In this context, it is crucial to understand how fitness is conceived and implemented to explore the “interestingness,” beauty, or creativity that the system is capable of. In this paper, we survey the recent research on fitness for evolutionary art related to aesthetics. We also cover research in the psychology of aesthetics, including relation between complexity and aesthetics, measures of complexity, and complexity predictors. We try to establish connections between human perception and understanding of aesthetics with current evolutionary techniques.

The accurate representation of existing objects of complex curved geometry, which are subsequently geometrically modified by evolutionary morphogenetic processes, is analysed. To this end, as a method of representation and generation of complex geometries, a point-based genetic algorithm and the use of large unstructured point clouds are proposed. A study of convergence and diversity of the implemented algorithm is detailed, as well as a comparison with the Coyote optimisation algorithm in terms of representation error demonstrating its efficiency. Some commonly used three-dimensional formats in architecture, such as NURBS and polygon meshes, are analysed, and compared against point clouds. This study also includes an evaluation regarding whether the use of point clouds is a more suitable format for realistic representation, rationalisation and genetic morphogenesis.

But, even more "simple" task such us have aesthetic taste is very hard to a computer system. In this paper we will present some information about how to building a system that learn to predict the aesthetic and quality value. We will also show preliminary results into a experiment where human evaluate different images based on its quality and aesthetic value. Finally we will show some of the possibilities of this technology.

In this document the limitations found in different datasets used to classificate and predict aesthetic values are exposed, and a new dataset is proposed with images from the DPChallenge.com portal, with evaluations of three different populations.

In this review, different articles after the year 2016 are analyzed mostly focusing on those that are not mentioned in earlier publications. Most of the articles analyzed used a combination of Markov chains and cellular automata to predict the growth of urban areas and metropolitan regions. We noticed that most of these simulations were applied in various areas of China. An analysis of the publication of articles in the area over time is included.

This is due, on the one hand, to the potential impact that predicting the aesthetic value has on practical applications. Even so, it remains a difficult task given the subjectivity and complexity of the problem. An image aesthetics assessment system was developed in recent years by our research group. In this work, its potential to be applied in commercial tasks is tested. With this objective, a set of three portals and three real estate agencies in Spain were taken as case studies. Images of their websites were taken to build the experimental dataset and a validation method was developed to test their original order with another proposed one according to their aesthetic value. So, in this new order, the images that have the high aesthetic score by the AI system will occupy the first positions of the portal. Relevant results were obtained, with an average increase of 52.54% in th...

These approaches have used a variety of experimental sets of images from several photography sites. In this chapter, the authors look at some of the most widely used in the field of computational aesthetics as well as the capacity for generalization that each of them offers. Furthermore, a set of images built up by psychologists is described in order to predict perceptual complexity as assessed by a closed group of persons in a controlled experimental setup. Lastly, a new hybrid method is proposed for the construction of a set of images or a dataset for the assessment and classification of aesthetic criteria. This method brings together the advantages of datasets based on photography websites and those of a dataset where assessment is made under controlled experimental conditions.

Programs control the simulated robots using low-level messages (e.g., turn radar, accelerate). Unlike other tools like Robocode, each of these robots can be developed using different programming languages. Our purpose is to generate, without human programming or other intervention, a robot that is highly competitive in RealTimeBattle. To that end, we implemented an Evolutionary Computation technique: Genetic Programming. The robot controllers created in the course of the experiments exhibit several different and effective combat strategies such as avoidance, sniping, encircling and shooting. To further improve their performance, we propose a function-set that includes short-term memory mechanisms, which allowed us to evolve a robot that is superior to all of the rivals used for its training. The robot was also tested in a bout with the winner of the previous “RealTimeBattle Championship”, which...

Currently, the Internet is the main channel of socialization and marketing, where we seek to communicate in the most efficient way possible. People receive a large amount of information daily and that is where the need to attract attention with quality content and good presentation arises. Social networks, for example, are becoming more visual every day. Only on Facebook can you see that the success of a publication increases up to 180% if it is accompanied by an image. That is why it is not surprising that platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram have grown so much, and have positioned themselves thanks to their power to communicate with images. In a world where more and more relationships and transactions are made through computer applications, many decisions are made based on the quality, aesthetic value or impact of digital images. In the present work, a quality prediction system for digital images was developed, trained from the quality perception of a group of humans.

To this end, certain areas such as Computer Vision have focused on identifying features and computational models that allow for satisfactory results. This paper studies the application of recent ML models using input images evaluated by humans and characterized by features related to visual complexity. According to the experiments carried out, it was confirmed that one of these methods, Correlation by Genetic Search (CGS), based on the search for minimum sets of features that maximize the correlation of the model with respect to the input data, predicted human ratings of image visual complexity better than any other model referenced to date in terms of correlation, RMSE or minimum number of features required by the model. In addition, the variability of these terms were studied eliminating images considered as outliers in previous studies, observing the robustness of the method when selecting the most important variables to make the prediction.
