Remaking Hitchcock (Course Syllabus)

This course will examine films of director Alfred Hitchcock and various filmmakers he has influenced, including Brian DePalma, Paul Verhoeven, Jonathan Demme, Roman Polanski, Chan-wook Park, Gus Van Sant, Pedro Almodovar, and David Lynch. On a deeper level, however, this is a class about intertextuality. Using Hitchcock as a case study, we will define and sometimes trouble the boundaries between remake, parody, imitation, influence, homage, allusion, and pastiche.
