Abstract
Images of the individuals about any matter are one of the most important factors influencing learning. In this regard, images have become of the mainly discussed matters in education. Teacher is one of the most important factors of education. Since teacher is a natural role model for students, students' "teacher" images influence their academic achievements, personality development, perspectives about science and nature. In this respect, it is highly important to reveal how biology teachers are perceived by the students. The purpose of this study is to reveal the images developed by high school teachers about biology teacher by means of the Draw a Biology Teacher Test. In line with this purpose, 254 high school students in Konya province were applied the "Draw a biology teacher" scale as a single question in the academic year 2016-2017. As a result of the analyses of the drawings, it was revealed that the biology teacher image of the students was rather a "biology teacher making site research in nature", a "biology teacher doing experiments in the laboratory", a "biology teacher using technology in the classroom". Additionally, the biology teachers had a camera, telescope and microscope in the student drawings. The results showed that there was a change in the students' traditional-stereotype biology teacher images.

It can be said that the positive perception that the students will develop against science and the scientist from childhood is so effective that it can direct their perception in their future lives. Therefore, determination of students’ perceptions of science and the scientist is very important for educators. Thus, the purpose of the current study is to determine secondary school students’ images of the scientist. Moreover, the study also looked at the classroom factors affecting students’ images of the scientist. The study was carried out with the participation of 240 secondary school students in a city located in the western part of Turkey in the fall term of the 2017-2018 school year. In the study, the DAST scale adapted by Farland (2003) was administered to the secondary school students. Within the context of the current study, the secondary school students’ images of the scientist were explored in terms of the appearance, working area and works of the scientist.

Biology is an important subject in curriculum. It helps to develop the scientific attitude, scientific temper, logical reasoning, scientific literacy, awareness of environmental issues, and respect about surrounding life among students. Biology textbook content is a authentic source of information for teachers & students. According to the National Focus Group has made important consideration about higher secondary biology curriculum that, scientific concepts should be within reach of the learner and also content components i.e. key terms, facts, concepts, principles, illustrations etc introduced and delivered in the classroom by meaningfully and simplified manner. The biology teachers play an important role to transfer biology content knowledge to the students. If the biology teachers already perceived some misconceptions or alternative conceptions regarding the biology concepts, it may transform as it is in their students. It will be adversely affected the conceptual understanding of the students. In the present paper researchers has made an attempt to study the perception about Biological concepts among higher secondary teachers. The content analysis method and descriptive survey method was adopted for the study. The data collected from higher secondary biology teachers (N=50) with the help of researcher made questionnaire and analyzed with the descriptive statistics. It was found that most of the higher secondary biology teachers are unaware about the biological concepts in textbook. Most of the teachers are unable to differentiate between biological terms, facts, attributes and concepts. The present paper will be helpful to know more about the present status of perception of higher secondary biology teachers and the content analysis.
Many scientist image studies have been conducted with the participation of many students from various grades and from various age groups. In these studies, stereotyped images were determined and activities were designed to change the existing ones. However, there are still missing points in Turkey in terms of investigating the scientist image of the children at primary school age and changing this image through action study. Based on this point, the aim of the present study is to change the scientist image of the primary school children living in low socioeconomic conditions through telling scientific stories and direct reflecting

The purpose of this research is to reveal the perceptions of students of five years old group about scientists. The practice was implemented with 76 students having education in five-age group continuing to various nursery schools located in the center of Kastamonu province. Before starting the practice, the teacher asked the questions of "Who is the scientist?" and made them thought with the aim of ensuring the awareness of students against scientist. Afterwards, the researchers asked the students to narrate their pictures while they collect the drawings. The paintings were coded by the researchers by using the descriptive analysis method. The codification was made individually at first and then together with all the researchers with the aim of ensuring the reliability of research. In the light of collected information, it was generally seen in the pictures of students that the work environment of scientists is constituted by the space and world and their gender is generally men and also, there was a small number of women scientist profile. It was also determined that the students emphasized the extraterrestrial life and drew the scientists as similar to astronauts and they used space crafts and planets in their paintings. In another finding, scientists were seen as the people who mostly conduct research and use potion in general. Another attractive research finding is that; a small number of students draw the scientist as person who use computer and study lesson. In the light of these findings, it can be told that the students were affected extremely from their environment (the movies and cartoon they watched, their families, etc.…).

This study aimed to investigate how a poster study focusing on the biographies of today’s scientists affected 8th graders’ scientist images. The study utilized a mixed model which combined qualitative and quantitative research techniques. 142 8th graders from a secondary school in Ankara Province Keçiören District participated in the study. Implementation took place in the spring term of 2013-2014 academic years. In implementation, students were given “Draw A Scientist Test (DAST)” in order to determine the scientist image of students before and after implementation and students were asked to explain scientists in their drawings. After the pretest, control group students continued their training following the curriculum, while experimental group students were given the task of preparing poster studies titled “biographies of today’s scientists’” in addition to their regular curriculum. According to research results, poster study on biographies of today’s scientists had no effect on 8th graders’ scientist images. In this sense, it can be argued that teaching process should include biographies of past scientists rather than today’s scientists and teaching practices that include the use of posters in presentations and discussions should be carried out with students at different educational levels. Despite the importance of Biology in several arears of human endeavors, teaching of practical has been handled with levity both by the teachers and the students. Studies indicated that teachers’ factors, ways and manners related to the teaching of the subject and qualification of Biology teachers are among numerous factors causing students’ poor achievements in Biology. Results from studies suggest that biological drawings could be used to facilitate students’ learning. This study assessed the knowledge of biological drawings possessed by senior school (SS) students based on frequency of Biology practical classes taught by teachers and teachers’ qualification in Oyo State, Nigeria. Descriptive research was employed. A total of 657 Biology students were randomly sampled for the study. Students’ Biological Drawings Achievement Test (SBDAT) was the instrument used with the reliability coefficient of 0.70 using test-retest method. Two hypotheses were generated and tested. Data were anal...
Though science teacher candidates know the cell subject in theory, they cannot connect the relation between the cell and its organelles exactly. With this study, using drawing method to ascertain the ideas of the teacher candidates about cell subject, the importance of the use of the drawing method in assessments will be emphasized. In the study it is aimed to determine the science teacher candidates' ideas on cell subject through drawing. The study was carried out with 62 teacher candidates that study science teaching department second grade in 2012-2013 academic year fall semester. In the study survey method was used, which is one of the descriptive research methods. In the study the drawing test (Drawing Test Regarding Cell Subject) which was developed by researchers was used as data gathering tool and developed rubric was used for data analysis. According to the findings obtained from the study it can be said that teacher candidates generally have sufficient performance on cell subject. Although science teacher candidates know the basic parts of the cell they have misunderstandings about the places, shapes and the connections of the organelles. Besides, it can be expressed that the teacher candidates have inadequate information about the nucleus. In this context although teacher candidates know the cell organelles, they have lacking knowledge regarding the shape-place-connections of the cell. In this study it is understood that they drew the nucleus at the right place however they do not know some parts or relatively know the parts of the cell. INTRODUCTION In order to sustain a regular and a healthy life individuals must know the nature and the living and must be sensitive towards them. As Gunes and Gunes (2005) suggest that the whole organic and inorganic environment that contain humans affect their daily life, development and health and realizing all these can be possible through learning biology subjects. The field of biology that searches the humans and the whole organic-inorganic beings is one of the science fields that have developed most and it affects human life a lot (Ekici, 2002). As a matter of fact biology is the life study that requires careful observation and explanation (Dempsey and Betz, 2001). In this context, it can be said that biology subjects have great importance in people's learning and acquiring basic life skills. Considering the fact that the foundation of the biology subjects is laid in primary school introduction to science and secondary school science courses, the importance of these lessons is increasing.

The study explored the pictorial representation of Scientists by the Bhutanese students of grade IX and science teachers by using a method called Drawing-A-Scientist Test (DAST). A total of 208 students from grade IX and three science teachers from two rural schools participated in the study. The study employed a mixed method. The study found that participants hold stereotypical images of scientists as being predominantly male who are more knowledgeable and hardworking. They wore laboratory coat and possessed eccentric characters, messy hairs and facial hairs. However, they were not depicted as someone always wearing eye glasses or working with test tubes, flasks, microscope, bunsen burner and experimental animals. Also, the use of formula, equations, and taxonomy were minimal. There was also no indication of use of technology which could be attributed to the study site-rural school, where access to technology is minimal. It is recommended that teachers should make the students aware that all students have equal opportunity to become a scientist and the sinister look with messy unkempt hairdo is not necessarily images of scientist. Further, the present study focused on only a select rural school, a study may be carried out across schools to get a deep understanding of the subject.

The purpose of this study was to explore elementary school children's images of scientists with emphasis on how children define scientists, their idea of the nature of scientists' work, and factors that might influence the formation of their images of scientists. Twenty-eight 5th and 6th grade students were asked to draw pictures and write compositions about scientists and were then interviewed for further details regarding their images of scientists. Results indicate that the students did not differentiate scientists from non-scientists very clearly and placed emphasis on scientists' contributions to the well-being of mankind. In addition, findings suggest that students view scientific research as the absolute truth and scientific experiments as proof or verification. Students' images of scientists were found to be influenced by the media, in particular by scientists' biographies. Contains 12 references.
