In 2018 a large group of Yemeni refugee migrants arrived in Jeju Island, South Korea because of an unforeseen confluence of political and economic pressures in Yemen and a combination of a visa-free policy and cheap airfare from Malaysia to Jeju. They are now semi-permanent residents on the island with no option to re-migrate. A multidimensional set of theoretical themes including social exchange and role identity among stakeholders; power and alienation; and trust and social responsibility are used to evaluate residents' subjectivities toward Yemeni refugee migrants to Jeju. This is applied to the theoretical interpretation of the public discourse on Yemeni migration to identify residents' attitudes using Q method. Four clusters of subjectivity are found, grouped around an antirefugee sentiment. Interaction with and responsibility for this refugee immigrant population is largely rejected. Practical implications are that structural changes in policy or attitude changes through education are necessary to secure any form of social sustainability for the resident-refugee relationship in Jeju. The implication is that the set of theoretical themes used in this study offers a valuable path to finding empirical solutions to the refugee migration problem in tourism research.

Multiple regression analysis was applied to analyze the sample of South Korean hotel customers and to test the hypotheses of the study. It was found that when hotel customers faced the same kind of risk, they adopted different information search strategies to reduce various risks during the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, ‘following hotel employee’s advice’ was perceived to be the most important information search strategy to reduce risks. This is the first study to compare the differences of perceived risk and information search strategies under the COVID-19 pandemic and normal conditions to help hotels to develop more effective strategies to recover from the pandemic. The results of the study should be interpreted with care since it was based on Korean hotel customers. The influence of cultural differences in percei...

The results show that government subsidies, tax preferences, self-owned funds, and equity financing have significant positive incentives for enterprise innovation, and the incentive intensity is gradually weakened while bank loans will hinder enterprise innovation. The impacts of various financing channels on enterprise innovation vary with the different stages of the enterprise life cycle, and the overall performance is weakened with the advancement of the life cycle. According to the grouping research of property rights, it is found that the impacts of various financing channels on the innovation of non-state-owned enterprises are more significant than those of state-owned enterprises. Further research finds that the influence of each financing channel on en...

The Tobit model is used to investigate the influence of mental health status with depression degree as a proxy variable on the health consumption of the elderly in China. The results show that the overall effect and the phased effect of depression on the health consumption of the elderly are positive. In other words, high levels of depression lead to a higher probability and amount of health consumption. Research findings show that chronic illness and increased social activity can weaken the effect of depression on the health spending of the elderly. Fully considering the factors affecting the mental health of elderly people is required to improve their level of mental health. Importantly, the quality audit system of health products and the supervision and management system of the heal...

Change propensity analysis (CPA) is utilized to examine the current use and predict future trends of media elements in media marketing activities of hotel companies. A survey is conducted with a focus on domestic media users with a previous experience of acquiring domestic and international hotel information through media. The results indicate that certain demographic factors moderate the relationship of certain media elements. In addition, the results of CPA demonstrate which media elements have high importance as well as utilization and which ones have not. For instance, emoticons are found to be the least effective media element used in media marketing. Future trends of media elements in media marketing activities of hotel companies are evaluated using CPA and suggest a number of activities that will emerge. Finally, implications and suggestions for the future research are discussed based on the results.

Grown agriculture is an important component of a rural destination attraction. Nonetheless, tourists’ satisfaction with locally grown agricultural food has been unexplored when it comes to linking tourism with agriculture. The purpose of this study is to develop an understanding of the links between demand for locally grown agricultural products at the destination and the levels of satisfaction among visitors. Theoretical views concerning tourist consumption of local agricultural products and its effects were reviewed. Unstructured in-depth interviews were conducted onsite in Tiantangzhai to investigate the relationship between tourism and agriculture with visitor satisfaction. The sample of respondents consisted of 71 participants who shared their views on the relationship between agriculture and tourism at the destination. Findings were presented in a two-level anal...
