Abstract
Professional and personal competencies are valid indicators to evaluate productive and human processes. Competencies are also a reference for the development of individuals, groups and organisations that are developed before and during the professional working commitments. This article discusses the main concepts related to the emotional competencies of a tennis coach and stresses their importance in daily work.

The importance of operational competencies of sport coaches is widely acknowledged in the literature, yet there appears to be a lack of research in this field. The purpose of this research study was to develop a competency scale for sport coaches. Based on literature regarding operational competencies of sport coaches, an empirical study was conducted to identify the most important competencies, using multiple-item indicators from previous studies. A quantitative research approach was employed, whereby a questionnaire survey was conducted in order to develop a competency scale for sport coaches. The findings of the study provide important insights into the operational competencies required by sport coaches based on an empirical investigation of the perceptions of sport coaches. The findings of this study can be implemented to develop training programmes for sport coaches; develop performance appraisal tools and assist coaches in addressing areas of deficiency regarding their ability...

Considering the limited attention paid to interpersonal aspects of emotions, this study explored coaches’ perceptions of athletes’ performance-related states and how they used this information for its regulation. Using a case study approach, three coach-athlete dyads from competitive tennis took part in one-on-one semi-structured interviews. Individualized profiling of psychobiosocial states was used to assess athletes’ states in most and least successful performances and as a way of data triangulation. Findings indicated that the coaches paid attention to bodily, motor-behavioural, and operational components of a performance state, and used this information to appropriately adapt their responses to the players’ needs, via the provision of positive reinforcement, and performance-related feedback. The coaches described themselves as calm, patient, and understanding; characteristics that appeared to be vital for the coach-athlete relationship and the coaches’ emotional competence. Fin...

In social psychology, self-assessment is the process of looking at oneself in order to assess aspects that are important to one's identity. It is one of the motives that drive self-evaluation, along with self-verification and self-enhancement. The review of literatures showed that participants would prefer to make highly accurate tasks which measured their abilities; however they will be more persistent in tasks which are lower in accuracy. The purpose and goal of the present study was to investigate the level of self-assessment of Greek tennis coaches on knowledge (theoretical and practical knowledge on tennis coaching), as well as their level of cooperation with other parties involved (physicians, parents) and the level of their training regarding issues relating to tennis. The sample comprised of 90 coaches' ages 20 to 52.The grouping results in two groups placed on the factorial axes diagonally in relation to the above mentioned group of variables. The first group is characterized by high selfassessment, good cooperation and large number of seminars. This group (60 individuals) covers the majority of coaches. The second group (30 individuals) is characterized by lack of self-confidence, lack of cooperation and lack of attendance in training and sports events. The first group (60 individuals), present a high degree of selfassessment on both a theoretical and practical level.). The second group shows a universality of views on various issues. This group is characterized by a low level of self-esteem and its members assess accordingly the level of their cooperation with other factors (physicians, parents, management).
The main goal of this study was to reveal the basic psychometric properties of the imported Dutch Youth Version of the Psychological Skills Inventory for Sports (PSIS–Youth), applied on Croatian samples of athletes, to establish the relationship among different psychological skills, to find the differences in psychological skills between trainers and recreational table tennis players, as well as according to the education level. Finally, we tried to predict the satisfaction with life with set of psychological skills. We have examined a total of 86 coaches of various sports in Croatia during the seminar for coaches in Croatian Olympic Academy and 86 recreational table tennis players that play in SOKAZ. The research revealed the existence of six latent dimensions of the Croatian adaptation of the PSIS–Youth (PSIS–Youth Cro). Relatively coherent set of psychological skills may reflect successful athlete. The coaches are better than table tennis players in anxiety control/ confidence, m...

ABSTRACT Most organizations constantly search for ways to improve the capabilities of their leaders so as to keep pace with the ever-changing business environment. Leaders often lack effective leadership behaviour; therefore, they need effective interventions to develop their emotional and social intelligence competencies. The relevance of emotional intelligence (EI), also often referred to as ‘emotional and social intelligence’, to effective leadership behaviour in organizations is supported by numerous studies Daniel Goleman has identified six different leadership styles, one of which is coaching. Having managers who can coach is recognized by more and more companies as an essential requirements for successful people management. In business in the future a coaching style of leadership could become so universal that it is just the normal way people manage others. However asking someone who is emotionally unintelligent to coach others is a bit like asking someone who has just passed their driving test to take a formula 1 car out on the road. many organizations assume that their managers should coach others because they know more about the technical aspects of the job, and that's why they become mangers in the first place. Applying this false belief to a coaching situation is potentially a big mistake. How well you manage yourself and how effective you are at managing relationships with others. T o be truly effective coach, an individual needs to have a high level of emotional intelligence combined with the right knowledge, skills and experience of coaching others. This combination will produce an emotional intelligence coach, an authentic coach who helps coaches to change and develop their performance. The aims of this study were to examine: (a) whether coach leadership behaviours predict athletes' use of coping and (b) whether coping predicts athletes' emotional outcomes in competition. A sample of 180 table tennis players (Mage = 33.87; SD = 16.64; 149 men and 31 women) voluntarily participated in the study. A partial least square path modelling (PLS-PM) approach was used to examine the relationships between the study variable. The results showed that: (a) coach democratic behaviour was significantly related to task-oriented coping; (b) task-oriented coping was significantly related to excitement and happiness; (c) distraction-oriented coping was significantly related to anxiety, dejection and anger. As a whole, PLS-PM results suggested that coach democratic behaviour could be the better style in relationship with positive coping and emotion outcomes in table tennis players.

The purpose of this study was to determine the rela tionship between emotional intelligence and coaching efficacy of university coaches. Therefore, 120 coaches (60 male and 60 female) were selected randomly and completed emotional intellige nce (Syberyashring, 1986) and the coaching efficacy questionnaires. Data were analyzed by desc riptive statistics and inferential (Pierson correlation, and single-variable and multivariate rwith SPSS 16 software (P<0.05). Suggested hypothesis showed that the scale and subs cales of coaches’ emotional intelligence are associated with the scale and subscales of coaching efficacy. The coaches’ emotional intelligence was considered as a good predict of co aching efficacy. Generally speaking, there is a significance relationship between emotional intel ligence as a variable affecting the coaching efficacy.
