Abstract

Abstract: at the beginning of the twentieth century, the journal Lək-lək, published in Erivan (historically known as the Azerbaijani city of Iravan), emerged as a significant periodical that continued the satirical and critical traditions of the Azerbaijani press. The journal’s content addressed issues such as social injustice, religious obscurantism, the deprivation of women’s rights, problems of education, and socio-cultural backwardness. The authors who contributed to the journal critically and satirically examined relations among various social groups – including officials, clerics, laborers, and the poor–delivering messages aimed at enlightening readers and preserving national and spiritual values. Thus, in the early twentieth century, the journal distinguished itself within Azerbaijani satirical print culture through its critical and educational role and is regarded as a valuable source for literary, social, and ideological research. Keywords: Satire, Lək-lək, criticism, women’s rights, social injustice, religious obscurantism.
