Bilgi ve Belge Yönetimi Bölümleri (BBY) müfredatlarında yer alan derslerin kuramsal bir çerçevede öğretilmeleri ve uygulamalı eğitimle desteklenmeleri önemli bir sorundur. Müfredatın kuram ve uygulama alanlarının birbirlerini tamamlayacak ve bütüncül bir eğitim gerçekleştirilecek şekilde yürütülmesiyle bu önemli sorunun aşılabileceği açıktır. Türkiye'de Bilgi ve Belge Yönetimi Bölümlerinde işlenen kütüphanecilik ve dokümantasyon-enformasyon dersleri kadar, arşivcilik dersleri de benzer şekilde uygulamalı eğitim ile desteklenme gereksinimi içerisindedir. Türkiye'de arşivcilik eğitimine ilişkin uygulamalı eğitim sorunu, Bilgi ve Belge Yönetimi Bölümlerinin öğrencilerinin lisans eğitimleri süresi içinde gerçek-leştirdikleri staj uygulamalarıyla çözülmeye çalışılmaktadır. Bu uygulamaların başarılarının ve eğitime katkılarının değerlendirilebilmesi ve çağın gereklerine göre sektör-üniversite uyumunun sağlanması önemli bir gereksinimdir. Bu çalışmada, İstanbul Üniversitesi Bilgi ve Belge Yönetimi Bölümü müfredat programında yer alan iki ayrı staj uygulamasından biri olan ve arşivcilik hizmet alanı uygulamalarını kapsamı içine alan "Staj Değerlendirmesi II" dersinin arşivcilik uygulaması yönü ve söz konusu stajı yapan örgün ve ikinci öğretim öğrencilerinin arşiv staj uygulamaları hakkındaki görüşleri uygulanan anketin sonuçlarına dayanılarak değerlendirilmiştir.

Resumo A característica mais saliente das sociedades humanas é a sua diversidade e complexidade. Quando se capta a sua essência há, necessariamente, dimensões sistémicas e domínios específicos que dela ressaltam. Os aspetos centrais do funcionamento de cada comunidade coexistem tanto com vetores transversais como com elementos mais periféricos. Sem o reconhecimento desta composição multidimensional a compreensão da totalidade fica comprometida. Logo, os processos de memorialização, para conseguirem transportar a memória mais exata possível ao longo do tempo, devem procurar apreender o passado na sua globalidade. Até ao momento, as políticas arquivísticas têm-se focado sobretudo na salvaguarda da memória das organizações públicas e em algumas privadas, como as de matriz religiosa. A viragem para a abordagem societal pretende alargar consistentemente o leque da ação protetora sobre os arquivos não públicos, de modo a assegurar a sua preservação e a construção de uma memória inclusiva, plural e democrática.

Drawing on the findings of research in adult teams in two local authorities in England, this article examines what social workers with older people do, how this contributes to older people's well-being, and the impact of the social and organizational context of practice. Researchers observed social workers in their practice, interviewed social workers, older people, family carers, and other workers, analysed older people's records, and examined social workers' calendars. Framework analysis was used to chart the data in relation to social work capabilities, well-being outcomes for older people, and contextual influences. The article illustrates key findings with reference to examples drawn from social workers' practice with three older people and family carers. It then discusses three cross-cutting themes: rights and risks; therapeutic engagement; and navigating boundaries. We conclude that the complexity and value of social work www.basw.co.uk

I co-curated the exhibition together with Meredith Malone.

Part 2 delves into the works by Jumana Manna and Kapwani Kiwanga to develop the concept of the container and its relationship to the artistic medium of sculpture.

Kieresowi bez wątpienia zaszkodziło zbyt pospieszne ferowanie wyroku w tej ostatniej sprawie, jeszcze przed ogłoszeniem wyników badań przez powołaną przez niego komisję historyków z IPN oraz przed wystąpieniem ówczesnego Rzecznika Praw Obywatelskich prof. Andrzeja Zolla, zaniepokojonego sposobem rozgrywania przez Instytut tej trudnej sprawy. Prezes wydawał się być wtedy gotowy do ustąpienia ze swojej funkcji, ale były to tylko pozory. Przewodniczący Kolegium IPN dr Sławomir Radoń, zaproponował wówczas, by Kieres udał się na urlop i przekazał kierowanie Instytutu Januszowi Krupskiemu. W tej kryzysowej dla Instytutu sytuacji jedyna, ale ważna decyzja wydana przez Krupskiego dotyczyła formalnego zakazu spotkania się dyrektorów oddziałów regionalnych IPN w Warszawie 59 . Postąpił tak, ponieważ prawo nie przewidywało takiej formy spotkań w ramach IPN 60 . Wtórną sprawą były dla niego krążące po Instytucie plotki o tym, że dyrektorzy regionalni rozmawiali jakoby o wyrażeniu poparcia dla kandydatury jednego z nich -Janusza Kurtyki -na stanowisko prezesa IPN 61 . Spośród niewielkich sukcesów Krupskiego można wymienić przypisywany mu wpływ na prezesa Kieresa w sprawie zgody na umieszczenie siedziby IPN w gmachu przy ul. Towarowej w Warszawie 62 . Jego rola widoczna była przede wszystkim we współroku głównym opiekunem pielgrzymów polskich w Rzymie, asystentem audiencji generalnych i specjalnych

Linking archives, memory and landscape, this article considers a series of questions, and attempts to address some of them: How do archivists and scholars who concern themselves with archives think about place and its relationship to records? Why and how is place archival? How are those archival relationships expressed and what do they signify for the people inhabiting that space? What are the memory implications of the relationship between place, archives and community and how are traditional archives both the products of place as well as influencers themselves upon the landscape?

Analyzes attitudes and use of archives by post-colonial scholars who find that colonial records offer the voices of the master narrative but do not reflect the voices of the oppressed and voiceless. Argues that framing records within social provenance and a 'community of records' offers archival solutions to the dilemmas of locating all voices within the spaces of records.

Con questa incisione di Francesco del Pedro per l'opera "Fasti Veneti" pubblicata nel primo periodo della Municipalità provvisoria (1797), Bajamonte Tiepolo viene descritto come sfortunato eroe della difesa della Repubblica di Venezia dal tiranno Gradenigo. La vicenda di Bajamonte Tiepolo e della sua congiura, risalente agli albori del XIV secolo, incise così profondamente sulla vita e l'immaginario dei Veneziani che la breve filastrocca era ancora viva nella memoria popolare di Venezia al tempo della mia infanzia, dopo la metà del XX secolo. La strofa su Bajamonte Tiepolo mi veniva infatti recitata anche da mia madre (che non era un'erudita ma un'ostessa) quando a brani e lacerti cercava di spiegarmi la Storia di Venezia. Allora come oggi, era dato per scontato che Bajamonte Tiepolo fosse un aspirante tiranno. Ma Bajamonte Tiepolo non aveva questa reputazione nei decenni che precedettero e nei mesi che seguirono la caduta di Venezia dallo stato di Repubblica. La questione della congiura Querini-Tiepolo meglio nota come "Congiura di Bajamonte Tiepolo", allora, e nei secoli precedenti, mostrava una vitalità e una presa sociale sul Popolo di Venezia ben più intense della semplice sopravvivenza di una filastrocca. La figura di Bajamonte Tiepolo, per quello che possiamo leggere nelle carte e nei discorsi del tardo Settecento, era divenuta emblematica per quei veneziani che guardava alle "nuove idee d'Oltralpe" come a una speranza di ritorno alla naturalità primigenia della Repubblica, ormai da circa un secolo gravemente impastoiata nella corruzione e nel dominio incontrastato di pochi "paroni de Venessia", discendenti dinastici o politici di coloro che avevano represso la Congiutra di Bajamonte Tiepolo. In questa fazione trovavano luogo gaudenti come Francesco Battaja, che mal soffrivano l'ipocrita perbenismo di cui si ammantava la società veneziana, idealisti fragili come Ugo Foscolo e ribelli sfortunati e raggirati come Carlo Contarini. Era la fazione più eterogenea, ingenua e sciocca tra quelle in gioco, tuttavia per tradizione imputava la decadenza di Venezia dallo stato aulico di Repubblica proprio a quelle leggi e quell'Albo d'Oro, instaurati dal doge Pietro Gradenigo e dai suoi accoliti, che vanno sotto il nome di "Serrata del Maggior Consiglio" e che innescarono la rivolta di Bajamonte Tiepolo. Bajamonte Tiepolo, agli occhi di questi "giacobini", aveva tentato di spodestare il Doge per impedire quella svolta oligarchica. Dai discorsi riportati nella "Raccolta di Carte del Veneto Governo" (vol. III, 1797) risulta evidente che il mito di Bajamonte Tiepolo difensore della Repubblica di Venezia era ben vivo, al punto che ci fu chi propose di scolpire delle lapidi che lo ricordassero come eroe e altre che bollassero il Gradenigo come sordido tiranno. Le medesime "Carte" testimoniano che in quell'atmosfera infuocata vi fu un medico, Francesco Aglietti acceso "giacobino", il quale volle il suggello della documentazione storica su quelle lapidi da apporre all'eroismo di Bajamonte Tiepolo. Aglietti indisse dunque un concorso fra gli eruditi offrendo ben 50 zecchini a chi fosse riuscito a scovare i documenti che dovevano scagionare gli antichi congiurati e trasferire l'infamia della Storia sul Doge Pietro Gradenigo. Per l'occasione furono aperti tutti gli archivi della Serenissima Repubblica e 12 studiosi accolsero la sfida.

Alle origini della birra, antica bevanda e moneta naturale Dalla Mesopotamia all'Egitto: la birra tra tradizione, scambio e innovazione 14 GIUGNO 2025, FRANCESCO FERLAINO Le origini della birra risalgono a oltre 7.000 anni fa, con le prime tracce trovate in Mesopotamia, dove i Sumeri la producevano e la consideravano un dono divino Secondo alcuni studi, le prime tracce di un prodotto assimilabile alla moderna birra sarebbero rintracciabili già nel VII millennio a.C. nel sito neolitico di Jiahu, uno dei primi insediamenti della Cina centrale, situato nei pressi del Fiume Giallo, nella provincia di Henan: infatti, tra i reperti archeologici databili a quest'epoca, sono stati rinvenuti anche resti di vasi di ceramica che contenevano un fermentato di riso aromatizzato con miele e biancospino. In seguito, ulteriori ritrovamenti nella stessa area cinese, risalenti al IV millennio a.C., hanno evidenziato segni di produzione della birra con uso di altri cereali (orzo, miglio) ed un procedimento che già prevedeva le fasi di maltaggio, ammostatura e fermentazione. In questo stesso periodo, anche in altre civiltà antiche, quali in particolare l'Egitto e la Mesopotamia, si diffondeva ampiamente la birra sia come alimento e bevanda, nella forma di un sostanzioso "pane liquido", sia come mezzo di scambio e moneta "naturale" utilizzata nelle transazioni economiche. Tra le fonti testuali egiziane, è interessante citare la storia dell'oasita eloquente che, rivolgendosi a sua moglie, disse: Ecco, io scenderò in Egitto per riportare cibo per i miei figli. Va', dunque, a misurarmi l'orzo che è nel granaio, quello che resta (dell'anno passato). Essa gli misurò 26 misure d'orzo e questo oasita disse a sua moglie: tieni, (ci saranno) per te 20 misure d'orzo per il mantenimento tuo e dei tuoi figli. Con le altre 6 misure, fammi dunque pane e birra per ogni giorno in cui (sarò in viaggio). In Mesopotamia, centro di massima diffusione della bevanda ricavata dai cereali, la complessa pratica della birrificazione, richiedente diverse operazioni successive, risulta ben documentata fin da età sumerica, come si può leggere in alcuni passi di un inno in onore di Ninkasi, dea della birra, databile intorno al 1800 a.C.:

The Thresholds of Sub(e)merging: Contemporary Moving-Image Art and the Archive in Turkey

This collaborative article elaborates on the artistic and archival forms and methods in Turkey that are being shaped by the cultural and political emergencies in the country, including the systematic violence against dissenting voices, the loss of freedom of expression, the suppression of different identities, and the erosion of democratic institutions. Through our proposed conceptual frameworks, we hope to understand and analyze how the sub(e)merging potentials of artistic and archival visual practices in Turkey embody modes of resistance and protest in the midst of increasing authoritarianism, coupled with socioeconomic instability and environmental degradation, leading to a constant crisis. For this reason, we focus on a series of contemporary moving-image artworks and archival footage that we see as assembling various layers of the sub(e)merging visual modes, affective relationalities, and the emerging Anthropocene archive that promises to document what remains unarchivable. In the following, we argue that the conditions of in-betweenness, vagueness, pessimism, vulnerability, and uncertainty in Turkey entail a quest for new analytical accounts and research methods transcending dualistic representational regimes.

A cross-disciplinary perspective of the medial, aesthetic, and material aspects of submerging, as well as its methodological qualities as a resistant practice and figure of thought.

Whether it is the ocean, the ground or soil, a metaphorical or symbolic underworld or a political figure of thought, the subsurface intervenes in recent debates about ecological, social and postcolonial conflicts and power inequalities in the humanities and beyond. However, turning to the unstable grounds of the subterranean always involves a conceptual or methodological movement and a practice of submersion, and thus a critical reflection on the conditions, technologies, aesthetics and politics of knowledge production. It is precisely at this point that the volume picks up with approaches from the fields of artistic practice as well as media studies, art history, queer theory, and decolonial studies. From this transdisciplinary perspective, the anthology explores the medial, aesthetic, and material aspects of sub(e)merging as well as its potential as a resistant practice and figure of thought: from submerging as emerging.

S'analitza el paper de l’escriptura com a eina de govern i control a la Corona d’Aragó durant el segle XV, centrant-se especialment en el regnat d’Alfons el Magnànim i la lloctinència de la reina Maria. A través de la documentació reial, es mostra com la monarquia utilitzà l’escriptura per fer present el seu poder, reglar la societat i regular la memòria de l’acció de govern per mitjà de la paraula escrita.

The study focused on analyzing the role of archival practices in promoting environmental sustainability and learn about the contribution of the intermediate archives at Oman Airports Company in promoting environmental sustainability. Utilizing a qualitative research method, the study gathered data through interviews to meet its objectives. It highlighted five crucial elements that contribute to environmental sustainability in archives, in line with Oman Vision 2040 and e-government initiatives: energy consumption, facilities management, reducing carbon emissions, pollution control, environmental awareness, and policy implementation. A significant finding was the impact of renewable energy and responsible electricity usage on fostering environmental sustainability. The study also pinpointed various practices that help mitigate environmental pollution, such as incorporating indoor plants in the workplace, using eco-friendly products, and implementing sustainable waste disposal practices through recycling and reusing. Moreover, the findings revealed that Oman Airports Company, particularly the intermediate archive, actively engages in efforts to enhance environmental sustainability, integrating these practices into the company’s overall policies. The study recommends boosting awareness campaigns to promote both local and institutional environmental consciousness. It also suggests recognizing and rewarding employees who opt for sustainable practices in archive-related tasks and improving document and transportation management to minimize environmental impact.

Digital preservation is widely recognized as a critical necessity for organizations worldwide. Archival professionals consider it a pressing issue, recognizing its central role in contemporary information management practices. This study aims to illuminate the challenges and opportunities in this field, specifically focusing on the accessibility and preservation of institutional archives in the Sultanate of Oman. Utilizing a mixed-methods research design, it includes an extensive review of relevant literature and semistructured interviews with administrative personnel from various public organizations in Oman. A purposive sampling strategy was employed to select 10 individuals, each possessing the required expertise and experience in this field, from different government agencies to participate in these interviews. The findings indicate that professionals in Omani institutions highly value digital preservation, citing reasons such as enhanced document accessibility, improved organizational efficiency and security, and compliance with national archival regulations. Despite this, the methods used for digital preservation vary across institutions. The study identifies several obstacles, including threats to digital security, the complexity of managing vast amounts of data, the rapid outdatedness of technology, and challenges related to human resource management.

This article presents an innovative method for researching quotidian photography, particularly Real Photo Postcards (RPPC), by combining performance studies and archival sciences with oral narrative. The Nuanced Archival Triangulation (NAT) method culminates evidence from public records, newspapers, and local and non-traditional archival repositories with living family stories, resulting in a more nuanced approach to understanding people featured in visual archives. The NAT method extends and adapts Hulme's methodology for researching textual archives of queer defendants in the United Kingdom in the early 20th century while also including Pennavaria's genealogical methods that involve the family in historical research. The NAT methodology is comprised of four steps. Step one begins with examining traditional genealogical records of the person studied from the RPPC via Ancestry.com. Next, newspaper archives are accessed to uncover information about the individual's social life to contextualize the biographical information found in step one. Then, guerilla research is used to locate non-traditional, undigitized evidence related to the studied person. And finally, that person's family is contacted to solicit personal artifacts and family stories that illuminate the person's lived story to share agency with the living relatives of the primary RPPC subject. This paper employs the NAT method in a case study centering on an RPPC of Dale Smith and Alvin Ruddick, two Navy sailors who served in WWII. By locating relevant biographical evidence, speculation about the subjects' sexual identities is investigated in the RPPC. This paper concludes by discussing how the NAT methodology can amplify marginalized communities' visual archives.

In recent years, health and government information systems have made gender vari- ance more visible and countable in the records. However, being counted has created novel forms of vulnerability for transgender and gender-diverse populations. This paper explores the complexity of records in exposing vulnerabilities of marginaliza- tion, illustrating how recordkeeping practices may contribute to erasure and stigma and reproduce systems of social disenfranchisement. The paper introduces the con- cept of ‘hostile recordkeeping practices’ as a critical analytical lens to articulate observations of marginalization in recordkeeping environments, to discuss indica- tors of bias, and to develop mechanisms for surfacing issues of trauma, violence, stigma, and repair. Using examples from the published literature, the paper discusses the importance of understanding social interactions which exacerbate marginaliza- tion within recordkeeping practices. Based on a case study, the paper argues that the dangers trans and gender-diverse individuals routinely encounter in recordkeeping practices necessitate additional analytical inquiry into hostile recordkeeping prac- tices. The case study contributes to discussions of ethics of care for records for mar- ginalized populations and includes interactional considerations, ethical considera- tions and historical contexts embedded in recordkeeping systems. The paper closes with an argument for the need to adapt existing recordkeeping practices to safe- guard against hostile uses, systemic bias and structural violence. Future archival and medical discourses alike need to engage with the situation(s) of creation, the acts of recording, and, most importantly, personal agency in the negotiations of allowable uses for the records for marginalized populations.

Archives have the potential to change people’s lives. They are ‘a fundamental bulwark of our democracy, our culture, our community and personal identity’. They are created in the first instance for the ‘conduct of business and to support accountability’, but they also ‘meet the requirements of society for transparency and the protection of rights’, they underpin citizen’s rights in a democratic state and are the raw material of our history and memory. Archivists and records managers are the professionals responsible for ensuring that these qualities are protected and exploited for the public good. Do they belong to a mature profession, equipped for this challenge in the 21st century? Nesse dia,"o caminho para a democracia" foi aberto para a República Tcheca. A tão falada Revolução de Veludo, uma ação relativamente pacífica, foi apoiada por estudantes representando a força motriz do período democrático que se seguiu. Depois de 1990, a República Tcheca começou a construir um novo sistema legal e jurídico democrático (parte do Estatuto da União Europeia), com novas instituições, como o Tribunal Constitucional, a Ouvidoria, e um novo sistema econômico (passando de um sistema controlado pelo Estado para uma economia de livre mercado). The aim of this study was to investigate sound records management in Nairobi City County (N.C.C) in enhancing service delivery with the intention of making recommendations. The study adopted the descriptive research design. The target population of the study included all the 22 records clerks in the various departments of Nairobi City County as well as the records manager. A census approach was used to select all the 22 records clerks staff while purposive sampling technique was used to select the records manager. The results of the study established that generally, the respondents perceived that their knowledge was good based on their professional educational training. However, they had had no in-house training on records management. It was revealed that both manual and electronic formats were used in the storage of records at N.C.C and the manual format was the most dominant. In addition, the study also found that in as much as there were some records that were being captured, stored and retrieved through use of ICTs, the N.C.C top management had no goodwill, commitment and support the use of ICTs in records management function. It was also established although N.C.C has a records management policy, it was rarely complied with and there was no mechanism in place to monitor the staffs' compliance with it. The policy has also not been reviewed since its formulation. The records management personnel were competent based on their knowledge and skills on records management. The study also concluded that the top management of N.C.C did not have the good will to facilitate full adoption of ICTs in the records management functions. The study recommended that the records manager should establish a mechanism through which the records management policy could be complied with by the personnel. The study also recommended that the top management of N.C.C should have the good will, commitment and support to ensure that digitization and automation of records management activities.

Background: This article is part of a doctoral research study that, amongst others, assessed e-records readiness and examined the current records management practices in labour organisations in Botswana. The main objective of the study was to examine records management practices in labour organisations in Botswana Methods: A quantitative paradigm largely guided this study. The researchers used a survey research strategy. Methodological triangulation of both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods complemented the strategy. The researchers surveyed all of the 50 registered labour organisations in Botswana. Of these, 45 responded. This is a response rate of 90%. The researchers obtained their data through structured questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, document reviews and observations. The study showed that labour organisations in Botswana had some form of records management function. However, the management of both paper-based and electronic records was not satisfactory and fell short of the best-recognised records management standards and practices. Although the researchers limited the study to labour organisations, it sheds light on the challenges of managing records that most organisations in Botswana face. Its results provide useful strategic recommendations to promote effective records management in labour organisations in Botswana and elsewhere in Africa.

Interactions between LGBTQ2+ communities and the police are historically fraught with violence. LGBTQ2+ activists demand equitable police relationships, legal recognition, and protection under the law. However, LGBTQ2+ groups also tend to hold more antagonistic views of the police. How have gay and lesbian activists navigated this tension? This article draws from 246 archival documents and 313 newspaper articles focusing on events from 1981 to 2001 between gay and lesbian organizations, activists, and the police in Toronto, Canada. This paper illustrates how gay and lesbian activists eventually formed police alliances as a result of homophobic police brutality and public gay bashings. Recognizing the centrality of safety in these conversations, I conclude with a discussion of political compromises LGBTQ2+ investments in policing may take.

Highlighting his recent works, “Record-Making and Record-Keeping in Early Societies” (2021) and “Records, Information and Data: Exploring the Role of Record-Keeping in an Information Culture” (2018), the paper addresses challenges in mapping these terms across languages, emphasizing the gradual expansion of archival terminology and practices. Yeo’s approach sheds light on divergent interpretations across regions, advocating for more inclusive views that incorporate local archival traditions. In discussing the evolution of archives and records, he critiques modern Western influences, encouraging deeper consideration of non-Western perspectives. Moreover, the analysis of records as a distinct entity from documents raises questions about the ontological boundaries within archival studies, particularly in English-speaking traditions, as contrasted with Romance languages. This article also connects archival terminology with broader scientific discourses, specifically with Hispano-Lusophone vocabulary, reflecting on how contemporary shifts towards information governance, data management, and artificial intelligence are reshaping archival practices. Through this lens, Yeo calls for nuanced understandings of records and information to maintain their epistemic significance, especially amidst evolving digital environments. In this light, the paper provides a vital contribution to the field, encouraging ongoing dialogue about how cultural, linguistic, and technological factors inform archival science.

The article is an attempt at archival investigation on the history of the most unusual objects stored in the Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts (RGADA), around which a whole corpus of academic legends has developed: two mummified human fingers. The authors trace the history of their storage, while also examining various issues of Soviet and pre-revolutionary archival work, especially the history of the Verkhoturskaia prikaznaia izba fund. They also reconstruct the circumstances in which the fingers found their way into the court file of a murder case that took place in 1665 in the Vogul (Mansi) community. The authors try to establish what
role this unusual evidence played in the court procedure, which included the filing of a petition, interrogation of the parties and witnesses, confrontation, and then the filing of a conciliatory petition and the passing of two judgements more than five years apart. The article touches upon the attitude of the state and society to murder and addresses the issue of when reconciliation of the parties in murder cases was allowed, when adversarial judicial procedure was used, and when judges switched
to ‘inquisition,’ which implied their active role in the investigation, in particular with the use of torture. The article is accompanied by a full-text publication of the court case, with historical commentary and biographical notes on all those involved.

Binding books “in the Greek manner” (“alla greca”, but also “al greco”, “alla grechessa”), imitating and replicating Byzantine techniques, was one of the practices associated with “Greekness” in Italy and other parts of western Europe in the early modern era. This book analyses the trends, patterns, and contexts associated with making Greek-style bindings in early modern Venice and elsewhere in western Europe between the 1450s and the end of the sixteenth century. It considers how techniques evolved over time as well as production and consumption practices: what kinds of manuscripts and printed books received Greek-style bindings, who made them, who collected them, and what meanings the bindings themselves conveyed. Coming into fashion at a time of major changes (coinciding with the fall of Constantinople, the Greek diaspora, and the coming of printing), in western Europe Greek-style bindings at times signified antiquarianism, exoticism, luxury, or a proximity to Greek culture. Through the analysis of several hundred specimens in the style and of documentary and visual sources, this book explores how a specific instance of material culture served a number of purposes and self-fashioning strategies for bibliophiles, collectors, and intermediaries alike within the context of Renaissance cultures; it also features a census of all known bindings in the style made in western Europe.

This paper discusses the concept of electronic record as articulated and used in the context of the InterPARES Project, a multinational and multidisciplinary research project that aims at developing the theoretical and methodological knowledge essential to the long-term preservation of authentic records created and/or maintained in digital form. This knowledge should provide the basis from which to formulate model policies, strategies and standards capable of ensuring the longevity of such material and the ability of its users to trust its authenticity. InterPARES has developed in two phases, the first of which was concerned with electronic records created and/or maintained in databases and document management systems, and the second with electronic records existing in experiential, interactive and dynamic digital systems. The paper describes the characteristics, elements, attributes and components of electronic records and, doing so, it shows how the concept of record in the electronic environment is at the same time much more precise that in the traditional one, and in constant evolution. It is a common saying that if a given entity looks like A, smells like A, and behaves like A, it is A. When it comes to records, this saying used to be absolutely true. With digital entities, it is no longer. What the InterPARES research project has found, one case study after another, is that when a digital entity looks like a record, behaves like a record, is treated by the creator like a record, and even smells (yes, there is software capable of conveying that dusty mushy smell) like a record, may or may not be a record. And, conversely, if a digital entity does not look like a record, does not behave like a record, and is not treated like a record, it might very well be a record. But I am getting ahead of myself. I should first introduce briefly the InterPARES Project.

This paper presents the InterPARES project, its goal, objectives and domains of inquiry, its fundamental concepts and assumptions, its methods and general outcomes. It then focuses on one of its products, the conceptual requirements for the authenticity of electronic records, and concludes with a glance at the second phase of the project.

This article discusses the concept of archives as a physical place of custody, its meaning and implications, and the possible consequences of its abandonment, particularly with regard to the authenticity of records over time. While the second part of the article makes specific reference to issues related to electronic records, the arguments presented are applicable to every kind of record, regardless of form. In Australia we need visions in which archival expertise in contextuality and transactionality permeates all aspects of information storage. The archival document will be institutionalised within the fabric of society when its management as an authoritative resource is widely seen as enriching our heritage, and providing us with greater security about the processes of current recordkeeping.1

No presente trabalho, discuto a pertinência dos princípios arquivísticos à realidade dos arquivos musicais brasileiros. Além disso, os tipos de arquivos de música são apresentados, a partir desse ponto de vista. A necessidade de discutir essa questão se deve à convicção de que a teoria deve surgir da observação da realidade, e que essa observação necessita de uma grande amostra ao invés de uma simples tradução de termos entre áreas do conhecimento.

The hospital complex, which consists of 60 pavilions, was opened in 1907 and is internationally considered a jewel of Art Nouveau (the complex was designed by Otto Wagner), especially the church, which can be seen from afar. However, the history of the clinic is marked by the fault lines of the 20th century. Planned and built on the premises of a "reformist" approach to healing, the project was soon affected by the upheavals of two world wars. The data and history of the Nazi "euthanasia" murders have only been studied since the 1990s. Today (2025), the hospital has been relocated, the site ("OWA") belongs to the City of Vienna, and work is underway to find a new public use for it. ......... The approach of this work is topographic and cultural-topological: functions and symbolic axes of a metropolis are outlined. The underlying question, however, is always that of the empty space of history, namely the "suffering human being" (V. Frankl).

Starting from the first decade of the 19th century, a process of transformation of both material and use began for the Criminal Hall. The judicial prison dating back to the 16th century was dismantled and used as the seat of the Genoese archives. Throughout the century, work was carried out to adapt the building to accommodate kilometers of documents
belonging to the Government Archives, the Notarial Archives and finally the Archive of the former Banco di San Giorgio. This essay, based on in-depth archival research, reconstructs the events linked to these transformations which had a profound impact on the building. In fact, if at the beginning of the 19th century it substantially retained the shape it had assumed
at the end of the 16th century, within fifty years, two more floors were built, one due to the lowering of Via Tommaso Reggio by two meters and the other demolishing the roof terrace. In the 20th century the building suffered serious damage to the roofs and the turret following the bombing of Genoa on 9 February 1941 and the reconstruction took little account of the historical pre-existences

From the 1860s, Oxford colleges invited external scholars to catalogue their muniments. By looking at how eight colleges’ archives were arranged and described between 1860 and 1930, and by comparing them with the Dutch Manual and Jenkinson’s Manual , both published in this period, together with some earlier cataloguing work from eighteenth-century Oxford, this paper will show that a preoccupation not only with making the archives accessible but also with making particular records instantly available encouraged the archivists to ignore the provenance of records, breaking up fonds and organizing them according to chronology and subject matter rather than maintaining their original order. The consequence was that they treated the records in their care as discrete items, thus prejudicing content over context. Il principale strumento che rese possibile questa iniqua distribuzione delle risorse furono la distribuzione di vaste estensioni di terreni a tale classe agevolata. Da allora, ricchezza e povertà diverranno una costante nel vivere dell'uomo.

La non equa distribuzione della ricchezza creò un'élite privilegiata che poté  godere di benessere e ricchezza. Fondamentale furono le assegnazioni di terre che questa cerchia gestì nel suo interesse.

relação entre estudos de arquivos e gênero, oferecendo uma análise crítica acerca da lógica androcêntrica
presente na preservação e nas instituições arquivísticas. Assim, a discussão busca contribuir para um debate
ainda incipiente no cenário nacional, propondo caminhos para que pesquisadores e instituições possam
problematizar o apagamento e o silenciamento das trajetórias e memórias femininas.

Il Regolamento particolare per la Comunità di Firenze approvato da Pietro Leopoldo il 20 novembre 1781 che qui pubblichiamo integralmente, oltre a costituire uno dei punti più qualifi canti di quel progetto riformista avviato dal Granduca e dal ristretto gruppo di suoi collaboratori almeno un quindicennio prima, riveste una particolare importanza anche per il suo signifi cato, intrinseco, di atto fondativo della comunità di Firenze. Solo allora, infatti, questa fece la sua comparsa sullo scenario politico toscano come soggetto amministrativo 'autonomo' rispetto ad un centro politico che, del pari, proprio in quel torno di anni, iniziava a proporsi come interlocutore di una pluralità di amministrazioni locali fi no ad allora organizzate secondo un ordine lontano da quello offerto dalle coeve monarchie europee (feudali/cetuali/assolute). As organisations continue to digitise their archives, the question of how digitization processes may be improved through the intervention of AI technologies remains an important one to explore. Beyond this, questions around transparency, accuracy, fairness, privacy, and other ethical concerns when using AI -- like the production of descriptions of digitised collections, such as video footage, audio recordings, photographs and documents-- are equally important to consider. The visual representation of digitization phases and activities and potential AI-supported tasks, as conveyed in our models for AI-assisted digitization, capture a moment in time, when changes in the spectrum of digitization processes are being introduced with the popularisation of AI tools. The forthcoming results of our survey, exploring how organisations are currently using AI during archival digitization processes, will further enrich this picture, and, we hope, contribute to a larger discussion around the impact of AI in the digital representation of, and access to, archives and documentary heritage materials.
