TikTok has consistently been one of the most used mobile apps worldwide on any mobile operating system. However, despite people’s enjoyment of using the application, there have been growing concerns about the application’s origins and alleged privacy violations. These allegations have become such a big problem that the former President of the United States, Donald Trump, expressed a desire to ban the TikTok application from being offered on US application stores like Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store. This remark sent TikTok users into a frenzy to find alternatives before the ban took effect. To this end, several alternative applications for TikTok have surfaced and are already garnering millions of users. Relatório desenvolvido com o apoio do Banco de Desenvolvimento da América Latina e Caribe, CAF, para oferecer subsídios técnicos à Secretaria de Reformas Econômicas do Ministérios da Fazenda (SRE/MF) a respeito da regulamentação concorrencial de plataformas digitais no Brasil. Os resultados do estudo guiaram as propostas contidas no relatório da SRE/MF entitulado "Plataformas Digitais. Aspectos econômicos e concorrenciais e recomendações para aprimoramentos regulatórios no Brasil".

Nesse contexto, o Relatório apresenta (i) a crescente relevância do modelo de plataformas digitais para a economia mundial e seus desdobramentos na economia nacional, o posicionamento do Brasil na América Latina e no mundo, o potencial que as plataformas apresentam em termos de desenvolvimento econômico e a relevância de se promover um ambiente competitivo, (ii) os fundamentos econômicos que informam as dinâmicas competitivas de plataformas digitais, assim como os desafios que impõem sobre o ferramental do direito da concorrência, (iii) abordagens complementares à metodologia antitruste tradicional para estudar dinâmicas competitivas de plataformas digitais nos mercados nacionais, identificando ecossistemas chave e mapeando redes, tanto de serviços quanto de grupos econômicos, atuantes no país, e (iv) sugestões de política pública com base nos resultados encontrados.

Rich-sensor smart phones have made possible the recent birth of the mobile sensing research area as part of ubiquitous sensing which integrates other areas such as wireless sensor networks and web sensing. There are several types of mobile sensing: individual, participatory, opportunistic, crowd, social, etc. The object of sensing can be people-centered or environment-centered. The sensing domain can be home, urban, vehicular… Currently there are barriers that limit the social acceptance of mobile sensing systems. Examples of social barriers are privacy concerns, restrictive laws in some countries and the absence of economic incentives that might encourage people to participate in a sensing campaign. Several technical barriers are phone energy savings and the variety of sensors and software for their management. Some existing surveys partially tackle the topic of mobile sensing systems. Published papers theoretically or partially solve the above barriers. We complete the above surveys with new works, review the barriers of mobile sensing systems and propose some ideas for efficiently implementing sensing, fusion, learning, security, privacy and energy saving for any type of mobile sensing system, and propose several realistic research challenges. The main objective is to reduce the learning curve in mobile sensing systems where the complexity is very high.

The breakthrough in wireless networking has prompted a new concept of computing, called mobile computing in which users tote portable devices have access to a shared infrastructure, independent of their physical location. Mobile computing is becoming increasingly vital due to the increase in the number of portable computers and the aspiration to have continuous network connectivity to the Internet irrespective of the physical location of the node. Mobile computing systems are computing systems that may be readily moved physically and whose computing ability may be used while they are being moved. Mobile computing has rapidly become a vital new example in today's real world of networked computing systems. It includes software, hardware and mobile communication. Ranging from wireless laptops to cellular phones and WiFi/Bluetooth-enabled PDA"s to wireless sensor networks; mobile computing has become ubiquitous in its influence on our quotidian lives. In this paper various types of mobile devices are talking and they are inquiring into in details and existing operation systems that are most famed for mentioned devices are talking. Another aim of this paper is to point out some of the characteristics, applications, limitations, and issues of mobile computing.

Remote Attestation (RA) allows a trusted entity (verifier) to securely measure internal state of a remote untrusted hardware platform (prover). RA can be used to establish a static or dynamic root of trust in embedded and cyber-physical systems. It can also be used as a building block for other security services and primitives, such as software updates and patches, verifiable deletion and memory resetting. There are three major types of RA designs: hardwarebased, software-based, and hybrid, each with its own set of benefits and drawbacks. This paper presents the first hybrid RA design-called HYDRAthat builds upon formally verified software components that ensure memory isolation and protection, as well as enforce access control to memory and other resources. HYDRA obtains these properties by using the formally verified seL4 microkernel. (Until now, this was only attainable with purely hardware-based designs.) Using seL4 imposes fewer hardware requirements on the underlying microprocessor. Also, building upon a formally verified software component increases confidence in security of the overall design of HYDRA and its implementation. We instantiate HYDRA on two commodity hardware platforms and assess the performance and overhead of performing RA on such platforms via experimentation; we show that HYDRA can attest 10MB of memory in less than 250msec when using a Speck-based cryptographic checksum.

COSMOS (C# Open Source Managed Operating System) Paper provides a framework and tool-chain to develop an OS purely in managed code (C# and VB .NET). Cosmos supports integration with Visual Studio, and therefore is much easier to use. However, the framework is not rich, and therefore, there is still a lot of work to be done on OS developer side (E.g., it does not support mouse, file system etc.) In this paper, a microkernel based OS is developed using COSMOS framework for x86 based computer systems. This paper demonstrates device driver (PS/2) pointing device and GUI System. Since Cosmos does not provide support file system, mouse, keyboard, we have designed appropriate drivers for screen, mouse and keyboard. We have developed Event handlers and drivers for each device.In this part, we have developed drivers for Hard Disk and RAM to detect them in order to achieve partial fulfilment. From the development of general purpose computers, software industry has also evolved. However, there is not much improvement in OS development, as compared with other fields of software world: while other fields are enjoying power of garbage collection, OS developers are still doing their job in classic languages like C, C++ and assembly. Although there has been some research work regarding this, none of them was successful. This project is an attempt to develop a mini OS in pure managed code, particularly C# and .NET Framework 4.0. Firefox OS (project name: Boot to Gecko, also known as B2G) is a Linux kernel-based open-source operating system for smartphones and tablet computers and is set to be used on smart TVs.It is being developed by Mozilla, the non-profit organization best known for the Firefox web browser.

Firefox OS is designed to provide a complete community-based alternative system for mobile devices, using open standards and approaches such as HTML5 applications, JavaScript, a robust privilege model, open web APIs to communicate directly with cellphone hardware, and application marketplace. As such, it competes with commercially developed operating systems such as Apple's iOS, Google's Android, Microsoft's Windows Phone and Jolla's Sailfish OS as well as other community-based open source systems such as Ubuntu Touch.

Firefox OS was publicly demonstrated in February 2012, on Android-compatible smartphones. In January 2013, at CES 2013, ZTE confirmed they would be shipping a smartphone with Firefox OS, and on July 2, 2013, Telefónica launched the first commercial Firefox OS based phone, ZTE Open, in Spain which was quickly followed by GeeksPhone's Peak+.

The recent big tickets include Microsoft acquiring part of Nokia for US$ 7.2 billion, Verizon buy 45% stake in Vodafone for US$130 billion, Google acquiring Motorola for 12.5 billion.
