Current statements of scientists and how they are viewed by the public are discussed. Future of oil is debated under the light of current global climate change. The author is aiming to underline different approaches to climate change and how it will affect the humanity in the near future.

We present a GPS-derived velocity field (1988)(1989)(1990)(1991)(1992)(1993)(1994)(1995)(1996)(1997)(1998)(1999)(2000)(2001)(2002)(2003)(2004)(2005) for the zone of interaction of the Arabian, African (Nubian and Somalian), and Eurasian plates. The velocity field indicates counterclockwise rotation of a broad area of the Earth's surface that includes the Arabian plate, adjacent parts of the Zagros and central Iran, Turkey, and the Aegean/Peloponnesus (>7 x 10 6 km 2 ; 5% of the Earth's total continental surface area) with motion rates in the range of 20 -30 mm/yr. This relatively rapid motion occurs within the framework of the slow-moving (~5 mm/yr relative motions) Eurasian, Nubian, and Somalian plates. The circulatory pattern of motion increases in rate towards the Hellenic trench system, suggesting to us that subduction in the eastern Mediterranean is the dominant process responsible for regional deformation. Using seismic and other geophysical and geological information, we develop an elastic block model and use the GPS velocity field to estimate relative block motions. We constrain present-day motions of the Nubian, Somalian, Arabian, and Eurasian plates (relative Euler vectors), regional deformation within the inter-plate zone, and slip rates for major faults. The elastic block model provides a reasonable fit to the observed motions with the principal block boundaries corresponding to known, seismically active faults, suggesting that this model represents a first approximation to the mechanical behavior of the

The effects of previous earthquakes on the 1999 Izmit and Duzce earthquakes, the influence of the Izmit earthquake on the Duzce earthquake, and the seismic hazard in the Marmara region are investigated using Coulomb failure stress. Calculation of the Coulomb stress changes using the fault parameters deduced from the modelling of the coseismic Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (InSAR) and GPS data shows that the Izmit earthquake occurred where the Coulomb stress was increased by the previous events. Despite the stress decrease on the Duzce Fault due to the events before 1999, the Duzce earthquake appears to have been triggered by the high increase in the static Coulomb stress transferred by the Izmit earthquake. The Duzce and the previous earthquakes increased the static stress in western and eastern Marmara by over 5 bars. Bu çalışmada İstanbul Fatih ilçesinde bulunan Sultan Ahmet Camii’nin içinde, dış avlularda, tüm alt bahçe alanlarında ve dış parsellerde gerçekleştirilen yeraltı haritalama çalışmaları anlatılmaktadır. Mayıs-Temmuz 2011 tarihleri arasında gerçekleştirilen arazi ölçümleri ve saha çalışmaları sonucunda Sultan Ahmet Camii oturum sahasının yaklaşık 30 metre derinliğe kadar olan kısımların yeraltı haritaları oluşturulmuştur. İstanbul Zonu'nun stratigrafisi ile ilgili birçok çalışma bulunmasına rağmen geçirdiği deformasyon evreleri konusunda yeterli çalışma bulunmamaktadır. İstanbul Zonu'nun yapısal evrimi ile ilgili bilinen en önemli deformasyon evrelerinden birisi Eosen yaşlı 'Şile Şariyajı' ile belirlenmiş K-G yönlü sıkışmadır. Ancak bu evre öncesi ve sonrasına dair yapısal veriler genellikle detaylı çalışılmamış ya da net olarak ayırtlanmamıştır. İstanbul Zonu'nun bugüne kadar geçirdiği yapısal evrelerin daha iyi anlaşılabilmesi için İstanbul'un doğusunda Maltepe-Kartal arasında detaylı arazi çalışması yapılmış, birimler haritalanmış ve yapısal veriler derlenmiştir. Çalışma alanında, İstanbul Paleozoyik istifine ait Ordovisiyen-Erken Karbonifer yaşlı çökel birimler, Geç Kretase yaşlı magmatik sokulumlar ve Miyosen ve Kuvaterner yaşlı birimler bulunmaktadır. Paleozoyik istife ait birimlerde ve Miyosen çökellerinde ölçülen faylar, kıvrımlar, çatlak sistemleri, tabaka yönleri ve sokulumlar ile bunların birbirleriyle olan ilişkileri ayrıntılı olarak çalışılmıştır. Derlenen veriler değerlendirilerek, yapıların birbirini kesme-kesilme ilişkileri göz önüne alınmış ve 5 deformasyon evresi belirlenmiştir. Deformasyon evresi 1 (D 1 ), KB-GD yönlü sıkışmayı gösteren, inceleme alanında mostra ölçeğinde gözlenebilen KD-GB gidişli kıvrımlar ve bu kıvrım eksenlerine paralel gelişen bindirme ve oblik ters faylar ile tanımlanmıştır. Deformasyon evresi 1 (D 1 ), KB-GD yönlü sıkışmanın devam etmesiyle birlikte ilksel oluşan kıvrım eksen ve kanatları ve fayların progresif olarak yeniden kıvrılması ile sonuçlanmıştır. Deformasyon evresi 2 (D 2 ), KD-GB yönlü gerilmeyi işaret eden ve D 1 evresine ait yapıları kesen normal faylarla temsil olunur. Deformasyon evresi 3 (D 3 ), DKD-BGB yönlü sıkışma ve KKB-GGD yönlü açılmayı gösteren Erken Kretase yaşlı dayklar, dayk sınırlarına paralel gelişmiş doğrultu atımlı faylar, daykları kesen ve dayklar tarafından kesilen faylardan oluşmaktadır. Deformasyon evresi 4 (D 4 ), K-G yönlü sıkışma ile ifade edilir. Bu evre, çalışma alanında büyük ölçekli, D-B eksenli kıvrımlar ile belirlenmiştir. Bu döneme ait büyük ölçekli D-B uzanımlı şaryajlar özellikle İstanbul kuzeyinde (Karadeniz kıyı çizgisine paralel) uzun mesafeler boyunca izlenebilmektedir. Deformasyon evresi 5 (D 5 ), KD-GB yönlü açılmayı gösteren ve Miyosen yaşlı Çukurçeşme Formasyonu'nu kesen normal faylarla tanımlanmıştır. Bu yapısal ilişkilere ve litoloji-yapı ilişkilerine dayanarak, D 1 evresinin Karbonifer sonrası Triyas öncesinde, D 2 evresinin Triyas sonrası Geç Kretase öncesinde, D 3 evresinin Geç Kretase döneminde gelişmiş dayklarla eş zamanlı olarak, D 4 evresinin Eosen sonrası-Miyosen öncesinde ve D 5 evresinin Miyosen sonrasında gelişmiş olduğu düşünülmektedir. Bu sonuçlar belirli bir bölgeden elde edilmiş olup, farklı bölgelerden elde edilecek verilerin birleştirilmesiyle İstanbul Zonu'nun yapısal evrimi üzerine daha ayrıntılı sonuçlar elde edilebilecektir.
