RFID BASED AUTOMATIC BUS TICKITING SYSTEM

2022, IRJET

Abstract

This paper presents an automatic bus ticketing system using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Controller Area Network (CAN) bus technology. The system is intended to replace the traditional human-oriented ticketing system. It gives the solution to problems occurred in traditional systems as well as saves passengers ticketing time. The system uses an RFID card for passenger identification and uses the same for fare payment corresponding to the distance traveled. This system has an RFID reader module installed in a transport vehicle which is mainly used to verify the passenger, a central control unit used to monitor things like account balance, tickets charge, etc. The system involves a distance measuring unit which uses the GPS or vehicle's odometer/trip meter to detect the location of the bus, boarding place and alighting place of the passenger to estimate distance. Users needs to scan their card in front of the RFID reader which sends the data of that card to the central unit for further processing. In case the vehicle is traveling in an area that can't gain access to the satellite i.e. if GPS is not giving proper location then the distance is calculated by an odometer.

AI

What advantages does an RFID-based system have over traditional ticketing systems?add

The study reveals that RFID-based systems eliminate the need for human conductors and significantly reduce ticketing time by automating fare collection. Specifically, passengers no longer need to carry paper tickets, thus minimizing waste.

How does the RFID card facilitate the fare calculation process?add

The implementation includes RFID technology that automatically computes fares based on distance traveled by tracking entry and exit points. This automation reduces errors and enhances transparency in fare deductions.

What technological components are integrated into the bus fare collection system?add

The system incorporates RFID modules, GPS technology, and CAN bus communication to synchronize data across various units. For instance, the GPS module calculates the traveling distance, which is essential for fare computation.

How does passenger data is managed in this automated system?add

Passenger data, including name and balance, is stored and managed within a Central Control Unit (CCU) linked to RFID readers. The CCU processes this data to validate entries and exits, ensuring fare accuracy.

What is the significance of using reusable RFID cards?add

Reusable RFID cards enhance convenience, allowing passengers to avoid repetitive purchases and reducing paper waste. Additionally, they can be loaded with larger amounts of money, decreasing the need for cash transactions.
