Elisheva Baumgarten

Elisheva Baumgarten is the Prof. Yitzhak Becker Chair for Jewish Studies at the Hebrew University where she teaches in the History and Jewish History Departments. She studies the social history of the Jews of Medieval Ashkenaz. She led the research project Beyond the Elite: Jewish Daily Life in Medieval Europe (https://beyond-the-elite.huji.ac.il/book/about) funded by the European Research Council 2016-2022. In Fall, 2022, with the conclusion of this project, she is launching a new research project funded by the Israel Science Foundation as part of their Breakthrough Research Grant. This project, Contending with Crises, will study the Jews of Fourteenth Century Europe.
