Background: During the past decade a debate has arisen on the possible utility of genomic science for public health purposes. Within this context, a survey is being conducted to assess attitudes of European public health (PH) professionals belonging to EUPHA network regarding their role in the implementation of public health genomics (PHG), and their knowledge and attitudes regarding genetic testing and the delivery of genetic services. Methods: A pilot on-line survey was conducted on professionals from Sapienza University of Rome and the Vrije University of Amsterdam. The survey tool is composed of 5 sections: Personal details, Professional activity, Knowledge on genetic testing and delivery of genetic services, Attitudes on genetic testing and delivery of genetic services, Attitudes on the role of PH professionals in PHG. Because public health is a continually evolving field, it is essential to provide ample training opportunities for public health professionals. As a natural outgrowth of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Prevention Research Centers Program, training courses of many types have been developed for public health practitioners working in the field. This article describes three of the Prevention Research Center training program offerings: Evidence-Based Public Health, Physical Activity and Public Health for Practitioners, and Social Marketing. These courses illustrate the commitment of the Prevention Research Centers Program to helping create a better trained public health workforce, thereby enhancing the likelihood of improving public health

The new journal-Public Health-Open Journal by Openventio, aims to cover a variety of issues pertaining to public health systems around the world, such as risk, epidemics, education plans, monitoring and analyses, health programs, communication, outbreaks and subsequent containment. It will be available not only to scientists and academics, but also to practitioners-health professionals, students and even to patients and other lay people, whoever will be interested in latest knowledge and reliable information on public health.

Malaria is the most common tropical parasitic infection imported into NSW. This article presents a review of all cases of malaria diagnosed and notified in NSW and the Australian Capital Territory from 1989 to the end of 2003. Of the four species of malaria infecting humans, Plasmodium falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale and P. malariae, P. falciparum is most likely to be associated with serious illness and death. Therefore, trends in the occurrence of this species over the period are examined. This information is of value to clinicians and public health professionals in highlighting both the importance of rapid and accurate diagnosis of malaria and the changing trends in the origin of imported cases. This study uses data collected by the NSW Malaria Register.

OBJECTIVE This study aimed to assess public health professionals' use of data, information, and evidence and to understand perceptions and preferences regarding data visualization to inform future design of data visualization tools. DESIGN We conducted qualitative interviews with public health professionals who use data for decision making as part of community health assessment and program planning from state and local health departments across six states. RESULTS We identified four themes: 1) collection of data, information, and evidence; 2) management and analysis of data and information to inform decisions; 3) use of data to support public health practice; and 4) preferences for data visualization and how visualization is being used. Public health professionals use data, information, and evidence from various resources for communicating with co-workers, stakeholders, and the public, and decision making regarding their programs and services. More than one and a half years has elapsed since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), and characterized it as a pandemic. A systematic, monthly analysis of weekly situation reports of COVID-19 released by WHO and relevant news articles/events available in the digital version, since January 2020 to till date was done and the critical review of the pandemic management in the country is provided. The consequences of late reply to the pandemic in the 1st wave include failure of preventing the crowds of migrants in the cities queuing up to get a square meal and returning to homes by harsh journeys for long distances coupled with poverty led deaths rather than deaths due to COVID-19. In the 2nd wave, the system not only failed to face the war waged by the disease but rather, in few instances appeared to be encouraging super spread of COVID-19 through activities such as allowing the pilgrims to take dips in Ganges as a part of Maha Kumbh which lead to overwhelmed cases. The most important and the only valid way forward to win the battle of this pandemic along with sticking to Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB) is to invest more for vaccinations in union budget to get 95% of the citizens vaccinated at the earliest as the further waves are definitely going to target the unvaccinated individuals.

n this special editorial we discuss the ways in which global
public health professionals can support other public health,
medical, laboratory, health education, and emergency management
professionals responding to the coronavirus disease-2019
(COVID-19) pandemic. The World Health Organization (WHO)
assigned a Global WHO Risk Assessment Level of “VeryHigh” to the treatment of COVID-19.1
Globally, the responses of
governments to COVID-19 have been containment and mitigation
where the disease is present. On March 2nd, 2020, there were 88,948
confirmed cases. The number of cases has only increased since
that time, and on March 11th, 2020, WHO declared COVID-19
as pandemic.
