Deixis is one of the important studies in pragmatics. It is a word or phrase that can refer to a person, place, or time in the speakers' utterance. Usually, each deixis has a different function.  That function relies on the context of deixis both implicitly and explicitly. Then, the objective of this research is to find the types of deixis and divulge the function which is applied in the speaker utterance. The writers used the descriptive qualitative method to analyze deixis in the two soundtracks lyric of The Greatest Showman movie, they are the greatest show and This is me. The results of the analysis found that there are five types of deixis in the two lyrics; person deixis, spatial deixis, temporal deixis, discourse deixis, and social deixis. The functions showed that deixis provides the information and gives a reference to the deixis word. This analysis is important to understand the speaker's intends in the song by the use of context deixis.

This research tries to analyze the morphological process of derivational affixes in a popular LINE Webtoon comic titled Annarasumanara authored by Il Kwon Ha. This research uses a synchronic descriptive approach in which data are collected and explained naturally. The objects of this research are the conversations in Annarasumanara from episode 1 to 10. The results of the research are 53 words that changed word classes, involving 7 derivational prefixes and 47 derivational suffixes. The suffix “-ly” is the most dominantly used in the Webtoon. This study revealed not only the detailed morphological process of affix analysis but also the grammatical categories of words and meanings.

The objective of this experimental study is to find out the effect of instructional models and learning styles toward learners’ English writing skill. The research was conducted at the English Department, the Academy of Foreign Language BSI Jakarta Indonesia. The results of this research indicated that: (1) there is a significant different improvement of English writing skill between group of learners who were taught by using the STAD Cooperative Learning model and those who were taught by using The Lecture Model, (2) English writing skill of the visual learners taught by using STAD Cooperative Learning model is better than those taught by using The Lecture Model, (3) English writing skill of the auditory learners taught by using The Lecture Model is better than those taught by using STAD Cooperative learning model, and (4) there is an interaction effect between the instructional model and learning style towards English writing skill achievement.

Writing has been one of the most significant skill to acquire by high school students. In fact, students still find it difficult due to weak mastery of writing components and limited practice as well as exposure and facility. On these ground, utilizing MALL in hybrid learning setting is assumed to enhance their writing skill. Employing qualitative approach with classroom action research design conducted in 3 cycles, 20 high school students were involved in this study. The data were obtained using observation, test and interview. The findings suggested that online writing application can help promoting students’ writing skill proven by the score increase from cycle 1 to 3 as well as their participation. The students either perceived the MALL application positively.

This article discusses phonological translation in fiction text of The Hunger Games Novel translated by Hetih Rusli. This research investigates translation acquisition of transferring or replacing the Source Language into the Target Language as the second language. In analyzing the novel of The Hunger Games, the writers allude the process of translation that is produced by translator using the methods of phonological translation. The reseach used qualitative method and the data is taken from the novel of Suzanne Collins: The Hunger Games from both English and Indonesian version. The purpose of this paper is to find out the meaning of words from the Source Language into the Target Language using the method of phonological translation. The research aimed at improving students’ speaking skill using picture-cued technique. Classroom action research with 3 cycles was employed.  The research subject consisted of 20 students of tenth grade. The technique of data collection consisted of observation, test and interview. The finding signified that the students’ speaking skill is improved. In cycle I, only 70% of students passed the passing grade. In cycle 2, 90% passed the grade and in cycle 3, 100% passed the grade. The significant of this research did not only explore about picture-cued technique but also identified students’ response of the application of picture-cued technique in English speaking learning. The result of the research showed students’ positive responses to the use of the technique. This further means that the implementation of picture-cued is successful in enhancing students’ speaking skill.

This research discussed the effectiveness of learning English writing using the Student Teams-Achievement Divisions (STAD) and lecture-based learning method. The two methods were applied in two classes of second-year students, and they were given a writing test over one semester. The first class was using STAD and the second class with lecture-based learning. Around 80 students were classified into visual and auditory learning styles based on the questionnaires filled in. The results in the statistical analysis provide important insights into the learning achievement of both visual and auditory learners modeled by STAD. Using the STAD method, they have accomplished considerably higher scores on academic writing achievement than the students who are taught by lecture-based learning. Therefore, it brings a positive effect and association with the students’ learning styles.

This study aims at deep-portraying the learning of reading skill at Universitas Terbuka (UT, literally Open University) Indonesia. The research was conducted from March 2014 to February 2015. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach conducted with ethnographic methods by adopting the method of Spradley. The data collecting techniques being used were observation, interview, and document analysis. Data is analyzed by using techniques such as domain, taxonomy, component, and theme analysis. The result of the analysis shows that the learning system implemented at UT is through the use of the Internet known as elearning or online tutorial is appropriate and involve many means to improve reading skills such as the presence of additional materials (initiation), online discussions, and digital library. The cultural finding which is continuously occuring within the learning process is the emerging new roles of teacher in e-learning based on classes. These roles include: (1) mastering the ICT and having the ability to handle technical problems on the technology; (2) having the ability to interact with students in written form; (3) becoming a motivator; and (3) giving written feedback to students.

Code switching during English interaction happens due to some reasons. One of the world issues in code switching is Singlish or SgE phenomenon. This research is aimed to contribute some findings in discourse particles that are commonly used in SgE interaction through code switching viewpoint. The data were taken from Crazy Rich Asians Novel, written by Singaporean, Kevin Kwan. The theories used in this research are from Lan (2017) which is used to analyze discourse particles in SgE and theory from Appel and Muysken (2006) to analyze type and function of code switching. Descriptive qualitative method is applied in this research. The results show that (1) there are 7 discourse particles found in this research:

The main objective of this study is to apply the teaching of speaking English through mind mapping strategy for the students at the English Department of Bina Sarana Informatika University. The participants included 20 students in the third semester. Speaking is an important skill in English language learning which is used by the students to communicate in their class and daily activities as a way of learning practice. By this mind mapping strategy, this paper aims at showing that this strategy can be implemented to get active speaking skills. The pros and cons of implementing the coronavirus disease vaccination in Indonesia could be taken into account because they sprung up remarkably and virally in social media like Twitter. Both of the pros and cons expressed on social media deserved to be analyzed by the researchers as a consideration of making government policy and to ensure that the policy was feasible to use. The technique that could be applied and combined to sentiment analysis was a word matching approach based on a lexicon dictionary (Lexicon-Based Approach). The stages of research carried out with Data Collection, Pre-processing, The Used Model, Experiment, and Model Assessment, as well as evaluation and validation of the results. The researchers crawled 1000 Indonesian language tweets data on the pros and cons of implementing Covid-19 vaccination using the R programming language with the keyword #vaksincorona and carried out a Text Cleaning Process. Then, it brought about the distribution of 472 training data and 528 testing data. Pre-processing was facilitated by Case Folding, Stemming, Tokenizing, and Stopword Removal. Using the Deep Learning Model, this study produced text classification in the positive and negative sentiments of pro and contra opinions. Based on the accuracy of the Deep Learning Model, the Confusion Matrix, and ROC Curve, the results showed that the accuracy value of the Deep Learning model was 88,83% and the AUC value was 0,955.
