The paper models AI-services market competition in the presence of superstar effects. By modifying the original Rosen's setup consistently with recent advancements of superstar theory, we discuss the role of scale-related technical change in the advent of superstar artificial intelligent agents and the main consequences of superstar effects on competition between AI-based systems. Furthermore, we outline how to extend the model for addressing three issues: (i) positive feedback loops from data accumulation; (ii) the co-evolution of artificial intelligence agents' capabilities and market size; and, (iii) the "winner-takes-all" dynamics triggered by superstar effects.

This article presents a thoroughly revised and expanded conceptual analysis of memory and bodily technique (habitus) in the culture of Western classical music, explicitly building upon the author's previous work (Fujiki, 2009). Integrating foundational theories from Bergson, Halbwachs, and Bourdieu with contemporary music sociology, the study develops a threelayered model of personal memory, collective memory, and embodied social habitus. The central conceptual innovations-"hybrid habitus" and "digital mimicry"-are critically elaborated as distinct phenomena of the digital and AI era. The article differentiates between digital and AI technologies, offering in-depth analysis of AI-powered platforms and their specific impacts on musical learning, embodiment, and social reproduction. A detailed empirical roadmap is provided, featuring explicit hypotheses and research questions, and pilot interview vignettes ground the theoretical proposals in real-world experience. Issues of diversity, intersectionality, and technological access are integrated throughout. The paper 2 concludes with recommendations for policy, education, and future research, aiming to provide a robust framework for the study of musical embodiment in an era of rapid technological transformation.

Bien que les prix des archives d'art latino-américain n'aient pas atteint les niveaux de certaines oeuvres emblématiques de la région, nous assistons depuis quelques années à leur insertion stratégique dans l'économie symbolique du marché mondial de l'art. Les documents de l'art latino-américain ont cessé de fonctionner comme un simple support académique de la provenance des oeuvres pour devenir un nouveau produit de l'économie symbolique de l'art. La condition déplacée, marginale et à la dérive des archives de l'art latinoaméricain-héritée de l'idée même d'art latino-américain-a facilité cette inflexion géo-esthétique, transformant le mal d'archive en bien d'archive : la rage de conserver l'archive donnant forme à une nouvelle ressource économique dans le système global de l'art. La question que nous posons dans ce texte est celle du rôle que jouent les documents artistiques latino-américains dans la construction des prix et des imaginaires économiques mondiaux.

S´il est vrai que pour l’économie classique, le marché est défini comme un échange autorégulé entre l’offre et la demande, nous savons aussi que d´autres facteurs entrent toujours en jeu. Au-delà des galeries, des ventes aux enchères et des différents types d’intermédiaires comme les marchands, les critiques et les sponsors, l´État a joué un rôle substantiel en stimulant et en soutenant le marché de l´art en Argentine. Cette présentation explore le panorama artistique argentin et l’émergence du marché de l’art dans les premières décennies du xxe siècle. La comparaison avec d’autres cas parallèles montre à quel point les prix, les salons et les acquisitions de l’État ont joué un rôle central dans le positionnement des écoles nationales, tant sur les scènes vernaculaires qu’à l’étranger.

Cet article retrace les origines du marché de l’art en Colombie au long du xixe siècle, bien avant l’institutionnalisation de cette pratique par les premières galeries d’art du pays dans les années 1950. Pour ce faire, il se concentre sur deux moments décisifs : les années 1860, lorsqu’un marché secondaire pour les œuvres d’art coloniales est apparu grâce aux politiques des gouvernements libéraux ; et les années 1880, lorsque la pratique des artistes s’est professionnalisée avec l’inauguration de l’École des beaux-arts de Colombie. Nous cherchons ici à comprendre l’apparente dissociation entre les préférences des premiers collectionneurs colombiens, publics et privés, et la manière dont plusieurs générations d’artistes ont exercé leur métier en l’absence d’un commerce régulier de leurs œuvres. Cette étude montre les différentes fonctions que les arts visuels ont acquises dans le pays au cours de la seconde moitié du xixe siècle et les différentes formes de collection qui ont émergé en Colombie au cours de cette période.

A BIENNALE DI VENEZIA, or the Venice Biennale, is the oldest and most prestigious international art exhibition anywhere. Established in 1895, this iteration titled Stranieri Ovunque (Foreigners Everywhere) was organized for the first time by a South American curator: Brazilian Adriano Pedrosa. The sprawling event centers around the Giardini, a 44-acre green space with a large exhibition hall and 30 smaller pavilions, and the Arsenale, a complex of shipyards built in 1104 CE. Like kudzu, the biennale takes over more spaces every year, testing the limits of even the most passionate art pilgrims. This year, 90 national pavilions are scattered throughout the city, including the Holy See and Venice itself, as well as 30 "collateral events. " It is an inaugural year for Ethiopia, Nicaragua, the Republic of Panama, Senegal, and Tanzania, and a milestone for Indigenous representation. Jeffrey Gibson (Mississippi Choctaw/Cherokee) represents the United States in a solo exhibition, the first Native American artist to do so. 1 Tracking down Indigenous artists proves to be challenging as not all identify as such, and Indigenous identity varies from nation to nation. Some artists prefer not to be pigeonholed. The overview of Native art in this year's Venice Biennale is in celebration of more inclusive and global snapshots of contemporary art, starting with the main exhibition (331 artists in two locations), followed by the national pavilions.

This article challenges the assumption in a classical sociology of art that artworks are created in the artist’s studio as independent and self-sufficient objects. Given that artistic production merges with exhibition making in contemporary art, I argue that the production of artworks needs to be situated in the exhibition space. In this institutional and physical environment, a set of scenographic principles dominate. Scenography is an ideology and method for exhibition making that emphasises the audience’s experience of the exhibition as a coherent entity. In the exhibition context, therefore, artworks are produced as an integral part of the scenography. Drawing upon six cases of solo exhibitions in museums and galleries, I reveal how the material, conceptual, and experiential features of artworks are shaped by scenographic considerations. The six cases also demonstrate the variations in the production of contemporary art. This article further develops the sociology of art in three ways. First, I show a middle way between the classical sociology of art and the recent material turn in cultural sociology. While the former explains artworks as social products but often fails to show the direct impact of social factors on features of artworks, the latter prioritises the agency of artworks qua artistic features but take these as given. Through the concept of scenography, I explain the social genesis of artistic features without prioritising human or non-human actors. Second, I call more attention to the dialogue with art history, especially its turns towards exhibitions for apprehending new developments in art. Third, the hybrid practices in visual art extend our understanding of artistic mediation as art itself, which becomes more applicable to different genres of art.

La degradation ou la destruction volontaire de biens symboliques est un phenomene omnipresent dans l'histoire humaine. Souvent, les œuvres ont ete endommagees parce qu’elles incarnaient des divinites, des representants du pouvoir, un imaginaire spirituel ou social. Avec l’avenement des musees et la transformation du statut des œuvres qu’ils conservent, ce phenomene adopte de nouvelles formes.Les atteintes portees intentionnellement a l’integrite d’œuvres d’art, lorsqu’elles se produisent dans des musees, sont porteuses d’enjeux specifiques, que cette these a pour objet d’analyser. Aujourd’hui, elles sont generalement designees par le terme de vandalisme, qui vehicule des representations qu’il s’agit d’interroger. Cette recherche, prenant appui sur l’analyse d’un corpus de cas de vandalisme perpetres entre 1970 et 2014 sur des œuvres exposees dans des musees d’art, en Europe et en Amerique du Nord, s’attache, dans une perspective sociologique, a examiner les ressorts de ces actes, mais aussi les diverses reactions qu’ils suscitent. Celles-ci peuvent etre saisies dans leur variabilite ; la confrontation de discours et de points de vue recueillis au cours d’entretiens avec divers acteurs concernes par le phenomene contribue a porter au jour des dispositions contrastees a l’egard des œuvres d’art. L’analyse de la reception sociale de ces actions constitue une voie d’acces privilegiee pour apprehender certains mecanismes de disqualification, y compris au sein du champ artistique. Certains de ces gestes sont en effet realises dans une optique de creation ou de dialogue artistique : ils font ici l’objet d’une attention particuliere en raison de ce qu’ils peuvent mettre en lumiere du fonctionnement du milieu de l’art.

This journal allows Serbian scholars, artists, and educators to have permanent scholarly communication and interchanging of knowledge and information with the world's renown artists, scholars, schools and universities. Since knowledge is fluid and dynamic in nature, and transmitted through discourse, it is important for those who have a stake in advancing the knowledge base to participate in the discourse. Writing, as a form of communication, and publishing are ways of participating in the discourse. Research article is the end product of an investigation that has focused on a specific set of research questions. Research must be carefully planned, conceptually grounded, and methodologically sound, and must provide answers or possible answers and implications for further investigations. This text follows the outline of a multi-scale and prismatic perspective on cultural spaces, a part of the book Reframing Sociology on Individuals, Art and Culture (Conde, 2024, 2024a3). The perspetive outlines a trilogy as multi-figuration1 with the zoom going from macrospaces of culture to the multi-folded category of transnational spaces, and the sectoral spaces as professional realms of art/cultural activities. These spaces are intersected figurations, transborder in many regards, and still by crossing-cut dimensions with a second trilogy of transcultural contents boosted by several connections and mobilities. Actually, a multi-problematic that will close the text (Conde, 2018a).

Orósùn in Ìdànrè, is observed to be a special traditional festival in Ondo State, Nigeria, which annually brings about positive changes in the lives of the people. The festival, which is richly endowed with dance and multifarious entertainment nuances largely, attracts people of various tones and shades because of its positive impact on them and the society at large on annual basis. In view of this, the study, through observatory method of research, believes that, if carefully harnessed, the therapeutic tendencies of dances in the festival are capable of facilitating various changes being envisaged in the society.

The COVID-19 pandemic was sprung upon the globe in 2020, and up till now the world still reels from its aftershocks. Without doubt, theatre is one of the worst hit sectors in the global economy. This is because the COVID-19 induced protocols and lockdown policies are hostile to the nature and practice of theatre. In Nigeria, theatre workers were ill-prepared for the effects of the onslaught of the dreaded virus on their livelihoods, and they struggle to adapt to their current stark realities. However, the Eko Theatre Carnival (ETC) 2020 braved the storm and presented itself in what Segun Adefila-the festival director, coins a 'Real_Tual' format. This coinage of the words 'real' and an abbreviated 'virtual', basically refers to a blend of the minimized live and maximized virtual performances. In this paper, I investigate what the previous editions of the Eko Theatre Carnival were like, what has changed, and plans for future editions as the festival adapts to the new world order. For this study, I employ the participant observation method to collate data, and I adopt Adefila's 'Real_tual' approach to interrogate the pros and cons of distributing theatre presentations through digital means. The paper explores the challenges and prospects of performing during the pandemic, and what the future of theatre in Nigeria looks like. This study finds that digital media skills, creative collaborations, and promoting virtual theatre presentations are features of the new normal in producing theatrical performances for global consumption.

Social change towards more sustainable lifestyles is not caused
and implemented by normative directives and political decisions alone.
Cultural production can act as a factor that promotes or prevents public
awareness of the worldwide challenges we face today. On the one hand,
high and popular artworks attract local and global audiences and impact
the social imaginaries of many. On the other hand, what we call culture
has a long-term effect. Culture constitutes accumulated resources,
material or immaterial, which individuals inherit, use, change, add to, and
transmit. When socially recognised and valued, the cultural elements
handed down from generation to generation become heritage, linking the
already-dead to the not-yet-born.
This brief essay explores why culture matters for sustainability and how
creative and artistic endeavours may sharpen people’s consciousness
of their actions and aspirations, promote feelings of responsibility for
the environment, and trigger civic agency in the face of a climate and
ecological emergency. The argumentative framework draws from recent
developments in the disciplinary subfields of the sociology of culture and
the arts and the interdisciplinary field of cultural studies.
These pages also approach the so-called ecological turn in the arts,
demonstrating its plausibility through empirical analyses of examples
from the plastic, visual, and performing arts that currently cover an
array of environmental topics, from natural disasters to climate change,
helping us cope with the precariousness of near and distant scenarios. All
art pieces were selected from a single-case study conducted in Quinta
do Pisão, a nature park on the outskirts of Cascais, a coastal town west
of Lisbon, in Portugal. Three open-air art installations or interventions,
part of the broad movement known as land art or environmental art, are
briefly reviewed and contextualised.
The findings, even if quite provisory and limited, reinforce the idea
that environmentalism is already established within the art world. The
ecological ethics of twenty-first-century artworks are, in fact, integral
to their overall aesthetic value. However, further research is needed to
understand how artworks may reach individuals and society and how
their webs of significance can be bequeathed to future generations.

Obwohl es in der deutschsprachigen Soziologie gegenwärtig zum guten Ton zu gehören scheint, die Vernachlässigung der räumlichen Dimension sozialer, gesellschaftlicher und kultureller Phänomene zu beklagen und eine Intensivierung der theoretischen Anstrengungen zu deren systematischer Berücksichtigung anzumahnen 1 , so spricht doch manches dafür, dass Michel Foucault für seine gänzlich anders ausfallende Einschätzung nicht weniger Plausibilität beanspruchen kann. In seinem Systematisierungsversuch unterschiedlicher Heterotopien, den er unter den Titel Andere Räume gestellt hat, findet sich eine knappe historische Skizze, in der er die Vermutung formuliert, dass die Fixierung auf die Geschichte, die noch das 19. Jahrhundert charakterisiert habe, längst von einer Orientierung an räumlichen Ordnungen abgelöst worden sei: "Wir sind in der Epoche des Simultanen, wir sind in der Epoche der Juxtaposition, in der Epoche des Nahen und des Fernen, des Nebeneinander, des Auseinander." 2 Mustert man daraufhin etwa die Geschichte der Soziologie, fällt auf, dass sich schon zu Beginn der noch jungen Disziplin namhafte Vertreter wiederholt räumlichen Phänomenen sozialer Ordnungen zuwenden. So arbeitet etwa Georg Simmel in seine Soziologie nicht nur den bereits 1903 skizzierten Entwurf einer ‚Soziologie des Raumes' ein, in der er die Neutralisierung körperlicher Nähe als Voraussetzung für die Entwicklung sozialer Differenzierung behauptete, sondern rückt darüber hinaus in das Zentrum seines vielleicht bekanntesten Exkurses die Figur des Fremden, um die unterschiedlichen Effekte von Nähe und Distanz, von Vertrautheit und Fremdheit, von Inklusion und Exklusion zu demonstrieren. 3 Und als es bald darauf-in den 1920er Jahren-zur Begründung der Wissenssoziologie durch Karl Mannheim kommt, greift dieser ebenfalls auf die Kategorie des Raums zurück. Dabei unterscheidet er zwischen Utopien und Heterotopien. Utopien sind "unwirkliche Räume". Le musée d’art latino-américain de Buenos Aires (MALBA) pourrait être considéré comme un cas paradigmatique de ce que Robert Fleck (2014) a appelé « les musées du xxie siècle » : un nouveau type de musée fondé sur l’image de marque. Ce concept est en phase avec les débats qui, à partir des années 1980, ont proposé la fin du musée conçu comme un lieu élitiste de préservation du canon, pour laisser place à une institution muséale conçue comme un média de masse qui adhère aux logiques du spectacle. C’est ce que postule Andreas Huyssen (1994) lorsqu’il analyse le phénomène de muséalisation observable dans l’augmentation des inaugurations de musées et l’intérêt croissant du public pour l’expérience muséale.
Cet article propose d’analyser le musée latino-américain de Buenos Aires (MALBA), comme un cas paradigmatique dans lequel deux catégories conceptuelles coexistent puisqu’il s’agit d’un musée du xxie siècle conçu comme un média de communication de masse. De ses propositions d’expositions à ses campagnes de diffusion, le musée s’approprie la logique du spectacle, constituant un star-system de l’art latino-américain, variable selon les objectifs du branding. Nous nous intéressons non seulement à la manière dont le MALBA se construit en tant que marque, mais aussi aux mécanismes discursifs par lesquels certains artistes latino-américains et certaines idées de « latino-américanité » servent le positionnement institutionnel. Ces stratégies de marque sont basées sur le modèle du MoMA de New York. Cet article présente donc : a) une étude des stratégies de communication institutionnelle des deux musées ; b) une analyse de quatre organisations de la collection du musée (de 2010 à 2022) pour observer les différentes manières de présenter l’histoire de l’art latino-américain et la latino-américanité ; et c) une analyse de la construction de la marque MALBA à partir des artistes qui composent sa collection.

Contemporary dimensions of acting are analyzed in the article. The problem of teaching acting has always been relevant. An analysis of the panorama of contemporary Basque art in the 20th and 21st centuries shows that New York has replaced Paris in terms of attraction and fascination over the last few decades. As the biographies of many contemporary Basque artists testify (Itziar Okariz, Beñat Iglesias Lopez, Sergio Prego, Itziar Barrio, Ines Madina, etc.), creative exile has become synonymous with a necessary step in terms of career strategy.

Este estudo visa analisar diálogos recentes e, muitas vezes, divergentes entre as artes visuais e as ciências sociais, de maneira a ajudar na compreensão de nosso presente conflituoso e polifônico. It is a well-known fact that the working life of the artist is many-sided. Actors, painters or dancers have always been jobbing in the catering industry or education to help them achieve their real dream: to be an autonomous artist. In economic terms this would mean the artist can live off his or her art. In L'artiste pluriel: Démultiplier l'activité pour vivre de son art (The Plural Artist: Diversifying Your Vocation to Make Art Your Living) a number of researchers demonstrate that this plural professional practice applies to almost all disciplines in the world of art. Musicians, comedians, artists, actors, architects and dancers-whether classical or hip hop-all come under scrutiny. And in all these different professional fields the researchers find plural activities. Differentiated professional practice is what lies at the core of artistic existence. But how do we define 'plural'? Marie-Christine Bureau and Roberta Shapiro comment in the book that different notions of this concept can exist side by side. In their introductory chapter they aim to create conceptual clarity by pointing to the distinction that needs to be made between polyvalence, polyactivity and pluriactivity. Artists employed in a polyvalent capacity carry out different tasks within their own artistic discipline. One could, for example, be an actor and also do administrative work at the same theatre company. The polyactive artist, on the other hand, fills a number of posts in different fields. The well-known example of the artist who also waits tables in a restaurant comes under this category. And the term pluriactivity, finally, is reserved by the authors to distinguish between activities within their own artistic 'metier', such as the musician who is also a sound engineer.
