The problems of loss of the rock mass, and in general the soil, the road cutting are usually handled using protective measures. Successful solving of this problem depends on the choice of the optimal solution. Selection of optimal solution can be obtained after a detailed analysis of the condition on the slope cutting. These conditions consist of a set of relevant factors, with smaller or larger degree of influence on the current instability and the instability that occurs over time. The paper presents the methodological principles of analysis and selection of the optimal solution of geotechnical protection on slope of road cutting.

Slope reparation in disintegrated and surface-altered rock mass is a frequently occurring problem in engineering practice. A high-quality solution requires engineering-geological mapping of the current state, a detailed slope stability inspection, as well preparing a reparation project. In this paper, the authors have proposed a design and construction model for repairing the altered and unstable rock mass. The project design is based on field and laboratory investigations regarding the state of the rock mass and its discontinuities, establishing the failure criteria along with the estimations regarding the strength and deformability of the rock mass and the condition of discontinuities required for geostatic analysis, as well as based on a repair proposal. Monitoring is important for assessing the stability of the ground and for confirming the validity of the design during the construction and operation of structures. The ideal monitoring system for projects in Rock and Geotechnical Engineering would be able to monitor the behavior of small to extensive areas continuously and automatically with high accuracy. In addition, the costs would be low and the system would be easy to handle. Satellite technology has the potential to realize the above monitoring system by combining it with conventional geotechnical instruments. In this paper, satellite technology for displacement monitoring, i.e., GPS and SAR, is firstly outlined and then the concept of spatiotemporal continuous displacement monitoring is introduced. The use of both satellite technology and geotechnical instruments is effective for geotechnical monitoring. Practical applications of GPS for landslide monitoring and collaborative researches using DInSAR with Balkan countries are described.

Kao predmet istraživanja u ovom radu, izdvojen je stijenski materijal iz majdana lokalnog naziva „Suljo Čilić“ i jednog dijela majdana „Padešnica“ lokalnog naziva „Padešnica Crna“, koji predstavljaju dio masiva Jablaničkog gabra. Stijenski materijal iz ovih majdana izabran je zbog prisutnih razlika u jednoosnoj čvrstoći na pritisak, a kako bi se dao odgovor zašto se u istom stijenskom materijalu pojavljuju značajne razlike u vrijednostima ovog parametra. U radu su prikazani rezultati ispitivanja jednoosne čvrstoće na pritisak i mineraloško-petrografske građe krupnozrnog i sitnozrnog gabra sa ovog ležišta, iz majdana lokalnih naziva „Suljo Čilić“ i „Padešnica Crna“. Nakon izvođenja opita jednoosne čvrstoće na pritisak i analize rezultata, izvršena je detaljna mineraloško-petrografska analiza površina loma karakterističnih uzoraka. Jablanica gabbro represents the highest quality architectural building stone in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Knowledge of the physical and mechanical characteristics of gabbro is an important prerequisite for the proper usage of this rock material. This paper presents a brief review of the geological characteristics Jablanica gabbro deposit, with distinct mines where exploration is performed. Paper presents the study of volume weight and uniaxial compressive strength of the standard samples, with a detailed statistical processing of the results. The obtained values of volume weight and uniaxial compressive strength are placed in correlation, in order to define the relationship between these two parameters. Correlation analysis did not produce the characteristic correlation, but pointed to the existence of dependence between these two parameters.
