Teen Suicide

This study examines four-year mental health trends among LGBTQ+ youth and young adults in the Texas Panhandle, a deeply conservative region where sexual and gender minorities face significant social challenges. Using cross-sectional survey data collected annually from 2022-2025 (N=884), we analyzed trends in suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, self-harm, mental health challenges, and bullying victimization. Results reveal alarmingly elevated mental health disparities throughout the study period. Suicidal ideation peaked at 81.7% in 2023 before declining to 52.6% in 2025, with rates consistently double national LGBTQ+ youth averages. Suicide attempts followed a similar pattern, reaching 43.3% in 2023 and falling to 27.3% in 2025, yet remaining more than twice the national benchmarks. Self-harm attempts peaked at 58.4% in 2023, declining to 42.8% by 2025. Bullying victimization affected 50.9% to 73.7% of respondents across years, while mental health burden ranged from 61.7% to 78.2%. These findings reflect severe minority stress in a hostile social environment, exemplified by institutional conflicts such as West Texas A&M University's drag show ban and local advocacy restrictions. The persistent elevation of all indicators highlights urgent needs for targeted interventions, affirming mental health services, and policy changes supporting LGBTQ+ youth in rural, conservative environments.

Previous research has shown that mass-media reports of a suicide death predict an increase in suicide deaths, dubbed the Werther effect . Content intended to protect from suicide contagion in mass-media reports of suicide may reduce the Werther effect, described as the Papageno effect . Werther and Papageno effects have not been investigated for their influence on suicide-attempt rates in the United States. An increase in suicide deaths in the United States followed mass-media reports of Robin Williams's death by suicide , lending support for the Werther effect. A significant increase in calls to a national suicide prevention crisis line also followed the reports , supporting a Papageno effect. Suicide attempt rates were not evaluated following the reporting. Interrupted time-series (ITS) analysis evaluated suicide-attempt and death rates in Seattle from daily police-reported suicide incidents from January 11, 2012 to December 10, 2014. The suicide-attempt rate observed in the month following Williams's death was 48% lower than predicted, while the observed suicide-death rate was 118% higher than predicted. This seems to support both Werther and Papageno effects, which are hypothesized to act in opposition , and may suggest a reconceptualization of the Papageno effect. seek mentors who will impose "tough, realistic, but attainable standards, and who will fully support you in achieving them." Introduction. Foreign and Russian studies indicate a significant increase in cases of anti-vital behavior
among young people. Conditions for suicide risk arise. The anti-vital orientation of future teachers creates
risks for the students with whom they will work. Violations of the mental health of a part of the adult population
may occur. Psychological science and practice are faced with the problem of finding ways and means to
prevent various kinds of deviations. This problem can be solved if the correlates of the anti-vital orientation
of the individual are identified. Personal vitality, in our opinion, reduces the likelihood of anti-vital orientation
among students. Purpose of the study: to identify the relationship between indicators of personal vitality and
anti-vital orientation of students.
Materials and methods. The empirical study involved 244 girls and 93 boys of the first and second years
studying in pedagogical specialties.The study was carried out using the following methods: Questionnaire
“Anti-vitality and vitality” (O. A. Sagalakova, D. V. Truevtsev, 2017), Vitality of an adult (A. V. Makhnach, 2013),
Questionnaire “Vitality of the individual” (A. A. Nesterova, 2017). Methods of mathematical statistics: Mr.
Pearson's correlation coefficient, Student's t-test.
The results of the study. Qualitative and quantitative data analysis provided grounds for drawing
conclusions. 4.92% of girls and 2.15% of boys have a high level of anti-vital orientation; 9.84% of girls and
6.45% of boys have an average level. Girls have higher anti-vital thoughts, anti-vital actions, impulsiveness,
demonstrativeness, negative image, abandonment, helplessness, non-mediation of emotions, gelotophobia,
dysmorphophobia, conflicts in the family, conflicts in the group, anxious rumination, addiction than boys.
Students have an average level of vitality. A correlation study showed that the higher the vitality, the lower the
likelihood of anti-vital thoughts and actions, impulsiveness and demonstrative behavior, the lower the feeling
of abandonment, loneliness and helplessness, a negative image of the future, fear of negative evaluation
from others, conflicts in the family and group.
Conclusion. The vitality of students reduces the likelihood of anti-vital attacks. Viable students have a lower
risk of anti-vital thoughts, experiences and actions. Targeted psychological work to increase the vitality of
students will contribute to the prevention of self-harming behavior

Emphasizing the important impact of family dynamics, legal frameworks, and access to gender-a irming treatment, this study provides a thorough review of the junction between gender dysphoria and suicidality. Using a mixed-methods approach, incorporating psychological records, structured questionnaires, and in-depth interviews this study illustrates how maternal gatekeeping, high-conflict divorces, and legal impediments aggravate psychological misery among transgender people. The results highlight urgent legal changes, inclusive mental health policies, and easily available medical treatments are needed to lower suicide risk. Advocating longitudinal research to investigate the causal relationships between family support, legal access, and mental health outcomes, this study o ers empirical data to aid therapists, legislators, and attorneys in creating supportive environments for gender-diverse populations.

Maternal and paternal gatekeeping is the practice of actions limiting one parent's involvement in child-rearing, therefore influencing the psychological well-being of the children. The association between maternal gatekeeping and the frequency of suicide thoughts and actions among impacted children is examined in this paper. Drawing on important studies (e.g., Bernet et al., 2010; Harman, Kruk, & Hines, 2018), results suggest that children experiencing severe parental alienation due to maternal gatekeeping are at significantly greater risk of emotional distress, depression, and suicidal ideas with up to 50% of severely alienated children reporting suicidal thoughts. Negative comments about the father, limited paternal time, and exclusion from decision-making are among the mechanisms causing this anxiety; all of these might support emotional instability and identity problems. Although paternal gatekeeping has negative psychological consequences, its frequency and intensity seem to be less than those of maternal gatekeeping. These results highlight the critical necessity of clinical and legal treatments to reduce the psychological damage related to gatekeeping activities and to support reasonable parental engagement for the mental health of their children.

Introduction: Disciplinary practices significantly impact adolescent behavior and mental health. This study aimed to identify discipline profiles reported by Mexican adolescents, examine sociodemographic factors associated with these profiles, and analyze their relationship with mental health outcomes, including depressive symptoms, suicide attempts, and alcohol use. Methods: Data were analyzed from the 2021 National Health and Nutrition Survey (ENSANUT), including 3,373 adolescents (mean age = 13.42; 49.6% female) from various Mexican regions. Latent class analysis identified disciplinary patterns. Associations between sociodemographic variables and disciplinary profiles were examined using multinomial logistic regression. Logistic and linear regressions assessed the relationships between disciplinary practices and mental health outcomes. Results: Three disciplinary profiles were identified: low disciplinary control, non-physical disciplinary control, and coercive/physical disciplinary control. Adolescents living with their mothers or whose mothers had higher educational levels were more likely to experience non-physical discipline than low disciplinary control. Those living with their mother also had a higher probability of experiencing coercive/physical discipline. On the other hand, older adolescents evidenced a decreased likelihood of coercive/physical discipline. Both non-physical and coercive/physical discipline were associated with higher depressive symptoms, increased alcohol consumption and a higher likelihood of suicide attempts compared to low disciplinary control. Conclusions: The study highlights the prevalence and sociodemographic determinants of disciplinary practices among Mexican adolescents. It underscores the negative mental health impacts of coercive disciplinary methods, emphasizing the need for interventions promoting healthier disciplinary practices to improve adolescent well-being.

Police officers are at an increased risk for suicide. Hesitancy by this high risk population to seek help makes it essential to detect suicide ideation on a different level than self-reports. This pilot study was an effort to explore the potential for an additional measure, the suicide Implicit Association Test (IAT), to detect suicidal ideation in police officers. The IAT measures levels of identification with life or death. In terms of self-reported suicide ideation, none was reported by officers. Results from the IAT measure suggested that officers had differing levels of identification with life: slight (18.5%), moderate (32.3%), and strong (29.2%). 14% were neutral in their identification with life, and 6% identified with death. Self-reported suicide ideation, depression and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) did not significantly correlate with IAT scores, suggesting that the IAT is distinct from self-report tools, measuring attitudes toward life and death below the conscious level. More research is needed to help clarify the operational usefulness of IAT methods and their validity over time.

Introduction. Generalization of biological, social, and psychological predictors of self-destructive behavior is one of
the main tasks for world health care at the present time. For this reason, the development of an integrative model of
self-destructive behavior, taking into account the diversity of biopsychosocial factors, as well as their representation
in the virtual environment, will be highly relevant. The integrative model can be used to create automated systems
for analyzing socio-cultural risk factors of self-destructive behavior, as well as helping specialists to create prevention,
maintenance and correction programs.
The purpose of the study is to describe and generalize the factors of the real and virtual environment that mediate the
risk of developing self-destructive behavior and to create a hierarchical generalized model of self-destructive behavior
based on the synthesis of biopsychosocial and cyberpsychological paradigms.
Materials and methods. For a holistic analysis of the basic concepts and the creation of a general model of selfdestructive behavior, we used a combined approach that includes content analysis to describe the factors mediating
self-destructive behavior, the method of expert assessments for the selection of significant factors, mathematical and
statistical analysis for processing the data obtained (methods of descriptive statistics, cluster analysis (Ward method)).
The results of the study. As a result of cluster analysis , the following components of the self-destructive behavior
model were identified: 1) "Peculiarities of self-attitude" (23.2%) (the dynamic component, depending on the specific
situation, is highly significant for face-to-face diagnosis; 2) "Endogenous factors of self-destructive behavior" (20.2%)
(violations of the emotional-volitional sphere); 3) "Exogenous factors of self-destructive behavior" (21.4%) (negative
factors of upbringing); 4) "Negative factors of the socio-cultural environment" (17.3%) (traumatic micro- and macrofactors that can provoke the occurrence of self-destructive symptoms); 5) "Individual characteristics developed in the
process of personality formation" (14.2%) (individual predictors of self-destruction); 6) "Factors of isolation from the
social environment" (3.6%) (a number of personal predictors that prevent open active interaction with others and
getting help).
Conclusion. A number of new data describing the structure of the generalized model of self-destructive behavior and
the main directions of risk analysis have been obtained. The leading factors of the micro- and macro-socio-cultural
environment are identified, representing a wide range of markers available for study through the analysis of virtual
communication. The possibility of combining a biopsychosocial model and the capabilities of a cyberpsychological
approach to create a dynamic digital monitoring model that allows for a general risk assessment for large samples to
minimize the resources of individual diagnostics is shown.

Young people are suffering from depression, anxiety, fatalism and may develop suicidal tendencies. The objective is to follow the paths defined by Dairymple, Lukianoff and Haidt regarding the reality of young people. The causes are not fully understood, however, the solution is to help children develop healthy trajectories to minimize mental disorders or suicidal thoughts and behaviors. We also know that schools are a source of tension and that they need to become healthier environments. We know that we are in the middle of a technological revolution, which, through Automation, affects employment and family income. And finally, the most important thing is the interest and commitment to improving communication and family support, family and community ties, as well as children's ties to school, so that they feel safe and connected.

Shadow parenting is a prevalent issue in today's fast-paced world. The pressures of modern life, technology overload, and societal expectations contribute to emotionally distant parent-child relationships. The consequences of shadow parenting can be detrimental to a child's psychological, emotional, and social development. However, with conscious effort and a focus on meaningful connections, parents can overcome shadow parenting by prioritizing their child's emotional well-being and creating nurturing environments that foster growth, resilience, and emotional connection. Shadow parenting behavior is a complex and multifaceted issue that stems from childhood experiences of neglect and emotional unavailability. Understanding the theoretical framework underlying this behavior provides insight into the lasting effects it can have on individuals' lives. By seeking therapy, building supportive relationships, and acquiring parenting education, individuals who have grown up under the shadow parenting influence can break the cycle and create healthier and more fulfilling lives for themselves and their own families. In conclusion, shadow parenting has a significant and lasting impact on a child's psychological development. The emotional absence and neglect experienced in shadow parenting can lead to attachment issues, low self-esteem, poor emotional regulation, anxiety, depression, and behavioral problems. These effects can extend well into adulthood, impacting individuals' ability to form secure and healthy relationships and affecting their overall psychological well-being.

La ideación y el intento suicida son parte del amplio espectro del comportamiento suicida. Ambos tienen una alta frecuencia entre los adolescentes porque en esta etapa del desarrollo concurren factores sociales, familiares y psicológicos. The passage of R.A. 11036 (Mental Health Act) has been hailed as a victory for mental health advocates. While the law itself is a step in the right direction, it cannot be considered as a law that wholly confronts the problem of suicide. Rather, bills focusing on suicide prevention remain pending in Congress with no certainty as to their eventual fates. This study reviews the bills filed before the 13th up to the 19th Congress of the Philippines (2004 to 2024) and identifies the different steps they propose for suicide prevention. These proposed steps are compared with the provisions of R.A. 11036 to determine whether the existing law is sufficient to deal with the suicide problem or whether there is a need for further legislation specific to suicide prevention. Results showed that there were 32 suicide bills proposed in a span of 20 years. These bills can be divided into 7 themes and they stipulated 19 different steps for suicide prevention-out of which only 12 were partially covered by the Mental Health Act.

Background: Suicide carries a significant global burden. There may be patterns or seasonality in suicide rates, which are possibly linked to environmental factors and mood. Methods: This study aimed to investigate the temporal patterns of completed suicide attempts, focusing on the time of suicide attempt instead death time. Data were collected from autopsies and examined through day/night, morning/afternoon/evening/night-time, hourly, and weekday distribution. Results: Demographic analysis revealed higher prevalence among young adults and married individuals and attempts occurred in the afternoon and evening. Male suicide attempts peaked between 4 pm and 6 pm, while female attempts peaked at 6 pm. Hanging was the most common method. Weekday trends showed higher attempts on Fridays and Mondays. Conclusion: Understanding temporal patterns of suicide attempts help in developing targeted preventive strategies. Resources can be allocated more efficiently during high-risk times to reduce the likelihood of completed suicides. Identifying vulnerable individuals, such as young adults and married individuals during the afternoon and evening hours allows for closer monitoring and intervention, with heightened vigilance on Fridays and Mondays.

On 31 March Netflix released its series 13 Reasons Why, 1 portraying the fictional death of 17 year old Hannah Baker, who records her story on tapes before her suicide. Each of the 13 episodes explores a reason for her suicide, emphasising Hannah's social environment as a causal factor. The series was dubbed into French, German, Italian, and Spanish, and concludes with the protagonist's explicit, graphic suicide. The series was widely viewed-there were over 11 million related tweets within three weeks of release. 2

Background: The reasons for celebrity suicide are multifaceted and often involve a complex interplay of mental health challenges, intense public scrutiny, and the pressures associated with fame-this content analysis aimed to explore the social factors contributing to celebrity suicides in South India. By examining the prevalence of specific factors, the research seeks to provide valuable insights into the dynamics of these tragic incidents. Methods: In this content analysis study, five leading Indian online news portals (i.e. Times of India, Indian Express, India Today, NDTV, and the Week) were meticulously chosen for a retrospective analysis. The focus was on English-language news. The study incorporated variables such as age, place of suicide, suicide date, reasons for suicide, and other identifying factors to establish patterns. After eliminating repetitions, a final dataset of 17 unique reports was assessment. Results: The findings underscored the complex interplay of demographic, contextual, and societal factors contributing to celebrity suicides. The study identified the significant influence of specific news portals, prompting contemplation on media's potential impact on public perception. Utilizing a word cloud approach, the research has elucidated contributing factors such as depression, love failure, financial problems, mental health issues, relationship challenges, despair, and deprived opportunities. Conclusion: This frequency content analysis offers valuable insights into the social factors of celebrity suicides in South India, providing a foundation for further research and collaborative efforts. Addressing mental health challenges within this population necessitates a holistic approach, encompassing media responsibility and targeted interventions.

Moral development plays an important role in shaping life decisions including moral positions. Different moral positions are results of individual perspectives of right and wrong. In Kohlberg's Moral Development theory, parents are considered to have more time and authority to teach their younger children of what is good and bad, but as part of child's growth and development, moral maturity occurs. Thus, this study is about the relationship of moral messages recalled by 395 selected tertiary students from their parents and their moral position on selected moral issues. A youth is expected to experience difficulties due to the opposing desire to be free while still remaining dependent to family and other significant individuals in their lives. Filipino youth are known as being family-oriented and being submissive which is one of the factors that pounds the importance of what people around them utters. Understanding the sexual behavior of young people is important in pursuing health development in our society. In the Philippines, current data shows that there is a drastic increase in sex related activities concerning our youths. According to past studies, strong familial relationship and parent-child connectedness decrease the likelihood of a child to engage in risky sex. Furthermore, families with strong communication and are open to sexual topics became closer, and more comfortable with each other. This quantitative, correlational study was designed to describe the level of parental communication in terms of sexual health issues and its relationship to the sexual behaviorsof male Filipino youths in Metro Manila. Background: In this study, stress is conceptualised as a psychological syndrome in response to stressors. Stress and inappropriate coping mechanisms constitute a serious problem in police profession. Organisational causes of stress, such as lack of support from management, are additional stressors. The ability to cope with this stress is influenced by marital status, gender, rank, age and years of service. In managing stress, police officers may use adaptive or maladaptive coping mechanisms. Aim: To investigate stress and the coping mechanisms used by police officers. Setting: The study was set in Tzaneen, Limpopo province, South Africa. Methods: This cross-sectional study used a self-administered questionnaire based on the Police Stress Inventory (PSI) and Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced (COPE) tools. Results: Of the 104 participants, female police officers had significantly higher stress intensity scores, while constables and captains had statistically significant lower stress scores. The highest ranked stressors were killing someone in the line of duty, a fellow officer killed in the line of duty, and knowledge of and experiencing the death of a fellow officer in the line of duty. The five most frequently occurring stressors were organisational in nature. Respondents were more likely to use coping strategies that were problem-focused. Conclusion: Organisational stressors were common, suggesting that the South African Police Services (SAPS) management should provide interventions that reduce the effects of workrelated stressors. Hintergrund: Die Arbeitsgruppe um Thomas Joiner postuliert ein als acute suicidal affective disturbance (ASAD) bezeichnetes Syndrom, welches durch vier Symptomgruppen (Suizidabsicht, Entfremdung, Hoffnungslosigkeit, Übererregung) definiert sein soll. Ziel des vorliegenden Artikels ist, die Literatur zum ASAD-Syndrom zusammenfassend darzustellen und eine Einschätzung vorzunehmen, inwieweit tatsächlich von einem einheitlichen Syndrom ausgegangen werden kann. Haber tenido un intento de suicidio es considerado uno de los factores de riesgo más importantes para el suicidio. Estudios realizados en Puerto Rico y Estados Unidos de América sugieren que entre 1% a 13% de jóvenes universitarios/as han intentado suicidarse. El objetivo principal de esta investigación es describir el perfil de universitarios/as que han tenido intentos suicidas. Se utilizó un instrumento que contiene preguntas sociodemográficas y de necesidad de consejería personal y académica. La muestra consta de 88 (5%) participantes que expresaron haber intentado suicidarse, al menos en una ocasión. Este grupo pertenece a una muestra total (n=1,842) de un estudio más amplio de necesidades de consejería de la UPR. Según los resultados, 73% (n=64) de la muestra eran mujeres y 43% (n=27) se encontraban cursando su primer año universitario. Además, 52% (n=46) indicó haberse agredido sin intención suicida y más del 85% (n=88) mencionó sentirse ansioso/a, solos/as y tener dificultad para manejar las emociones. Los resultados aportan a la descripción de estudiantes que han intentado suicidarse y permite utilizar esta información para la intervención temprana y la prevención del suicidio. Se recomienda realizar actividades de prevención dirigidas a conductas auto-lesivas, síntomas de ansiedad, manejo saludable de las emociones y recuperación del trauma.

SummaryMedia coverage of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) ranges from providing helpful education to displaying graphic images. We offer the first research-informed, consensus-based guidelines for the responsible reporting and depicting of NSSI in the media, while also advising on ideas for dissemination and collaboration between media professionals and healthcare experts.

This study sought to determine the prevalence of suicide ideation and attempts among Filipino undergraduate students before and during the pandemic. It also sought to determine the reasons as well as the help-seeking behavior of the aforesaid students and find out if there are significant relationships between their socioeconomic characteristics and their suicide-related behaviors. Data were obtained through a survey questionnaire (n=308) and were analyzed through descriptive statistics and Spearman Rho correlational tests. Findings showed that majority of the respondents have thought or made plans about suicide at least once. Meanwhile, 2 out of every 10 respondents coming from a predominantly richer university has attempted suicide while 4 out of every 10 from a predominantly poorer university did the same. Most of the suicide ideators thought of suicide before and during the pandemic while suicide attempts were more common before the pandemic. Most of those who experienced suicide ideation and/or attempts did not seek any form of help during the ordeal and, for those who did, the help was sought from friends instead of mental health professionals and suicide hotlines. The study also found that family problems were the most common reason for suicide before the pandemic and academic problems were the most common during the pandemic, albeit there was an observed rise in suicide ideations and/or attempts due to financial problems as well. Finally, correlational tests found that males, the religious, and the rich tend to engage in less suicide-related behaviors while the opposite was observed among LGBT students.

Background. The aim of this systematic review is to find out which risk factors are associated with suicidal behaviour in children, adolescents and young adults. In recent years there has been an increase in these behaviours, considered a social problem, which is caused by the interaction of several factors; therefore, it is approached from the experience of the people affected, and their family and socio-cultural relationship. Although suicidal behaviours are occurring globally, the articles analysed in this review are the result of research in Spain, Colombia, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Peru and the United States, due to their socio-cultural proximity and the problems arising from migration and social inequality of the most vulnerable groups. Method. The systematic review is carried out according to the guidelines of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020-PRISMA-, where 30 complete and primary articles are included, selected through the APA PsycNET, Scielo, Elsevier, Dialnet, PubMed, and different search engines and links; and to obtain the results, the main Boolean operators AND, OR, and NOT are used. This qualitative review is approached from the Socioconstructionist Perspective, to analyse the increase in suicidality in the last 10 years, with studies published between 2012 and June 2023. Results. From the 30 studies included, it can be seen that there is a variable prevalence of suicidal behaviour, and an increase in these life stages. These occur due to several concomitant social factors associated with domestic and peer violence-especially in adolescents-; different forms of physical and/or psychological abuse; lack of social belonging; perception of poor social support; bullying, which extends outside the classroom with cyberbullying; the internalised stigma of belonging to minorities, whether due to racial prejudice, sexual identity, or being an immigrant; the hopelessness of those deprived of liberty; or the confluence of several factors. Discussion. In the United States there is a high incidence of suicidal ideation and suicide at term, related to the vulnerability of minority groups; and due to the multicultural nature of this nation, and the limitation of health services, some data may be inconsistent due to the biased information available on those affected. The main conclusion drawn from this review is that the family, social and educational context in which these children, adolescents and young adults develop can become triggers for the appearance of suicidal behaviour due to the physical and psychological violence that conditions them.

En esta revisión sistemática se analizan los factores psicosociales que impulsan a que niños, adolescentes y adultos jóvenes tengan pensamientos suicidas, presenten conductas autolíticas y lleven a término el suicidio. Este es un fenómeno globalizado, por ello, se revisan estudios que muestran el desarrollo e incremento de estas conductas suicidas entre los años 2012 y 2023 en Estados Unidos, España, Colombia, México, Chile, Argentina, Perú -países con cierta relación sociocultural-, donde han investigado a las personas afectadas y su entorno; demostrando que estas conductas se presentan por la interacción de varios factores, con lo cual,  es necesario identificar los factores de riesgo para atajar este problema social.

Модель саморазрушающего поведения современной молодежи на основе синтеза биопсихосоциальной и киберпсихологической парадигм Введение. Обобщение биологических, социальных и психологических предикторов саморазрушающего поведения является одной из основных задач для мирового здравоохранения в настоящее время. По этой причине актуальна разработка интегративной модели саморазрушающего поведения, учитывающей многообразие биопсихосоциальных факторов, а также их представленность в виртуальной среде. Интегративная модель может быть использована для создания автоматизированных систем анализа социокультурных факторов риска саморазрушающего поведения, а также помогающими специалистами, для создания программ профилактики, сопровождения и коррекции. Цель исследования: описание и обобщение факторов реальной и виртуальной среды, опосредующих риск развития саморазрушающего поведения и создание иерархической обобщенной модели данного поведения на основе синтеза биопсихосоциальной и киберпсихологической парадигм. Материалы и методы. Для целостного анализа основных концепций и создания общей модели саморазрушающего поведения нами был использованы: комбинированный подход, который включает в себя контент-анализ, для описания факторов, опосредующих саморазрушающее поведение; метод экспертных оценок для отбора значимых факторов; математико-статистический анализ для обработки полученных данных (методы описательной статистики, кластерный анализ (метод Варда)). Результаты исследования. В результате кластерного анализа были выделены следующие компоненты модели саморазрушающего поведения: 1) «Особенности самоотношения» (23,2%) (динамический компонент, зависит от конкретной ситуации, является высокозначимым для очной диагностики; 2) «Эндогенные факторы саморазрушающего поведения» (20,2%) (нарушения эмоционально-волевой сферы); 3) «Экзогенные факторы саморазрушающего поведения» (21,4%) (негативные факторы воспитания); 4) «Негативные факторы социокультурной среды» (17,3%) (травматичные микро-и макрофакторы, которые могут спровоцировать возникновение саморазрушающей симптоматики); 5) «Индивидуальные особенности развившиеся в процессе становления личности» (14,2%) (индивидуальные предикторы саморазрушения); 6) «Факторы изоляции от социальной среды» (3,6%) (ряд личностных предикторов, мешающих открытому активному взаимодействию с другими и получению помощи). Заключение. Получен ряд новых данных, описывающих структуру обобщенной модели саморазрушающего поведения и основные направления анализа рисков. Выделены ведущие факторы микро-и макро-социокультурной среды, представляющие широкий спектр маркеров, доступных для изучения через анализ виртуальной коммуникации. Показана возможность объединения биопсихосоциальной модели и возможностей киберпсихологического подхода для создания динамичной цифровой модели мониторинга, позволяющей проводить общую оценку рисков для больших выборок для минимизации ресурсов индивидуальной диагностики.

INTRODUÇÃO "O suicídio é o mais misterioso ato do ser humano. Difícil de compreender, todos os matizes parecem embeber-se de desespero. Do final de um sofrimento, tido como interminável. De uma constrição da mente. Da perda de horizontes, sem esperança de qualquer coisa, embora a luta do querer-não querer seja titânica e avassaladora" (Saraiva, 2006). Suicídio é quando um individuo termina com a vida de forma intencional, independentemente da perspetiva analítica da religião, da filosofia e do direito. O suicídio é um fenómeno multifacetado e complexo, está relacionado com a área da psiquiatria, sociologia, psicologia, filosofia e antropologia e dificilmente são encontradas respostas satisfatórias quando pesquisado só numa área do saber. (Ordem dos Enfermeiros, 2012) Em Portugal há cerca de 1.000 suicídios por ano, este aumento tem ocorrido desde o ano de 2000, na atualidade a taxa ronda os 10/100.000 habitantes. DESENVOLVIMENTO Os dados da Organização Mundial de Saúde (WHO,2013) indicam que anualmente cerca de 1.000.000 de pessoas se suicidam. Por cada suicídio consomado estima-se que sejam cometidos vinte comportamentos da esfera suicidária não são fatais. Nos últimos 45 anos as taxas de suicídio aumentaram 60% em todo o mundo O suicídio está entre as três principais causas de morte entre aqueles com idade de 15-44 anos, em alguns países, bem como a segunda principal causa de morte no grupo de 10-24 anos (WHO,2013). Através da análise dos registos sobre o suicídio em Portugal entre 1902 e 2011, constatámos a existência de uma tendência crescente do número de casos de óbito por suicídio, com exceção do período compreendido entre 1985 e 2000. Variando o seu número entre 236 óbitos por suicídio em 1902 e 1012 casos em 2011 (Freitas, 1982; EUROSTAT, 2013). O suicídio traz repercussões a nível familiar, escolar e/ou comunitário sendo por isso considerado um problema de saúde pública. O suicídio é um fenómeno multifacetado, complexo e universal que atinge todas as culturas, classes sociais e possui uma etiologia multivariada englobando elementos biológicos, neurológicos, genéticos, sociais, psicológicos culturais e ambientais. É indispensável o levantamento real e objetivo dos fatores de risco e de proteção, através de um efetivo diagnóstico da situação. Estes fatores são classificados com alguma diferença, por diferentes autores. No entanto, reside Apenas em relação à taxonomia, uma vez que são identificados praticamente os mesmos fatores. Os profissionais de Saúde devem assim, realizar uma avaliação do comportamento suicida e da sua relação com todos os fatores de risco e proteção identificados, com o objetivo de intervir eficazmente.

Este artículo analiza la difusión de tuits críticos de uno de los fallos judiciales más controvertidos y ampliamente publicitados en la historia española, que determinó que un grupo de hombres era culpable de abuso en lugar del delito de violación más grave, en 2018. El estudio tuvo como objetivo la validación para Chile de la escala Razones para Vivir (RFL) en una muestra intencionada y consecutiva de 705 consultantes a salud mental en la Región Metropolitana. La RFL evalúa la importancia atribuida a las razones para vivir cuando se piensa en el suicidio. Se analizó la estructura factorial a través de análisis exploratorio y confirmatorio del instrumento original. Se estudió la consistencia interna, la validez de constructo y la validez concurrente y se definieron los parámetros de puntajes. El punto de corte sugerido para Chile es 4,1, lo que significa que bajo este puntaje hay una mayor probabilidad de riesgo suicida. La sensibilidad es del 62,1% y la especificidad, 66%, considerado aceptable, dada la alta incidencia de falsos negativos y positivos. El resultado de la evaluación advierte a los tratantes para indagar clínicamente el riesgo suicida detectado en el momento de aplicar el instrumento. Además, para el tratamiento de pacientes con depresión y riesgo suicida, destaca el potencial adaptativo y terapéutico de las razones para mantenerse con vida cuando se está contemplando el suicidio. Palabras clave: suicidio, validación, riesgo, factores de protección The aim of the study was to validate the Reasons for Living (RFL) Inventory in Chile, using a purposive and consecutive sample of 705 mental health patients in the Metropolitan Region. The RFL scale assesses the importance ascribed to reasons for living when contemplating suicide. The factorial structure of the scale was analyzed through exploratory and confirmatory analysis of the original instrument. Internal consistency, construct validity, and concurrent validity were studied and score parameters were defined. The suggested cutoff point for Chile is 4.1, which means that lower scores indicate a higher probability of suicide risk. Sensitivity was estimated at 62.1% and specificity at 66%, which is considered to be acceptable, given the high incidence of false negatives and positives. The

Resumen El objetivo de este artículo es mostrar las diferentes formas clínicas en que se manifiestan las conductas suicidas, ponerlas en conexión con los diferentes trastornos mentales, mostrar los signos de alarma y discutir las posibles decisiones clínicas que se le ofrecen al terapeuta. La demanda terapéutica en relación con el suicidio está constituida por tres tipos de pacientes: a) aquellos que han sobrevivido a un intento de suicidio; b) los que acuden a la consulta manifestando ideación suicida; y c) los que tienen ideación suicida pero aún no la han expresado verbalmente. La alianza terapéutica empática con el paciente y la colaboración con la familia desempeñan un papel muy importante. Se señalan los objetivos terapéuticos en las diversas circunstancias y la necesidad de centrarse en el cambio de los factores modificables para contrarrestar el peso de los no modificables. The article highlights demographic issues of the risk of suicidal behavior with low self-esteem, difficulty puberty, alcohol and drug use, affecting the risk of suicidal behavior in adolescents. It has been established that suicidal behavior in adolescents riders on the basis of inability to realistically assess events, dissatisfaction with themselves.

espanolSe pretende construir y valorar las propiedades psicometricas de una escala de resiliencia ante tentativas suicidas (ERATS) en personas de la poblacion general (N=470) y en personas que hayan realizado alguna tentativa en la provincia de Jaen (N=131), realizando un seguimiento mensual sobre las futuras tentativas durante 6 meses en poblacion clinica. Background. Suicide attempts among pediatric patients are currently one of the most critical issues in modern psychiatry and emergency medicine, and constitute a serious public health problem that affects people of almost every age group. It is often emphasized that attempted suicide is a cry for help, and according to international studies, the pandemic year of 2020 massively impacted the frequency of suicide attempts among children. However, such studies have yet to appear in Poland. Objectives. To characterize the frequency, circumstances and methods of suicide attempts among children and adolescents, and investigate their relationship with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Materials and methods. The study retrospectively analyzed the medical records of 154 children admitted to the Emergency Department due to suicide attempts between January 2020 and June 2021. Results. No statistical relationship was found between the direct impact of the pandemic and suicide attempts among children and adolescents. However, age and gender influenced the methods used and the frequency of suicide attempts. Females are more likely to attempt suicide than males, and patients as young as 8 tried to take their own lives. Conclusions. Due to the increasing frequency of suicide attempts in children and adolescents, people at particular risk of such behaviors should be identified and provided with effective care. Unfortunately, although the vast majority of pediatric patients who attempted suicide had psychiatric consultations in the past, it did not prevent them from actively trying to end their lives. Furthermore, even children of a very young age are at risk of suicide events.

Presentamos un estudio cuantitativo de sujetos con conducta suicida, realizado en 176 pacientes consultantes en servicios de salud mental, los que tenían diagnóstico de trastorno depresivo, bipolar y adaptativo. Se estudió la percepción que ellos tenían acerca del modo en que habían sido cuidados por sus padres hasta los 16 años. Los resultados indican que el riesgo de un intento de suicidio de alta severidad se asocia a una percepción de cuidado parental, definido como negligencia en el cuidado y en la protección. Esta asociación sería particularmente clara con la figura paterna. Un vínculo paterno que privilegia la sobre protección, aun si presenta bajos niveles de cuidado, se asocia a menor riesgo de suicidio y/o a intentos suicidas de menor severidad. Un rol materno de cuidado pareciera ser un factor protector. Estos hallazgos abren preguntas importantes acerca de la necesidad de estudiar factores protectores o de riesgo, en los antecedentes biográficos de los pacientes con riesgo de suicidio.

Übersicht: Der Beitrag untersucht Zusammenhänge zwischen sozialer Unterstützung und Suizidalität bei 615 homo-und bisexuellen Personen in der Schweiz. In einer Internetumfrage wurden dazu Suizidgedanken, Suizidpläne und Suizidversuche, sowie diverse Aspekte sozialer Unterstützung und die soziale Belastung erfragt. Obwohl homo-und bisexuelle Personen hohe Werte sozialer Unterstützung und niedrige Werte sozialer Belastung aufwiesen, zeigten sich hohe 12-Monats-und Lebenszeitprävalenzen bezüglich Suizidgedanken,-plänen und-versuchen. Alle Aspekte sozialer Unterstützung waren mit der Suizidalität in den letzten zwölf Monaten assoziiert, wobei die Zusammenhänge mit der sozialen Integration (r =-.34) und der sozialen Belastung (r = .39) am stärksten ausfielen. Selbst bei Kontrolle der depressiven Stimmung und des Alters teilnehmender Personen blieben die soziale Unterstützung (OR = .61) und die soziale Belastung (OR = 2.13) prädiktiv für die Suizidalität in den letzten zwölf Monaten. Personen, die viel soziale Unterstützung wahrnahmen (> 1 SD über dem Mittelwert) berichteten fünfmal weniger Suizidalität als solche mit geringer sozialer Unterstützung (> 1 SD unter dem Mittelwert). Personen, die viel soziale Belastung in ihrem Umfeld wahrnahmen (> 1 SD über dem Mittelwert), zeigten im vergangenen Jahr 14-mal häufiger Suizidalität als Personen, die geringe soziale Belastung erlebten (> 1 SD unter dem Mittelwert).

Réflexion  sur  les  causes  plus  profondes  du  harcèlement  scolaire  en  général  et  sur  le  harcèlement  aux  surdoués  en  particulier, aussi  que  sur  les  très  graves  mais  ignorées  conséquences  du  harcèlement  pour  la  société, dont  la  perte  des  talents  n´est  que  la  moindre  de  toutes.

RESUMO: A partir de um conto ilustrativo, este artigo discute a medicalização do ensino. O recorte escolhido para isto é o modelo de escola hegemônico e os caminhos pelos quais este oferece solo fértil para tal fenômeno. Tendo o materialismo histórico como referencial teórico, este modelo tem sua naturalização desconstruída pelo desvelamento de suas raízes históricas e seus desencontros com o modo de vida e produção contemporâneos. Background: Globally, suicide is a significant cause of death among adolescents. Previous studies conducted in high-income countries suggest that students in alternative schools are more likely to engage in suicidal behaviors than those in formal schools. This study aimed to document suicidal ideation and behaviors among adolescent learners enrolled in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) in Manila, Philippines. Methods: A mixed methods study was conducted in 24 ALS centers in the city of Manila. ALS centers were stratified according to congressional district and selected using probability proportionate sampling. A cross-sectional survey to determine attitudes towards suicide and prevalence of suicidal ideation and behaviors was administered to 171 learners aged 13 to 17 years old. In-depth interviews with 18 teachers and 12 learners were conducted to explore the school psychosocial environment's role on learners' suicidal ideation and behaviors. Exploratory factor analysis was used to extract attitude factors. Fisher's exact test and Student's t-test were used to identify differences in sociodemographic characteristics and attitudes towards suicide between learners with or without suicidal ideation or behaviors. Qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: Non-specific active thoughts were the most common type of lifetime suicidal ideation (40.9%) while passive ideation was the most common in the past month (13.5%). Aborted suicide attempt was the most frequent behavior in both lifetime (16.4%) and in the past month (4.7%). Non-fatal suicide attempt in the past month was 2.3%, reaching 12. 9% for the entire lifetime. Age, sex, education, and attitudes towards suicide were significantly associated with suicidal ideation or behavior. Thematic analysis showed five themes: (1) fostering belongingness, (2) securing learners' safety, (3) teaching philosophy, (4) teacher and learner beliefs towards suicidal behavior, and (5) availability of school-offered and community-based services.

In the context of the recent Argentine law and the draft amendment of the Spanish law, this article aims to examine and compare the trajectories of abortions represented in the films Invisible (Argentina, 2017) and La innocència (Spain, 2020). Methodology/ Approach. We sustain a qualitative approach and the methodology used is the content analysis of films, focusing on the trajectories of the abortions represented there and articulating them with the Argentine and Spanish legal context in force at the time of the release of the films. Results/Findings. The results reflect the complexity of access to abortion, where illegality appears to be the first option, and the various limitations of young women's autonomy. Discussion/Conclusions/Contributions. The main contribution of the article is the questioning of bioethical aspects linked to the complexity of the decision-making process of abortion of young adolescents through the analysis of singular stories. In addition, the richness of the cinematographic format is confirmed, as it allows the deployment of these singular nuances for the analysis of complex situations.

Suicide behavior in adolescents can be prevented by recognizing risk factors and protective factors originating from themselves and the surrounding environment. This study aimed to identify risk factors and protective factors for adolescents who demonstrate suicidal behavior.MethodsA systematic search in four databases, including ScienceDirect, EBSCO, Direct Open Access Journal, and ProQuest, was performed using the terms “suicide,” “risk,” and “adolescent.” The search was limited to publications between 2015 and 2019. Objetivo: identificar y comparar la estructura semántica del dominio cultural, el conocimiento promedio y el grado de consenso cultural sobre las causas del intento de suicidio, los síntomas previos y las estrategias de prevención del intento de suicidio, además evaluar el funcionamiento familiar entre adolescentes mexicanos con y sin intento de suicidio. Método: Es un estudio mixto metodológicamente usando la técnica de listas libres y el inventario de recursos familiares en una muestra propositiva de 65 adolescentes (13 a 18 años) divididos en dos grupos. El grupo de adolescentes con tentativa suicida y un grupo control con adolescentes estudiantes sin antecedentes de conductas suicidas. Resultados: Los problemas familiares fueron la principal causa del intento suicida, mientras que la depresión y la tristeza fueron síntomas previos a una tentativa suicida en ambos grupos.
