In this paper, a fuzzy logic-based system is presented which is used to simulate a prediction model for determining the likelihood of Sickle Cell Anemia (SCA) in individuals given a 3-tuple record containing the level of fetal haemoglobin, genotype and the degree of Anemia.

A Spatial Conceptual Data Model For Public Health In Nigeria

In the region, most of the diseases and health related problems are as a result of environmental problems. Despite all the health problems, sub Saharan Africa most especially Nigeria lacks national health database. In the country, there is inadequate health care delivery system and patchy epidemiological data couple with the fact that there is no reliable method of epidemiological data collections. In order to solve these problems, this paper proposed a well organised conceptual public health data model for Nigeria, which addresses all the health problems and their causes. The proposed data model could be used to develop any health related system such as national public health database system, and disease surveillance system, which we intend to develop from this, proposed data model. The model is motivated by an interoperable disease surveillance and prediction system in Nigeria. We started with review of the existing health data models which include disease surveillance data models developed for Nigeria and Kenya which we modified and extended to develop a spatial conceptual public health data model in Nigeria. The proposed data model contributed to the existing health data models with its environmental health feature, which makes the model to be unique from other existing health data models. The model is developed using unified modelling language. We intend to make the model and health related systems that would be developed from the proposed data model open so as to allow other researchers most especially from sub Saharan Africa region and those that are interested in the region to contribute to the maintenance of the public health data model. The systems that would be developed from the proposed data model would make use of web feature services technology and allow interoperability with other health related systems. The proposed system would be able to capture, store, query, retrieve, and generate reports on any disease and the environmental problems that caused such health related problems among other things.

Web-Based Spatial Immunize-able Disease Surveillance System for Nigeria

Therefore, this paper introduces an ImDisease Surveillance System (IDSS) that can handle spatial health data using the web-based GIS capability. While ArcGIS was used to incorporate the GIS potentials; the WAMP (Window Apache MySQL and PHP) server was used to demonstrate the suitability of the system (application) to run on a local host as well as on the Internet. The health data used were randomly collected from local government areas and offices of the state ministry of health in Ekiti State as case study. Results from implementing the system showed that users were able to use the user interfaces to visualize various occurrences of immunize-able diseases; select the type of view they desired - either by local government or disease types; and graphically know the areas affected by diseases. These results - information when disseminated would assist in program planning and evaluation, and the formulation of research hypotheses for further research. We also believe that it will be useful in the deployment of health personnel and resources to address health related problems; and would also provide useful predictions.

This is especially true because of the absence of a central repository from which all accident related information can be stored and managed. Where available, these information are available in paper based form and this poses a bottleneck in updating the available information. In this study, a Web based Road Traffic
Accident Monitoring System (RTAMS) was developed for Nigerians.
The Road Traffic Accident Monitoring System (RTAMS) was developed using Adobe Dreamweaver and Notepad++ as the Integrated Development Environments, HTML, CSS and JavaScript were used for the frontend, PHP was used as the scripting language, and MySQL served as the database server.
Most of the languages and tools used were open source which ensured that the application would be robust, reusable, cheap and highly scalable.
The result of the developed system shows that road safety officers, users, policy makers and all other stakeholders can be able to register, login, submit reports and run queries on information that has been previously entered into the system such as the accidents that occurred on a particular route or the accident in which an identified victim was involved. Policy makers can run these queries in order to take appropriate steps in minimizing road traffic accident occurrences.
In conclusion, this system will help create a paperless alternative to the present method of RTA information and thus make information dissemination quicker and also improve first aid response to accident occurrences.

A number of studies have been undertaken in order to understand the prediction of breast cancer risks using data mining techniques. Hence, this study is focused at using two data mining techniques to predict breast cancer risks in Nigerian patients using the naïve bayes' and the J48 decision trees algorithms. The performance of both classification techniques was evaluated in order to determine the most efficient and effective model. The J48 decision trees showed a higher accuracy with lower error rates compared to that of the naïve bayes' method while the evaluation criteria proved the J48 decision trees to be a more effective and efficient classification techniques for the prediction of breast cancer risks among patients of the study location.

The incidence of cancer is rising as well as in Nigeria as it continues to eat deep into the nation claiming lives of both prominent and less prominent citizens of the country. This disease is increasingly taking the lives of productive citizens thereby adding to the poverty level of the nation. In this paper, we present a system which was developed for population based cancer registry in Nigeria. This system is an online system with spatial features. The online spatial cancer registry for Nigeria was developed using Adobe Dreamweaver and Notepad++ as the Integrated Development Environments, HTML, CSS and JavaScript were used for the frontend, PHP was used as the scripting language, and MySQL with google map. The software used were open source which ensured that the application would be robust, reusable, cheap and highly scalable. The result of the developed system shows that health officers, policy makers and all other authorized stakeholders would be able to register, login, and run queries on information that has been previously entered into the system. With the system, the spatial distribution of cancer in any location in Nigeria can be easily visualized and query. Policy makers and authorized users would be able to visualize and query the system in order to take appropriate steps in addressing cancer in Nigeria. In conclusion, this system will help create national database for cancer patients and be able to analyse the spatial distribution of cancer and the system is user-friendly.

Appointment scheduling system lies at the intersection of providing efficiency and timely access to health services. This research presents an online National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Outpatient Medical Appointment Booking System where NHIS patients can access and view any available personnel or doctor schedule in order to book an appointment with the corresponding time as specified by the available doctor. The system was developed using PhP, macromedia dreamweaver, apache and MYSQL. This is to ensure that the application is robust, cheap and is able to run on different platforms. The system provides the platform to facilitate the booking and management of patients' appointment bookings. Patients can also view their appointment reports. It also provides the healthcare workers an easy access to manage patients' appointments and to generate relevant reports.

ICT has become a major tool in banking industries and has had a revolutionary impact on how we live and perceive the world. It has transformed banking industries; this had made it possible for the banking industries to be efficient and effective in the delivery of their services to their customers. In this paper, I review the state of the art on the adoption of ICT in banking industries both in Nigeria and United Kingdom. The research shows that in Nigeria, banks are really moving fast in the adoption of ICT, except in some few areas when compared with that of UK and the problems facing Nigeria banking industries which made them to lag behind in those areas were highlighted.
