Developing a New Android App for College Management System

With the advancement in technology, higher expectations of productivity and quality of work there is a need for faster dissemination of information. At the college we rely on traditional means of communication heavily. This limits us in our ability to make most of the time, effort and resource. Connected, personalized, intelligent information appliances are becoming increasingly important in our personal and professional lives. Although a dedicated platform is not required, the current means of communication available to us at the college are time-consuming, inefficient, cause redundancy and require unnecessary manual labor which can be easily prevented with the application. The application is being specially developed with academia in perspective hence will prove to be of more use than just a communication channel.

Ideally, all the work related to college management is done manually. The work includes preparing results of students on papers/sheets, maintaining list of Defaulter students on papers, providing notes i.e. the hardcopies to the students, providing results after each exam is finished and so on. Information is in the form of notice, handwritten manual, verbal message, is being spread among the students. So, the process of college management is tedious. This wastes the time of teachers as well as students in the process. Hence, in order to overcome this problem, a smart phonebased application using Android can be used to make this process easier as well as less time consuming. All these tasks are integrated in a single application which is "Smart College". The main purpose of this project is to add mobility and automation to the process of managing student information in an institute. The application will be used by HOD, Faculties and Students. HOD will be the admin and the admin will add the faculty and faculty will add the students. The users of the application are given privileges accordingly. The faculty and admin will have the privilege of uploading and posting notices and notes to the application whereas the students will be having only privilege of viewing the notices, downloading the documents of the notes, view their attendance , view their results after each exam is finished ,etc. Discussion forum is also provided in the application where students can interact with the faculty as well as admin. Thus, the application resolves the tedious process of college management process.

Student Data Management System is an android application to store and manage student information in modern educational institutions[2]. Traditionally, it has been managed using pen and paper which is not very efficient. Hence the goal of the project is to create an android application for Student Management for storing and retrieving the data of students and faculty for efficient functioning of the academic institutions. The main objective of this project is to feature mobility and automating the method of managing student information in an institute. In a world scenario, like college campuses, the knowledge is within the sort of notice, handwritten manual and the verbal message is being spread among the scholars. Today it is of the essence to not only use the predictable sorts of the statement, but also new forms like telephone technology, for faster and easier communication among the students. The approach of communication is Android. The core idea of this project is to implement an android based Mobile Campus application for the advancement of the institution and academic systems. The application is going to be employed by students, teachers, and fogeys. In the previous system, all the knowledge is viewed as a hard file, or on the website. At an equivalent time while searching for any information it is too difficult to access and takes tons of your time to look at the actual website. Hence, to beat this problem a sensible phone-based application using Android is required to make this process easier, secure and fewer error-prone. More efficient information will be achieved through this system. When sensitive data is stored on the device, our application can make sure that they're stored securely using encryption. Apps also exchange sensitive information with remote servers. The Android platform provides a variety of algorithms for encrypting sensitive information. Some of these algorithms provide stronger cryptographic guarantees in protecting data than others. Cryptographic algorithms are harder to interrupt when there is more unpredictability within the random numbers generated for encryption. A way of introducing unpredictability in Android is to use the Secure Random class. The need for encryption is twofold. Firstly, encryption makes it difficult to read and use any sensitive information that an app stores on a tool. Secondly, encryption adds a further layer of security to sensitive information that is exchanged between the application and the remote server.

Mobile applications are too handy and easy to use. They are used as an option to the traditional process. Applications developed have users which through proper authentication can access the system. Teacher and students both have their own apps and have username and password to log in and so anyone cannot log in. Students can view all the details like attendance percentage, defaulter list, and internal marks, practical submitted using this app interface. Teachers can take attendance, enter marks, keep track of each student who has submitted the practical, and generate automatic defaulter and critical defaulter list. The project also adds mobility and automation of the information.
