This methodology has received greater attention and application using several classical distributions. However, the Exponential Inverse Exponential distribution has not been transmuted since its introduction. This article used the Quadratic rank transmutation map to add flexibility to the Exponential Inverse Exponential distribution which resulted to a new continuous distribution called "Transmuted Exponential Inverse Exponential distribution". This paper has presented the definition, validation, properties, applications and estimation of unknown parameters of the transmuted Exponential Inverse Exponential distribution using the method of maximum likelihood estimation. The new distribution has been applied to three real life datasets and results provided evidence that it is better than the other existing distributions based on the datasets used. Thus, this new model can be applied fully in modeling real life problems most especially in survival analysis

Odd Lindley-Rayleigh Distribution: Its Properties and Applications to Simulated and Real Life Datasets

This article develops an extension of the Rayleigh distribution with two parameters and greater f... more This article develops an extension of the Rayleigh distribution with two parameters and greater flexibility which is an improvement over Lindley distribution, Rayleigh distribution and other generalizations of the Rayleigh distribution. The new model is known as "odd Lindley-Rayleigh Distribution". The definitions of its probability density function and cumulative distribution function using the odd Lindley-G family of distributions are provided. Some properties of the new distribution are also derived and studied in this article with applications and discussions. The estimation of the unknown parameters of the proposed distribution is also carried out using the method of maximum likelihood. The performance of the proposed probability distribution is compared to some other generalizations of the Rayleigh distribution using three simulated datasets and a real life dataset. The results obtained are compared using the values of some information criteria evaluated with the parameter estimates of the fitted distributions based on the four datasets and it is revealed that the proposed distribution outperforms all the other fitted distributions. This performance has shown that the odd Lindley-G family of distribution is an adequate generator of probability models and that the odd Linley-Rayleigh distribution is a very flexible distribution for fitting different kinds of datasets better than the other generalizations of the Rayleigh distribution considered in this study.

The work studied the properties of the new model. The estimates of the four parameters model were carried out using the method of maximum likelihood estimation. Mathematics occupies a central position in the school curriculum. It is a core subject from the p... more Mathematics occupies a central position in the school curriculum. It is a core subject from the primary through the junior secondary to the senior secondary school levels of the educational system. This important position occupied by the subject in the school curricula is borne out of the role of mathematics in scientific and technological development as in national building. However, the teaching of this important subject is faced with so many problems. Therefore, this study investigated and identified some of the problems facing the teaching and learning of Mathematics in secondary schools within the study area. The study employed survey research design; the sample consisted of 75 Mathematics Teachers and 525 students selected from both private and public secondary schools as respondents across the study area using a structured questionnaire as a means of data collection. We designed two separate questionnaires for both mathematics students and teachers. Percentages of items were used to determine whether a problem was “a major problem” or “not a major problem” following a standard benchmark. The results of the study revealed that; lack of qualified teachers, lack of interest on the part of the students, lack of instructional materials, lack of motivation for both teachers and students and poor remuneration are some of the major problems negatively influencing the teaching and learning of mathematics in secondary schools in the study area. Using the quadratic rank transmutation map (QRTM) introduced by [2], the three-parameter New Weighted Weibull distribution was generalized to its four-parameter variant titled "Transmuted New Weighted Weibull distribution (TNWWD)". The probability density function (pdf), cumulative distribution function (CDF), hazard rate, and survival function of the TNWWD model were computed and validated. Consequently, some of the mathematical properties of the proposed model were extensively studied and articulated. The parameter(s) of the TNWWD model were estimated using the method of maximum likelihood estimate. The proposed TNWWD model generally outperforms the competing Weibull and New Weighted Weibull distributions in terms of the Akaike information criterion (AIC), consistent Akaike information criterion (CAIC), Bayesian information criterion (BIC), Hannan quin information criterion (HQIC), and related performance measures. By this, the proposed four-parameter probability distribution function is expected to perform better with a real dataset and at all times. A real dataset on survival time was used to demonstrate the practical application of the proposed TNWWD model.

This generalization of the Gompertz-Makeham distribution provides a more skewed and flexible compound model called Lomax Gompertz-Makeham distribution. The paper derives and discusses some Mathematical and Statistical properties of the new distribution. The unknown parameters of the new model are estimated via the method of maximum likelihood estimation. This article uses this method to add flexibility to the Lindley-Exponential distribution which results to a new continuous distribution called “transmuted Lindley-Exponential distribution”. This paper presents the definition, validation, properties, application and estimation of unknown parameters of the transmuted Lindley-Exponential distribution using the method of maximum likelihood estimation. The new distribution has been applied to a real life dataset on the survival times (in days) of 72 guinea pigs and the result gives good evidence that the transmuted Lindley-Exponential distribution is better than the Lindley-Exponential distribution, Exponential distribution and Lindley distribution based on the dataset used.

The statistical features of the power Gompertz distribution are systematically derived and studied appropriately. The three parameters of the new model are being estimated using the method of maximum likelihood estimation. The proposed distribution has also been compared to the Gompertz distribution using a real life dataset and the result shows that the Power Gompertz distribution has better performance than the Gompertz distribution and hence will be more useful and effective if applied in some real life situations especially survival analysis and cure fraction modeling just like the conventional Gompertz distribution.
