Towards Documentary Choreography-Encounter #2" is the second in a series of symposiums linked to the doctoral research of choreographer Arkadi Zaides. This event brings together scholars, activists, artists, dance and performance practitioners to explore the multifaceted meanings of "documentary choreography" and to assess its potential engagement with sociopolitical issues as well as medium-specific concerns. This edition places the act of attending to bodies at its core, emphasizing the body as a critical site of knowledge, memory, and agency. As such, the symposium invites participants to consider how physical gestures, movements, and embodied acts act as repositories of lived experience, capable of reflecting on and responding to sociopolitical realities.

Editors Alana Gerecke and Laura Levin frame the central concerns and interventions of the issue. They insist that in this historical moment of Women’s Marches, Black Lives Matter, Occupy, and the Idle No More ‘round dance revolution,’ of flash mobs and pop-up culture, of relational art and postdramatic performance practices, we must think seriously about what is at stake in gathering and moving together in public spaces. Increasingly mainstream and increasingly evident, these collective reimaginings of quotidian practices, cultural consumption, and political resistance challenge the atomized ways we normally move through cities. In doing so, they pose questions of aesthetics, use, access, exclusion, density, and mobility “in resolutely physical terms” (Gerecke 42). The nexus between artificial intelligence (AI) and human creativity offers a fascinating paradigm shift in the dynamic field of music composition. To understand the effects on musical composition, production, and performance, this research study, "Harmony in Synthesis: Exploring Human-AI Collaboration in Music," explores the dynamic interplay between human artists and AI systems.The opening establishes the scene by describing the development of AI in the music business and emphasizing the revolutionary possibilities of teamwork. This study addresses current knowledge through a thorough literature assessment, pointing out gaps that our research aims to remedy and adding to the conversation on AI's involvement in creative processes.

Grotowskiego były postrzegane w bardzo różny sposób. Kardynał Wyszyński uważał je, a przynajmniej Apocalypsis cum figuris, za obrzydliwość 2 , Jacek Woźniakowski tę samą sztukę nazywał "czarną mszą dla ubogich" 3 i zlepkiem bluźnierstw. Obok tych niepochlebnych opinii pojawiały się i inne. Helmut Kajzar twierdził, że "Grotowski zmusza do postawy wierzącego" 4 , Jan Błoński natomiast pisał: "Nie bluźniłbyś, gdybyś nie wierzył…" 5. Sam twórca Apocalypsis, mówiąc o swoich spektaklach, niejako godził obie postawy, stosując najczęściej sformułowanie zapożyczone z jednej z recenzji teatralnych-"dialektyka ośmieszenia i apoteozy" 6. Mimo że wielu może uważać twórczość Grotowskiego za gorszącą i obrazoburczą, nie można zaprzeczyć temu, że przesycona jest ona elementami tradycji chrześcijańskiej, biblijnej czy liturgicznej, które oscylują "od gwałtu do uwielbienia i adoracji" 7 .

Recent choreographic works using artificial intelligence (AI) have focused on the motions designed by AI based on vast amounts of data about human bodily movements. However, complications arise when the emphasis shifts to the technological determinism that manifests in creative processes mutually produced by AI and choreographers or dancers because the value system of AI engineers diverges from that of the choreographers or dancers who use AI. Emphasising the creative process may clash with the aspirations AI engineers have for the new technology.

With these concerns in mind, this essay aims to clarify the creative process shared by the AI engineers and the choreographers, dancers and techno-performances who use the technology. This study illuminates the development of “Beethoven Complex” (2020), an AI Beethoven program featuring a choreographic performance that utilises an AI-driven automatic music composition system.

Recently, the word ’democracy’ has been featured prominently in the press, with calls to restore it, save it from ominous threats and expose challenges to its principles, all predicated on an assumed understanding of the concept. Many of the roots of today’s democracies reach back to the 18th century revolutions in the pre-U.S. American colonies and France, which continue to reinforce Euro-American values and ideologies of nation. The transfer of power remains a defining principle, shifting control from elites to the masses. How do the principles that inspired democratic revolutions relate to the ballot-box versions of democracy today? This article considers contemporary complexities of democracy as a concept, offering examples of how it is embodied through iconography, gestures of defiance and civil disobedience. Democratic values are explored in more formal choreography and in creative processes that establish associations with political agency.

W sprawie partytury teatralnej podejmuje zagadnienia metodologicznych i technicznych problemów związanych z rekonstruowaniem dzieła teatralnego na podstawie zachowanej dokumentacji i innych materiałów archiwalnych, a także z opracowywaniem tzw. partytury udokumentowanej i krytycznej. W tym celu konfrontuje założenia schillerowskiej teatrologii (Zbigniew Raszewski, Jerzy Timoszewicz) i bedierowskiej tekstologii (Konrad Górski, Zbigniew Goliński) z rozwiązaniami postulowanymi przez performatykę (Tomasz Kubikowski, Diana Poskuta-Włodek) i współczesne edytorstwo naukowe (Maria Prussak, Krzysztof Mrowcewicz). Tekst stanowi fragment teoretycznego suplementu pracy doktorskiej Mateusza Żurawskiego Edycja krytyczna scenariuszy autorskich Jerzego Grzegorzewskiego, przygotowanej pod kierunkiem dr. hab. Tomasza Kubikowskiego i dr. hab. Krzysztofa Mrowcewicza w Instytytucie Badań Literackich PAN (2017).

Od teatru do telewizji i internetu. Rzecz o Teatrze Telewizji Teatr telewizji funkcjonował w wielu krajach na całym świecie, a nie tylko, jak można by sądzić na podstawie obiegowych opinii, w Polsce. Wiesław Godzic przytaczał słowa Jerzego Uszyńskiego, który "(…) twierdzi, że teatr telewizji to »polska spécialité de la maison«, gatunek telewizyjny »niespotykany, w innych krajach, ani prawdę mówiąc, w innych telewizjach poza TVP«. Nie jest to prawda. Na początku historii telewizji w wielu krajach realizowano spektakle teatralne, taki był naturalny rozwój form programowych" (Godzic 2005, 197). Lecz to właśnie w naszym kraju program ten zajął wyjątkową pozycję w kulturze, wypracował własną poetykę i środki wyrazu. Jako jedyny też przetrwał do dziś. W 2002 roku Jan Englert mówił:

es éléments sur le corps comme des métaphores... l’œuvre Le jardin.
L’œuvre Le jardin est une performance (une œuvre en évolution) pour un homme, trois femmes, et un chœur de trois femmes. Les éléments utilisés dans la performance sont le soufre, le mercure, la salive, les sculptures en silicone et le verre soufflé. Une colonie de mouches qui porte le gène Antennapedia a été placée dans l’une des sculptures en verre. Une limite triangulaire de soufre inscrite à l’intérieur d’un cercle d’un diamètre d’environ sept mètres est dessinée au sol. Les trois femmes sont placées aux angles du triangle tandis que l’homme se trouve au centre. L’homme est l’acteur central et représente le Dionysos hermaphrodite et bourgeonnant. Il a l’apparence d’un hybride zoomorphique de couleur azur et utilise des électrodes invisibles pour activer par le mouvement un mécanisme d’électrovalves, lequel introduit le mercure dans la sculpture en verre placée sur le corps de la femme (premier acte). La sculpture en verre est en forme d’organes internes et est le point où les deux éléments - le mercure et le sel, par la salive que la femme écoule dans le récipient - se mixent. La mixture se répand sur le sol et se ‘neutralise’ dans le soufre. L’action des deux autres femmes continue avec l’ensevelissement de sculptures organiques en silicone dans le sol en référence aux Thesmophories et à la fertilité de la terre (deuxième acte). La performance se termine avec l’ordination (myisi en grec) de la troisième femme prosternée entre les deux autres qui forment avec de la silicone liquide brute une fourche, une prothèse organique, sur son
front (troisième acte). Cet acte fonctionne comme inversion du démembrement que réalisaient les ménades archaïques, puisqu’ici elles ajoutent une prothèse corporelle en étendant les limites du corps. Par ailleurs, entre chacun des trois actes, le mouvement de la baguette de Dionysos actionne un fond musical produit de manière interactive et en temps réel sur ordinateur. L’ADN de la mouche est la base de la production
du fond sonore. Cette musique représente le bruit de la nature. Un algorithme génétique restructure par ordinateur le code génétique de la mouche (gène Antennapedia) en son. Pendant la performance, les différentes régions de l’espace sont unifiées qualitativement;
par exemple, la trace thermique des corps des acteurs est restructurée en musique et la mixture des éléments (mercure, soufre, sel) constitue une transformation de la matière sur le corps féminin.

This article covers the work of Hungarian director Árpád Schilling in the perspective of his direct political activities against Viktor Orbán’s manipulations of democracy. The author situates the theatrical activities of this director as a vehicle for understanding contemporary populism. Using the political and sociological categories (like “stubborn structures” or “deep history”), he describes how Schilling generates the vision of politically engaged theatre based on very simple gestures and texts with “deep histories” and how his activities try to transcend the division between “artistic” and “political”.

Dorota Sosnowska opisuje, jak podjęta w „Spektaklu dla turystów” Wojtka Ziemilskiego wycieczka w taniec nowoczesny przekształca się w podróż po Polsce i jej współczesności. Według autorki ruch i ciało stają się katalizatorem licznych, niekiedy niemożliwych do rozstrzygnięcia, pytań. Sosnowska przywołuje koncepcję politycznej formacji prowadzenia podążania André Lepeckiego, aby wskazać dynamikę zmiany ról i pozycji, zasad postrzegania oraz pasywności i zaangażowania, w przestrzeni tańca rozumianego jako projekt polityczny.

At the beginning of 1965 Jerzy Grotowski and The Theatre of 13 Rows were forced to transfer their headquarters from Wrocław to Opole. One of the most difficult periods in the history of the company coincided with the resounding success of The Constant Prince, based on Julius Slowacki’s translation of Calderon’s play. In under two years this production brought him fame and a reputation as one of the most important artists of the contemporary theatre. Until the introduction of martial law in Poland in December 1981 and the exile of Grotowski first to the United States, then to Italy, Wrocław became a witness to the most important artistic works of Grotowski and the profound changes in his artistic practice: from the theatre, through the paratheatre, to his activities in the Theatre of Sources.

Punktem wyjścia dla mojego wystąpienia będzie zainicjowana przez Konstantego Puzynę w latach 70. rubryka „Próby zapisu” w czasopiśmie „Dialog”. Jej celem było uporanie się z rzeczywistością teatralną, w której spektakl nie był już sceniczną realizacją dramatu. Miejsce tekstu – literatury – w stosunku do teatru uległo radykalnemu przemieszczeniu. Czym są próby zapisu? W moim przekonaniu są nie tyle dokumentami przezroczystymi wobec właściwego dzieła, które starają się uchwycić, co elementem samego medium teatru, ujawniającym kluczowe dla teatralności napięcie między performansem a tekstem. Chciałabym więc zaproponować perspektywę intermedialną i odczytać zapisy jako gatunek graniczny i jednocześnie podważający granicę; jako teksty, które naruszają wydarzeniowość teatru i jako performanse, które zaprzeczają stabilności tekstu. Chciałabym także postawić pytanie o zapis wideo, który został przez twórców rubryki w „Dialogu” uznany za zapis (tekst) idealny. Stanowi on także poważne pole badań w ramach performance studies. Wykorzystując rozpoznania Amelii Jones, Philippa Auslandera i Rebeki Schneider chciałabym zobaczyć w utrwaleniu teatru ulotność a w ulotności teatru – archiwum i na tym paradoksie zbudować nową definicję  relacji między teatrem a tekstem.

The starting point of my speech will be the column titled  "Attempt to Record" in the magazine “Dialogue" initiated by Konstanty Puzyna in the 70s. Its aim was to deal with the reality of the theatre, which was no longer just the staging of the drama. The place of the text - literature - in relation to the theatre has been radically changed. What are those "Attempt to Record"? In my opinion, they are not transparent documents of the works that they try to capture, but a part of the theatre medium, revealing the tension between performance and text which is the key to the theatricality itself. So I would like to offer the intermedia perspective and read the records as a boundary species that at the same time undermines the border; as texts that violate liveness of the theatre and the performances that contradict the stability of the text. I would also like to put a question about the video recording, which was by the creators of the column in the "Dialogue" considered ideal record (text). It is also a major field of research in the context of performance studies. Using the diagnosis of Amelia Jones, Philip Auslander and Rebecca Schneider I would like to see the elusiveness in the saving of theatre performance and in the elusiveness of the theatre - archive and use this paradox to build a new definition of the relation between the theatre and the text.
