Unexpectedly forced to a long process of reflection imposed by the financial crisis of the first ... more Unexpectedly forced to a long process of reflection imposed by the financial crisis of the first decades of this century, architecture professionals are recovering their leadership in the future of cities, as well as their presence in other professional fields to which they had dedicated less attention in favor of new construction during the second half of the 20th century. These issues are developing in parallel with other changes in the profession, some of them common to other disciplines such as teamwork, remotely and gradually in English; and others specific to architecture such as the growing appreciation of curiosity, proactivity and a critical spirit. These characteristics make them professionals magnificently prepared for any future scenario, although in terms of architecture, said future is increasingly more concrete in the growing importance of heritage and sustainability that have reformulated their definitions.

El desigual coneixement sobre la seua història farà que ens atrevim a parlar més o menys quan es debat sobre la matèria retrospectivament. Però a l'hora de parlar de l'arquitectura actual, tothom té una opinió que sovint vé acompanyada de la seua visió particular de cóm haurien de ser les coses en un futur. Per aquest motiu, i perquè no és gaire freqüent trobar treballs amb una clara voluntat prospectiva pel que fa al disseny de l'hàbitat humà, hem volgut dedicar aquest número 26 de l'Anuari de l'Associació Borrianenca de Cultura a l'arquitectura que encara no tenim, a l'arquitectura que ve. La guerra civile spagnola fu il primo conflitto militare con incursioni aeree usate contro la pop... more La guerra civile spagnola fu il primo conflitto militare con incursioni aeree usate contro la popolazione civile. La successiva dittatura trascurò queste infrastrutture e molte furono distrutte o sepolte. Oggi molti comuni spagnoli hanno deciso di recuperare e valorizzare i rifugi come simboli di concordia. Quelli che sono sopravvissuti sono rimasti nascosti e ogni traccia dei loro ingressi originali è stata cancellata. Questo è il caso del Rifugio Antiaereo del Camí d'Onda a Borriana, in Spagna, la cui rampa di accesso originale è completamente scomparsa a metà degli anni '40. Gli autori hanno raccolto la sfida di progettare un nuovo accesso che dovrebbe soddisfare molti fattori decisivi che coinvolgono aspetti di progettazione storica, sociale, tecnica e urbana.

An unbraced frame is regarded as the one without a bracing system to avoid the horizontal displac... more An unbraced frame is regarded as the one without a bracing system to avoid the horizontal displacement of its nodes. These displacements progressively increase due to their interaction with axial load (second-order effects) reducing the column´s resistant capacity and can lead to the global frame instability. At the present work the Eurocodes criteria related to the way to approach its design will be displayed. Different iterative processes that take into account second-order effects will be exposed as well as a non-linear procedure based on an incremental load application. This procedure will be applied over an unbraced frame under gravity and wind loads with reinforced concrete beams and steel-concrete composite columns. Two geometrical models will be used: one of them starts from geometry without deformation and the other one takes into account the initial imperfections. El seu nom anuncia a la comunitat científica la publicació d’un únic número cada any. Però, fonamentalment, és un homenatge a una altra publicació, que ara conclou el seu periple, i de la que aquest nou ANUARI es declara orgullosa hereva.
The Spanish Civil War was the first military conflict with air raids used against the civilian po... more The Spanish Civil War was the first military conflict with air raids used against the civilian population. Franco's subsequent dictatorship neglected these infrastructures and most of them were destroyed or buried. Nowadays many Spanish municipalities have decided to recover and place value on shelters as symbols of concord. Those that have survived have remained covered up and any trace of their original entrances was erased by new urban operations at the street level. This is the case of the Camí d'Onda Air-raid Shelter in Borriana, Spain, whose original entrance ramp completely disappeared in the mid-1940s. The authors took up the challenge of designing a new access which should meet many constraints which involved historical, social, technical and urban design aspects.

This article shows the influence of axial force eccentricity on high strength concrete columns de... more This article shows the influence of axial force eccentricity on high strength concrete columns design. The behavior of columns made of normal, middle and high strength concrete with slenderness values between 20 and 60 under an eccentric axial force has been studied. Structural analysis has been developed by means of software which considers both geometrical and mechanical non-linearity. The sequence of points defined by increasing values of axial force and bending moment produced by eccentricity has been represented on the cross-section interaction diagram until failure for each tested column. Then, diagrams depicting the relationship between failure axial force and column's slenderness have been drawn. The loss of bearing capacity of the member for normal and middle strength columns when compared with the bearing capacity of their cross-section is more noticeable as axial force eccentricity assumes higher values. L’adequada preservació de tot allò relacionat amb la nostra història s’inicia de manera decidida ... more L’adequada preservació de tot allò relacionat amb la nostra història s’inicia de manera decidida al segle XVIII, quan moviments com ara la Il·lustració i figures com la de l’alemany Johann Joachim Winckelmann n’assenten el concepte i estructuren els continguts. Des de llavors, els coneixements sobre el nostre passat han anat augmentant de manera continuada, alhora que ho feia la consciència per preservar-los i per tindre cura de tot allò físic que n’ha estat testimoni i n’és prova. A l’actualitat, aquesta adequada preservació té una importància cabdal.
