Translation Software

This research conducts the experiment of translating literary pieces by utilising one of the most recent as well as advanced tools, DeepL. Throughout the paper, the study elicits entities that discuss MT translation and computational tools thus questioning their reliability when it comes to translating demanding works of literature.

Music Schools constitute “vehicles” of art and culture based on music, where multi- faceted development of students is achieved. Musical instruments’ instruction constitutes a fundamental objective as a prerequisite for a deeper understanding of music. Piano is considered as the basic instrument of Western European Music. In the light of the "New School", innovative elements in New Piano Curricula set new prospects for instrumental instruction. The principal aim of the study is to present the innovative "profile" of the Curricula and the methodology implemented for developing the Technical Sector emphasizing on Mandatory Content of Scales, Chords, Cadences and Chord Progressions. Their study, apart from the development of technique, is mostly oriented to music reading, aural perception, improvisation, harmonization and the general development of creativity. Secondly, the study proposes a pedagogical implementation of individual aspects of the Curriculum, and attempts to highlight different skills and approaches arising as “new literacy” required for teaching the piano at Music Schools.

The demand for translation services by the business community has increased significantly over the past decade or so, fuelled by socio-economic changes, such as industry globalisation, and closer collaboration between European countries. Technological developments, such as the advent of the Internet, the rise of electronic business, and the increase in the use of electronic documents have also contributed to the demand for translation. At the same time, translators are required to produce high-quality translations in ever-shorter time periods. La traductique, point de rencontre de la traduction et de l'informatique, couvre bien des domaines dont certains sont plus prometteurs que d'autres. Cette présentation propose un tour d'horizon des logiciels qui s'offrent au traducteur, qu'il s'agisse de bureautique (traitement de textes, gestion de fichiers, etc.), de terminotique (élaboration de bases de données terminologiques et utilisation des bases déjà existantes), de traduction assistée par ordinateur (TAO) ou de traduction automatique (TA), entièrement réalisée par l'ordinateur. Une évaluation sommaire, et parfois sévère, de ces outils et une présentation rapide de la façon dont on les utilise dans les milieux professionnels (par exemple au moyen du poste de travail du traducteur du gouvernement fédéral) permettront de souligner, malgré quelques accrocs, les perspectives qu'ils offrent, tant pour l'enseignement de la traduction que pour l'exercice du métier.

There is a wide range of information and communications technologies (ICT) available to translators today, including both general-purpose software applications and special purpose software, such as terminology management and translation memory systems. Background of the study is to analyse potential time saving in translating documents with repetitions; ease in finding reference words and expressions; maintaining consistency throughout the text, experience of translators using the CATs compared to previous traditional methods. Objective of the analysis is to show benefits of using CATs in written translation, benefits and drawbacks of using CATs, and ultimately is it worth it. Paper analyses the effect of CATs in the quality and consistency of translations and the effect of CATs in the duration of translation process, and ultimately the worth over money and effort.

Στο σύγχρονο σχολείο, γίνεται συνεχώς πιο αναγκαία η χρήση εκπαιδευτικής τεχνολογίας έτσι ώστε να αναβαθμίζεται η εκπαιδευτική και μαθησιακή διαδικασία. Η χρήση εκπαιδευτικού λογισμικού είναι μία από τις πιο συνήθεις πρακτικές για την επίτευξη των στόχων αυτών. Στην περίπτωση του ελληνικού σχολείου, υπάρχουν αρκετά εκπαιδευτικά λογισμικά και ειδικότερα “Ελεύθερα Λογισμικά/ Λογισμικά Ανοικτού Κώδικα” (ΕΛ/ΛΑΚ). Κάτι τέτοιο δε φαίνεται να ισχύει για το μάθημα της μουσικής. Πιο συγκεκριμένα δε φαίνεται να υπάρχει κάποιο ΕΛ/ ΛΑΚ το οποίο να μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί ως υποστηρικτικό εργαλείο στην εκμάθηση μουσικής θεωρίας και στην ανάπτυξη ακουστικής αντίληψης. Στην παρούσα εργασία πραγματοποιήθηκε η δημιουργία ενός τέτοιου λογισμικού μεταφράζοντας ένα ΕΛ/ ΛΑΚ από την αγγλική στην ελληνική γλώσσα με τη χρήση αρχείων PO (Portable Object). Σκοπός της εργασίας είναι η μελλοντική χρήση του λογισμικού στο ελληνικό σχολείο από τους εκπαιδευτικούς του μαθήματος της μουσικής. Ειδικότερα η εργασία πραγματεύεται την περίπτωση του λογισμικού «LenMus Phonascus» το οποίο, συμπεριλαμβανομένης της ελληνικής, διατίθεται σε δέκα
γλώσσες και είναι διαθέσιμο στον ιστότοπο http://www.lenmus.org/mws/noticias. Τέλος, η ύλη του λογισμικού έπειτα από σύγκριση των οδηγών σπουδών του Ινστιτούτου Εκπαιδευτικής Πολιτικής και του Υπουργείου Παιδείας και Θρησκευμάτων, διαπιστώθηκε ότι συγκλίνει σε μεγάλο βαθμό με τις τελευταίες τάξεις του Δημοτικού και τις τάξεις του Γυμνασίου γενικής παιδείας καθώς επίσης σε μεγαλύτερο βαθμό με τις γυμνασιακές τάξεις του Μουσικού Σχολείου.
