Abstract
This special issue contains a selection of papers presented at the 4th INTUITION International VR/VE Conference. The papers selected in this special issue have been reviewed by the INTUITION conference program committee members and the papers reflect experimental work in the field of AR and VR. INTUITION is one of the largest European Networks of Excellence dealing with VR and AR in Europe and the readers will surely appreciate to read some work being developed in this area.

The Proceedings of The 3rd International Conference on Virtual Reality 15-16 NOVEMBER 2021 HARRAN UNIVERSITY, SANLIURFA, TURKEY ISBN: 978-605-86579-1-5 We have been very pleased to have the opportunity to arrange the 3rd edition of the International Conference on Virtual Reality. International Conference on Virtual Reality (VR) started in 2019 to bring together leading and industrial researchers, scientist, engineers, practitioners and students from universities, research institutes, industries and organizations all around the world to exchange their latest research ideas, methods, findings and to share their experiences. Virtual Reality (VR) let us our dreams become true. Today, technologies at an unprecedented pace in our century enable us to experience the past, present and future using virtual reality. It is true that virtual reality has been around for more than a half century. However, only recent related hardware and software has reached the required maturity level for delivering the feeling of reality. We hope that this conference will have a tangible effect on the future development of virtual reality, augmented reality and other related technologies. Virtual and augmented reality technologies have entered a new near-commodity era, accompanied by massive commercial investments, but still are subject to numerous open research questions. This special issue of IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications aims at broad views to capture the state of the art, important achievements, and impact of several areas in these dynamic disciplines. It contains three original articles that consider important aspects of VR/AR technologies and outline future research opportunities. These are special times for virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). These technologies have just entered the life and the imagination of general audiences in a spectacular way. Only two years ago, hardly anybody-apart from some specialists and geeks-had experienced headmounted displays, and such headsets were still considered futuristic and expensive gadgets, limited to research or purpose-built application use. But today, anybody can purchase a complete VR setup at various consumer electronics price points at a neighborhood or online electronics retailer. These devices come complete with sophisticated and effective display and tracking technologies, and showcase impressive 3D contents and experiences, realistic and artistic. AR is following suit, with great promise and technologically advanced prototypes from major industrial players that are heavily invested in the technology.

From 1st to 6th June 2008, the Dagstuhl Seminar 08231 Virtual Realities was held in the International Conference and Research Center (IBFI), Schloss Dagstuhl. Virtual Reality (VR) is a multidisciplinary area of research aimed at interactive human-computer mediated simulations of arti cial environments. Typical applications include simulation, training, scienti c visualization, and entertainment. An important aspect of VR-based systems is the stimulation of the human senses typically sight, sound, and touch such that a user feels a sense of presence (or immersion) in the virtual environment. Di erent applications require di erent levels of presence, with corresponding levels of realism, sensory immersion, and spatiotemporal interactive delity. During the seminar, several participants presented their current research, and ongoing work and open problems were discussed. Abstracts of the presentations given during the seminar as well as abstracts of seminar results and ideas are put toge...

This report documents the program and the outcomes of Dagstuhl Seminar 13241 “Virtual Realities”. The main goal of the five day seminar was to bring together leading experts and promising young researchers to discuss current challenges and future directions in the field of virtual and augmented reality. The seminar was organized as series of individual presentations and seven working groups. Abstracts of the presentations and working group reports are collected in this report. Seminar 09.–14. W hat can virtual reality and augmented reality technologies do for us? Can they help us make better use of computers? Will they ever improve the quality of our lives? What kind of immersive interfaces could reshape the way we communicate with computers? How far along are we on that road, and what remains to be done? At the IEEE Virtual Reality 2001 conference, we organized a workshop on the future of VR and AR interfaces that addressed these questions. Its main areas of focus were conversational user interfaces, natural interaction, 3D interaction techniques, haptics, augmented and mixed reality, and mobile and wearable interfaces. Here, we want to mix facts with fancy in looking at tomorrow's interface technology. Today's research paves the road for technological possibilities that go beyond the caves and cables, glasses and gloves, and pixels and polygons that still dominate research in VR and AR-possibilities that can assist you in virtually all situations of life.
