Abstract

The process of buying and selling communication in Asembagus Traditional Market often experiences language contact because the sellers and buyers come from several ethnicities who have different languages ​​and cultures. This study aims to determine the form of code-switching and code-mixing speech between sellers and buyers in Asembagus Market, Situbondo. The method used in data collection is the engaging listening method with the technique of recording, taking notes, interviews and descriptive qualitative approaches. The results showed that there were 12 forms of code switching speech and 10 speech code mixtures between sellers and buyers at Asembagus Situbondo Market Kampong. Master more than one language and speakers try to build an atmosphere of speech with mixed languages, while the functions of code-switching and code-mixing speech used by sellers and buyers at Pasar Kampong are to adjust the social context and to smooth and build the communication process of bargaining, transactions, and interactions.

Abstract

Kangean is an island that has various traditions, one of which is the engagement tradition. Today, the engagement tradition has undergone a drastic shift, due to the presence of technological media, such as television, cell phones, the internet, and the like. Television, which is basically a medium of entertainment for the wider community, however, for the kangean community, television is one of the causes of social and cultural changes. This study aims to uncover and describe the causes of these changes. This study uses data analysis. Qualitative methods are methods that aim to obtain descriptive data. The data in this study are conversations related to the causes of socio-cultural shifts, the data is transcribed into written texts. The data was collected by interviewing, selecting, describing and verification techniques. Data were analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method which is based on Siswantoro's theory. The results of this study indicate that non-educational shows on television such as soap opera films, promiscuty, blue film, tiktok, life style, speaking style and dress patterns are greatly affect the kangean community especially among teenagers. The negative affects for Kangean teenagers are on social life, lifestyle, speaking style, promiscuty, drug addicts, violating customs, traditions and culture. Therefore, policies are needed to limit the scope of globalization to which ones should be implemented and which should be rejected. This requires the role of the government of the kangean community to act through policies that are more directed at socio-cultural considerations.

Abstract

Comparative adjectives of Kangean Dialect of Madurese Language (KDML) are the basic adjectives that has A+D+(-an) stucture or lebbi. This study explored the function of comparative adjectives in KDML and its impact for the Kangean community. The theories used to explore and determine the comparative adjective function are descriptive and pragmatic theories. The research is a qualitative research. The method used in this research is the participatory observation method. The data were obtained from interviews with the dialect speakers by voice recording and field note-taking. Besides, researchers used the introspectiveve method (reflective-introspection method). The data that has been collected were transcribed into written form of orthographic transcription, then translated and classified according to its function. The method applied for analyzing the data are equivalent and distributional method. Meanwhile, the methods used for displaying the results of data analysis are informal and formal steps. The results showed that in KDML, there are several functions of comparative adjectives, namely to motivate, praise, admonish, command, insinuate, advise, criticize and accuse. Meanwhile, the impact of adjective utterances, people become more optimistic, comfortable, easy to appreciate, entertained, strong, cautious, deterred, and humble. Adjektiva komparatif bahasa Madura dialek Kangean (BMDK) merupakan adjektiva dasar yang memiliki struktur A+D+(-an) atau lebbi. Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi fungsi adjektiva komparatif dalam BMDK dan dampaknya bagi komunitas Kangean. Teori yang digunakan untuk menggali dan menentukan fungsi adjektiva komparatif adalah teori deskriptif dan pragmatik. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode observasi partisipatif. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara dengan penutur dialek Kangean melalui rekaman dan catatan lapangan. Selain itu, peneliti menggunakan metode introspektif (metode reflektif-introspekturis). Data yang sudah terkumpul ditranskrip ke dalam bentuk tulisan dengan transkripsi ortografis, kemudian diterjemahkan dan diklasifikasikan sesuai fungsinya. Metode yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data adalah metode ekuivalen dan metode agih dan metode yang digunakan untuk menampilkan hasil analisis data adalah langkah-langkah formal dan nonformal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam BMDK terdapat beberapa fungsi adjektiva komparatif yakni untuk memotivasi, memuji, menegur, memerintah, menyindir, menasihati, mencela dan menuduh. Sedangkan dampaknya adalah masyarakat lebih optimis, peka, mudah menghargai, terhibur, kuat, berhati-hati, jera, dan rendah diri.

Abstract

Indonesia is called a plural country because it consists of various ethnic groups, races, religions, cultures and languages. Thus, the Indonesian people are prone to conflict, especially those related to religious differences. This phenomenon often occurs among teenagers, especially at Tapal Kuda area. The factors that underlie this are the existence of personal interests, the influx of radicalism, economic business, lack of tolerance, increasing politics, fading of local wisdom, excessive sensitivity, miscommunication, and lack of tabayyun attitude. Therefore, this study presents the concept of religious moderation in order to stem this. This study aims to stem the conflict with the concept of religious moderation through a linguistic approach and local wisdom. This research is a qualitative research with observation and interview methods. The data were obtained from interviews with the Tapal Kuda speakers by voice recording and field note-taking. In addition, the researchers also used reflective-introspective methods. The results of this study indicate that (1) The underlying factors are the existence of personal interests, the entry of radicalism, economic business, lack of tolerance, increasing politics, fading of local wisdom, excessive sensitivity, miscommunication, and lack of tabayyun attitude. (2) the concept of religious moderation with a linguistic approach and local wisdom as an alternative solution in stemming conflicts.

Abstract

AbstractHarmony between religious communities is everyone's dream, but living in a plural society is very difficult to avoid conflict. Therefore, this research is presented in order to provide views related to the concept of knitting harmony between religious communities through linguistics and local wisdom. This study aims to identify and describe the role of linguistic concepts and local wisdom in knitting inter-religious harmony at Tana Toraja land with a phenomenological approach. This research is a qualitative research with observation and interview methods. Data obtained from interviews with Tana Toraja speakers by voice recording and field note-taking. In addition, the researcher was assisted by the experience of the informants by using the reflective-introspective method. The results of the study show that (1) the linguistic concept can prevent misunderstandings, violence, fanaticism, be sensitive and be able to make inter-religious people aware of the grace of diversity at Tana Toraja land so as to create humanist communication. (2) the role of local wisdom can build solidarity, togetherness, harmonious relations, and religious awareness in a plural society so as to create peaceful social relations. The role of linguisitics and local wisdom can make Tana Toraja societies have harmony relation with others without see the status (race, ethnic, religion, and so on). AbstrakKerukunan antar umat beragama merupakan dambaan setiap orang, namun hidup dalam masyarakat majemuk sangat sulit untuk menghindari konflik. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini dihadirkan untuk memberikan pandangan terkait konsep merajut kerukunan antar umat beragama melalui linguistik dan kearifan lokal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan mendeskripsikan peran konsep linguistik dan kearifan lokal dalam merajut kerukunan antar umat beragama di tanah Tana Toraja dengan pendekatan fenomenologis. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode observasi dan wawancara. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara dengan masyarakat Tana Toraja dilengkapai dengan teknik rekam dan catat. Selain itu, peneliti dibantu oleh pengalaman informan dengan menggunakan metode reflektif-introspektif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) konsep kebahasaan dapat mencegah terjadinya kesalahpahaman, kekerasan, fanatisme, peka dan mampu menyadarkan umat antar umat beragama akan anugerah keberagaman di tanah Tana Toraja sehingga tercipta komunikasi yang humanis. (2) peran kearifan lokal dapat membangun solidaritas, kebersamaan, hubungan yang harmonis, dan kesadaran beragama dalam masyarakat majemuk sehingga tercipta hubungan sosial yang damai. Peran linguistik dan kearifan lokal dapat membuat masyarakat Tana Toraja memiliki hubungan yang harmonis dengan orang lain tanpa melihat status (ras, suku, agama, dan sebagainya).

Abstract

Superlative adjectives of Madura Kangean Dialect (MKD) are  repetitive adjectives that has R+D+(-an) structure or paleng. Superlative adjectives in MKD are used to describe different functions of utterances according to the contexts. The native people of Kangean island possess a distinctive dialect called Kangean dialect. This study explored the functions of superlative adjectives in MDK. Theories used to determine the functions of superlative adjectives in this research are descriptive and pragmatic theory. This study employed participatory observation method. The data were obtained from interviews with the dialect speakers by voice recording and field note -taking. In addition, the researchers also used reflective-introspective method. The collected data were then transcribed into written form of orthographic transcription. The method applied for analyzing the data are equivalent and distributional method. Meanwhile, the methods used for displaying the results of data analysis are informal and formal steps. The results of this study indicate that superlative adjectives of MKD have different functions, such as for giving motivation, praise, reprimand, satire, advice, orders, blemishes and accusations.

Abstract

Manbaul Ulum Islamic boarding school is a classical Salaf educational institution that develops its educational curriculum based not only on nushus sharia but also on maqashidus sharia. Technically, the curriculum development is oriented towards the construction of the character of tawazun, i'tidal, and tawassuth in religion. The research on the development of a religious moderation curriculum is of utmost importance because it aims to prevent extremism, enhance understanding and tolerance among different religions, and instill ethical and moral values within the religious context. This study aims to explore the development of an Islamic education curriculum in building religious moderation in the Islamic boarding school Manbaul Ulum Bondowoso. This research is field research with a qualitative approach. Data were obtained by using data collection instruments in the form of observation, documentation, and interviews. Then the data were analyzed with qualitative data analysis of the Miles and Huberman model. The validity of the data was tested by triangulation. The results showed that first, the Manbaul Ulum Islamic boarding school developed a pesantren learning curriculum based on maqashid shari'ah and not only on nushus shari'ah, which in this case has the principles of Tawazun, I'tidal, and Tawassuth  in thinking and acting; second, the curriculum developed at the Manbaul Ulum Islamic boarding school is oriented to build religious moderation in the students so that they can preach it after associating with the wider community.   Keywords: Islamic Education Curriculum, Manbaul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Religious Moderation

Abstract

Globalization is a reality that humans must accept and penetrates various aspects of life, such as the economy and education. Education is not anti-globalization, but through education, there should be filtering of globalization that supports the realization of national education goals. Therefore, the position of the curriculum is seen as the basis for fortifying a generation aware of the superiority of local culture. This study aims to reveal the rationality of genre-based local culture in the curriculum, the elements of local culture teaching, and the design of the gradation of genre-based local content of Malay culture. The researcher uses a descriptive qualitative approach with the library research method to analyze the Malay cultural genre contained in the curriculum through data sources in the form of articles, books, and scientific reports. The result of this research is the implementation of Malay genre-based local content subjects has a clear foundation, namely the State of Indonesia and the Indonesian language comes from the Malay language in Indonesia. The Malay genre, as a local curriculum content, is understood as a whole of ideas, actions, and human works and has become an inseparable system from the life of the Indonesian people. Malay genre-based local curriculum design can be done by internalizing Malay culture in every subject set in the curriculum, especially those related to the cultural history of the Indonesian nation and its relation to Islamic religious education. This finding is based on the culture of the country as well as the ideology of the Indonesian state is inseparable from Islamic values.

Abstract

Language acquisition in early childhood is a crucial foundation in individual development as it is a critical period in which children rapidly and naturally learn language and communication. Speaking is a crucial language skill in everyday life. The act of speaking is closely related to language usage, and one example of this is the development of language abilities in 2-year-old children. This study aims to explore the semantic language acquisition in 2-year-old children at Kampung Baru. It is a qualitative descriptive study that focuses on the semantic language of nouns, verbs, and adjectives. This research is presented as an alternative strategy to enhance the intellectual development of children, especially at Kampung Baru, in their understanding of more complex language and communication in the future. The data source is the language used and the gestures by 2-year-old children at Kampung Baru. The data collection method employed in this study is participant observation with a semi-structured interview and complemented by recording, note-taking, and interviews. The researcher observed and recorded conversations of 2-year-old children and noted words related to the research objectives. Additionally, interviews were conducted with families of 2-year-old children at Kampung Baru during two months, specifically regarding nouns, verbs, and adjectives. The research findings indicate that 2-year-old children at Kampung Baru are capable of expressing and acquiring words accurately and in line with their intentions. They can differentiate between spoken words and actions. Furthermore, they demonstrate nonverbal language skills by expressing objects through gestures when referring to nouns, indicating actions when referring to verbs, and displaying attitudes and facial expressions when referring to adjectives.

Abstract

The use of the storytelling method at STITTA Bondowoso is investigated to measure its effectiveness in improving the English speaking skills of students. This research aims to examine the enhancement of students' speaking abilities through the implementation of the Storytelling method. The study falls under the category of qualitative research. The data in this study consist of students' storytelling discourse, with the data source being students enrolled in English courses at STITTA Bondowoso. The method used to collect data is the observe-participate-transcribe method. The researcher observed the context of English language learning in the classroom, particularly related to the Storytelling method. Additionally, interviews were conducted with English language instructors, students, and relevant parties at STITTA regarding the implementation and impact of the Storytelling method on improving students' speaking abilities, supplemented with recording and note-taking techniques. The collected data were then reduced and classified based on their types. Subsequently, data analysis and in-depth interpretation were conducted. The research results indicate that 1) STITTA students experience a significant improvement in speaking abilities in English learning; 2) students feel happy, enthusiastic, and entertained in learning English; 3) students are motivated to compete in English learning; and 4) students are eager to compete for achievements. The findings of this research demonstrate a positive correlation between the use of storytelling techniques and the improvement of students' speaking abilities. The depth and inherent appeal in the storytelling process not only enhance language retention but also create a more interactive and dynamic learning environment. The implications of this research have broad impacts, involving language educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers. This research emphasizes the urgency of integrating innovative methods and experiences to enhance speaking abilities in the context of language education. The contribution of this research lies in strengthening the discourse on effective language pedagogy, emphasizing the importance of adopting diverse and interactive teaching strategies to meet the evolving needs of students in the language learning process.
