Thus, the present study had as main

In a double-blind placebo-controlled crossover study, 13 male cyclists (26 ± 10 y, 71 ± 9 kg, 176 ± 6 cm) were randomized into 2 groups and received caffeine (CAF) capsules (6 mg.kg(-1)) or placebo (PLA) 60 min before performing 20-km time trials. Distance, speed, power, rpm, rating of perceived exertion (RPE), electromyography (EMG) of the quadriceps muscles and heart rate (HR) were continuously measured during the tests. In addition, BRUMS questionnaire was applied before and after the tests. Significant interactions were found in power and speed (P = 0.001), which were significantly higher at the end of the test (final 2 km) after CAF condition. A main effect of time (P = 0.001) was observed for RPE and HR, which increased linearly until the end of exercise in both conditions. The time taken to complete th...

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of hypertrophy-type resistance training (... more The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of hypertrophy-type resistance training (RT) on upper limb fatigue resistance in young adult men and women. 70.6±9.3 kg, and 176.8±6.4 cm) and 65 women (21.6±3.7 years, 58.8±11.9 kg, and 162.6±6.2 cm) underwent RT for 16 weeks. Training consisted of 10-12 whole body exercises with 3 sets of 8-12 repetitions maximum performed 3 times per week. Before and after the RT intervention participants were submitted to 1RM testing, as well as a fatigue protocol consisting of 4 sets at 80% 1RM on bench press (BP) and arm curl (AC). The sum of the number of repetitions accomplished in the 4 sets in each exercise was used to indicate fatigue resistance. There was a significant (p<0.05) time-by-group interaction in 1RM BP (men=+16%, women=+26%), however in 1RM AC no significant time-by-group interaction was observed (men=+14%, women=+23%). For the total number of repetitions, men and women showed a significant increase in BP (men=+16.3%, women=+10.5%) with no time-by-group interaction. The results suggest that the adaptation in maximal strength is influenced by sex in BP. On the other hand, for fatigue resistance, the individual's sex does not seem to influence outcomes either in BP or AC.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of different music genres on PFC oxygenation according to gender. Eighteen healthy volunteers (10 males and 8 females), aged 20-28 years (mean: 22.25 ± 2.34 years), participated in the study. They remained in silence, and hemoglobin levels in a linear scattering were recorded (O2Hb [oxyhemoglobin] and HHb [deoxyhemoglobin]). When this procedure was finished, music was played for 1.5 min. The results showed that different genres of music might change cortical oxygenation in several ways, and such modulation may be related to gender. We conclude that music modulated cortical oxygenation in the PFC in both the right and left hemispheres, and differences in cortical oxygenation were highly related to gender. Furthermore, referred and motivational songs can be considered the most important for increasing blood flow in the listening process.

Thus, the objective of this study was to investigate the effect of music in psychophysiological variables in adults during practice of physical activity following the recommenda-tions of ACSM/AHA. Participated of this study 10 healthy volunteers from masculine genre (22.3 ± 1.8 years, 175.0 ±5.5 cm and 74.8 ± 11.0 Kg) that did two experimental session with 30 minutes in a cyclesimulator with intensity corresponding to 60% of the heart reserve rate (HR training threshold), in two conditions: with music (M) and control (C). Was evaluated the variables: power output (WMED), heart rate variability (HRV), rate perception of effort (RPE) and mood status (MS) of volunteers. For the variables RPE, WMED, HRV was used the variance analyses test (ANOVA – two way) for re-peated measures followed by the post hoc of Bonforreoni and the Wilcoxon's test was used to compare the ME. The level of statistical significance was 5%. No differences were found in any variables WMED, HRV, RPE e MS of participants between conditions M and C (P > 0.05). Concluded that music don't was capable to change psychophysiological measures in submaximal effort.

However, this substance has been considered a nutritional ergogenic, since it is present in several drinks consumed daily, such as coffee, chocolate,

Design and procedures: Subjects were randomly assigned to one of the three groups: HIIE (n ¼ 15), steady-state exercise (SSE; n ¼ 15) or control (CONT; n ¼ 15). HIIE and SSE groups underwent a 15-week exercise intervention. Subjects: Forty-five women with a mean BMI of 23.2 ± 2.0 kg m À2 and age of 20.2 ± 2.0 years. Results: Both exercise groups demonstrated a significant improvement (Po0.05) in cardiovascular fitness. However, only the HIIE group had a significant reduction in total body mass (TBM), fat mass (FM), trunk fat and fasting plasma insulin levels. There was significant fat loss (Po0.05) in legs compared to arms in the HIIE group only. Lean compared to overweight women lost less fat after HIIE. Decreases in leptin concentrations were negatively correlated with increases in VO 2peak (r ¼ À0.57, Po0.05) and positively correlated with decreases in TBM (r ¼ 0.47; Po0.0001). There was no significant change in adiponectin levels after training. Conclusions: HIIE three times per week for 15 weeks compared to the same frequency of SSE exercise was associated with significant reductions in total body fat, subcutaneous leg and trunk fat, and insulin resistance in young women.

A second objective was to compare the variance of the spectral parameters (median frequency-MF) obtained by the FFT and WT during exercise. Twelve cyclists and non-cyclists performed a maximal incremental test to determine the peak power (W p) and electromyographic ...

Frequency domain analyses of changes in electromyographic (EMG) signals over time are frequently ... more Frequency domain analyses of changes in electromyographic (EMG) signals over time are frequently used to assess muscle fatigue. Fourier based approaches are typically used in these analyses, yet Fourier analysis assumes signal stationarity, which is unlikely during dynamic contractions. Wavelet based methods of signal analysis do not assume stationarity and may be more appropriate for joint time-frequency domain analysis. The purpose of this study was to compare Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) and ...
