Rund 355 Jahre nach seinem Tod findet der spanische Autor Baltasar Gracián in fachwissenschaftlichen wie in popularisierenden Kontexten wieder verstärkt Aufmerksamkeit. Der Band widmet sich "Graciáns Künsten" und nähert sich dabei von verschiedenen Seiten dessen Vorstellung einer umfassenden Lebenskunst. Zu dieser gehören etwa die Kunst, klug zu handeln – die arte de prudencia –, sowie die Kunst, die Welt mit Scharfsinn und Witz wahrzunehmen – die arte de ingenio. Die Beiträge des Bandes suchen den systematischen Ort von "Graciáns Künsten"; sie schildern deren immanente Komplexität und Ambivalenz in einzelnen Textanalysen, verfolgen deren intensives Wechselspiel in werkübergreifender Perspektive und zeichnen schließlich deren 'Übersetzungsgeschichte' nach, entlang unterschiedlicher Rezeptionslinien vom 17. In this paper I defend Kant's idea that libertarian freedom and causal determinism can be made compatible if we assume that the first pertains to the agent as a thing in itself and the second to the agent as an appearance. I show that the supposed absurd consequences for which Kant was blamed by authors such as Wood and Walker do not in fact follow from his account, and I explain how the counterfactual dependence of our empirical deeds from our intelligible character suffices to save moral responsibility in a deterministic world.

Riassunto La lectura presente dimostra in che modo Dante, nel XXVI Canto del Paradiso, rappresenti il potere della musica, trasfigurando l’interazione tra canto, linguaggio e conoscenza nel suo stesso comporre poetico. In primo luogo Dante trasforma l’impossibilità di rendere a parole la sua esperienza personale nel paradiso in una rappresentazione poetica del paradiso stesso, basandosi su due vocaboli: egli inventa innanzitutto il verbo ›trasumanare‹ per significare l’andare oltre la condizione umana e fare così esperienze altrimenti non recepibili dall’uomo a livello sensoriale o intellettivo; poi ricorre al nome ›spiro‹, per definire la musica angelica e in modo tale il potere degli angeli con un termine appartenente all’area semantica della corporeità. In secondo luogo, si nota che Dante elabora un modello d’antropologia cristiana letteraria, che utilizza i due principi guida della musica - la scienza e la bellezza - per attirare gli spiriti umani, in altre parole l’anima stessa...

Einleitung: Katalanische Übersetzungen Kants Werke sind bislang nur teilweise ins Katalanische übersetzt worden. Heutzutage verfügen die katalanischsprachigen Leser über lediglich etwas mehr als zehn Ausgaben, in denen eine bzw. mehrere Übersetzungen von Kants Schriften enthalten sind.1 Dies mag zwar als eine geringe Zahl scheinen, zumindest im Vergleich zur großen Fülle der existierenden spanischsprachigen Ausgaben, die ja, wenn keine entsprechende katalanische Ausgabe vorliegt, jederzeit dem bilingualen Leser zur 1 Im Folgenden wird der Ausdruck katalanisch im weiten Sinne benutzt, sodass darunter nicht nur Katalanisch, sondern auch Valencianisch und Balearisch zu verstehen sind. Bekanntlich wird die katalanische Sprache nicht nur in Katalonien benutzt, sondern auchin ihren verschiedenen Dialekten und Variantenin der Comunitat Valenciana und auf den Illes Balears sowie im Grenzgebiet mit Aragon und Frankreich. Ebenso wird Katalanisch in Alghero (auf der Insel Sardinien) gesprochen. Jedoch gehört diese Variante nicht zur spanischen Konstellation und ist daher nicht Gegenstand dieses Berichtes. (In Okzitanien [Frankreich] und Vall d'Aran [Katalonien] wird auch eine eigene Sprache, Okzitanisch bzw. Aranesisch, gesprochen). Nur eine der hier besprochenen Übersetzungen entspricht der valencianischen Variante und wurde in Valencia herausgegeben: Kant: Crítica de la raó pura (Pròleg de la segona edició i Introducció) i Què és Il·lustració?. Übers. von Joan Baptista Llinares Chover. Hg. von Neus Campillo Iborra und Manuel Ramos Valera. València, Universitat de V. 1991. Alle anderen Übersetzungen stammen aus Barcelona und sind der dortigen Variante der katalanischen Sprache zuzuordnen. Die katalanischen Übersetzungen von Kants Schriften Manuskript im Druck ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ 2 Verfügung stehen. Die verhältnismäßig geringe Zahl aktuell vorliegender katalanischer Übersetzungen ist jedoch darauf zurückzuführen, dass die Übersetzung von Kants Werken ins Katalanische erst recht spätin den 1980er Jahreneinsetzte. Die einzige Ausnahme bildet eine frühere Übersetzung der Schrift Zum Ewigen Frieden, die 1932 in Barcelona erschien. Kulturelle, wirtschaftliche sowie nicht zuletzt politische Gründedie brutale Zäsur des spanischen Bürgerkrieges, die darauffolgende Franco-Diktaturkönnen freilich erklären, warum es so lange dauerte, genau ein halbes Jahrhundert (1982), bis die zweite Übersetzung in Angriff genommen wurde, nämlich die Erstübersetzung der Prolegomena, eine Pionierleistung.2 Tatsache bleibt aber, dass ab diesem Datum mehr und mehr katalanische Übersetzungen zu Stande gekommen sind und dass diese Übersetzungstätigkeit erfreulicherweise noch lange nicht abgeschlossen ist.
