Abstract

Wireless sensor network composed of infrastructureless, small, low-power, low cost, dynamic nature, application oriented, and multihoping wireless nodes, design for the purpose of collecting information by environment sensing, processing and communication. Designing of these networks become more complicated due to deploy nodes characterstics, maintenance of database, security, authentication and its functioning in open environment. This paper presents a general overview of WSN in detail and covers its applications and vulnerable aspects of WSN.

The confluence of cheap wireless communication, sensing and computation has produced a new group of smart devices and by using thousands of these kind of devices in self-organizing networks has formed a new technology that is called wireless sensor networks (WSNs). WSNs use sensor nodes that placed in open areas or in public places and with a huge number that creates many problems for the researchers and network designer, for giving an appropriate design for the wireless network. The problems are security, routing of data and processing of large amount of data etc. This paper describes the types of WSNs and the possible solutions for tackling the listed problems and solution of many other problems. Recent advancement and grown up technologies has enabled the development and implementation of low-cost, energy efficient and versatile sensor networks. Sensor networks are built up with sensors that have the ability to sense fiscal or environmental property. Assumption can be made that Wireless Sensing Network (WSN) is able to sense environmental conditions at Nano and gaseous level. In this paper, first the system architecture of WSN is described. The network may maintain several architectural protocol and topologies. WSN provides some services which are maintained by layered architecture. Another important issue regarding wireless networking is the security challenges. This work guided to a concept of several security issues and discussion to overcome the challenging issues.

The network of sensors that covers a region and provides information about it is a Wireless Sensor Network in its simplest form. It uses wireless links to communicate the data gathered from monitored field and environment [1]. Network of devices that can communicate gathered information from monitoring field through wireless links and process it is known as Wireless Sensor Network. Communication through wireless medium is booming in today's era. As wireless networks are very useful in remote places, it also has some serious security issues that can be harmful for entire network system. Hence security of wireless networks and so the information that it relays attracts more attention in deploying the complete infrastructure. Some of the security protocols defined for security purpose have most importance in designing security model for sensor networks.
