11:03 The Essence of the Islamic Worldview Since the dawn of humanity, people have been driven to seek answers to profound questions about their existence and the meaning of life. Caught in this perplexing condition, humanity has turned to prophets, philosophers, sages, and scholars to explain the purpose of life. As the world evolved from a primitive to a more modern setting, the expansion of human knowledge and understanding opened up many avenues for answering the once unanswerable questions. Though knowledge expansion in the world of science brought many positive changes in human life, on the philosophical level, humanity became so divided with countless contending ideas and ideologies that compartmentalized people into their own ways of thinking.

Jalabi and Sufism are two abiding practices among Yoruba Muslims. Both have been instrumental to the consolidation
and propagation of Islam across the Yorubaland. Many early Yoruba Muslims, especially Islamic scholars, were Jalabi
practitioners and Sufi adherents. Still, both have been condemned recently by Salafiyyah scholars, who considered
innovations (bid’ah). They even regard the two practices as synonymous. Conversely, the practitioners disagree with
them and claim the legitimacy of the two practices in Islam. This study examines the two phenomena to the veracity
of the two claims. Historical and exegetical methods are adopted. The former enables the assessment of historical
facts connected to Jalabi and Sufism in Yorubaland. Also, the latter allows the interpretation of relevant works,
especially the primary sources of Islam, to determine the legitimacy of the two variables. Findings revealed that both
have credence in Islam and that early Muslim scholars devised Jalabi as a da’wah strategy to propagate Islam. It also
revealed that both exist independently, though combined by some scholars. The work concluded that neither can be
displaced in Islam and that Salafiyyah scholars address each according to its peculiarities.

Studies have shown that person-centred approach to counselling is effective in helping
various groups of clients. It has been almost thirty years after the departure of Carl Rogers
(1902-1987), yet, the approach remains influential in counselling. In Malaysia, it becomes
one of the most practised counselling approaches among counselling practitioners. As the
theory was developed in the United States and represents the Western secular worldview, it
is necessary to look into its philosophy and concepts from the Islamic perspective. This is due
to the reason that many counselling practitioners and clients in Malaysia are Muslims. Hence,
the article aims to discuss the main features of the person-centred theory, such as its
philosophy, view of human nature, the origin of an individual’s problem, and counsellor’s
personal qualities, and review them from an Islamic perspective. The writer refers to the
Quranic verses and Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (saw). It could be concluded that as
one of the Western-based theories, the approach does not associate the view of human nature
and potentialities with the concept of the soul, the purpose of creation, and accountability on
the Day of Judgement. However, its emphasis on the importance of the counsellor’s personal
qualities in bringing about positive changes in the client aligns with Islamic teaching.

Introduction: Medical futility and advanced medical directive are related issues in end-of-life medical decisions that present challenge to doctors and patients in terminal condition and to doctors and family members of patients who are critically ill in the ICU. Materials and Methods: A qualitative study comprises of literature search and an in-depth interview of experts was carried out to determine the clinical situations in medical futility and the ethical considerations from the Islamic perspective that justify forgoing medical treatment and also the practice of advanced medical directives in the country. Results: In such scenarios, clinical data must be interpreted alongside patient values, as well as the physicians’ ethical commitments. Religion plays an imperial role in the ever-changing healthcare system of Malaysia. The Malaysian, being a multi-racial society, has to adapt and accommodate various practices of religion from different cultural and religious backgrounds. It is this diversity that demands the understanding of the different ideology of faith a necessity to the healthcare giver such as doctors, nurses and the paramedics. This article aims to compare the principles and practices of the official religion of Malaysia, Islam, as compared to the mainstream religion of the Chinese race, which is Buddhism. The discussions focus mainly on the general beliefs and practices of these two religions, the approach towards health and disease and dealing with the issues of death and dying.

The trend in most part of the western world today is the agitations for a person to have the right to take his own life, when such life, becomes unbearable due to pain, being the result of a severe or terminal illness. This is the position of proponents of the concept of euthanasia and assisted suicide. Opponents of the concept on the other hand are of the view that no matter the circumstances, a person should not take his own life because he has contributed nothing to its creation. They therefore uphold the sanctity of life as against its quality. This paper seeks to examine the relative arguments and will address the position of Islamic law governing the euthanasia debate.

Christianity and Islam are two major religions that have gained a lot of adherents in the world. In Ghana, adherents of Christianity and Islam have the highest percentage among the three main religions.Albeit both Islam and Christianity claim to be monotheistic,believing inone omnipotent and omniscient supernatural God, their ethical norms and principles, however, manifest similarities and dissimilarities. This paper endeavours to do a critical comparative study of Christian ethics and Islamic ethics, in the Ghanaian context, with the hope that the similarities will strengthen harmonious coexistence while the dissimilarities will task us to target and develop collaborative measures that can ensuremutual understanding and beef upreligious tolerance for the benefit of both religions and their numerous adherents.

(IIUM) to organise an international colloquium centering on creativity, education, values and sustainable development. However, with the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19, the symposium was held online on Google Meet platform on Wednesday, 9 September 2020 where academicians shared insights on the cruciality of sustainability and creativity. The one day symposium brought together scholars not only from Malaysia but all around the Muslim world. It alerted the attendees on the role that higher education institutions play in sustainable development. It addresses the necessity to revise the methods of teaching creativity through research and revisit educational aims to be in line with the Islamic concept as there are multiple barriers of creativity in the Muslim world, however, creativity plays a vital part in our role as a khalifah (vicegerent). In critically examining the subject of sustainable development, the scholars deduced that Islamic worldview is the answer to sustainable development which is supported by a value system and ethics and supported by creativity. WASAṭIYYAH IN THE CURRENT WORLD SITUATION 2. (A)The mission of Islam as a peaceful religion which advocates inter-religious tolerance is being distorted by non-Muslim states, media, NGOs and religious fundamentalists in the world. The phenomenon of religious extremism as well as religious liberalism, among some Muslim groups, has also tarnished the image of Islam among non-Muslims in the West and the East. In Muslim societies, the concept of wasatiyyah has not been given the attention it deserves. THE QUR'ĀNIC MEANING AND CONNOTATIONS OF WASAṭIYYAH: 7. One of the wise sayings of the Arabs is "Khairu al-umūr al-wasaṭ" (The best of affairs is the middle position). Therefore when it was said that the Quraish tribe is "awsaṭ al-ʻArab" in terms of genealogy and locality, it means that it was the best tribe, just as when it was said that the Prophet (Ṣ.'A.W.) was "wasaṭan fi qawmihi" it means that the Prophet (Ṣ.'A.W.) the noblest among his people genealogically. (Al-Qaraḍāwī, 1977). Hence the word "awsaṭuhum" in verse 28 of Surah al-Qalam(Q.68) has been interpreted by the Qur'an commentators to mean "the most just of them" (aʻdaluhum). This interpretation is confirmed by al-Imām al-Rāzī in his Tafsīr in which he says, "The most just place for deciding something is to be in the middle, because its judgement with regard to all its sides is the same and is equal." (Al-Rāzī, Tafsīr) GRAPHIC REPRESENTATION OF THE CONCEPT From a comprehensive understanding of the concept of wasaṭiyyah as constitutive of the core qualities of JUSTICE, EXCELLENCE and BALANCE as mentioned above, it is possible to present the comprehensive and holistic meaning of the Qur'ānic concept in the following illustration, on the next page. It is our humble attempt to simplify the intellectual discourse on the concept and to convey its holistic and interrelated nature.

The apologetic attitude among Buddhists towards issues related to Islamic teachings in Malaysia gave a manifestation of the existence of an early Islamophobic symptom. Hence this paper will discuss the form and level of Islamophobia among Buddhists in Malaysia. The design is qualitative by using content analysis designs based on books, articles, magazines, reports and websites related to research topics. The study found that the form of Islamophobia among Buddhists in Malaysia was based on their objections to the issue of Islamisation and certain policies that potentially to treat the religious survival dan their followers in practicing their religion. The study also found the level of Islamophobia among Malaysian Buddhists is at fear and treat. Hence, there is a need to reconcile their understanding on Islam and Muslims, besides empower the good relation at all stages.

Au cours de ces dernières années, les sociétés européennes se considérant comme affranchies du religieux, ou du moins au sein desquelles la religion détermine de moins en moins les comportements quotidiens, sont confrontées à des débats suscités par des affirmations identitaires, culturelles et religieuses. Ce phénomène traverse l’ensemble des champs sociaux, y compris le champ médical. Aux réalités diverses, psychologiques, socio-économiques, etc., auxquels sont confrontés les professionnels de la santé, ils doivent aujourd’hui également prendre en considération la multiplicité des héritages ainsi que les différentes références culturelles et religieuses. Ce document s’intéresse particulièrement à certaines conceptions islamiques qui peuvent générer des situations d’incompréhensions, d’inconfort, voire de tensions et de conflits entre les soignants et certains patients musulmans dans les milieux de la santé. Ce document présentera brièvement l’hétérogénéité des communautés musulmanes. Ensuite, nous traiterons de la problématique du rapport de l’islam à la science, et à la médecine en particulier. Enfin, nous esquissons quelques éléments de réflexions sur la place du corps, la conception de la mort et de la maladie, de la pudeur ainsi que les relations de genre qui peuvent impacter les rapports avec les praticiens de la santé. A regional economy consists of industries with a variety of economic potentials. A growth or decline in any of these sectors affects the overall growth of the economy. Analysis of economic growth by sector of a particular region helps policy makers, community leaders and researchers in better decision making and problem solving. This study analyzes the employment growth pattern and policy implications in the economic development of West Virginia using a dynamic shift share analysis. The study uses employment data for 38 years from 1970 to 2007 for the empirical analysis. Results indicate that agriculture, mining and manufacturing are no longer the backbone of the economy of West Virginia. The three sectors showed employment declined within the 38-year period. Service and financial insurance and real estate are the most robust sectors contributing 91% of employment growth from 1970 to 2007. Apart from these two sectors, the wholesale and retail and construction sectors showed positive economic growth. Identification of investment priorities within these potential sectors and implementation of a comprehensive regional development policy plan would definitely accelerate the economic growth of West Virginia.

Malaysia is one of the unique countries in the world. It is a country diverse in its ethnicity, religion, culture, language, etc. People of different faith groups coexist in a harmonious manner by acknowledging the rights of others to practice their faith and observe their days of festive. When it comes to festivals celebrated in the country, Eid-ul-Fitr becomes the most grandest with all its significance.

Therapeutic interventions deal with healthy living i.e., maintenance of good health, dealing with conditions that requires special care such as child birth and healing i.e., treatment and cure of the sickness. Islam guides mankind to have ultimate faith on Allah Almighty's approval for healthy living and healing as well as provides guidelines for cleanliness, healthy eating/drinking habits and controlled physical and mental stress. Thus, holistic view of healthy living and healing in Islam is founded both on the faith on the oneness and the almighty authority of Allah as well as physical, social, psychological factors. Revealed scriptures before Qur`an, gave equal emphasis on the same faith and factors. At the same time, different schools of thought of therapeutic interventions deal either with the physical or the metaphysical means of health and healing. This paper will discuss the links and gaps between Islamic principles and practices for health and healing and similar practices in other faith and therapeutic interventions observed in (post)modern community.

Religion plays an imperial role in the ever-changing healthcare system of Malaysia. The Malaysian, being a multi-racial society, has to adapt and accommodate various practices of religion from different cultural and religious backgrounds. It is this diversity that demands the understanding of the different ideologies of faith as a necessity to the healthcare giver such as doctors, nurses, and paramedics. This article aims to compare the principles and practices of the official religion of Malaysia, Islam, as compared to the mainstream religion of the Chinese, which is Buddhism. The discussions focus on the general beliefs and practices of these two religions, the approach towards health and disease and dealing with the issues of death and dying.

The secularisation of the modern fields of knowledge leads to the deprivation of religious and spiritual considerations, particularly in the current medical curriculum. In the past, the heavy medical curriculum has been blamed as a major contributing factor of production of ―disease- oriented‖ rather than ―patient-oriented‖ medical practitioners. Undergraduate students are very much unprepared to integrate the Islamic knowledge acquired during school-going years into the hectic life and specific conditions that they will encounter in the real clinical settings. There is a great need to reform the current education system to produce critical-minded medical practitioners, especially from the various aspects of the Islamic perspective. In IIUM, the teaching of medicine is augmented by series of relevant lectures and programs in line with the University‖s Islamization of Human Knowledge agenda. The Department of Orthopaedics, Traumatology and Rehabilitation of IIUM has taken a step ahead by introducing the Islamic Input in Orthopaedics (Triple IO) Module since 2002. Since its implementation, various obstacles have been faced and many improvements have been made. After more than a decade, we would like to share our experience in conducting the program and how to improve it further to cope with future challenges.

Rukhsoh (permit) is a concessionary law and is the technical opposite of azimah (decidedness) in Islamic jurisprudence. It is considered an important flexible rule that Muslim physicians need to understand in order to develop solutions for hardships and difficulties in performing practical acts of worship. However, discussions regarding this matter in both classical and current literatures of Islamic jurisprudence are generally limited and poorly structured. This review attempts to deliver a structured account on the principles and applications of rukhsoh in medical issues related to practical acts of worship. This review comprises two parts of discussion. The first section begins with a general discussion of rukhsoh i.e. concept of rukhsoh in Islamic jurisprudence followed with a discussion on the types of rukhsoh and their determining factors. The general principles in applying the concept of rukhsoh in ibaadah and daily life will also be outlined and discussed. The second part delves into specific discussions, which focus on selected common practical issues, which necessitates the application of rukhsoh. The discussions will revolve around the specific medical conditions, which jeopardise patients‖ ability to conduct their act of worship and how the rukhsoh would come into place.

This article explores the performative dimensions of the Zar ceremony as carried out throughout the Persian Gulf. This ceremony is mirrored by similar ones throughout North and East Africa, suggesting that the Zar may have resulted from cultural diffusion along historical trade routes. The Zar practitioners, the baba and the mama, have extensive demands in musical performance, movement and coordination in order to affect a palliative relief for persons affected by spirit ‘winds’ that inhabit them. The analysis in this paper uses the framework of ritual structure developed by Arnold Van Gennep and Victor Turner to show how the practitioners skilfully guide the person at the centre of the ceremony and the community of the ‘People of the Wind’ to a successful conclusion by bringing persons under treatment from a ‘normal’ state through a ‘liminal’ state to an eventual ‘reincorporated’ state in which relief is experienced. The performative aspects of the ceremony move those who are being treated through stages in which the inhabiting spirit is  addressed: induction, movement into a trance state both for the practitioner and the person being treated, addressing of the spirit by the practitioners and return of the person being treated to normal life. All of these stages are marked by special music, chanting and movement. The Zar ceremony is an important method of non-allopathic treatment for emotional disorders that might elsewhere be treated through psychiatry in clinical settings.

Of late, there has been much talk in the Muslim world about boycotting certain products to impact principally the economy of Israel's proxy, the United States, which is appropriate and timely, and ought to be supported by all legitimate and effective means.

The objective of this paper is to calculate the net shift and identify the potential country for rubber export from Malaysia. The study examines the global export market growth and its prospects and contests for Malaysia’s rubber product and analyzes the policy implications in developing rubber export in existing market and new market using a dynamic shift share method. The study selects ten potential countries and uses two types of rubber export data on the basis of 3-digit SITC for the period of 2001-2005 and 2006-2010. Results indicate that the product SITC-232 is the highest opportunity for the percentage growth and percentage net shit in which Thailand achieved highest net shift. On the other hand, the product SITC-231 shows only the highest opportunity for absolute growth in which China attained highest position for absolute growth.
