Abstract

Currently, online test systems have adapted easily to today's technologically advanced world. Examinations are an intrinsic part of the educational process. The evaluations are conducted by teachers manually, regardless of the fact that the tests are conducted online. Our examinations can be classified into two main types of evaluation, namely, objective answer evaluation and subjective answer evaluation. As of now, online answer evaluation is available for the objective questions, hence the manual assessment of the theory answer is a tedious task for the teacher. The teacher checks the answer manually and gives the marks. In this paper, the literature survey of existing solution is analyzed.

One of the biggest challenges of online teaching is student evaluation. With the students not being physically present, assessing their level of knowledge on a subject presents different challenges than those tradionally encountered in face-to-face teaching. In this paper we present an overview of different evaluation systems and reflect about its advantages and disadvantages when applying them in online environments.The most common evaluation systems: multiple-choice quizzes, open question exams, essays, projects and oral exams, are ranked depending on several criteria. Criteria include items that any professor should take into consideration such as easiness of design and preparation or difficulty of student cheating. SURVEY ON ONLINE EXAMINATION SYSTEM USING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Online Examination System, is an application built to modernize the examination process that has been a major challenge, especially during the covid pandemic. Remote proctoring is the trending technology in the era of social distancing. For a couple of years, e-learning has become famous as a result of its adaptability and simple client intelligence. All things considered, the significant danger looked at by the examination local area is the delegating procedures utilized. We have utilized equipment, for example, a web camera to catch sound and video alongside dynamic window catch. This blend shapes the contributions to a clever decide-based surmising framework that can conclude whether any misbehaviors have occurred. The software will be able to successfully conduct the exam virtually without the physical presence of an instructor. In education, the use of electronic (E) examination systems is not a novel idea, as E-examination systems have been used to conduct objective assessments for the last few years. This research deals with randomly designed E-examinations and proposes an E-assessment system that can be used for subjective questions. This system assesses answers to subjective questions by finding a matching ratio for the keywords in instructor and student answers. The matching ratio is achieved based on semantic and document similarity. The assessment system is composed of four modules: preprocessing, keyword expansion, matching, and grading. A survey and case study were used in the research design to validate the proposed system. The examination assessment system will help instructors to save time, costs, and resources, while increasing efficiency and improving the productivity of exam setting and assessments.

The aim of this study is to introduce a module, organizing question banks and producing examination forms using the question banks, which can also be integrated into different e-learning systems. This online examination system, OnEx, creates question banks according to knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation taxonomy and it gives the chance to prepare question types which are open-ended, short-answer, multiple-choice, true-false, or matching. OnEx, reports the detailed information about the learning levels and at which learning level the students are successful or not following the examinations. With the help of this reporting system, it is possible that the students will be able to take the proper support from the experts during the learning period.

Designing and Implementing an Adaptive Online Examination System

A design and application of adaptive online exam system are carried out in this paper. Adaptive exam systems determine different question sets automatically and interactively for each student and measure their competence on a certain area of discipline instead of comparing their gains with each other. Through an adaptive exam technique, a student's distraction and motivation loss that is led by the questions with quite lower hardness level than his/her competency is prevented. In addition, negative effects of questions requiring higher knowledge than his/her competency over a student's self confidence and morale are dismissed. Since questions are specialized so that they can allow making clear deductions about student gains, they are able to detect student competencies more effectively. Requiring less total time for measuring and being more flexible in the exam management are among the advantages provided by the system. Self sufficiency of the system in terms of planning, repeating and assessment of the measurement process especially allows itself to be used in the individual education sets. Through this system, student competencies can be determined more effectively in cases such as distant-learning, in which some challenges are experienced frequently.

The study is an online, computer aided tool that was designed primarily for the conduct of online examination. The system was created using PHP, a web based scripting language, and MySQL as the database software. The system focuses on the automation of students' examinations; preparation, scheduling, checking and grading. A database is provided for the storage of exam questions, answers to questions and students' records. The system allows instructors to create an exam by entering questions with its corresponding answers into the database. Instructors are provided with three options on the type of exam; these include, True or False, Multiple Choice and Fill in the Blanks. There are three account types based on the intended users. One is the Administrator Account; this can be used to create instructor accounts. It can also be used to delete or suspend other accounts based on activity status. The Instructor Account allows teachers to create student accounts and enroll the same. This account can be used also to create, activate, edit, delete exams and monitor students' performances. The Student Account is for the officially enrolled students where they can take exams and view scores even from previous examinations. This software allows instructors to keep track of students' performances from all exams since the results will be stored in a database linked to an online system. While taking the online exam, students can choose the number of exam questions that will be displayed on the screen at a given time. A student can take the exam only on the specified date and time set by the instructor. Ideally, a particular exam should be taken only once. In cases of retakes due to valid reasons and special exam considerations, the instructor is given the option to administer the previously activated exam, edit or create a new set of questions. One limitation though, this online system is not to be used to compute for the class performance for the final grade since this requires other components such as seat works, graded recitations, laboratory activities, etc. This only computes and shows the scores from previous exams and the average. But teachers may face challenges when introducing on line exams in a higher education context. This paper describes what sort of challenges will be there when introducing online exams. ONLINE EXAMINATION SYSTEM

The main purpose of this paper was to develop an online examination system suitable for both Academic and Non-Academic examinations. Prior to start the design and development of the system three online examination systems were analyzed to make the newly developed system more flexible and user friendly in the context of Bangladesh. Three Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs) and one E-R diagram have been developed to represent the whole system. Different features of the online examination system are discussed in this paper. The features include user's registration, examination instruction, valid time of examination, time reminder, submission of the answer script, and release of the examination results. The system enables the admin or super admin to create a test from a question bank that comprises different subject areas. Testing of the system is done with ten users with a test that included 20 questions from four subject areas such as Bangla, English, General Knowledge, and Science and Technology. It is a multilingual system that permits users to conduct tests in their mother language.

ABSTRACT This study was carried out on the design and implementation of post utme online examination system, a case study of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba - Akoko, Ondo State. Online Examination System is a system based on carrying out test and examination, which were carried out manually with the aid of computer and internet technology Mustakerov & Borissova (2011). The project work support and implement the three structural layers proposed by Aimin & Jipeng (2009), the three layers were the administrator, Student and instructor, also the architecture of Jin & Ma (2008) which focus on this layers were adopted in the development. Furthermore, Wilson (2004) investigated the extent the feedback process affects the student performance by comparing with the students who receive classical face-to-face education. The author emphasized that student feedbacks may render evaluation process more efficient. The current study is inline with Wilson (2004) and also with the view of Crisp & Ward (2008), on the other hand, that getting feedbacks in the systems with too many students can only be achieved with the aid of online systems. And lastly, in their study, Shen et al. (2001) emphasized the importance of adjustment and update processes based on student feedbacks for proper execution of online examination. The current research makes use of this trend in the integration of feedback system in Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba - Akoko online examination system. In addition, there are other potentially problematic issues to consider. There are consistent situational or environmental characteristics of situations where students cheat (Leming, 1979; Maramark & Maline, 1993). Most cheaters recognize that cheating is wrong, but believe that they are in special circumstances that make it right for them to cheat (Sykes & Matza, 1957). The second of the problems concerns enrolment. No matter how securely the system is designed, if the correct person is not enrolled, the use of biometrics does not help (Ashbourn, 1999; Boves & Koolwaaij, 1998; Schneier, 1999). Although these disadvantages should not discourage developers from creating online support, they should be considered during planning and designing stages (Aimin & Jipeng 2009) this serve as a motivation for the current project. Primary contribution of this study is the proposed online examination system having an integrated and flexible structure. The system manages a number of functions such as collection of feedbacks from students, generating reports and submitting them to the managers and providing proposals in the decision-making processes by help of analysis within a single module as distinct from the other studies found in the literature.

This paper describes methods of on-line assessment and students' survey, which utilize the Web interfaces and uses them in conjunction with the Internet. To find the most appropriate alternative methods of students' assessment and survey a variety of commercial and public domain tools was used to implement the following two basic tasks: 1. "Student Suggestion Box" where students evaluate the subject and make comments and suggestions on the subject and its assessment, and 2. a partially AutoMark short assessment task, containing two paragraph questions and three multiple choice questions, that offers final marks to the instructor/students and provides prompt feedback for wrong or partially wrong answers to students.
