In the past two decades, qualitative methods have been widely used for identifying unknown scatterers as well as analyze the inverse problems. Linear Sampling Method (LSM) is one of the new powerful optimization algorithms in the category of the qualitative optimization methods which has been used to reconstruct inclusion in homogeneous materials before, but there is no specified attempt to apply this method to interpretation of solving inverse problem. The present study focuses on using the LSM in case of a type of heterogeneity in the material. This paper is concerned with using the finite element method (FEM) and the Linear Sampling Method (LSM) in order to reconstruct scatterers in a composite material. To verify using LSM in such materials, a twodimensional plate consisting of four materials with different mechanical material specifications is considered and a hole as an inclusion in it is characterized and analyzed under static excitations. It is found that the Linear Sampling Method can do solve this type of inverse problems as well as other rigorous qualitative approaches in a simple manner and with very good efficiency.
