This lecture explores the interrelationship between education, human security, and entrepreneurship, particularly in the context of Nigeria. It highlights how a lack of education and entrepreneurial skills can lead to criminality among the youth and argues for a broader understanding of education that encompasses formal, non-formal, and informal learning pathways. The lecture proposes that integrating quality education and entrepreneurial training can enhance human security and provide gainful employment opportunities for Nigeria's youth.

This paper discusses the need for entrepreneurship education in Nigeria geared towards enhancing sustainable development in the country. Since entrepreneurship skills remain vital in the real sector and the sustenance of economic development, it has become imperative for government to pay attention to this sub-sector. The problems facing the country ranging from acute poverty, youth and graduate unemployment, dependence on foreign goods and technology; to youth restiveness and violence among others has prompted government's recognition of this fact that has led to the introduction of entrepreneurial studies in tertiary institutions. The concern is to encourage youths to engage in useful livelihood. This paper therefore argues that entrepreneurship education will equip the students with the necessary skills with which to be self-reliant. The objective and strategies for re-designing entrepreneurship education are also discussed. The paper recommends that educational programmes at all levels of education should be made relevant to provide the youths the needed entrepreneurial skills.

Globally, entrepreneurship is seen not only as the antidote to the astronomically growing socioeconomic problem of unemployment, but particularly as the engine of economic growth and stability and by extension, the prosperity of nations. Accordingly, concerted efforts, backed by deliberate State policies and strategies, are normally geared towards its promotion and sustenance. The starting point has been recognized to be wholistic and integrated education and enlightening programmes/projects, such as the National Consortium on Entrepreneurship Education in the USA. Nigeria has not been left out of this global attention, as the National Universities' Commission, NUC, recently directed every tertiary institution in the Country to make entrepreneurial education an integral part of its curriculum. This paper examines, among others, the necessity, scope and challenges of this all-important programme at the most critical level of education. A wholistic approach has been adopted, including a survey of relevant stakeholders, notably students at the tertiary level of education in Nigeria, with thought-provoking positions/findings upon which appropriate strategies and approaches have been contributed for not only the success of the programme, but most important for the muchdesired economic transformation revolutionized by entrepreneurial spirit.

Education in Nigeria is devoid of the element crucial to averting the surging rate of unemployment in the country, therefore the breeding of psychological dependence on direct access to money. Entrepreneurial development through education will advance the economy of the nation; much credence should be given to it and ingrained with focus on profitable personal development. Unemployment prevails in the country, hence, the growth of violence, poverty and segregation amongst citizens, because the educational system itself fails to empower the ones passing through it. This research work, therefore examines the strategies of entrepreneurial education carried out in two of the universities pioneering it; Federal University of Technology, Akure, and Covenant University Ota, the former being a public university and the latter a private university. The objectives of the study were to appraise if educational styles arouse interest of students in the industries of their discipline; to explore the effectiveness of entrepreneurial development strategy in education in universities that implements it; to see if the current university educational system stimulates entrepreneurial creativity in its students The methodology adopted was a mixed analysis of quantitative and qualitative parameters based on the survey design which relied on primary and secondary sources of gathering data, through the use of questionnaires and interview instruments. Three hundred (300) questionnaires were administered, and two hundred and fifty four (254) were returned. The study adopted quota and simple random sampling technique. The data was analyzed and presented using tables and percentages. The findings of this research portrays a huge disparity between the perception and conceptualization of entrepreneurship in the graduates of each university used in the study, this further highlights the significant impact of the system of teaching entrepreneurship within the two universities. The study shows that entrepreneurial education should be taught with field oriented and practical approaches. It was discovered that graduates from Covenant University are more apt to creating value, and are more self driven and willing to use opportunities available to them whether or not they have an employment. The study recommends that there should be a working partnership, bridging the gap between the higher institutions and the industry. Lecturers should have field experience to aid communication and teaching of the courses and Universities should work toward becoming entrepreneurial hubs for students and young entrepreneurs. The government should also focus more on the youth age group for entrepreneurship development in the country amongst other things critical to the development of the nation.

Over the years higher education in Nigeria had been faced with a great challenge of producing graduates who are unemployed. This took its root on the policy that hitherto was based on the production of manpower to man positions which would strengthen the colonial administration and for paid employment. Today, efforts have been made to review and revise the national policy on education to be in line with global challenges in preparing the students for self-reliance. This if well implemented would serve as a panacea for solving the massive unemployment problem, diminish rural poverty and empower a larger percentage of the graduates economically. This paper discussed the concern to redesign university programme to incorporate entrepreneurship education, a historical over view of higher education policy and self-reliance. It also looked at university education and entrepreneurship. It could be true that since the past two decades attention of both the federal and state government had been drawn to incorporating entrepreneurship education in higher institutions, there could still be an urgent need to link education with enterprise and self-reliance through an integrated national policy as an imperative for effective man power planning. There was also the need to redirect through the policy an emphasis that all disciplined based programmes should incorporate the development of enterprising spirit in all facets of the training.
The rediscovery of small businesses or enterprise in tackling economic downturn and unemployment is in itself a challenge that most governments around the world are battling with. This paper intends to develop a concept that introduces small business groups or clubs in secondary and tertiary institutions and should be closely supervised by the lecturers or teachers and mentored by renowned business gurus, voluntarily. This work would simply observe people, attitude, institutions and the know-how on creating wealth via entrepreneurship. In this respect, perhaps the informal/illiterate entrepreneur is creating wealth and leading the Nigerian business sector in a rediscovery of business as an enterprise, and also the rediscovery of business as a process limited only by the boundaries of our individual youth determination, intelligence, imaginative power, energy, and focused power. This paper would consolidate on existing knowledge and good practices in entrepreneurship education around three focus areas that covers the lifelong learning process of an individual: youth, higher education and social inclusion. It also outlines specific approaches that are needed for each one of these areas as well as opportunities, challenges, and practical recommendations. Keyword: Redefining entrepreneurship education, redirecting innovation, creative, skillful and youthful energy into new business ventures Entrepreneurship is an inner mindset of an individual to start a business venture or do business differently from the status quo. Entrepreneurship education seeks to provide students/individuals with the skills, knowledge, and motivation to encourage entrepreneurial success in a variety of settings. For the sake of this paper, entrepreneurship education would be restricted to a practical business group or club. The argument still lies on the great profitability of illiterate entrepreneurial against a literate youth unwilling to venture into any form of innovative products. Entrepreneurship and education are two such extraordinary opportunities that need to be leveraged and interconnected to develop the human capital that would be required to building the societies of the future. Entrepreneurship is the engine fuelling innovation, employment generation and economic growth. Only by creating an environment where entrepreneurship can prosper and where entrepreneurs can try new ideas and empower others that ensure that many of the world's issues will be addressed. As the definition is diverse, most of times they lead to the same opinion, as Kuratko and Hodgetts (2004) puts the opinion forward, Entrepreneurship is a dynamic process of vision, change, and creation. It requires an application of energy and passion towards the creation and implementation of new ideas and creative solutions. The essential ingredients include the willingness to take a calculated risk – in terms of time, equity, or career, the ability of formulating an effective venture team; the creative skill to marshal needed resource and fundamental skill of building solid business plan and finally, the vision to recognize opportunity where others see chaos, contradiction, and confusion. (Kuratko and Hodgetts, 2004).
The progress of a nation is a function of the level of the resourcefulness of the people which to a great extent, relates to the level of quality of the training and purposeful development of education in that nation. Such progress or development could only occur when an individual in the society is gainfully employed and per capital income is enhanced. This could only be possible when government educational policies are geared towards a functional education that can lead to job creation and also self reliance. Entrepreneurship education is a means through which government could attain such development in the society. Therefore, this paper examines entrepreneurship education as the way forward to job creation in Nigeria. The challenges of quality entrepreneurship education were also discussed. Finally, the paper advanced some suggestions on how to overcome the challenges so as to reduce unemployment and enhances job creation in Nigeria. Keywords: Entrepreneurship, Education, Job, way forward, Creation.
