The earned value management is a powerful and important technique in analyzing and controlling the project performance. While it allows exact measurement of project progress, it lets corrective actions in a timely manner. In fact, the earned value allows project managers to find out any project time and cost deviations by calculating the performance indices. In this paper, to improve the applicability of the traditional earned value technique, we develop an integrated approach by combining statistical quality control charts with traditional earned value technique, to monitor and control project time and cost performances. The results applied to a real construction project compete favorly against traditional approaches

This study aims to verify the impact of the use of power bases by project leaders on the motivation and the perceived performance of their teams. Based on behavioral theory, it contributes to the existing gap in the field of behavioral operations management and to the literature focused on social power theory applied to management. The study begins with an introduction, concept explanation, hypothesis presentation, method used, results and discussion. The research was made using questionnaires administered to members of project teams from a multinational automotive company using the constructs Supervisor Power Bases Scale (EBPS) and Motivation and Meaning of Work Inventory (IMST) to measure Perceived Team Performance; a specific scale adaptation was used. Multiple linear regressions were used in the quantitative analysis. The results of this pioneering research in the Brazilian context indicate that the use of legitimate and reward power by leaders is positively associated with team motivation. These results have implications for best practice literature and managerial practice, focusing on increasing team motivation through social power. This study sets the stage for subsequent research on how managerial power can be studied as a factor related to other personal characteristics of team members (such as self-esteem and self-efficacy).

Despite garnering increasing attention, the fifth Industrial revolution (IR 5.0) remains unexplored in Nigeria. This study therefore evaluates IR 5.0 application in the Nigerian construction sector, with a view to strategizing pathways to enhance its application for a sustainable built environment. A qualitative research approach was applied to elicit response from professionals in Nigeria. Percentages and thematic analysis were used to analyze the result. The result shows that a foundational understanding of IR 5.0 exists. However, varied interpretations of the concept impedes its awareness. Key challenges were found to include poor infrastructure, high cost of technology, lack of sufficient training opportunities, and the absence of government policies and incentives. Altogether, this have resulted in a rather limited application of IR 5.0. Hence, the study strategizes that increased awareness, infrastructural and technological development, collaboration, and training programs can play a unique role in enhancing IR 5.0 application in the Nigerian construction sector. The paper's contribution to knowledge lies in providing a holistic insight on the emerging trends of IR 5.0 in Nigeria. Empirical evidence supports a promising foundation for IR 5.0 to build upon in sustainable materials, renewable energy systems and artificial intelligence towards a more sustainable built environment in Nigeria.

Construction is a crucial industry that drives a nation's economic growth, yet it often faces inherent challenges related to productivity and waste generation. Lean Construction (LC) has emerged as a promising approach to address these challenges. However, despite its success in various construction projects, some gaps in the practical adoption of LC hinder its widespread practitioner uptake. Therefore, to close the gap, the objective of this study is threefold: identify waste factors of construction activities, determine suitable lean tools for project performance improvement, and assess the impacts of the implementation of lean tools on project completion time and costs. A toll road project in Indonesia was investigated as the case study. A combined research method was employed by administering a questionnaire survey to pertinent project participants, conducting in-depth interviews, and analyzing relevant documents to achieve these objectives. This study discovered 15 non-value-added (NVA) activities that can be eliminated to enhance overall project performance. Most of these activities can be accommodated using coordination and collaboration, while some require a more comprehensive approach, including standardization, the Five S, crash programs, and overlapping techniques. Implementing lean tools resulted in a 19.17% reduction in project completion time, although it contributed to a 5.33% decrease in organizational profit compared to traditional approaches. The findings of this study hold the potential to benefit those facing similar issues, not only in emerging countries but also in developed economies grappling with similar contexts.

The following aspects of the application of mathematical methods and models in the risk management of IT projects, such as the need to take account of time and money reserves in the event of adverse events, the possibility of periodic risk control and prompt response to them through the constant communication between the project stakeholders, ensuring timely execution of IT, as well as taking into account the characteristic features of different software development methodologies are analyzed and determined. According to the results of the analysis of methodological approaches to software development, it has been established that the combination of the principles of the CCPM and Scrum methodologies makes it possible to form reserves in an explicit form and to establish effective communication between the interested parties of the IT project. In addition, the application of knowledge-based methods and models increases the effectiveness of the information provision of the decision-making process on risk management of the IT project.

In The Netherlands, public works are contracted more and more in integrated ways. In recent literature, it is argued that procurement procedures will influence project performance. Even more, the procurement climate itself is found to influence the project performance by strengthening or altering the relationship between procurement procedure and project performance. In this paper, the relationship between procurement procedures and -climate and project cooperation is defined, project cooperation being an important indicator for project performance. The results of the literature study and the qualitative survey show a clear need for a procurement procedure not merely based on the project itself, but also on collaboration and soft parameters. In-depth case studies are used to analyze abovementioned relationships and find more detailed descriptions. The procurement procedure, procurement climate and project cooperation of three projects were assessed: KOSMOS STAKAN, 2 nd Coen Tunnel, Houten-Castellum alliance. The added value of a collaborative procurement climate is emphasized by the in-depth case study results. Based on those results, suggestions for further research are given.

The construction industry is an essential sector that contributes to the economic growth and development of any nation. To complete the required construction project, the construction industry relies on the performance and accomplishments of numerous players, such as architects and engineers (consultants, contractors, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors). The stakeholders involved in this project required efficient communication and coordination to succeed. Effective communication is essential in any industry, and the construction industry is no exception. A successful construction project depends on effective communication to achieve its goals; it requires excellent cooperation and information sharing among its participants. Due to its nature, effective communication is required to coordinate all parties involved in construction projects such as owners, project managers, engineers, subcontractors, etc. . Communication skills are one of the most significant competencies for project participants; it was identified as the most crucial competency among Palestinian construction project managers . According to empirical evidence from prior studies, poor communication among stakeholders is a crucial factor responsible for poor performance on construction projects. A study found that improved communication between project stakeholders is essential for achieving project performance objectives. In the construction sector, poor communication can be characterized as ineffective, unsuccessful, and inadequate project information communication.

Total quality management (TQM) is a management philosophy widely implemented in the manufacturing and other service industries and has proved to improve the quality in these fields. With its primary focus being the involvement of everyone, TQM has the ability to improve economy of an organization, greater customer satisfaction, worker involvement and better management of workers within the companies. TQM's ability to adapt new ideas, tools and methods suggest that it can be applied in construction industry also. The objective of this paper is to review the latest studies which focused on increasing quality through implementing TQM in construction industry and its suitable applications in the different phases of project construction.

This study investigates the utilisation of machine learning methodologies in the context of earned value management (EVM) data, aiming for the anticipatory prediction and regulation of project outcomes. This research seeks to utilise machine learning frameworks, including regression analysis, decision trees, and neural networks, to forecast upcoming project outcomes, pinpoint possible risks, and improve the decision-making process. The study illustrates how the incorporation of sophisticated algorithms alongside conventional EVM data can yield enhanced, immediate insights into cost and schedule effectiveness. The document further explores the ramifications of this methodology for project leaders, providing a comprehensive structure for enhancing project oversight and regulation via insights derived from data.

This paper describes a method of performance evaluation and remaining life prediction for an aged reinforced concrete (RC) T-girder bridge by J-BMS RC version via close visual inspection data, and also verifies the assessment results obtained as outputs from the Bridge Rating Expert System (RC-BREX) which is a subsystem of the J-BMS, to evaluate the effectiveness of the system. The Bridge Management System (J-BMS) that was previously developed by the authors, and which is capable of forecasting the deterioration process of existing bridge members, was applied to evaluate the safety indices (soundness score) and remaining life of the target bridge based on these test results. Using these methods, the remaining life of an aged RC-T girder bridge (SK-bridge) can be quantitatively estimated by applying the bridge rating expert (BREX) system, which is a subsystem of the J-BMS RC version that incorporates with the field inspection data. In this study, close visual inspection was carried out on the aged bridge by professional visual inspectors, during which all variations of the inspection results were evaluated using a five-step questionnaire. As a result, it was found that the soundness score (safety index) and remaining life predictions were influenced by the learning (supervised) data selection. Additionally, the predicted remaining lives were verified through concrete core tests extracted from main girders and deck slabs.

A practical Bridge Management System has been developed by the author, which is referred to as the Japanese Bridge Management System (J-BMS) for existing concrete bridges. This paper introduces a newly developed bridge management system for the prestressed concrete (PC) bridges (J-BMS PC version) which is integrated with the PC bridge rating expert system (PC-BREX). The proposed system is able to predict the deterioration process of the existing PC bridge superstructure components as well as assess a broad array of optional corrective strategies. The system also has the capability to search and retrieve from a J-BMS database system (J-BMS DB), the necessary information, carry out suitable analyses to arrive at some recommendations that would help users to optimize their decisions based on engineering aspects, cost and economic issues and bridge management policies. A comparison of the results of applying the system to some actual inservice PC bridges with a special designed survey form to experts shows that optimal maintenance planning as well as bridge rating can be predicted accurately by using the system.

Background: Digitalization has profoundly impacted the construction sector, offering tools and technologies that promise increased efficiency, accuracy, and collaboration. Nevertheless, the integration of these digital solutions, notably Building Information Modeling (BIM), can be impeded by a set of fundamental barriers known as enablers of digital poverty. These enablers encompass a range of challenges that quantity surveyors face in Lagos State when attempting to embrace BIM and other digital tools. Objective: The objective of this study is to pinpoint, classify, and assess the factors that enable digital poverty when it comes to implementing BIM within the community of quantity surveyors in Lagos State, Nigeria. By understanding these enablers, stakeholders can develop targeted strategies to alleviate digital poverty and promote digital inclusion in the field of quantity surveying. Methods: A quantitative research method was utilized, employing a questionnaire survey to collect information from quantity surveyors in Lagos State. The questionnaire used in the study was designed to collect demographic data and evaluate the factors contributing to digital poverty. The collected data were analyzed using the mean item score and subjected to exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to uncover hidden groups or patterns among these contributing factors. Results: The EFA exposed five distinct clusters of enablers of digital poverty: Exploration Enablers-Factors related to creating an enabling environment for digital adoption, including limited financial resources, inadequate institutional arrangements, and lack of awareness; Incognizant Enablers-Factors reflecting a lack of knowledge and awareness, such as erratic power supply and insufficient government support; Compliance Enablers-Factors associated with the challenges of complying with new digital practices, including resistance to change from traditional methods and the scarcity of BIM specialists; Infrastructural Enablers-Challenges linked to infrastructure, including high costs of investment and software/hardware upgrades; and Automation Enablers-Factors related to the adoption of automated processes, such as an unsupportive organizational culture, lack of experience and knowledge, and inadequate support from senior management. Conclusion: This research provides a comprehensive understanding of the enablers of digital poverty in BIM implementation among quantity surveyors in Lagos State. It highlights the multifaceted characteristics of these challenges and underscores the importance of addressing them to promote digital inclusion and leverage the advantages of digital technologies within the construction sector. The identified enablers can serve as a foundation for policymakers, organizations, and communities to develop targeted interventions aimed at reducing digital poverty and fostering a digitally inclusive environment for quantity surveyors in Lagos State.

Bridges are important elements of our traffic infrastructure-a system, which was built during the past one hundred years with a major increase between the 1960s and 1980s. Hence, an important number of bridges has now reached an age of forty or more years and thorough inspections and assessments are required. In the years of intense construction activities, the expected quality was not always reached and durability aspects were not in the focus of planners and builders. These facts led to a disproportionate number of defects and damages, quite often to a serious extent. This is relevant beyond a pure technical meaning since the costs for maintenance and repair often exceed the respective budget. Grischa Dette treats the topic of bridge maintenance in a comprehensive approach. He presents a method for a specific and stepwise maintenance planning and by this offers a promising instrument for the support of strategy selections and decision making processes. By taking up ideas from international literature, Mr. Dette develops an independent evaluation framework, which profoundly extends the common economic perspective. In the main part of the thesis, a newly developed Matlab based computer program SAMS (Simulation-based Assessment of Maintenance Strategies) is introduced. For the evaluation of maintenance strategies, Mr. Dette defines so called performance indicators, which comprise the categories structural safety, condition, economy, society & culture, and environment. This procedure is experimentally applied on two case study bridges. The holistic approach of this thesis is remarkable since it captures bridges not only as technical structures, but also accounts for the many other roles they play in everyday life. With the broad applicability of the approach and its comprehensible presentation the publication at hand will be of interest for a wide readership.

From an ideal point of view, bridges should be designed, constructed and operated in such a way that they fulfil requirements from the fields of function, economy, environment, society, and culture. The present thesis wants to contribute to this matter by illuminating the manifold requirements and by developing a practicable approach to multi-objective maintenance planning for bridges. Starting with a literature review and a survey on practical maintenance planning by bridge owning agencies in Hamburg (Germany) and Chennai (India), the investigation reveals that until today practical approaches for the identification of bridge specific requirements as well as for strategy assessment and evaluation are not at hand. Purpose - The ever-increasing pollution, poverty and poor economy, caused in part by human activities, have necessitated the need for sustainable development (SD) and sustainable construction (SC). This requires reconsidering sustainable development goals (SDGs) as a complementary approach to achieving a sustainably built environment. This paper aims to explore how stakeholder's engagement can drive the attainment of SDGs in the Nigerian construction industry (NCI), with a view to advancing a sustainable construction industry (SCI) in Nigeria. The study also examines the inhibitors of attaining SDGs in the light of 10 core SDGs that play a sustainable role in the NCI. Design/methodology/approach - The study adopted a qualitative research approach. Data were collected from 22 stakeholders (practitioners and policy makers) in the NCI through interviews which were transcribed, coded and analysed thematically. Findings - The results deduced that industry-related, government-related and economic, environmental and socio-cultural-related themes inhibit SDGs in the NCI, while SDGs-driven policy implementation, best practices and educating/training themes can be used to attain SDGs in Nigeria. Valuable insights from the findings recommended stakeholders' engagement in eliminating the influx of quacks, repositioning attitudinal change in governance, streamlining funds for SD, implementing and complying to building regulations, providing professional practice and training stakeholders about the benefits of sustainability in Nigeria. Originality/value - Emerging inhibitors of SDGs are identified, leading to the development of innovative approaches and actions for stakeholders' engagement, which were missing from previous studies. Stakeholders and the government can use the strategic phases proposed in this paper to advance a SCI in Nigeria.

In the sense that organizational sociologists regard the science of project management as only as good as the art and the artful dodger must avoid the saboteur, as one enters the maze of the drama of managing a project, it must be with eyes wide open. All of the effort a professional or Project Management Professional, commonly known as a “PMP” (Heldman, 2009), places upon the details of initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, and controlling (Project Management Institute, 2008) the perfect project is for naught if a single resource can place all of the time, money, and effort in jeopardy through a single subversive action. Recognition of the problem is almost as innate as the games of a child who seeks attention to his/her actual needs (Cialdini, 2009). As such, project managers often get caught in the mode of reacting to the “games played in the box” (The Arbinger Institute, 2002)

The goal of this discussion is not to determine if using a project management methodology or earned value management (EVM) incorrectly will result in frustration and failure. It is a given that an underlying premise of the research is that the failure to apply the science properly will result in the improper use of the science. It is not our goal to discuss poor results from poor practices. Instead, we intend to look at the ironic converse in which the project plan results are influenced, regardless of the plan's quality, by people with good and bad intentions.

The failure probability of structures are rather small and therefore calculation of structural reliability generally has a high computational cost. In order to reduce computational costs, this articles proposes a hybrid approach based on combination of the least squares support vector regression and two advanced Monte Carlo methods: importance sampling and Latin hypercube sampling. Two frames and one truss example are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. Results demonstrate that proposed method provides an accurate estimation of failure probability and that the computational costs are lower than those of other methods.

Concerns over the slow pace and work progress among construction
companies are pervasive. Nonetheless, technology has the potential to bridge
this inefficiency gap. Thus, this study assesses the degree of adoption of
innovative technologies during the building production phase with a view to
enhancing project delivery. The study's objectives are to evaluate the socioeconomic benefits of adopting innovative technologies, establish the degree
of satisfaction with the organization’s deployment of innovative technologies,
and determine the level of technology adoption at the construction stage. The
study adopts a survey research strategy to collect data from the respondents
in Lagos Metropolis. The population of the study comprises built environment
professionals who work in construction micro-small-medium-enterprises
(CMSMEs). Criterion based; deliberate, purposive sampling research strategy
was deployed to select 109 respondents from the study’s population. The
statistical tools used for the analysis include frequency, percentages, mean
scores, relative implementation index, and ranking. The findings
demonstrated that mobile technologies are the most often utilized among the
twelve groups of technologies deployed during construction. In contrast,
wearable technologies are the least deployed. The study concludes that the
current level of technology adoption is low and varies among the CMSMEs.
The divergence in technology adoption indicates that CMSMEs in Lagos
Metropolis are yet to fully harness innovative technologies to boost
construction operations during the building production phase. The study
recommends that CMSMEs leverage innovative technologies to enhance the
construction phase. This may be accomplished by creating a budget for its
uptake and deployment during the building production phase in a bid to
unlock its full potential and benefits. Besides, manufacturers of underutilized
technologies should amplify product awareness among building firms in
Lagos Metropolis. This may be accomplished by organizing training and
demonstration programs for construction industry stakeholders on the benefits
of deploying the technologies.

The COST Action TU 1406, Quality Control Specifications for Roadway Bridges -Standardization at a European Level (BridgeSpec) brings together experts from across Europe, to provide guidelines for setting up the Quality Control Plans by defining key performance indicators and corresponding performance goals with the purpose to ensure adequate service quality to road users at minimum costs. This Action started in June 2015. Management of road bridges comprises coordinated activities in order to generate the maximum value to the society, which involves the balance of costs, risks, opportunities and performance goals. Whether a performance goal is achieved or not, is given by the corresponding key performance indicators, which in turned can be evaluated from various underlying performance indicators. This requires a clear insight into the influence of the performance indicators to key performance indicators. Performance indicator may be a quantitative, measured parameter or a qualitative abstraction related to e. g. the condition of a bridge or its components. It can be therefore expressed either in the form of a dimensional parameter or as an ordinal index. The former quantitatively describes a specific property of the bridge (e.g. crack width), whereas the latter represent a combination of observations on and/or expert knowledge related to a particular bridge and/or its components (e.g. importance of a bridge component in the whole bridge structure). In order to determine whether the performance goals are met, thresholds or criteria must be set. A threshold constitutes a limiting criterion for purposes such as: (i) monitoring (e.g. exceeding threshold triggers different monitoring program), (ii) assessing (e.g. exceeding threshold triggers in-depth investigation), and (iii) maintenance (e.g. exceeding threshold triggers maintenance actions). A criterion can be also formulated as extremizing criterion: For instance, the criterion is met at the maximum reliability level for a given budgetary constraint. For purpose of defining the crisp key performance indicators, the identified performance indicators are categorized into technical, sustainable and socio-economic indicators. Furthermore, the performance indicators are coupled to component, system and network. This enables to more easily identify methods for their quantification and to determine their impact on a specific performance goal. This contribution provides an overview of a current effort to identify performance indicators, to define key performance indicators, to set-up corresponding performance goals and to provide a framework for the Quality Control Plan.

By examining aspects such as cost management, scheduling, and resource allocation, the research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how these software solutions can enhance project outcomes. Data was collected through a mixed-methods approach, including secondary data and case studies involving construction firms and project managers. The findings reveal that the implementation of advanced project management software significantly improves cost efficiency, optimizes scheduling processes, and enhances resource allocation. These improvements contribute to overall project success, reducing delays and cost overruns. The study concludes with recommendations for construction firms to adopt and integrate advanced software solutions to maximize project performance and efficiency.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on
indigenous contractors in a developing economy with a view to enhancing their performance.
Design/methodology/approach – The study used a purposive sampling technique to select 37
indigenous contractors with ongoing construction contracts in Osun State, Nigeria who provided data for the
study. A structured interview protocol was used to elicit the required information from the interviewees and
frequency, percentage and content analysis were used for data analysis.
Findings – The results showed that the critical impact of COVID-19 on indigenous contractors in a
developing economy is: time overrun, loss of profit and creation of dispute. Further results showed
that other impacts are a disruption in supply of labour, locally sourced materials are with additional
cost, the additional cost of implementing COVID-19 protocols, difficulty in sourcing imported
materials and absence of new jobs with the corresponding retrenchment of workers.
Practical implications – The study recommended special palliatives for the indigenous contractors
from the government so as to cushion the impact of the pandemic on them, thereby enhance their
survival and performance. A special arbitration panel is set up in each state of the federation to look at
disputes arising from the aftermath of the pandemic, this is with a view to adequately compensate
indigenous contractors with genuine and properly compiled claims. inferring from the findings of the
study, it suffices to say that the severity of the impact of the pandemic is very high on indigenous
contractors in developing economies, as such a better preparedness strategy could lessen the impact of
such pandemic in the future.
Originality/value – The study is an attempt to unearth the impact of COVID-19 on indigenous contractors
with ongoing construction contracts in a developing economy. The study will be of value to construction
stakeholders in providing the information needed to devise strategies to minimise the impact of a pandemic
on indigenous contractors in future projects thereby enhance their performance.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of team members’ composition on cost and
time of completion of construction projects in selected higher institutions with a view to improving
construction project delivery in Nigeria.
Design/methodology/approach – The study used the purposive sampling technique to select two higher
institutions out of six in the study area, and census survey was used in selecting 35 completed construction
projects executed by the institutions within the time frame 2000 to 2013. A total of 191 questionnaires were
distributed to obtain information from construction team members (quantity surveyors, architects, structural/
civil engineers, services engineers, contractors and clients) who participated in the selected construction projects.
Mean item score and Kendall’s test were used in examining team members’ composition, while the relationship
between team members’ composition and construction cost and time was tested using t-test and eta-squared.
Findings – The results revealed that construction team members’ composition has a significant impact on
the completion time of construction projects, though with small magnitude, while the impact of construction
team members’ composition on construction cost is not significant. Also, it was revealed that some team
members did not play any team role due to the fact that the main criterion for team members’ composition
was knowledge, skill and abilities (KSA).
Practical implications – The study finally recommended that a deliberate effort should be made in
studying and ascertaining the team role every construction team member will play before appointing them to
be member of a team, as improper team members’ composition could hamper effective construction project
delivery in terms of completion time.
Originality/value – The study is an attempt to discourage the traditional construction team members’
selection system which was based on KSAs, which is deficient under team environment.

Project monitoring entails keeping tabs on a project’s development performance, and activities throughout its entire lifecycle
by assuring a high level on course and accomplishing its objectives within the characteristics of the predefined scope, timeline,
and budget. The issue of delays within the construction sector is considered a major global phenomenon and the construction
of housing projects at Mombasa County are no exception. The study adopted descriptive research design with a target
population of 220 housing projects. Simple random sampling was used to select sample size of 142 housing projects. Primary
data was used in this study. The study’s primary data was obtained using structured questionnaires. The study found that
monitoring reporting had a positive and significant influence on the completion of residential housing projects. The study
recommends that communication plans need to be adopted as they are integral to project planning and project management
both in theory and practice. Project milestones tracking should also be adopted to ensure that all project processes are executed
in an efficient manner to ensure full coverage of the entire project scope. The suggested further research to be done using
longitudinal research design as data is collected over a period and application in series becomes easier.

Enterprise risk management as a key element of the internal control system has become important over the years. The changes in the conditions of companies, especially banks, have increased the scope and complexity of their risk, and this has led to an increase in the demand for using enterprise risk management as an enterprise risk management framework. As the most important financial institution in the money market, the bank faces various risks. The implementation of this system in the bank makes the process of identifying, evaluating and monitoring risks with a comprehensive approach. The purpose of this study is to develop a comprehensive risk management implementation framework in the banking industry. Despite the growing importance of enterprise risk management, its implementation in Iran has received little attention and is facing challenges, and no study has been conducted to investigate its implementation conditions, effective factors, necessary foundations, and existing obstacles. Therefore, the current research has developed a framework for implementing enterprise risk management in the banking industry by using qualitative approach and systematic review and multiple case study methods by examining two banks. The statistical population of this research includes the board of directors, senior managers, members of specialized committees and experienced experts. The results of the research show that the extracted framework of enterprise risk management is not fully implemented in Iranian banks, and the challenges of its implementation include the lack of information technology infrastructure, the lack of sufficient knowledge and government restrictions. The current research can be considered as a suitable model for the banking industry.

The purpose of this study is to find numerous key performance indicators for measuring real estate project success. A Systematic literature review was adopted to achieve the research objective. The main objective of a systematic literature review is to identify, evaluate, and synthesize existing research. A total number of "82" papers from ABDC journals and other journals and conference papers, including thesis, book chapters, were used to identify all the success factors. The study reveals that most of the previous studies have considered threefactor cost, quality, and time, but a few factors have taken other success factors such as budget, schedule, client satisfaction, project manager competence. So there is a dire need to explore additional determinants as the real estate project success is influenced by several other variables. After the systematic literature review there are many other performance indicators such as customer satisfaction, budget, manager qualification and schedule are becoming important for good performance of construction project. The findings of the study have numerous suggestions and these implications are not only for the educational area but also for the construction sector. The study provides a direction for construction organizations and the researcher's future studies.

The present research investigates the crucial correlation between stakeholder engagement (SE) and project performance (PP) in the Pakistan IT sector, specifically considering the prevailing political instability in the nation. This study, utilizing stakeholder theory, investigates the direct impact of stakeholder engagement on project performance and explores the mediating roles of project communication (PC) and innovation (IN) in this connection. The research validates that stakeholder engagement greatly improves project performance, with actual data demonstrating that stakeholder engagement and innovation play crucial roles in converting stakeholder contributions into better project results. The results highlight the need to prioritize stakeholder engagement, project communication, and innovation, particularly in unpredictable settings like Pakistan's, in order to achieve successful project performance. This academic study employed a quantitative approach and a cross-sectional survey, involving 205 active practitioners in the IT industry. The SPSS software, version 27, significantly improved the analytical process by facilitating the development of thorough path analysis. To mitigate the possible distortions caused by common method bias, the research used a time-lagged data collection approach. The results demonstrate positive and significant correlations among the constructs.

Many organizations are projectizing their operations these days, particularly nonconstruction enterprises. There is, of course, a range of levels of Project Management (PM) sophistication and tools that can be adapted by such enterprises. This study, sponsored by the Project Management Institute (PMI), examines current PM levels and practices in various companies and industries, and proposes a five level model of PM sophistication. This paper summarizes proposed PM process maturity analysis methodology which can be used to evaluate financial and organizational impacts of PM to organizations. Also, a benchmarking system is developed and presented to quantitatively measure an organization's level of PM sophistication. This research is currently in progress. This benchmarking methodology and the resulting quantitative data will aid managers in making wiser PM investment decisions. Future research will continue to report quantitative results and findings by applying this research methodology.

Project scheduling practices are fundamental to the successful execution and completion of projects, particularly in the dynamic and demanding environment of road construction under the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) in Mombasa County, Kenya. This study aimed to bridge the gap by evaluating how project scheduling practices influence the performance of road projects managed by KeNHA in Mombasa County. The research is underpinned by theories including Resource Dependency Theory, the Theory of Triple Constraints, Contingency Theory, and the Resource-Based View Theory, and employed a descriptive research design for data collection. The pilot test, conducted with a calculated sample of 13 participants rounded from 12.4 to achieve a robust sample indicated a high level of reliability and validity for the questionnaire, with an overall Cronbach's Alpha of 0.805. The preliminary findings from the pilot test affirmed the instrument's readiness for the broader study. With a target population of 180 specialists across six key projects, the study deployed questionnaires to a sample size of 124, determined using Slovin's formula, to collect both quantitative and qualitative data. Descriptive analysis was done to include measures of central tendencies and dispersion and inferential statistics including correlation and regression were used to determine associations and effects. Analytical tools including frequency distribution, percentages, tables, charts, and graphs were utilized to present the data, ensuring clarity and comprehensiveness in the analysis. The aggregate mean scores across all variables indicated a moderate but consistent recognition of their importance in enhancing project outcomes. The regression analysis supported these findings, in showing a significant positive effect on project performance. The study's findings underscored the significance of effective scheduling practices, aimed at improving project outcomes within the realm of national highway projects in Kenya. This study concluded that the study variables were a critical determinant of project performance, enhanced decision making and maintaining a balanced approach to resource management to prevent delays, cost overruns, and quality issues, thereby ensuring the timely and efficient completion of projects. This study recommends the project managers at KeNHA to utilize the study findings to enhance their decisionmaking processes, particularly in the areas of Analytical Modeling and Schedule Compression. It also recommends that KeNHA strengthens its monitoring and evaluation processes to ensure that Resource Optimization and Risk Management strategies are effectively implemented. Further, more research should be done into emerging analytical tools and techniques that can be applied to project management in infrastructure projects and more in-depth studies on the risks associated with Schedule Compression, particularly in the context of large-scale infrastructure projects. The study identified several areas where further research could provide additional insights.

The paper provides a detailed collated review of various leadership styles based on prominent leadership theories that are practiced worldwide at present alongside a pragmatic analysis of the feasibility of the said leadership styles for construction projects. The paper has been structured in a manner that includes a brief introduction to the topic, definition of leadership, theories and styles, importance of the analysis of leadership styles followed by the discussion section that provides a comprehensive review of the characteristics, advantages, disadvantages, examples, best fit situations and the feasibility of each selected leadership style. Finally, the paper is concluded with recommendations that could be applied across the board to improve leadership within construction projects. افزایش جمعیت، رشد و توسعه صنایع به منظور رفع نیازهای روزافزون جوامع بشری و تأمین منافع اقتصادی سازمان‌های مختلف برای احراز موجودیت در بازار رقابتی پیچیده امروزی پیامدهای ناگواری را به‎دنبال داشته است. این پیامدها با شتابی نگران‌کننده زوال حیات و سلامت انسان‌ها و حتی موجودات دیگر را ممکن می‌سازد و می‌تواند چرخه طبیعت را برهم زند و پتانسیل‌های طبیعی موجود در رفع نیاز نسل‌های آینده را به‎خطر اندازد. شرکت‌های آب و فاضلاب به‎عنوان مبنای حیات یک جامعه نقش بی‌بدیلی در تأمین و تقسیم این منشأ حیاتی به‎عهده دارند. بنابراین عدم مدیریت مناسب در نگهداری و تعمیرات تجهیزات و دارایی‌های فیزیکی در این صنعت منجر به هدررفت آب و انرژی و زیان‌های جبران‌ناپذیری در محیط‎زیست خواهد شد. بنابراین، با توجه به این‌‎که نگهداری و تعمیرات در کنترل و ارتباط مسالمت‌آمیز میان صنعت و محیط‎زیست نقشی انکارناپذیر ایفا می‌کند، این پژوهش پایش و بررسی عملکرد این تجهیزات را بررسی می‌کند. از این‎رو با پالایش و جمع‌آوری اطلاعات از پژوهش‌های صورت‌گرفته در حوزه‌های نگهداری و تعمیرات با توجه به رکن محیط‎زیستی آن، درخت تصمیمی طراحی و با استفاده از روش سلسله مراتبی فازی که از روش‌های تحلیل مبتنی بر نظر کارشناسان است،  استراتژی‌های نگهداری و تعمیرات پایدار رتبه‌بندی شد. ماحصل این قضاوت‌ها با بیشترین ضریب وزنی (271/0) بیانگر تأثیر نگهداری و تعمیرات کنش‌گرایانه بر دستیابی به هدف سبز در کنار انجام وظایف خدماتی شرکت آب و فاضلاب است.

This research is motivated by levels of project failure and the purpose of the research is to investigate improved project performance. The scientific spectrum is considered; arguing project management as a sub-field of management science based in 'design science'. Despite research since the 1950s, there is no established community paradigm for project management, illustrated by multiple 'schools of thought' failing to stimulate performance improvement. Rework has become a menace in the construction industry as it leads to undesired and unnecessary loss of efforts. It degrades project cost, quality and schedule performance, and it occurs at both the design and construction phases of construction projects. This study therefore examined the perception of construction professionals on the impact of rework on the performance of both the project and the performing organisation. This was achieved by determining the most important effect of rework on project and organisational performance, and identifying variables in which the professionals view varies significantly. The study adopted a quantitative survey approach in which structured questionnaire was adopted as the research instrument. Mean item score was used in ranking the professionals perception of the effect of rework, and Kruskal-Wallis H test was used to identify the variables in which the professionals view varies. The study revealed that: rework has a very high impact of (MIS = 4.00) on project performance which results in projects over shooting their planned budget and planned duration, and degradation of project quality. Rework has a very high effect of (MIS = 4.04) on organisational performance leading to loss of profit/reduced profit, de-motivation of workers, and loss of future work/business. Disputes between contracted parties, design team dissatisfaction, de-motivation of workers and Fatigue are the factors in which the professionals' view varied significantly. It was recommended that there is the need for the training of construction stakeholders on construction rework and other variables that cause projects to over shoot their budget, time and other resource.

Construction experts have noted the persistent concern about the quality of tender documents and its impact on the construction sector. Poor specification writing continues to be a weak link in the information chain that degrades the quality of tender documents and causes disputes,
particularly in a competitive market where construction professionals strictly interpret the documents to prepare a competitive bid. The impact of tender document quality on the accuracy of project estimates is assessed to determine the determinants of good tender-quality documents. Additionally, interventions that can be implemented to improve tender document quality and the implications of poor tender document quality were also analyzed. Qualitative data was collected from construction professionals using an interview. Data was analyzed by Atlas-ti using thematic analysis where six key themes were extracted. The study concluded that poorquality tender documents compromise the accuracy of project estimates and delivery of projects within the South African construction industry. The consequences of poor tender document
quality included reduced project profitability, incomplete projects, project termination due to funding issues, misunderstanding of boundaries, misalignment of the programme, increased costs and a negative impact on construction estimates.
