I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman. My research interest is water and soil remediation. Currently, I am working on the remediation of heavy metal contaminated soil by the incorporation of electrokinetic process into soil washing . Besides that, I also study the feasibility of approaching electrode assisted electrokinetic process as a pretreatment method in soil volume reduction before other treatment technologies such as stabilization and solidification is applied. Other than electrokinetic process, I am also involved in the application of hydrophobic ionic liquid as liquid membrane for the removal of organic compound and heavy metals from water.

High iron (Fe2+) concentration in groundwater is a severe issue in many regions of the world. Thi... more High iron (Fe2+) concentration in groundwater is a severe issue in many regions of the world. This study attempts to investigate the effectiveness of biosorbents derived from longan peel (LP), pomelo peel (PP) and jackfruit peel (JP) for the adsorption of Fe2+ from aqueous solution in various forms. A batch adsorption study was carried out with an initial Fe2+ concentration of 10 mg/L for 2 h. The results showed that the highest removal efficiency was achieved for PP and its biochar at 97.38% and 99.45%, respectively. High removal efficiency implied that PP contained favourable characteristics for the adsorption of Fe2+. Under the scanning electron microscope (SEM), the surface structure of PP displayed visible dimensions with a relatively large pore size compared with LP and JP. Characterisation study using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) reveals that the carboxylate groups and ester carbonyl band participated in the adsorption process. Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd in Malaysia uses "River Bank Filtration" (RBF) technology to harvest hyporheic water. RBF treatment removes turbidity of the river water through river bed acting as a filter, but is unable to remove the Fe from the harvested water. This work proposes a technology to reduce Fe concentration in the extracted water using granular activated carbon in a laboratory scale rotating packed bed contactor (RPBC). Taguchi method was used for optimizing operating conditions for adsorption of Fe onto activated carbon in RPBC system. Taguchi optimisation results showed that a removal efficiency of 87% Fe from a 50 mg Fe/L concentration could be achieved by RPBC at initial pH of 6.5, feed rate of 40 L/h, rotating speed of 1600 rpm and packing density of 357 kg/m 3 .
