Phonetic realisation does not absolutely determine whether syntactic structure exists. Certain constructions might lack overt syntax, but once thoroughly examined, show telltale signs of silent syntactic structure. Copular constructions in Malay are certainly one of such constructions as subjects and complements in nonverbal predication are not mediated by a copula; therefore, by Occam’s razor, the simplest analysis would be that there is no structure between the two constituents. This study examines copular clauses in Malay and attempts to substantiate the claim that there is more syntactic structure than meets the eye (or ear) through the use of certain diagnostic tests such as the use of adverbials and auxiliaries, to detect the presence of inflectional and verbal projections. It is found that copular clauses possess both inflectional and verbal layers as it is possible for certain auxiliaries and adverbials to occur in copular clauses in Malay.

Typology study of Ciacia language (CL) in various linguistic aspects has not been conducted yet. It is the first study that focus on syntactic typology. Ciacia language is one of local languages in Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The study focuses on five main problems, they are (1) How is the base construction of verbal clause in CL? The aim of this research is to describe the adverbial clause marking strategy in Balinese. The data sources of this reasearch are narrative texts in weekly Balinese Newspaper, Bali Orti, and several short stories which are written in Balinese. Each semantic function has at least two different markers, one is for a low register and the other one for a high register. The result showed that adverbial clauses in Balinese can be classified into eleven semantic functions. Each of those semantic functions at least has two different markers for the same semantic function.

This paper compares the simple clause structure in three languages of Kyerepong (Okere), Akuapem Twi and English. Again, the paper discusses how the structures mark focus and topic; and how they are used in copula and locative constructions. The paper comprises seven main parts. The first part gives a brief linguistic background of the two Ghanaian languages. The second part looks at the constituent order of the three languages; and the third considers the phonological processes involved. The remaining parts (which constitute the hub of the paper) focus on how the simple clause in these three languages is used in focus, topic, copula and locative constructions.

This study discussedd the behavior of syntactic arguments in the Malay Language Dialect Panai (MLDP) subordinate clause structure using the syntactic typology approach. The purpose of this study was to determine the subordinate clause function in the MLDP sentence and describe whether based on its subordinate clause, the MLDP is classified as Accusative or Ergative. The data collection technique is used by referring, recording, and recording techniques. Data analyzed was oral data obtained from in formants, namely sentences in which there were subordinate clauses. The results of this study indicated that (1) the subordinate clause in MLDP functions as a subject, predicate, object, complement, and description; (2). MLDP was classified into ergative and accusative language typology.

This research is to describe (1) linguistic typology, (2) phrase structures, (3) clause and sentence structures of Merap language. The analyses on the problems apply Principles & Parameters approach to come to the findings. Historical generative method was applied to verify the linguistic typology of Merap and Parameters and Principles of Haegeman’s Government and Binding Theories were applied to describe phrase structures, clause, and sentence structures of Merap. Based on the analyses, the research formulated some findings. First, Merap language is a sub-Kayanic language. This paper is tries to contrast the Syntactic structures between Arabic and Malay. The paper starts with introduction about contrastive study, then descriptive study for some aspects related to syntax of Malay and Arabic, as word-order, noun phrase, passive voice, object, and sentence, then followed by syntax of Arabic as well. Arabic structures were studied, the subject of nominal sentence and verbal sentence are described as well as Malay. Balinese-Malay language found today; called as base karang ni is a legacy of the previous Malay called base lame 'old Balinese-Malay'. It is spoken by the Malay community of West and East Loloan Village, Jembrana, Negara, Bali. Since 17 th century this language has developed and has gone through various dynamics of retention and innovation. The problems of the research were about how the basic sentence system; dynamics of morphological and syntantic elements of productive prefixes and relatively labile sentences; and dynamics of phonological elements in Balinese-Malay language sentences were. Generative theories and explanatory descriptive method through the speech analyzer program were applied in the research. The results of this study showed that the use of some lexicons such as tanak 'to cook', can be attached by prefix me-, as in metanak in Balinese-Malay. The construction appears to be similar in bahasa Indonesia, aside from the /t/ which is apparently not dropped. In terms of its system, prefix me-is equal to prefix ber-in Indonesian, and prefix ŋ-is equal to me-. Historically, the difference between old Balinese-Malay with the modern ones can be seen from the softening of /h/ in the final position of seh. The duration of old Balinese-Malay was also found longer than the modern one and the East dialect was longer than the West. It was proved that the East Loloan is the area of the origin Balinese-Malay in Bali; meanwhile West Loloan is the development area.

English and Indonesian sentences realize their predicates by using different kinds of syntactic categories and therefore pose difficulties to Young Learners of English. This is a contrastive study done by observation as well as analytical analysis of simple sentences in both languages. The result of this research shows that both English and Indonesian sentences employ verbs as their predicates. However, in addition to verbs, Indonesian sentences also use other kinds of syntactic categories such as nouns, adjectives, etc. to be the predicates of sentences. These main differences of English and Indonesian systems have to be underlined in teaching and learning process of English to Young Learners in order to avoid grammatical mistakes.
