Buildings are one of the worlds largest consumers of energy and in developing countries huge numbers of new buildings are being constructed every year. One of the major barriers to better building energy efficiency is lack of aiding tools during the primary design stage. A major barrier during design process of a building has been the difficulty in finding the available suitable programs. ENERGY-10 overcomes this hurdle by automating many of the timeconsuming tasks, shortening the time required from hours or days to minutes. This paper describes the FE modeling and analysis for the design of 2.5kW 100 krpm 2-phase perman... more This paper describes the FE modeling and analysis for the design of 2.5kW 100 krpm 2-phase permanent magnet brushless motor intended to be used as a high-speed turbine. The electromagnetic characteristics and performance of the motor such as back-emf, cogging torque, inductance and output torque are computed in 2-D finite element analysis. Further investigation and analysis are also given for the estimation of rotor eddy current losses, which is very critical for high speed machine. Then, a comparison of rotor eddy current losses is made between typical high-speed 3-phase and 2-phase permanent magnet brushless machines. The FE results, for similar rated power and dimensions, show that the 2-phase permanent magnet brushless motor exhibits a significantly lower rotor eddy current losses than the 3-phase motor.

Road transport represents one of the greatest areas of challenge for energy efficiency. A growing... more Road transport represents one of the greatest areas of challenge for energy efficiency. A growing percentage of petrol usage is due to consumption in the transportation sector. However, in other sectors, petrol has been recently partially or totally substituted by other fuels. The need for worldwide action to achieve energy efficiency in the transportation sector has been recognized by the agencies of the United Nations and other international governmental and non-governmental organizations. Transportation is one of the key factors for the growth and development of Malaysian economy. Currently, more than 80% of primary energy consumption based on fossil fuels and demand stays high and is supposed continually grow in the future. Even if technology developments eventually able to reduce specific consumption, world energy demand is likely to increase in line with its population. This sector also accounts for a substantial amount of air pollution in cities and contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. This paper aims to analyze factors influencing the pattern and emission level of energy consumption in the transportation sector of Malaysia and extrapolates the total energy demand and vehicular emissions.

The attractiveness of this configuration is the used of a microcontroller to generate sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) pulses. The difference amplitude modulation ratio a m starting from 0.3 until over modulation with 2 KHz switching frequency was implemented and tested. Selected results from the experimental prototype will be presented. The result shows the relationship between amplitude modulation ratio with total harmonic distortion (THD) and dead time period.

This paper presents the development of single phase sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) micr... more This paper presents the development of single phase sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) microcontroller-based inverter. The attractiveness of this configuration is the used of a microcontroller to generate sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) pulses. Microcontroller is able to store the required commands to generate the necessary waveforms to control the frequency of the inverter through proper design of switching pulses. The SPWM technique was used to produce pure sinusoidal wave of voltage and current output. This inverter is designed to be either for stand-alone or for grid connected from a direct supply of photovoltaic (PV) cells. In this paper SPWM switching technique is first reviewed. Subsequently control circuit and power circuit for inverter are discussed. Finally the experimental results are discussed. The 200W designed prototype of the inverter was tested with the resistive load and found that total harmonic distortion (THD) is less than 4 % for voltage and 8 % for current.
