Rabbi Ben Zion Abba Shaul, head of the Porat Yosef Yeshiva and one of the country's leading Sephardi rabbis, died yesterday in Jerusalem. He was 75.
Thousands of mourners followed his remains from the Porat Yosef Yeshiva in the Old City to the Sanhedria Cemetery, where he was buried beside his late wife. Approximately 25 people fainted due to the heat during the funeral and procession, and one person had a heart attack.
Abba Shaul, who served as president of the Shas-oriented El Hama'ayan educational system, was born in Jerusalem and from an early age studied at the yeshiva which he eventually went on to lead. …
