Awareness and participation of future teachers in feminist activities was also questioned through the study. The preparedness of prospective teachers to join women's rights movement in Pakistan was also examined. A close ended questionnaire was developed to search the answers of research questions. Viewing the time constraints, the study was delimited only to three public sector university campuses/departments in Punjab (Pakistan). Findings revealed unorganized awareness of women's rights among prospective teachers. Commitment of the respondents and departmental efforts to promote their dedication with women's rights movement were also weak. Inclusion of women's rights as a separate subject in teacher education curricula was recommended in the study. Enhanced role of teacher training institutions and women's rights activists ...

This study intended to examine the role of three religious orientations (Allport and Ross 1967) in students demonstrating these psychological symptoms. A sample comprising 502 Pakistani girls studying at university level was randomly selected. Age Universal I-E Scale and Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale were used to collect data. Findings reveal an inverse relationship between extrinsic personal religious orientation and symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress among the respondents. Results support the integration of religious orientations in mental health care of young adults in Pakistan.

The resulting products were then characterized by melting point determination, calculation of Rf values and LC-MS techniques. At last, structure activity relationship (SAR) of the synthesized compounds was evaluated against two microbial strains; Bacillus subtilis and Aspergillus niger. All the five prepared products have shown high yield, sharp characterization and significant resistance against the growth of tested microorganism, providing a new range of tryptamine based benzamide derivatives having significant antimicrobial activities.

It is often seen in the head and neck region of young adults and may be present for years. While there have been numerous case reports of malignant degeneration within ES, they have been mostly carcinomatous dedifferentiation and rarely carcinosarcomas. A malignant mixed tumor is a neoplasm with a malignant epithelial component and areas of chondroid and myxoid differentiation within the malignant epithelial proliferation. While the epithelial component is malignant, the mesenchymal component is felt to represent a benign, metaplastic response of the stroma. While the malignant mixed tumor has a benign counterpart, the benign mixed tumor, the former is usually not seen in continuity with the latter. We describe a case of ES with malignant degeneration and demonstrate the transformation from benign to malignant. The histology and immunohistochemistry of the neoplasm supports a malignant mixed tumor, an extremely unusual neoplasm to see in association with ES or any benign adnexal neoplasm.

In the present study, XAFS spectroscopy has been employed to determine the local structure of nanoparticles of zinc ferrites (ZnFe 2 O 4) prepared in two different media, i.e., citric acid and urea. XAFS data have been collected, at the Elettra Synchrotrone, Trieste, Italy, for the K-edges of Zn and Fe in transmission mode. X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure (XANES) spectroscopy has been employed to understand the role of nucleation/crystallization of ZnFe 2 O 4 depending upon the nature of solvent precursor. From the Extended X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (EXAFS) data analysis we observe a systematic variation of radial distribution around Zn K-edge synthesized in urea as compared to citric acid, at different temperatures. Whereas, the local structure of Fe for samples synthesized in citric acid and urea does not ...

Recent studies showed decreased mortality with good functional outcome in young people with decompressive surgery. We report prospective, non-randomized case series of live patients in whom successful life saving decompressive craniectomy was performed. All five were males. Mean age was 59.2 +/- 13 years. Four had right MCA infarction while I had left MCA infarction. Ipsilateral temporoparietal craniectomy with duraplasty was performed in mean time of 76 +/- 27 hours after onset of symptoms. Four (80%) patients were discharged to home in awake, alert, conversant, hemiparetic state. One patient developed status epilepticus, and was transferred to another facility in intubated. sedated state. Three month follow-up on three patients showed moderate improvement in neurological status. Early craniectomy was life saving in all of our patients. Neurosurgical intervention should be considered early in large MCA i...

Impact of Family Ownership on Firm's Financial Performance : A Comparison Study between Manfucturing Firms and Financial Firms in Pakistan
Nigerian Chapter of Arabian Journal of Business and Management Review, 2014
ABSTRACT This Paper examines the impact of family ownership on the firm’s financial performance i... more ABSTRACT This Paper examines the impact of family ownership on the firm’s financial performance in Pakistan. The secondary data is taken for the period of 2007 to 2011 considering a total sample of four business firms. These are consisting of two manufacturing as well as two financial firms listed on Karachi Stock Exchange of Pakistan. Different studies are unable to discuss the relationship between family ownership and performance of the companies. Financial performance of the company is taken as dependent variable. Return on asset and return on equity are used to measure dependent variable. Family ownership is used as independent variable. Correlation and linear regression model is used to check the relationship. Results showed that there is positive and significant relationship between the family ownership and financial performance of the firms. Good governance not only increases the profits of the firms but also improves overall performance of the firms.

The treatment effect, alone, and in their possible combinations, showed a significant difference with one another, regarding their effectiveness. A combination of treatments, viz., seed treatment, spray with imidacloprid and installation of yellow sticky traps, was found the most effective and resulted in a minimum population of jassid, per leaf, on okra; whereas, the effect of seed-treatment and installation of yellow sticky traps, alone, did not show distinctive effect on the pest population. A significant decrease in the jassid-population was observed in those plots, where imidacloprid was sprayed, alone, or in combination with other treatments. The seeds treated with imidacloprid, remained effective against the jassids up to 38 days, after sowing. The combination of seed-treatment + spray of imidacloprid + installation of yellow sticky traps, showed a maximum yield of okra.

Crop was sown on well prepared soil in 1 st week of March, 2007. The experiment was laid out according to randomized complete block design. The treatments comprised of different chelated zinc sources: ZnSO 4 -DTPA, ZnSO 4 -Fulvate, ZnSO 4 -Lignosulphonate, ZnSO 4 -EDTA and ZnSO 4 -H 2 O along with control (no zinc), repeated three times. Results showed that number of cobs plant -1 , grain rows cob -1 and oil contents did not differ significantly. However, differences among treatments for plant height at harvest (cm), leaf area plant -1 (cm 2 ), stem diameter (cm), cob length (cm), cob diameter , 100-grains weight (g), number of grains cob -1 , grains weight cob -1 (g), biological yield (tons ha -1 ), grain yield (tons ha -1 ) and protein contents (%) were significantly higher. Moreover, results also revealed that ZnSO 4 -DPTA was found the most effective Zn chelated source among all the treatments. Rest of the chelating agents were not too impressive as they showed varied response for different variables. The result of this experiment suggest further experimentation to explore behaviour of Zn-DTPA with other macro and micro nutrients and to calculate cost benefit ratio for use of Zn chelated compounds.

However, very little studies exist about their population and ecology in the country. The present study, therefore, investigated habitat analysis and population status of three falcon species; red-headed merlin Falco chicquera, common kestrel Falco tinnunculus and saker falcon Falco cherrug, in district, Chakwal Pakistan. Eight potential sampling sites were selected through surveillance surveys. Line transects were established in the selected sites for data collection and monthly visited from May 2009 to June 2010. For habitat analysis, data were recorded about trees using "Point-centered quarter" method, while shrubs and herbs were estimated using "quadrate method" and analyzed in terms of density and frequency of trees, shrubs and herbs, and "Importance Value Index" (IVI) for tree species. Red-headed merlin was found in five sites with average population of 0.238 ± 0.06 birds /km 2 , common kestrel in five sites with mean density of 0.246 ± 0.05 birds /km 2 , whereas saker falcon in only two sites having average density of 0.245 ± 0.06 birds /km 2 . Red-headed merlin and saker falcon were found resident while common kestrel was winter visitor plus resident in the study area.

Many products for rapid dengue diagnosis are available in the market; the performance of few selected products was evaluated and compared with enzyme linked immuno sorbent assays (ELISA). Methods: Sera from a large number of patients (n=184) admitted to National Institute of Blood Diseases & Bone Marrow Transplantation (NIBD) were used to determine the efficiency of non-structural (NS) 1, IgA, IgG and IgM based rapid test devices for dengue diagnosis. Results: The dengue NS1 antigen based device was least efficient while among the antibody based devices the dengue IgA rapid test (RDT) was comparatively better (specificity: 80.95%; sensitivity: 85.21%). This device could detect both primary and secondary dengue infection and was found to be the most sensitive device at all point of sample collection. Conclusion: The dengue IgA RDT could be a cost effective and efficient rapid test device for timely dengue diagnosis at all levels of healthcare settings.
