This article explores the profound concept of Taqwa (piety and God-consciousness) in Islam — the true foundation of spiritual success. It emphasizes that real honor and peace lie not in wealth or worldly status but in the purity of the heart and obedience to Allah. The article discusses how Taqwa protects the soul from sin, strengthens faith, and brings peace to life. Drawing from Quranic verses and Hadith, it highlights that Taqwa is an inner light that guides believers toward honesty, humility, and righteousness. In today’s world of moral decline and materialism, this article reminds us that Taqwa remains the key to real success in both this life and the Hereafter.

Dünyanın etnik ve dini açıdan heterojen bölgelerinden biri olan Kafkasya’nın tarihi, ortaçağ kaynaklarına geniş ölçüde yansımaktadır. Bu kaynaklar arasında X. yüzyıl İslam kaynaklarının özel bir yeri vardır. İbn Fadlan, İbn Havkal, el-Mesudi ve el-Mukaddesi gibi  ünlü coğrafyacıların eserlerinde, Kafkasya’nın siyasi coğrafyası ve ticari ilişkileri ile birlikte
burada yaşayan halkların dilleri, etnik kökenleri ve dini inançları hakkında bilgilere de rastlamaktayız.
Bahsedilen kaynaklar, Kafkasya’nın yerel halkları arasında Azerbaycan Türkleri, Gürcüler, Abhazlar, Osetler, Lezgiler, Bulgarlar, Hazarlar ve b. olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu bilgilerden, İslam’ın bölgede yayılmasıyla birlikte Türk İslam faktörünün hâkim olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Aynı zamanda bu dönemde Bizans’ın Kafkasya’da yerleşme girişimleri de azalmamış ve bölgede mezhep ayrımcılığının ortaya çıkmasına neden olmuştur.
X. yüzyıl İslam kaynaklarının kapsamlı bir şekilde araştırılması, etnik ve dini çeşitliliğe rağmen, Kafkasya’nın yerli halklarının Orta Çağ için imkânsız görünen bir hoşgörüye sahip olduğu sonucuna varıyor.

Bu çalışma, bir yahni çeşidi olan zirbacenin etimolojisini, kültürel coğrafyasını, çeşitlerini, tıbbi kullanımını ve edebiyattaki yerini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Orta Çağ İran kaynaklarında “kimyonlu aş” anlamında teknik bir terim olarak geçen zirbace, İran, Irak ve Kuzey Afrika gibi coğrafyaların mutfağında yer almış, buradan Osmanlı mutfağına aktarılmıştır. Saray, imaret ve medrese gibi kurumsal mutfaklarda pişirilmiş; aynı zamanda hasta yemeği olarak kullanılmış ve günümüzde Edirne mutfağında yaşatılmaktadır. Zirbacenin bir çorba olarak literatüre girip zamanla etli yemeğe, ardından Osmanlı bağlamında tatlıya dönüşmesi, coğrafi ve kültürel değişkenlerin mutfak kültürünü nasıl dönüştürdüğünü göstermektedir. Temin edilebilirlik, beslenme alışkanlıkları ve yöresel tercihlere bağlı olarak tarifler çeşitlenmiş; her biri 3 ila 17 malzemeyle yapılan tarifler arasında hem etli (et, tavuk, balık,

Abstract
This study aims to examine the etymology, cultural geography, variations, medicinal use, and literary presence of zirbaja, a type of stew. Technically defined in medieval Iranian sources as a “cuminbased dish,” zirbaja was part of the culinary traditions of regions such as Iran, Iraq, and North Africa, from where it was incorporated into the Ottoman cuisine. It was prepared in institutional kitchens such as those of palaces, soup kitchens, and madrasas; it was also administered as a medicinal food and continues to be cooked today in the regional cuisine of Edirne. The transformation of zirbaja from a soup to a meat dish, and eventually into a dessert within the Ottoman context, illustrates how culinary practices were reshaped by geographical and cultural dynamics. Ingredient availability, dietary preferences, and local customs led to the diversification of recipes, ranging from 3 to 17 ingredients and including both carnivorous (meat, poultry, fish, pigeon) and vegetarian or vegan types. The ingredients used in these recipes consist of quince, almond, almond oil, tripe & intestine stuffing, honey, fish, pepper, wheat starch, raw pistachio, cinnamon, mastic gum, bread crumbs, sourdough, plum, fermented meat broth & dough, rosewater, pigeon meat, mustard, galangal, carrot, date, jujube, fig, squash, black pepper, mixed spices, meat, cumin, coriander, kulunç herb, raisins, lemon leaf, lettuce stalk, dried fruit, musk, mint, chickpeas, chard, leek, chicken & hen, rice,

The Abbasid Caliphate("Islamic form of government"), one of history's most powerful and enduring Islamic empires, faced persistent challenges to its sovereignty and legitimacy from its inception in 750 CE through the mid-12th century. Rather than experiencing a sudden collapse, the caliphate underwent a gradual erosion of centralized authority, driven by military and fiscal vulnerabilities, logistical overextension, and increasing reliance on mamluks, viziers, and regional elites. This process also saw the marginalization of its founding Arab("people from Middle East and North Africa") elite and the rise of local political figures who further fragmented imperial control. Understanding these dynamics is essential for grasping the complexities of medieval Islamic history and the eventual transition of power to emerging forces like the Seljuks("Oghuz Turkic, Sunni Muslim dynasty") . This paper explores how the Abbasids navigated these structural pressures while attempting to preserve their divine authority and political relevance. By tracing four key historical periods, it reveals how the caliphate's marginalization of Arab elites, reliance on Persian("people from Iran") and Turkic("people from western and central Asia") actors, and contested control over core state functions, such as minting and taxation, created an unstable balance of power. Ultimately, the Abbasids' struggle was not merely one of decline but of adaptation and assertion, Jeanty 2 culminating in their confrontation with Seljuk authority in Baghdad by 1146 CE. Prior to the Abbasid Caliphate, the Middle East was dominated by two major Arab dynasties. The first was rooted in the followers of the Prophet Muhammad, who unified the Arabian Peninsula through the establishment of Islam. The second was the Umayyad Caliphate, drawn from a prominent lineage in Mecca. After the Prophet's death, the region descended into political turmoil. As the empire expanded, discontent spread, culminating in a civil war that brought the Umayyad dynasty to power. Yet many within the empire questioned the Umayyads' legitimacy. The Abbasid family seized this opportunity by presenting themselves as closer descendants of the Prophet and by adopting a revolutionary strategy. They built an underground movement led by Muhammad ibn ʿAlī and launched a propaganda campaign asserting that the caliphate rightfully belonged to the Banu("clan") Hāshim rather than the Banu Umayyah. They also rallied mawālī("non-Arab Muslims"), who had long felt marginalized and excluded. 2 Together, these strategies fueled a broad-based uprising that ultimately toppled the Umayyad Caliphate in 750 CE, establishing the Abbasids as the third great dynasty of the Islamic Empire after the Umayyads. a. The article aims a) to study the question of peaceful coexistence between Christian Georgia and the Islamic World; b) to discuss and explore the policy of tolerance of other religions pursued by Georgian King David IV the Builder and his successors in their Muslim subjects. It is suggested that the status of the Muslim population in the Christian Kingdom of Georgia resembled that of the dhimmis (or members of the "protected" communities) in the Islamic states, although the Muslims living in the Kingdom of Georgia enjoyed more rights than the dhimmis in Islamic countries, legally and socially they were not equal with Christians. The methodological foundation of the research is the method of historicism, scholarly objectivity, and systematicity, which will enable us to explore the research issues deeply. Statistical, historical-comparative, and chronological methods will be the basis of the analysis of the historical data, and adequate conclusions will be reached. These methodologies made it possible to discuss the politics of religious tolerance from the analytic point of view based on that data and sources belonging to various types (narrative, epigraphic, documental) and various languages (Georgian, Armenian, Arabic, Persian and Turkish). The 12th-13th century Georgian literature and historical sources, expressing negative feelings towards Islam, keep silent about the policy of Georgian kings towards their subjected Muslim population. However, the works of Arab and Persian authors, dating from the same period, contain information concerning this fact. One part of these sources will be studied from the standpoint of the history of Georgia for the 􀅭irst time.

Presentation given for the Commemoration of the Jingjiao Stele
and the Inauguration of the Hong Kong Institute of Jingjiao Studies, Hong Kong, October 18, 2025.

The presentation examines the quasi-systematic use of the character seng 僧 in the Chinese names listed on the sides of the Jingjiao Stele, proposing that it functioned as a surname equivalent to mark Christian affiliation while concealing ethnic origins. In the context of post-An Lushan Rebellion anti-Hu sentiment, the monument’s author may have deliberately obscured Christian foreign origins. This ethnic concealment reflects the political realities of 781 CE, when associations with those labelled as 'foreigners' —especially Sogdians— were regarded as problematic in Chang’an under the early reign of Dezong. A comparative analysis with the Luoyang Pillar (815 CE) and Mi Jifen’s epitaph (806 CE) suggests that seng 僧 functioned on the Jingjiao Stele as an integral component of compound religious names rather than as an ecclesiastical title. Andrew D. Magnusson's monograph offers a fascinating exploration of an edge case of dhimmiya (protected minority status) in early Islamic legal discussions and practices, and provides an admirable methodological intervention into the study of agenda-driven historical sources. Magnusson illustrates how "Zoroastrians"-whether referred to as Persian maghān, Arabic majūs, ʿabadat al-awthān (idol worshippers), or mushrikūn (polytheists)served a paradigmatic function in Islamic discussions of non-Muslims and the indeterminate boundaries between People of the Book and other religious minorities, from the early centuries of the Islamic era through to the present day. He demonstrates how Zoroastrians' formerly elite status in the Sasanian ancien régime, along with their continued presence in the Islamic East, bolstered their salience as lieux de mémoire ("sites of memory," per Pierre Nora) and as subjects of legal, political, and social contestation. Although his review of relevant sources and their problems is itself illuminating, Magnusson is at his most compelling when examining how these sources have been used in historical and contemporary polemic. He details how ambiguous interpretive traditions and reports about the status of Zoroastrians, often mobilized for specific local or personal agendas, subsequently take on far more generalized import in Islamic thought and practice. Likewise, agenda-driven narratives of early Muslim-Zoroastrian conflict or coexistence, which often diverge from actual historical dynamics, eventually play important roles in retrospective accounts. His efforts to "chart a course between myth and countermyth" (p. 27)-applying methodological insights from scholars such as Georges Duby, David Nirenberg, and Michael Stausberg, alongside overall lessons from the study of Jewish and Christian Islamicate history-are commendable, yielding fruitful results. In his introduction, Magnusson surveys relevant late antique Zoroastrian concepts and terminology. He explains the cataclysmic nature of Islamic conquest from that perspective. But this is rather pro forma, as his study is decidedly focused on Islamic sources and perspectives, dealing primarily with "rhetorical Zoroastrians" within Muslim discourse. His defense of "accommodation" as the organizing concept for his study of the premodern Islamic world is well articulated, and his examples for each chapter are well chosen. Chapter 1 is a brief extension of the introduction that highlights the significance of historiography for contemporary Zoroastrians and Muslims; noting that scholars have both perpetuated and questioned overarching tropes. Chapter 2 presents the first thorough case study, correctly identifying Zoroastrians' eligibility to pay the jizya tax (and therefore their status as dhimmis, or protected non-Muslims) as the key issue around which subsequent questions revolve. Amaç: Bu çalışmada Artuklular devrinde yaşamış çok yönlü bir alim ve aynı zamanda hekim olan İbn İlalmış’ın (1178-1242) yazdığı Târîhu Duneyser adlı biyografi (tabakât) kitabından hareketle Duneyser (Kızıltepe/Mardin) coğrafyasında aktif hekimlik yapan 8 hekimin biyografisi ele alınacaktır. 
Gereç ve Yöntem: Bahsi geçen bu kitabın hekimlerle ilgili olan ve iki kısımdan oluşan yedinci bölümünün yanı sıra bu hekimlerle ilgili olarak bilgi içeren dönemin tarih, coğrafya, tabakât kitapları ve mevcut araştırmalardan yararlanılmıştır. 
Bulgular: Artuklu devrinde Mardin yöneticisi Timurtaş’ın tavsiyesiyle Hekim İlalmış’a yazdırılan ve şehrin seçkin bilginlerinin biyografisini konu edinen Târîhu Duneyser isimli kitabı kaynakların çok az bir kısmında zikredilen simaları ele alması bakımından kıymetlidir. Çalışmada adı geçen bazı hekimlerin dönemin tıp dünyasında meşhur olduğu ve eserlerinin günümüze kadar ulaştığı bilinmektedir. Kitapta farklı meslek grubundan altmış kişinin biyografisine yer verilmiş olup bunların sekizi hekimdir ve Duneyser’de aktif hekimlik yapmıştır. Bu hekimlerden ikisinin babası şehirde aktif görev yaparken Duneyser’de doğmuşlar ve hekimlik mesleğine bu şehirde başlamıştır.
Sonuç: Orta Çağ’da önemli şehirler arasında sayılan Duneyser’in gerek tababet gerekse de diğer meslek grupları için uygun bir ortam olduğu söylenebilir. Bağdat ve Musul merkezli eğitim sürecinden geçmiş hekimlerin Duneyser’i tercih etmeleri bu coğrafyada bilimsel ortamı destekleyici bir idarenin olduğuna işarettir. Bu hekimlerin hem kendi aralarında hem de farklı coğrafyalardaki hekimlerle iletişimi ve hoca-öğrenci ilişkisi bilginin taşınmasında ve etkileşimde rol oynayan faktörlerdendir. Dolayısıyla Duneysir merkezli hekimlerin birçok ortak özelliği aynı zamanda çalışmanın prosopografik yönünü de yansıtması açısından önemlidir.

ABSTRACT
Objective: This study focuses on the biographies of eight physicians who practiced medicine in the region of Dunayser (present-day Kızıltepe/Mardin/Türkiye) during the Artuqid period. The primary source is Tārīkh Dunayser, a biographical (ṭabaqāt) work authored by the polymath and physician Ibn al-Ilālmish (1178–1242).
Materials and Methods: The analysis is based on the seventh chapter of Tārīkh Dunayser, which consists of two parts specifically dedicated to physicians. Additional information has been gathered from contemporary historical, geographical, and biographical works, as well as modern academic studies.
Results: Commissioned by Timurtash, the Artuqid ruler of Mardin, this work presents the biographies of sixty distinguished figures, eight of whom were physicians active in Dunayser. The value of the text lies in its coverage of individuals rarely mentioned in other sources. Some of the named physicians were prominent in the medical world of their time, and their writings have survived. Two of them were born in Dunayser and began their careers there, following in the footsteps of their fathers.
Conclusion: Dunayser was a significant medieval city that provided a suitable environment for both medical and scholarly pursuits. The fact that physicians trained in Baghdad and Mosul chose to reside and work there suggests a supportive intellectual and political climate. The interaction among local and regional physicians, along with mentor-student relationships, contributed to knowledge transmission. The shared characteristics of these figures also underscore the prosopographical dimension of the study.

Çalışmanın temel tezi, söz konusu dönemde mevâlî kurumunun şekillenmesindeki ve işleyişindeki ana saikin, birey ve toplulukların karşı karşıya kaldığı yaygın güvenlik problemi olduğu yönündedir. The question of the transition from Middle Persian to New Persian has been hotly debated. This article attempts to answer two questions: who spoke New Persian before it was put into writing in the middle of the
9th c.? This social group is identified with the soldiers of the armies of Abū Muslim, i.e. peasants from Marw and their descendants. They came during one century to the forefront of Abbasid political and administrative life and imposed their specific dialect as a political language, in the shadow of Arabic. The second question is: what could have been the origins of the spoken language in the Marw oasis of the first half of the 8th c.? The article tries to demonstrate, on a much more tentative basis, that the demographic history of an oasis twice manned by soldiers from the South, first Middle Persian-speaking ones and then Arabic ones, both groups added to the local, Parthian-speaking population, is well reflected in the unique combination of Middle Persian, Arabic and Parthian characteristic of Early New Persian. Early New Persian is the language of 8th c. Marw, or more generally Outer Khurāsān. This Marw hypothesis, based on the presence of Parthian vocabulary, is however very cautious, as nothing is known of the grammar of spoken late Middle Persian and many of the linguistic differences between Middle and New Persian might have evolved separately in different historical processes.

This paper investigates into the making of a rebel slave in Shaukat Osman's novel The Laughter of a Slave through the lens of the subaltern theory. It argues that though a slave is traditionally voiceless, the protagonist of the novel, with his voice of breaking the boundary of subjugation, attempts to show how he also possesses the right to laughter which signifies the dream and yearning for freedom. The research also identifies a scope in the existing Bangla literature to interpret a novel from the subaltern perspective. The research findings highlight how a slave being oppressed in the dichotomy of slavery discovers him empowered with love and for his love he shows a resistance which shatters the so-called domineering tendency of the ruler. Using Third Space theory the article also offers an insight into how a slave's identity can question the identity of a ruler and how he looks for a new identity through the making of a new space.

This essay aims to chart a path between premodern blackface performance and postcolonial theory that escapes colonial teleologies. It analyzes moments from the Abbasid through Mamluk era (ca. 750–1517) popular literary forms—shadow plays, epics, and advice manuals—in which performances of blackness by non-Black people, real and imagined, occur. It argues for the simultaneous historical contingency and interpretative flexibility of these performances, situating them in structures of premodern urban, imperial, and interregional management that distinguish them from modes of blackface performance that ensue from the colonial encounters of the nineteenth century in the Middle East and North Africa. Under their own diverse circumstances, figures in the Islamicate past drew on reservoirs of racialized knowledge and craft in ways that evoke Srinivas Aravamudan's concept of “tropicopolitans,” others at empire's edges that are at once troped and real, parodic and didactic, whose instantiations critique the worlds of which they have been made a part.

This research focuses on the identification of the individuals and societies who were exposed to the disease of judarī individually or collectively during the Umayyad period and the examination of the general characteristics of the disease. Judarī is a contagious skin disease characterised by a purulent swelling on the skin and acute fever. Judarī, which is called smallpox in English, is a disease with different types, some of which can lead to fatal consequences, while others can be cured and overcome. This disease can leave permanent scars on survivors and cause loss of vision. Judarī has affected various societies in the historical process, and has been recorded in texts providing information about the Umayyad period. In these records, eight individuals who were infected with judarī during the Umayyad period were identified and two social cases in which judarī was seen were identified. The identities of the individuals affected by the judarī, how they were affected, and how this disease was seen in which communities and social events are the main subjects of our study. In the context of this subject, the introduction of the article discusses the nature of judarī and what kind of a disease it is. Then, the individuals affected by judarī in the Umayyad period and the social cases of judarī in the Umayyad period were examined under two separate headings, and the data on the cases of judarī in the period were analysed. However, the subject was analysed more comprehensively with the narrations that were thought to be related to the issues discussed. This study, which deals with the effect of judarī in the Umayyad period from various aspects, is important in terms of examining the effects of a contagious skin disease on early Islamic society and revealing its impact on social life. This research aims to determine the effects of the disease on individuals and the consequences societies faced with the disease during the Umayyad period. In this way, it is aimed to shed light on the social history of the Umayyad period and to reveal the medical knowledge of the period. In order to evaluate the effects of the disease on individuals and its consequences in social cases, medical texts written in the Middle Ages and historical records of the Umayyad period were evaluated together. In our study, qualitative research method was adopted and primary and secondary sources from the period were analysed. Through narrative analyses, historical narratives in which the disease is mentioned were evaluated, and care was taken to handle the information in different sources in a comparative manner. In addition, historical interpretation techniques have been used to make a comprehensive evaluation of the effects of judarī on individual and social cases.

يعد نص رسالة الجدل بين الهاشمي والكندي الذي وضعه مؤلف مجهول من القرن الرابع الهجري/ العاشر الميلادي أحد أقدم الكتب العربية التي تُرجمت إلى اللغة اللاتينية بعد القرآن الكريم على الإطلاق، وهو ما جعلها موضع اهتمام اللاهوتيين النصارى والمؤرخين منذ العصور الوسطى إلى يومنا هذا. إلا أن أصالة النص وحقيقة وجود شخصيتي الهاشمي والكندي ظلتا محل خلاف وجدل لم يحُسم رغم غلبة الرأي القائل بأن هذا النص صناعة غير أصيلة. غير أن نقاشات أصحاب هذا الطرح ظلت في معظمها رهينة نص الجدل نفسه، باستثناء استحضار إشارة البيروني النادرة عن هذا العمل أواخر القرن الرابع الهجري.
    لذلك تتبنى هذه الدراسة منهج البحث التاريخي عبر دراسة جذور شخصيتي الهاشمي والكندي من خلال مصادر التراث الإسلامي والنصراني الشرقي - على حد سواء - للوصول إلى إجابة واضحة حول حقيقة وجودهما على أرض الواقع الحقيقي كما يزعم مؤلف نص الجدل، لأن ذلك سيعني بالضرورة الحكم على أصالة هذا النص. وقد خرجت الدراسة بنتيجة مفادها أن الهاشمي شخصية حقيقية ذات مكانة علمية واجتماعية رفيعة لكنه لم يعش في عصر المأمون، بخلاف الكندي الذي يبدو أنه كان شخصية مصطنعة لا تمت إلى الواقع بصلة، وهو ما ينفي أصالة نص الجدل برمته ويجعله في حكم النصوص الموضوعة في النصف الثاني من القرن الرابع الهجري.

Mütenebbî, sanat ve zekâ ile ördüğü özgün anlam dünyası sayesinde Arap şiir tarihinin en çok anılan, belki de en etkili şairlerinden biri olarak kabul edilmektedir. Şairin dil işçiliğindeki mahareti hem klasik şiir geleneğini yaşatması hem de onu dönüştürerek özgün bir edebî şahsiyet inşa etmesi bakımından dikkat çekicidir. Onun edebî kariyerinde zirveye ulaştığı dönem, kuşkusuz Hamdânî Emiri Seyfüddevle’nin sarayında geçirdiği yıllardır. Bu dönemde kaleme aldığı kasideler, geleneksel anlamda birer methiye olmanın ötesine geçerek şairin kişiliğini, dünya görüşünü ve sanatsal üslubunu ortaya koyan metinler hâline gelmiştir. Ancak bu parlak döneminin ardından Mütenebbî, siyasi ve şahsi nedenlerle Halep’ten ayrılarak Mısır’da Kâfûr el-İhşîdî’nin himayesine girmiştir. Mısır dönemine ait şiirlerinde şairin derin bir iç gerilimle boğuştuğu görülmektedir. Kâfûr’a yazdığı methiyeler, dış görünüşte övgü içerse de satır aralarında sitem, hayal kırıklığı ve alaycı bir tonda ima edilen iğnelemeler barındırmaktadır. Bu nedenle, söz konusu şiirler samimiyet açısından tartışmalı kabul edilmekte; ancak edebî sanat düzeyi bakımından önceki dönem kasideleriyle aynı estetik düzeyi koruduğu da gözlemlenmektedir. Mütenebbî’nin Kâfûr dönemine ait şiirleri üzerine yapılan çeşitli çalışmalar bulunsa da bu döneme ait Uğâlibu fîke’ş-Şevka kasidesinin edebî tahliline odaklanan müstakil ve tematik açıdan derinlikli bir çalışmanın eksikliği dikkat çekmektedir. Oysa bu kaside, Mütenebbî’nin Kâfûr’a yönelik şiirsel söylemi içinde önemli bir yer tutmakta; içerdiği sanatsal ve düşünsel unsurlar bakımından kapsamlı bir çözümlemeyi hak etmektedir. Bu makale, adı geçen boşluğu doldurma amacıyla kaleme alınmış; kasideyi tema, retorik yapı ve şiirsel sanatlar açısından çok yönlü biçimde ele almıştır. Çalışmada öncelikle kasidenin temel motifleri, anlam katmanları ve klasik Arap edebiyatındaki konumu analiz edilmiştir. Mütenebbî’nin söz konusu metindeki dil ve üslup tercihleri istiare ve teşbih gibi beyân sanatlarıyla birlikte değerlendirilmiş; ayrıca kasr, takdim-te’hîr, hazf-zikr, marifelik-nekrelik gibi meânî ilmine dair yapılar üzerinden şiirin söylem derinliği çözümlenmiştir. Bu yönüyle çalışma, şiirin yüzeydeki estetik yapısının ötesine geçerek, söylem arkasındaki psikolojik, sosyal ve siyasal bağlamlara da dikkat çekmektedir. Kaside, aynı zamanda hikemî boyutuyla da öne çıkmaktadır. Şairin birey-toplum ilişkisine, dostluk ve düşmanlığa, samimiyet, haset ve dünyevî hırslara dair yaptığı özlü tespitler; onun gözlem gücünü, içsel derinliğini ve edebî ustalığını yansıtmaktadır. Bu yönüyle kaside, klasik Arap şiirinin tematik zenginliğini ve Mütenebbî’nin şiirindeki entelektüel derinliği ortaya koyan çarpıcı ve örnek bir metin olarak değerlendirilmektedir.

Bu çalışma, Abbasî dönemi Arap şiirinde görülen sosyo-kültürel yabancılaşma konusunu, her biri farklı bir boyutta ele alan Ebu'l-‘Ebü’l-‘Atâhiyye,
İbnü’r-Rûmî ve Mütenebbî’nin şiirleri üzerinden ele almaktadır. Araştırma;
Ebu’l-‘Atahiyye’nin, psikolojik yabancılaşmayı ifade eden tefekkür ve mürtedilik unsurlarını taşıyan beyitleri, İbnü’r-Rûmî, çoğunlukla siyasi yabancılaşmayı dile getiren toplumsal şiirleri ile ahlaki yozlaşmanın bir yansıması olarak Mütenebbî'nin şiirlerini farklı boyutları ile ortaya koymaktadır. Çalışmada, seçilen şiirler titizlikle incelenmiş, ele alınan şairlerin hayatları ile bulundukları sosyo-kültürel çevre karşılaştırmalı olarak analiz edilmiş ve bilim
edebiyat ve kültürel açıdan doruk noktasında olan bu dönemde sosyokültürel yabancılaşma ele alınmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında; toplumsal bağların, ahlaki felsefenin ve ağıt gibi unsurların şiirdeki yansımaları ele alınmış,
Abbasî dönemde sosyo-kültürel yabancılaşmanın edebiyat üzerindeki önemi
vurgulanmıştır. Makalenin temel amaçlarından biri de her bir şairin ele alınan
konuya yönelik özgün yaklaşımının, insan faktörü üzerindeki katkılarını ortaya çıkararak klasik Arap şiiri bağlamında bilgi birikimini zenginleştirmektir.
Çalışma metot olarak; edebi eleştiri ile tarihsel yaklaşımı harmanlayan nitel
bir analiz yöntemine dayanmakta olup şairlerin bulundukları çevre ve kullandıkları dilin ışığında sağlam temellere dayalı yorumlar sunmaktadır.

Translator is always between the two horns of the dilemma: he needs to make balance between preserving accuracy of meaning, function and style of Source Language (SL) and maintaining acceptability of the translated text with all its potentials in the Target Language (TL) which, sometimes, makes translation so difficult, if not impossible. This study investigated the quality of the translation of the constitution of the Republic of Yemen through House's revised model (2015). This model was found within Hallidayan components of discourse and functions that received acceptability and was used as one of the most common qualitative tools of Translation Quality Assessment (TQM) (El-Farahaty, 2015; Sarcevic, 1997; Varmazyari et al., 2016). The model depends on a three-layer scheme of analysis: lexical, syntactic, and textual. Then, based on the previous analysis, the study compared these discursive components in the target text (English version) to their equivalent in the source text (Arabic version). The study concluded that the translator, partially, succeeded in transferring the potential meaning from Arabic into the English, whereas he, in some other parts of the target text, fell short to render the source text satisfactorily based on House's model (2015) which was appropriate for providing a qualitative account for the translation of the constitution of the Republic of Yemen.

The era of the Samanid reign is regarded as the “golden
age” of Eastern history by historians. Various issues related to
this period have been thoroughly analyzed by scholars, and
valuable works have been published on the subject. However,
the historical geography of the Samanid Empire has not yet
been studied in depth. Given the existing information from
historical sources and recent successful research, it is essential
to conduct a more detailed analysis of the historical geography
of the Samanid Empire and clarify its internal and external
borders during different periods of its existence.

Bu çalışma, Ahmet Hamdi Akseki Camii'nin mimarisini ve süsleme programını eklektik bir yaklaşımla değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Geleneksel Türk-İslam mimarisi ile modern mimarlığın birleştirildiği bu cami, Osmanlı ve Selçuklu motiflerini modern malzeme ve tekniklerle yorumlamış, ancak estetik uyumda zaman zaman eksiklikler gözlemlenmiştir. Çalışmada caminin plan düzeni, yapı elemanları, malzeme ve tekniği ile süsleme unsurları ele alınmış, geçmişe referans veren detayların modern bir bağlamda nasıl uygulandığı incelenmiştir. Yöntem olarak literatür taraması ve yapı incelemesi temel alınmıştır. Çalışmanın sonuçları, caminin modern ihtiyaçlara uygun olarak geniş ve ferah bir mekân sunmasına rağmen, geleneksel ve modern unsurlar arasında güçlü bir sentez oluşturamadığını ortaya koymaktadır. Özellikle celi sülüs hat yazıları, yıldız motifleri ve mermer mihrap gibi detaylar, yapının geleneksel estetik değerlerini güçlü bir şekilde yansıtırken, tasarımda modern dokunuşların daha yaratıcı şekilde entegre edilmesi gerektiği vurgulanmıştır. Ahmet Hamdi Akseki Camii, geleneksel ve modern mimarlığın kesişim noktasında önemli bir örnek olup, cami mimarisindeki eklektik yaklaşıma dair özgün bir inceleme sunmaktadır.

İki hükümetin politik ve askeri ilişkilerini yazılı ve nümismatik kaynakları temel alarak incelemektedir. Hârezmşâhlar, 205-259/821-873 seneleri arasında Tâhirîlerin vassalı kabul edilmişlerdir. Sikkelerde Tâhirî amirlerinin adlarını zikretmiş ve onlara vergi ödemişlerdir. Tâhirîlerin iktidardan devrildiği 259/873 senesinden itibaren Horasan Saffârîler, Tâhirî komutanları ve yerel savaş ağaları arasında güç ve otorite mücadelelerine tanıklık etmiştir. Bu süreçte Hârezm, 272/885 senesine kadar Tâhirîleri desteklemiştir. Tâhirîlerin son temsilcisi Râfi‘ b. Herseme’nin Hârezm’deki siyasi haklarını 272/885 yılından sonra Sâmânî Emiri İsmâîl b. Ahmed’e devretmesi üzerine Hârezm’in Tâhirîler ile ilişkileri sona ermiştir. Makalede Râfi‘ b. Herseme’nin 283/896 yılında Hârezm’de öldürülmesi olayı da sorgulanmaktadır.

This paper explores the geopolitical and geo-ecclesiastical intersections in the Diyār Rabīʿa between the Second and Fourth fitnas (743–833 CE). It analyzes tribal groupings, emirate formations, and bishopric distribution by crossing Syriac and Islamic sources and archaeology. Indeed, regional political dynamics—from Qaysī Syria-Qinnasrīn to Osrhoene-D. Muḍar, to B. ʿArbāyē-D. Rabīʿa, and to Azdī Adiabene-Mosul—matches divisions in the Miaphysite monastic networks (Gūbbā, Qenneshrē, Qarṭmīn, and Mār Mattay).
Eighth century CE saw a surge in Miaphysite monastic attestations, linked to ag-ricultural expansion and recorded in Christian and Islamic chronographies, hagi-ographies, and poetry (B. ʿUrbē, Ḥaṣṣīṣā, B. Asē, Kuḥayl, Libbā, Apamryā, Ēqrūntā, the Iram Valley, Knūshyō of Sinjār, St. Sergius of Qnōyē, St. Sergius of Ṭūr Ṣahyo, Tunaynir…). Simultaneously, clan competition—especially within and around the Banū Taghlib—intensified, shaping both the subregional emiral landscape and Ibn al-Kalbī’s tribal ordering.
Distinguished from the broader Maʿadd group in the 770s Chronicle of Zuqnīn, the “Taglibōyē” rapidly emerged in legal literature as a paradigmatic Christian Arabs while receiving dozen of bishops following decades, from select regional monasteries in the triangle between the Caliphal-Patriarcal capital of Raqqa-Rāfiqa, provincial head-quarter of Mosul, and the Miaphysite metropolis of Takrīt. Muslim and Christian sources reveal that tribal leaders often interacted near or even inside these monastery locations. Moreover, an underestimate Syriac chronicle preserves a lost Arabic unique detailed testimony about tribal conflicts during the 810s–820s (190s–200s AH), the Khābūr–Sinjār–Tigris region.
Within this framework, the nearly extinct Christian Tanūkh in the Syrian Church, as well as the partly surviving Christian Taghlib in the Takrītan/Mosulan Metropolis ap-pear as the only tribal groups to have maintained both autonomous principalities and tribal bishoprics. Their prominence is especially significant in the broader ‘tribalisation’ process of the late 2nd century AH (780s–830s), which contributed to the eventual emergence of the Nizārite vs. Yamanite coalitional dichotomy.

ÖZET Tarihi boyunca farklı coğrafyalarda bazen yöneten bazen de yönetilen olarak varlığını bugüne kadar sürdürmüş olan Müslümanlar, bir ortak yaşam geleneğine sahiptir, denilebilir. Bunda İslâm medeniyetinin siyaset/idare anlayışı ve bu doğrultuda tesis etmiş olduğu siyaset kurumları ve siyasete ait literatürün etkisi inkâr edilemez. Kur'an ve sünneti temel referans noktası kabul eden Müslüman siyasetçi/idareci ve teorisyenleri zaman içinde güncel gelişme, yenilik ve sorunlara kayıtsız kalmamış, siyaset/idare bağlamında teorik ve pratik birçok değişim ve gelişmeler kaydetmişlerdir. Klasik İslâm siyasetine yönelik sözü edilen özelliklerin bilinmesi bugün birçok sorunla boğuşan Müslümanlar için önem arz edebilir. Bu yüzden bu makalede klasik İslâm siyaset kurumu ve onu meydana getiren önemli alt kurumlardan hilafet ve vezaret kurumları ile klasik İslâm siyasetine ait bazı özellik, kavram ve eserler önemli özellikleri ile kısaca ele alınmıştır.

The interpretation of dreams has always been of interest to societies, especially rulers, in various historical periods in order to predict events and providing information about the fate of people. Among Muslims, dreams and their interpretation are considered a divine science that can have a significant impact on the individual, social, and political life of societies. One of the periods in which Muslim rulers paid attention to dream narration and interpretation is the era of the Three Caliphs. By examining and analyzing the content of dreams narrated by the first caliphs of Islam, an attempt is made to show that these dreams were narrated by the apparatus of power with specific aims and motives. On this basis, the main question is how and with what themes the institution of power used dreams to legitimise the discourse of the caliphate, especially in the political and religious spheres. The dream was narrated by religious leaders, especially the Messenger of Allah, about caliphs or their relatives, with themes such as the resemblance of the new rulers of Islamic society to the Prophet, justification of their actions and their approval by the Prophet, gaining the support of the people, etc., with the aim of the justifying the political legitimacy of the caliphs and promoting their legitimacy. The central signifier of the dreams pursues political goals in an attempt to establish the legal status of the caliphs as the rightful successors of the prophet in the public. The method of this research is descriptive-analytical and uses a library method of data collection.

Tuğrulbek, one of the commanders of the Turkish soldiers, is considered the founder of the Seljuk dynasty. In 429 AH/1037 AD he captured the city of Marw and sermoned on its pulpit. He is called the King of Kings. In 432 AH/1040 AD, he seized Nishapur, Gorgan, Tabaristan, Kerman, and the land of the Daylam. Further, on the 25 th . of Ramadan year 447 AH / 1055 AD, he entered Baghdad with the vizier, the dean of King Abu Nasr Muhammad ibn Mansour al-Alexandri, the first minister of the Seljuks. Tughrulbek continued many conquests until he died at the age of seventy on the eighth of the blessed month of Ramadan in 455 AH/1063 AD. In this paper which adopts the analytical approach, the Seljuk dinar that struck Deraur is studied and published for the first time in terms of the general shape, inscriptions, and decorations inscribed on it. The Dinar is preserved in the collection of Mr. Mohammed Al-Jaber in the State of Qatar. It is a new addition to the Seljuk coins in particular and Islamic Numismatics in general.

This article explores the concept and origins of the Islamic Iqṭāʿ system, a land grant and economic structure unique to the Islamic world, distinguishing it from the European feudal system. It highlights the scarcity of focused studies on Iqṭāʿ, especially from an Islamic jurisprudential perspective, and reviews key historical sources such as Lisān al-'Arab, Mu'allimat al-Maghrib, and works by jurists like Abū Yūsuf and Al-Khwarizmi. The study traces the development of Iqṭāʿ from its early Islamic foundations, emphasizing its religious basis and legal framework, and contrasts it with pre-Islamic communal and slave-based land systems, as well as European feudalism. The article also discusses the system's evolution in different Islamic regions, its role in socio-political contexts, and its transformation under later dynasties. Finally, it reflects on the complex relationship between Iqṭāʿ and Islamic societal development, as well as scholarly interpretations of its economic and social implications.

This article examines 'Abdíshô''s treatment of marriage law in his two legal works, with particular attention to the sources he relied on and the ultimate goal of evaluating 'Abdíshô''s engagement with his multi-religious environment. An overview of 'Abdíshô''s writings on marriage law establishes that his own East Syrian legal tradition provided the bulk of his source materials -in contrast to Bar 'Ebroyo, with whom 'Abdíshô' is often compared and who made liberal use of the Islamic legal works of Abû Üâmid al-Øazâlí in his writings on Christian marriage. In a few instances, however, 'Abdíshô' did reach beyond his own tradition to incorporate materials from other churches, including the Copto-Arabic legal writings of Ibn al-'Assâl and the Syriac ones of Bar 'Ebroyo; while scholars have noted 'Abdíshô''s reliance on the former, his dependence on the latter has yet to be investigated. The influence of Islamic law, by contrast, appears only faintly in 'Abdíshô''s writings on marriage law; but at one significant point he exhibits an awareness of Islamic doctrine, which he explicitly rejects. In this respect, a subtle tension in 'Abdísho''s writings on marriage law bears witness to the multi-religious environment of his time: That environment provided materials that 'Abdíshô' both appropriated and actively rejected, materials he could use both as productive elements to add to his East Syrian tradition and as foils against which to define that tradition.

The villages of the southernmost reaches of the Fayyum Oasis are well known to Arabic papyrologists, and the sizeable number of documents they have produced enable ongoing study of the social and economic history of the region in the Tulunid, Ikhshidid, and Fatimid periods (third-sixth/ninth-twelfth centuries). Certain of the southern Fayyum's settlements and social groups remain much better documented than others, which makes the document presented here especially noteworthy. Housed in the Michaelides collection of Arabic documents at Cambridge University Library, ( 1 ) this 5th/11th-century parchment contract is the first known deed of sale related directly to the village of Ṭalīt, an important locale still only scantily attested in the documentary record. We find two further unique features in the identity of the parties involved in the document and its late date. Four of the individuals named in the document bear the entirely unexpected nisba al-Šāfi῾ī-an Arabic onomastic element that usually denotes belonging to the Šāfi῾ī school of Islamic law, and is otherwise unattested in documents from the rural Fayyum before the spread of the madrasa under the Ayyubids and Mamluks. These surprising Šāfi῾īs appear in a contract, moreover, that was drafted during a great fifth/eleventh-century political, social, and environmental crisis, after which we have exceedingly little documentation from the previously vibrant villages of the Fayyum's southern tier. The following presents an edition and translation of this unique contract and a study of its most notable features. I review first the available information on ancient and medieval Ṭalīt and consider whether the present document might have been discovered there or elsewhere. I then take up what the document can tell us of the village's social history. The original description of the object of sale is lost to a lacuna, but comparative study allows us to affirm that the contract concerned a conveyance of guardianship rights-that is, of the right to collect payment from residents or owners of some portion of Ṭalīt's territory in return for guaranteeing security. The institution of guardianship is well known from contemporary Fayyum documents, but in this case the identities of the individuals involved, all of whom are identified either as Šāfi῾īs or as members of the Arab tribe of Banū ῾Āmir, are noteworthy. The ῾Āmirīs are familiar from other documents; the Šāfi῾īs are not. Sanat ve tasarım alanında sanatçılar, günümüze kadar
Türk mitlerini eserlerinde kullanmışlardır. En önemli Türk
destanlarından biri “Oğuz Kağan Destanı”dır. Mete Han, İlk Büyük
Hun İmparatorudur. Türklerin ilk büyük hakanı olan Mete Han’ın
İslamiyet’ten önce ve sonra adına destanlar yazılmıştır. Destanlarda
adı “Oğuz” olarak geçmektedir. Oğuz, “ok eri” anlamında
kullanılmaktadır. Mete Han, ıslık çalan oku ile askerlerini eğittiği
için bu isimle anılmaktadır. Uygurlara ait Oğuz Destanında; Oğuz
Han’ın yerde bir ağaç kovuğunda karşılaştığı eşinden “Gök, Dağ,
Deniz” isimli üç oğlu olduğu belirtilir. Yine gökten bir ışık ile
karşına çıkan eşinden “Gün, Ay, Yıldız” isimli üç oğlu olur. Yer
ve gök, Çin kültüründeki Yin ile Yang’ın Türkçedeki karşılığıdır.
Gök, Tanrının, yer ise Toprak Ananın sembolüdür. Türk tarihinde
büyük devletler kuran hükümdarlar Kayı ve Kınık gibi 24 Oğuz
boyundan gelmiştir. Gün Han’dan; Kayı, Bayat, Alka-Evli, Kara-
Evli, Ay Han’dan; Yazır, Döğer, Dodurga, Yaparlı, Yıldız Han’dan;
Avşar, Kızık, Bedgili, Karkın, Gök Han’dan; Bayındır, Becene,
Çavuldur, Çepni, Dağ Han’dan; Salur, Eymür, Ala Yontlı, Üregir,
Deniz Han’dan; İğdir, Bügdüz, Yıva, Kınık boyu türemiştir. Bu
boyların her birini bir doğan kuşu temsil etmektedir. Bu araştırma,
betimsel analiz yöntemi kullanılarak yürütülecektir. Araştırma
kapsamında boylar hakkında edinilen bilgiler minvalinde yapay
zekâ araçları ile temsili boy sembolleri üretilecektir. Oluşturulan
bu temsili görsellerin gelecekte logo tasarımı, resim, illüstrasyon, takı tasarımı gibi sanat ve tasarım alanında çeşitli çalışmalarda
kullanımının yaygınlaşması amaçlanmaktadır.

The thirteenth installment of Neveštegān examines several rare terms found in classical texts, addressing and correcting misinterpretations or misreadings by scholars. These include: “puxta” or “burīda” in a work by Hakim Tirmidhi; “kw” in the invocation “wʾrnmʾn kw” as recorded in Šaṭḥiyyāt al-Ṣūfiyya and Dastūr al-J̌umḥūr; “btʾrh” in Khwaja Abdullah Ansari’s translation-commentary; “badeyārpūš(?)” in Nāma-yi Salāṭin; and “zabāndān” or “zabāndār” in Rasûlid Hexaglot. The article concludes with two brief notes that supplement discussions from previous issues of the series.
