The collaborative art practice of Brass Art is hybrid, performative and playful. This paper will focus on Brass Art's long-term engagement with 3D body scanning. It will examine how it has been used as a method of self-replication. It will discuss 'the double' in relation to the uncanny and demonstrate how Brass Art have manipulated their personal 3D data to create alter egos, using expressive 3D modelling techniques, moving lights and 3D printing processes to create installations and precinematic shadowplays. As Marina Warner observes, "The theme [of the double] is intertwined with technologies of reproduction, first optical, then, increasingly biological. Representation itself acts as a form of doubling: representation exists in magical relation to the apprehensible world, it can exercise the power to make something come alive apparently." [1] Brass Art will present a series of installations that have been exhibited throughout the UK, including: Moments of Death and Revival (Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Hoxton Square, London), Rooted and Established (Croft Castle, UK) and Inside the Invisible (A Foundation, Liverpool). Brass Art will also discuss a new research project combining crafted digital 3D body scans with museum artefacts that have been duplicated using laser and CT scanning methods. Still Life (No.1) will be exhibited in Dark Matters, Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, 2011. The presentation will also discuss future research projects, and reflect upon collaborations with: UK Universities, Industry partners including Wicks and Wilson Ltd, outside agencies including Ogle Models and Prototypes Ltd and RapidformRCA, alongside other creative practitioners.

The teaching of Drawing must constantly face new challenges due to two essential elements that change over time and are closely interconnected: the technological innovation of the tools and the multidisciplinary enrichment of the contents. In this context, the Digital Twin requires that the Drawing be rethought to define a perfect graphic and alphanumeric synthesis of static and dynamic contents, in order to guarantee a correct use of information within a decision-making process based on data and their reliability. The close correlation between research and teaching activities on multi-representation systems in terms of Digital Twin, allows us to open dialogues with multiple disciplines "other" than Drawing, as presented in this contribution, where the interoperable management of data (between people and between tools) is placed at the center of the knowledge and planning activities of a territory, a city, or a building in terms of resilience and energy saving. For this to happen, a review of the curricula is necessary to strengthen the role of the Drawing, as an idea with a line around it, that is, as a language able of stimulating and training students to correlate and synthesize the data they receive from different teachings using appropriate tools and methods.

Digital Twins are conceptualised in the academic technical discourse as real-time realistic digital representations of physical entities. Originating from product engineering, the Digital Twin quickly advanced into other fields, including the life sciences and earth sciences. Digital Twins are seen by the tech sector as the new promising tool for efficiency and optimisation, while governmental agencies see it as a fruitful means for improving decision-making to meet sustainability goals. A striking example of the latter is the European Commission who wishes to delegate a significant role to Digital Twins in addressing climate change and supporting Green Deal policy. As Digital Twins give rise to high expectations, ambitions, and are being entrusted important societal roles, it is crucial to critically reflect on the nature of Digital Twins. In this article, we therefore philosophically reflect on Digital Twins by critically analysing dominant conceptualisations, the assumptions underlying them, and their normative implications. We dissect the concept and argue that a Digital Twin does not merely fulfil the role of being a representation, but is in fact a steering technique used to direct a physical entity towards certain goals by means of multiple representations. Currently, this steering seems mainly fuelled by a reductionist approach focused on efficiency and optimisation. However, this is not the only direction from which a Digital Twin can be thought and, consequently, designed and deployed. We therefore set an agenda based on a critical understanding of Digital Twins that helps to draw out their beneficial potential, while addressing their potential issues.

In acknowledging its societal development and its admiration for everything from the West, we can see where Singapore’s local systems changed. By identifying when design became relevant we can see how the government reacted to a key pivotal moment, that particular moment was during the 1980s.
