RFID Based Bus Tracking System

Public utility buses are the most commonly used vehicle in a long distance journey passing through provincial and national roads. Problems in bus transactions are being encountered. Usually, the passengers do not have exact amount in paying bus fares and the conductors " method of collection is time-consuming. This project study focuses on the use of available technologies, such as RFID and Android. These are the tools used by the proponents to develop an improved system of bus fare transactions. This system includes an electronic card, which will be used by the passenger to pay for their fares, an RFID reader will also be used to accumulate and to store the information from the card, and an Android operated device, which will process each transaction. This system will be connected via Bluetooth. The software is linked to the hardware as well. The proponents conducted series of tests and concluded that the proposed system is much faster than the existing methods. It is verified as well that it is more capable of performing necessary actions in accumulating bus fares.

This work aims at designing a student monitoring system which could effectively manage presence of students at school buses. Student's presence is marked after each student's identification. For the identification of student, a RFID based system is used. RFID method is considered to be the best and fastest method for identification. So, the framework is developed for managing the student's attendance. RFID reader is placed in the school bus, hence whenever the student boards into the bus, the students have to place their RFID tag to indicate the presence of arrival and departure. This RFID reader takes attendance electronically, and the records of the attendance are sent digitally to the school database. The database in turn generates a text message and sends it to the corresponding parents indicating the safer departure and arrival time of their children.

In present time due to increase in number of kidnapping and road accident cases, parents always worry about their children. This paper proposed the RFID based Bus detection system to help people in travelling from one place to another. Generally, journey in a bus is a safe and comfort zone but navigation in outdoor environments is highly difficult for those who have ingrained blindness or blindness from a very young age. Therefore, this paper plans to develop a bus detection prototype using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) . Interfacing reader with microcontroller (ATMEGA328-PU), using wifi module for wireless communication design aids in improved navigation.

The Internet of things (IoT) as a paradigm promises to make things including consumer electronic devices or home appliances such as medical devices, fridges, cameras, and sensors part of the internet environment. Within this paper, the design of an IoT-based solution of smart school bus monitoring that provides SMS notification in real-time has been proposed together with its prototype development. The school bus is a means of transportation that is very attractive to students because it is free. This study aims to develope an application that can track school bus trips and provide information about bus passengers. Bus location information sent to the user application can help students estimate the arrival time of the school bus at the pickup point. In addition, information on the identity of school bus passengers can be used by parents to monitor the whereabouts of their children going to or from school on the bus. This application uses the global positioning system (GPS) of the smartphone on the school bus to find out the location of the bus and send it along with passenger identification information to the user application. To read passenger identities, near field communication (NFC) cards are used as passenger identity cards by tapping them on a smartphone on a school bus. Tests have been carried out on all functions of the application features and testing the accuracy of location reading and tracking of school bus trips, obtained latitude and longitude tolerance values of about 3.2 meters.

Fortunately, the catch fast app for Android makes texting possible even when you're not available for texting. Our project 'FAST-CATCH' is a GPS based android application which helps the user to locate the vehicle by sending just an SMS. The application tracks the current location of the user through the Google maps API and it provides this location to the message sender, sender can use this location to find out where the vehicle is even though he is not using any internet connection. This projects overall gives the easier tool for finding out where is the position of the vehicle if he wants to catch it even if he is not carrying up a phone which is just capable of sending a message (SMS). It saves time and money. Texting has become a common and very popular method of communicating with friends. Shooting off a quick text is much quicker and easier than calling, and it's possible to text while distracted by other tasks.

This paper proposes and implements a solution for enhancing public transportation management services based on GPS and GSM in Punjab province of Pakistan. The system consists of four modules: BUS Station Module, In-BUS Module, BASE Station Module and BUS Stop Module. Equipped with PC and GSM modem, BUS Station Module sends the initialization information containing the bus number and license plate number to In-BUS Module and BASE Station Module using SMS. The microcontroller based In-BUS Module consisting mainly of a GPS receiver and GSM modem then starts transmitting its location and number of passengers to BASE Station Module. BASE Station Module equipped with a microcontroller unit and GSM modems interfaced to PCs is designed to keep track record of every bus, processes user request about a particular bus location out of BUS Station and updates buses location on bus stops. BUS Stop Module is installed at every bus stop and consists of a GSM modem, memory unit and dot matrix display all interfaced to a microcontroller. This module receives buses location information coming towards that stop from BASE Station module and displays the information on a dot matrix display. A per stop statistical analysis is carried out based on the number of passengers and a recommendation report along with this analysis is sent to Punjab Government Transportation Department to have a check on the performance and services offered by transporters to common people. The results have shown that the developed system is useful for facilitating people using public transportation services.

Bus tracking is an application that tracks a bus and gathers the distance to each station along its route. Tracking System involves the installation of an electronic device in a bus, with an installed Android App on any SMART phone to enable the Administrator/User to track the bus location. Based on IoT this project is implemented as android application. There are two applications one for server and the other for the client. Buses carry GPS devices to track their positions. By this positions to server are periodically updated. Client application displays map showing the position of bus. It shows where buses are on a map and provide students and staffs the updated information at different time interval using RTC. The server will monitor location and will store its data in the database. It is a real-time system as this method automatically sends the information on the GPS system to a system/SMART phone. The students/staffs can get flexibility of planning travel using the app, to decide when to catch the bus. Arduino UNO microcontroller is used to programming for software and hardware module. And it is connected to the cloud and following through the android app. The waiting time of the user can be reduced. Simple mode of communication is the key feature of the Bus Tracking system. This application can be easily extended for central tracking system to keep track of all the buses. The different queries and efficient route management can be easily done through central server system.

In this paper we present bus a system which kept stationary at the bus-stand and system which kept at bus that can effectively help the public to participate in bus transportation facilities to its fullest. A bus that is coming toward the bus –stand is identified by this passenger infotainment system and the details of that particular bus is provided to the passenger on display at bus-stand. Bus location identified using GPS & same will be announce in Bus This information send to next bus stand for passengers. The bus identification process involves usage of Radio Frequency technology and bus details are announced by Voice and displayed in Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) unit.
