Interactive Book Design for Speech Delay Child Therapy

Speech therapy is an alternative to overcome the problem of speech disorders. The provision of speech therapy services and the manufacture of speech therapy visual aids for children with speech disorders are urgently needed. One of the learning innovations that can be implemented is by making speech therapy aids for children with special needs. The goal of this service activity is to broaden the knowledge and understanding of PBSI FKIP UMK academic community related to the learning innovations of children who experience speech impairment by using speech therapy aids for children with special needs and to bring up science and technology-based business units. The methods used include segmentation, production, finance and HR management. The products are number cards, alphabet cards, body part cards, daily activity cards, certain place sequence accordions, daily activity order sequences, and hand puppets.

This essay is part of an undergoing investigation of interdisciplinary nature between the fields of Design and Assisted Technology. Starting from the principle based in Kerckhove (1998) ideas, that each technology extends one of our faculties and transcends our physical limitations, we want to get the best extensions of our body. The focus of this study is to produce an interactive book in bilingual digital format (Brazilian Sign Language-LIBRAS and Portuguese) by means of an investigation encompassing relations of design, information technology and communication. The aim, thus, is the development of a hypermedia environment that helps the process of reading for deaf children, but not exclusively. In this paper will be presented a summary of the methodological process in which the research is founded, and part of the first stage of investigation, in other words, the study of similar and the foundation for developing the narrative envisioning an adequate project of visual, verbal and sound language in order to collaborate with the process of interpretation and construction of the meaning of information that will be made available. The research project encompassing this study was funded by Brazilian development agencies, the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development, an agency of Brazil's Ministry of Science, Technology (CNPq) and Innovation and Foundation for Research Support of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Faperj). The intention of this study is to found and develop means that enable relationships between knowledge about necessities and potentialities of deaf children and to make available a book that might stimulate their development and, in consequence, facilitate their inclusion in society.

Interactive book app is defined as the app which is used for practicing speech language and literacy skills for children. Very young non-or hardly speaking children with severe disabilities need active guidance to stimulate interaction with their environment in order to develop their communicative and linguistic skills. Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems can help this process, provided that they are tuned to this specific user group. LinguaBytes is a research programme, which aims at developing an interactive and adaptive educational toy that stimulates the language and communicative skills of multiplehandicapped children with a developmental age between 1-4 years. In this article we show which guidelines we consider essential for developing this tool. We have developed several concepts based on these guidelines, of which we elucidate one called Explorascope (E-scope). E-scope consists of a tangible toy-like interface that is adaptable to an individual child with respect to his or her cognitive, linguistic, emotional and perceptual-motor skills. A user test with the first version of E-scope shows that adaptive, toy-like educational tools are promising and useful for this user group.

In the present article, the development of a child-friendly computer software program to enhance the early literacy skills of kindergarteners in the Netherlands is described. The ergonomic aspects of designing software for young children are described along with the content of the program in connection with the literature on early literacy. The results of two studies with immigrant kindergarteners trained using the story and the vocabulary part of the program are also reported. After a short amount of training, the vocabulary of the children was found to show significant gains. #

This study aims: (1) to develop pop-up book learning media appropriate for children aged 4-5 years and (2) know the effectiveness of pop-up book learning media to improve cognitive ability for children aged 4-5 years. This development research adopted Borg & Gall. The subjects used for the preliminary field test were 2 teachers and 12 children aged 4-5 years and main field test of 4 teachers and 31 children aged 4-5 years. The operational field test consisted of 40 children. Techniques and instruments of data collection were conducted through interviews, validation sheets, teacher and child response questionnaires, and observation sheets. Data collection techniques on operational trial used one-group pretest-posttest design. Data analysis used homogeneity test, normality test, paired sample t-test with significance level 0.05. The results show that: (1) The research has successfully developed a pop-up book learning media for children aged 4-5 years, (2) pop-up book learning media was appropriate to be used according to expert judgment and test result, and (3) the media of pop-up book was effective to improve cognitive ability for children aged 4-5 years. This can be seen from the result of paired sample t-test calculations in which the significance value was 0.00 less than 0.05 (<0.05), meaning that the pop-up book learning media was effective to improve cognitive ability for children aged 4-5 years.

This study aims to develop a big book media in visualizing the concept of narrative text through reading together on class V mild mentally retarded students. This research and development uses a 4-D development model consisting of four stages, namely definition, design, development, and dissemination; but without the disssemination stage. The instrument used is the rating scale sheet. The big book media is tested by media experts and material experts. The practicality test is done by calculating the assessment of the user&#39;s response (class teacher and mentally retarded students) and effectiveness test seen from the value of the pretest and posttest. This research resulted in: (1) The results of the feasibility test from the experts showed a very decent score of 99.28% and 98.94%. The children with hearing impairments have the difficulty of receiving information from outside, so the students need an ineractive media for beginning reading to facilitate their understanding and tailore to their needs. This research and development used Lee & Owens (2004) method consists of assessment/analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The validation score was 94% from media experts, 80% from material expert, and 80% from practitioners' scores. While the field trial results were obtained 100% that reach the Minimum Completeness Criteria (Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimum/KKM) with highly effective qualification. Based on these data, it has been shown that interactive multimedia was quite valid and very effective to be used in learning. Suggestions for further researchers are expected to develop the learning media on subsequent material competence.
