I N A RECENT ESSAY CONCERNING THE DEARTH OF TRINITARIAN INFLUENCE ON THE theology of creation, Colin Gunton argues that the only way of adequately articulating the relation of Creator and creation is to speak about Trinity and creation. Since in the west the doctrine of creation has generally been formulated without the notion of personal relation on which the doctrine of the Trinity rests, the relation between God and cosmos has inevitably been misconstrued in one of two forms, both of which have unacceptable consequences. The first form, under Aristotelian influence, has God and world related as cause is to effect. In this way of thinking, the world's dependence on God is upheld, but this obvious truth is secured by the sacrifice of creaturely autonomy. In fact, this "God as cause" model, when pushed to its logical limit, results in pantheism. The second way of 254

Juozas Žilevičius was a Lithuanian organist, choir conductor, composer, musicologist, educator, author of the first Lithuanian symphony and nonet, and founder of the Musicology Archive. In Lithuania, little is known about his life and work, and this book aims to provide a detailed biography of the forgotten musician and an overview of his work in order to broaden the knowledge of music history and to introduce Žilevičius into the context of Lithuanian musical culture. Two-thirds of the text are devoted to the life of the protagonist and the remaining third to the historical context, to better understand the nature of Žilevičius, his links with the past, relationships with his contemporaries, and visions for the future. Lithuania, which was incorporated into Russia in 1795, was called its Northwest Region and divided into governorates. Kaunas Governorate, established in 1843, included the territories of central and northern Lithuania as well as Samogitia, where Žilevičius was born in the late nineteenth century. It was inhabited by people of various nationalities, and at that time, nationality was linked to social status. A Pole meant a nobleman or a city dweller, a Lithuanian a peasant, and a Russian a government representative. This attitude was shaped by the way people in certain areas were grouped according to their denomination and type of activity. In the cities, foreigners-Russians, Poles, Germans-were active; the estates of the nobility and princes continued the traditions of aristocratic life in the times of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and fostered Western European art; in the countryside, Lithuanian ethnic culture was prospering. In the period of 1864 through 1904, in all the governorates, press in Latin characters was banned as well as Lithuanian schools and secular choirs. However, not only did this oppression not suppress, but it even encouraged the formation of the intelligentsia from the peasantry. It included priests (Antanas Baranauskas, Antanas Strazdas, Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas, Motiejus Valančius, Antanas Vienažindys), medical doctors (Jonas Basanavičius, Vincas Kudirka), and church organists (Juozas Kalvaitis, Juozas Naujalis, Mikas Petrauskas, Česlovas Sasnauskas), who became the authors of the first Lithuanian hymns, songs, poems, prose works, and 627 musical compositions. Through illegally published periodicals and books, they encouraged people to fight for their civil, national, and religious rights. A separate group consisted of landlords (the Princes Oginski and Count Tyzenhauz) who founded music schools and orchestras in Rokiškis, Rietavas, and Plungė, as well as students from St Petersburg and Moscow who would return to their homeland during their holidays and organise secret evenings in barns. Kaunas was the administrative centre of the entire Kaunas Governorate. In the late nineteenth century, it became a fortified city of Russia, and as a result, the majority of its budget was spent on military, rather than educational or cultural, needs. Nevertheless, Kaunas gradually expanded. Around 1865, the City Garden with a pavilion was opened, where performances were given by passing troupes or individual performers; in 1882, the Musical Society was established, bringing together local musicians to give concerts; in 1892, the City Theatre was opened; moreover, a music school operated. However, Lithuanians were not interested in the activities of these institutions that had nothing to do with their needs. They secretly formed choirs, read illegal literature brought from Lithuania Minor by book smugglers, and after the ban on the press had been lifted, they started to establish their own societies and schools, publish Lithuanian hymnals, newspapers, artistic, scientific, and educational literature, and organise cultural life. Žilevičius belonged to a noble family of Samogitia. He was born in the countryside of this ethnographic region, learnt at Palanga Progymnasium, and studied music under local organists; early on, he learned to play the piano and participated in a noblemen's ensemble, where he became acquainted with the main

The article documents non-liturgical forms of lay Christian activities during the Eucharist in Egypt between the 4th and 15th centuries and provides context for them. This is the first comprehensive attempt of this kind in research on Egyptian Christianity. The study takes into account the liturgical, linguistic, and spatial conditions of the Egyptian mass. It is based on scattered references in various sources in Greek, Coptic, and Arabic (including some Ethiopian and Syriac sources). These sources are of a legal-canonical, homiletic, hagiographic, and encyclopedic nature. An integral part of the article is a selection of sources translated into Polish. The analyses suggest that the Eucharistic liturgy was not only a religious event but also a significant social occasion. In addition to the official celebration, the church was also a place for parallel private devotion. Many of the faithful were excluded from full participation in the liturgy due to the church's spatial organization and the incomprehensible language.

Para el clero secular, el rezo comunitario del oficio divino fue una obligación no sólo entre quienes integraban los cabildos catedralicios o colegiales, sino también para los beneficiados y capellanes de las parroquias dotadas de abundante clerecía. Este deber conjunto trajo consigo la adopción del coro como espacio físico funcionalmente apropiado, tomando como modelo tipológico del mismo la habitual en las iglesias comúnmente dotadas de clero capitular: la catedral y la colegiata, como, a modo de estudio de caso, analizamos aquí en relación con los templos de la antigua vicaría jerezana en la archidiócesis de Sevilla. A pesar de ello, no se trató de una mera transposición a menor escala del consagrado arquetipo coral hispano, sino que, en razón a las necesidades pastorales que habría que salvar, presentaría determinadas singularidades, especialmente en orden a
su ubicación concreta en la nave.

The service is unique to the Coptic tradition. Many lections are read from the Old Testament and the Deuterocanonical books. The Book of Revelation is also read. Nueva consideración de los resultados de una excavación llevada a cabo en 1976, publicada en 1980, de los importantes restos de una basílica y su baptisterio situados en una principal zona extramuros, junto al puerto, de la ciudad de Hispalis. Publicaciones posteriores han dudado o negado, con argumentos erróneos, la identificación como tal de la piscina bautismal, pero todos los datos disponibles abogan por esa identificación, enriquecida por importantes excavaciones recientes en el mismo lugar que permiten plantearse la posibilidad de que allí estuviera el primer conjunto de basílica y residencia episcopal de la ciudad de Hispalis.

After highlighting the biblical roots of the Improperia and analysing the origins and evolution of the text, the contribution clarifies how later theological and liturgical interpretations progressively transformed their original meaning, giving them an anti-Semitic connotation that does not seem to be present in the older versions.

Українська сакральна монодія має понад тисячолітню історію. Церковний спів поширився на теренах Київської Русі одразу після прийняття Християнства за східним (візантійським, православним) літургічним обрядом. Жанр кондака з'явився у константинопольському кафедральному богослужінні на рубежі V-VI ст. Він виконувався грецькими протопсалтами та лампадаріями сольно в кульмінаційні моменти Пісенного Послі-дування. Кондак виформував власний жанровий стиль, що дістав назву «пападичний» (Візантія) або «кондакарний» (Київська Русь). Останній був мелізматичним та віртуозним (орнаментальним, колористичним, юбіляційним) і віддзеркалював символ трансцендентності (недосяжності) божественних енергій. Пападичний (кондакарний) стиль був під силу добре підготовленим солістам, а тому міг звучати виключно в патріарших і митрополичих соборах або ж у ставропігійних монастирях.

The book, The Christ who Embraces: An Orthodox Theology of Margins, explores the intersection of Orthodox Christian mission and caste dynamics among St. Thomas/Syrian/Orthodox Christians in India. It defines a liturgical touch or embrace in the context of 'untouchability, ' where people identify as equal without discrimination, reflecting the inseparable unity of Christ's transcendental (divine) and immanent (human) nature.

This is the initial initiative to define Orthodox theology in the context of social margins.

En 2017, les fondations d'une grande église ont été mises au jour sur le plateau des Garaffes à Elne (Pyrénées-Orientales-France), à 20 m à l'est de la cathédrale romane construite à partir du VIe s. Sa datation (VIe-VIIe s.) et ses dimensions ont incité à l'interpréter comme la cathédrale primitive, contemporaine peut-être de la première mention d'un évêché à Elne en 571. Cet édifice, constitué d'une seule nef achevée par une abside semi-circulaire, est en fonction durant l'ensemble du haut Moyen Âge avant d'être abandonné au Xe s. après qu'une partie du chevet se soit effondrée à la suite de l'érosion de la falaise. Pendant près de deux cents ans, érudits, historiens puis archéologues se sont interrogés sur les origines de l'évêché d'Elne et sur l'emplacement de la cathédrale ayant précédé l'édifice roman du XIe s. qui trône au sommet de l'ancien oppidum. Cette contribution retrace les grandes étapes de cette recherche et l'apport de cette découverte récente à la connaissance de la diffusion du christianisme et des premières églises en Roussillon. Elle permet également de suivre les grandes évolutions du plateau des Garaffes et les transformations du groupe épiscopal entre les  VIe-VIIe s. et l'époque moderne, qui vit le transfert définitif des cimetières hors les murs et de l'évêché à Perpignan.

Cabalgando por una gran selva del sur de Francia, divisó de pronto una magnífica cierva. En su persecución atravesó montes y cañadas-imposible darle alcance-, hasta que el animal se detuvo ante una cueva excavada en la roca y al instante una flecha atravesó los aires. «El rey se aproximó. Sus ojos fueron testigos de un espectáculo inesperado: la cierva se hallaba acurrucada y temblorosa a los pies de un anciano de larga cabellera y hábito de monje, puesto en oración. Espíritu Santo, ilumina mi mente y mi corazón, para comprender el mensaje del Evangelio. Haz que mis prejuicios no oscurezcan la verdad, y que tu sabiduría me lleve a vivir con fe y amor. En aquel tiempo, Jesús fue a Nazaret, donde se había criado. Entró en la sinagoga, como era su costumbre hacerlo los sábados, y se levantó para hacer la lectura. Se le dio el volumen del profeta Isaías, lo desenrolló y encontró el pasaje donde estaba escrito: "El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí, porque me ha ungido para llevar a los pobres la buena nueva, para anunciar la liberación a los cautivos y la curación a los ciegos, para dar libertad a los oprimidos y proclamar el año de gracia del Señor". Enrolló el volumen, lo devolvió al encargado y se sentó. Los ojos de todos los asistentes a la sinagoga estaban fijos en él. Entonces comenzó a hablar, diciendo: "Hoy mismo se ha cumplido este pasaje de la Escritura que acaban de oír". Todos le daban su aprobación y admiraban la sabiduría de las palabras que salían de sus labios. Y se preguntaban: "¿No es éste el hijo de José?" Jesús les dijo: "Seguramente me dirán aquel refrán: 'Médico, cúrate a ti mismo', y haz aquí en tu propia tierra todos esos prodigios que hemos oído que has hecho en Cafarnaúm". Y añadió: "Yo les aseguro que nadie es profeta en su tierra. Había ciertamente en Israel muchas viudas en los tiempos de Elías, cuando faltó la lluvia durante tres años y medio, y hubo un hambre terrible en todo el país; sin embargo, a ninguna de ellas fue enviado Elías, sino a una viuda que vivía en Sarepta, ciudad de Sidón. Había muchos leprosos en Israel en tiempos del profeta Eliseo; sin embargo, ninguno de ellos fue curado, sino Naamán, que era de Siria". Al oír esto, todos los que estaban en la sinagoga se llenaron de ira y, levantándose, lo sacaron de la ciudad y lo llevaron hasta un precipicio de la montaña sobre la que estaba construida la ciudad, para despeñarlo. Pero él, pasando por en medio de ellos, se alejó de allí. Palabra del Señor. Gloria a ti, Señor Jesús. Este pasaje revela cómo Jesús, al proclamarse el Mesías, no es recibido por los suyos. Presta atención al escándalo que produce su mensaje y cómo esto muestra la dureza del corazón humano frente a lo divino. Jesús anuncia la llegada del Reino con claridad y autoridad. Su misión está fundamentada en el Espíritu y dirigida a los pobres, ciegos, oprimidos y cautivos. Es una proclamación de esperanza para quienes sufren. La admiración inicial del pueblo de Nazaret se transforma en rechazo. La familiaridad con Jesús les impide reconocer al Enviado de Dios. La incredulidad se apoya en prejuicios, no en una falta de evidencia. Jesús muestra que Dios actúa también fuera de Israel. Esto hiere el orgullo de los oyentes, que desean exclusividad. Al ser confrontados con su cerrazón, prefieren deshacerse del profeta antes que convertirse. El Catecismo nos recuerda que la fe es una respuesta libre del hombre a la iniciativa de Dios (CIC 166). El rechazo de los nazarenos revela cómo el orgullo y la costumbre pueden nublar la apertura al misterio divino. Señor Jesús, que no cierre mi corazón a tu Palabra. Hazme humilde para reconocerte y acoger tu presencia incluso en lo cotidiano, sin prejuicios ni orgullos que rechacen tu acción en mi vida.

Jesús fue a Nazaret, donde se había criado; el sábado entró como de costumbre en la sinagoga y se levantó para hacer la lectura. Le presentaron el libro del profeta Isaías y, abriéndolo, encontró el pasaje donde estaba escrito: El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí, porque me ha consagrado por la unción. This article examines the commemoration of the departed within the Midnight Office, a liturgical practice of the Orthodox Church, with particular focus on its historical development and evolution. In the structure of the Midnight Office, a section dedicated to the dead includes troparia, psalms, and a diptych-type prayer. The roots of this tradition can be traced to the 11th-century monastic communities surrounding the Byzantine capital. A study of early manuscripts reveals various forms of this practice, and a comparative analysis highlights both its remarkable stability and its gradual development within the framework of daily monastic services.

Se procura atender el origen del conflicto, las posturas de los litigantes y la sentencia final del proceso en la audiencia episcopal poblana.

The Old Testament First and Second Book of Maccabees (1Macch; 2Macch) not included in the Old Slavonic Bible, one could find in Croatian Glagolitic breviaries and messals. Croatian Glagolitic messals were made according to the Latin messals, and they all contain readings only from the 2Macch; the lectiones 2Macch 1,23; 1,2-5 are contained in the Temporal, during the second Lent Saturday, while pericopes 2Macch 12,42-45 are contained in the masses for the dead. Those readings could be find in 18 Croatian Glagolitic manuscript and printed messals, dating from the 14th to mid-16th centuries. The analysis of the lexical variants, as well as the textological and comparatistic study of the The Fourt Vatican Messal (14th cent.) and other messals has confirmed the existence of two mainstream translation groups of messals: the older, northern Krk-Istrian group and another, more recent and southern Zadar-Krbava group. The textological analysis made evident that Croatian Glagolitic translation of 2Macch have much in common with the early printed versions of the Vulgata, originated from the „Paris” Bible (13th cent.). The lections of the Croatian Glagolitic text 2Macch 1,23, 1,2-5 and 12,42-45 from The Fourth Vatican Messal, including some versions from all other sources, is given in the Latinic transliteration.

This chapter explores the role of religious experience in the faith journeys of unchurched individuals in post-Christendom contexts. Drawing on a qualitative study of fifteen people who joined Berlin church plants, it shows that concrete religious experiences—whether through community encounters or direct spiritual events—were crucial in enabling belonging and belief. Theologically, the study challenges long-standing skepticism toward experiential claims of God’s presence, arguing instead that such experiences must be taken seriously for mission and pastoral practice. It concludes that in secular societies, the church’s task is to discern and accompany experiences of God’s tangible presence.

La sacramentología se desarrolló desde los Santos Padres hasta Santo Tomás de Aquino, alcanzando su apogeo en Trento, que instituyó la validez de los sacramentos. El Concilio Vaticano II la reorientó al ver el sacramento como una acción de Cristo para la Iglesia. Teólogos como Guardini y Casel influyeron en esta visión, que reestableció la conexión entre teología y liturgia, considerando a la Iglesia misma como sacramento.

Циљ овог рада је да представи развој курикулума, односно наставног плана и програма Православног богословског факултета Београдског универзитета у периоду од почетка спровођења наставе (1920) до 2023. године. Рад представља резултат истраживања архива Православног богословског факултета. Као главни извори послужиле су факултетске уредбе и записници седница факултетског Савета односно Наставно-научног већа. Долази се до закључка да је већ у иницијалној фази формирања курикулума (уредба из 1923) ове богословске институције настало једно језгро предмета по коме ће, уз мање модификације, Богословски факултет кроз читаву своју историју бити препознатљив. Овај рад представља покушај да се да допринос обележавању стогодишњице постојања највише образовне институције Српске Православне Цркве.

Belief in the Real Presence of Jesus substantially contained in the Eucharist is central to Catholicism (John 6:27-58; CCC, 1374-1375), but Catholics show declining Real Presence beliefs (Gray & Perl, 2008), possibly due to a decrease in Eucharistic-centric liturgical practices (Dugan, 2018; McGuinness, 2001). Here, I examine how bodily and related social liturgical practices predict U.S. Catholics' Eucharistic beliefs. The results show that Catholics who receive, or see others receive, the Eucharist on the tongue and who favor reception on the tongue are more likely to believe in the Real Presence. Further, Real Presence beliefs are stronger for those whose parishes ring consecration bells and offer the Latin Mass. Returning to more Eucharistic-centric liturgical practices may bolster Catholics' Real Presence beliefs (Kwasniewski, 2023; USCCB, 2021).

Pe lângă fundamentele biblice prezentate aici, prezentăm și mărturia mai multor autori din primele secole ale creștinismului pe această temă crucială.

El present article proposa una reflexió històrico-crítica sobre el ritu litúrgic de la Traditio Evange liorum en els sacramentaris romans, que es troba dins l'itinerari catecumenal. La presència d'aquest ritual evidencia la importància atorgada a la Paraula de Déu i la seva «celebració» litúrgica en la iniciació cristiana. El context històric en el qual es va establir aquest ritu estava sota la influència teològica del papa Gregori el Gran, i la seva dimensió simbòlica i celebrativa es pot inferir a partir del gènere bíblic -catequètic de les visions d'Ezequiel i de l'Apocalipsi. El passat sínode sobre la Paraula de Déu i l'últim Sínode, centrat en la nova evangelització, ofereixen el contrapunt a l'autor per a reconsiderar aquesta centralitat en els processos catequètics actuals. L'«entrega» litúrgica de l'Escriptura en les mans dels fidels és un acte de gran valor simbòlic que apropa la realitat de la Paraula a la comprensió eclesiàstica i profètica de la fe.

This paper traces the process of the reform of «De Benedictionibus» (The Book of Blessings) in three main stages. It begins with the proposals and discussions of the Second Vatican Council, in its antepreparatory and preparatory periods as well as at the Council itself (1959-1963). The first phase of the reform of «De Benedictionibus» (1964-1975), which includes many of the available schemata of the «Consilium ad exsequendam», is then examined. Finally, there is a brief look at the reform's second phase (1975-1984), with some preliminary conclusions about the process of the reform itself.

Many of Pius Parsch's writings were widely read beyond the German-speaking world. His most widely read work, Das Jahr des Heils, which went through 14 editions, has been translated into nine languages, and his shorter book, Lernet die Messe verstehen, into 13 languages.
The reception of Parsch abroad is still an area of research that needs to be explored. This article aims to briefly outline examples of Parsch's influence in the US by interviewing two very different representatives of the American liturgical movement about their connections to Parsch: Michael Mathis, who, inspired by his reading of Pius Parsch, founded the still very fruitful “Liturgy Program” at the University of Notre Dame, and Herman Josef Untraut, who worked as a parish priest for German immigrants in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and is an example of the very early reception of Parsch in the USA. This is followed by an overview of English translations of Parsch's works and their reception in the authoritative journal Orate fratres.

The oath as a social phenomenon can be traced back to the time of ancient civilizations. The oaths
have been widespread in various countries. They are marked by their presence in many spheres of life,
characterized by a wide range of semantic aspects and functional purpose. The legal, religious, moral,
social or economic meaning of the oath is expressed in standardized rituals, codified ceremonies, filled with
outlined symbolic semantics. The communicative dimension of oaths is implied from ancient chronicles
and medieval narratives of Western and Central Europe. The conventional character of the oaths’ texts, which
concern first of all the conscience of the one who composes it, is based on the sacred-ritual understanding
of the communication that preceded the verbal one. In the Middle Ages, oaths were part of the Christian
worldview. The oaths appealed to supernatural sanction and guarantee, and their forms of expression
appealed to the realm of the sacred as a special presence of God in the earthly world. Medieval oaths were
part of sacred rituals. The semantics of oaths was revealed through the prism of symbols as a figurative
form of expression of legal obligations and ethical norms. Ritual ceremonies of royal oaths during anointing
ceremonies took place as part of the solemn coronation Mass. This symbolized the authorization by God's
blessing of the beginning of a new reign of the monarch, who promised to be a just head of state. In Western
Europe, oaths were taken standing or kneeling, with a raised right hand, two, three fingers or a whole palm,
in front of the reliquaries. It was part of a knightly culture and Christian ritual and had its own holistic
symbolic explanation. The oath on the sacramental bread was a special symbol in the desire to conclude
a peace treaty, to stop or prevent war. In the ancient period of Ukrainian history, international and inter-
princely agreements were sealed by crucifixion. Chronicles give examples of taking oaths on the icons
of the Savior and the Virgin, as well as before the relics of saints.
