This paper is concerned with the "Study of photoelasticity and a photoelastic theoretical investigation of the stress distribution in Square Blocks subjected to concentrated diagonal loads", a thesis topic by M.M. Frocht who developed the well-known semi empirical Shear Stress Difference method. Indeed, the use of the Beltrami-Michell methodology remains quick, when complemented by photoelasticity to acquire Dirichlet's conditions. The synergy of both methods is enhanced with the use of the finite difference method. In addition, a finite element analysis has provided results that will be a supplementary reference for validation. The results obtained have been of lower cost than those obtained by Frocht.

The coefficients of discharge of 30° inclined holes having a length to diameter ratio of 6, and rounded entries or exits have been measured for a range of crossflow conditions. The rounding radius varied from 0 to 1 hole diameters, and the crossflow Mach numbers from 0 to 0.5. Rounding the hole inlet was found to be beneficial, with increases of up to 15% being obtained at high coolant (inlet) side crossflow Mach numbers. Rounding the exit produced no significant benefit. The crossflow effects have been correlated using inlet and outlet additive loss coefficients. These reflect the changes in pressure drop across the hole necessary to maintain the hole mass flow rate when crossflows are applied. The correlated data have been incorporated in a computer program which gives good predictions of discharge coefficient in the presence of either a coolant crossflow or a mainstream crossflow or both.

Résumé La qualité des eaux de surface est sujette à de nombreuses fluctuations et par conséquence les gestionnaires sont souvent confrontés à des pics de pollution problématiques. À cet effet, nous présentons dans cette étude les résultats d’une exploration des séries d’analyses de la qualité des eaux de surface dans le bassin de la Tafna (Algérie). Nous avons retenu trois descripteurs de la qualité des eaux; la matière en suspension (MES), la conductivité et la demande chimique en oxygène (DCO). On dispose pour cette étude de séries de prélèvements instantanés d’une fréquence au moins mensuelle, couvrant une période de sept ans (avril 1995-mars 2002). This study investigates climatic and hydrologic changes of the Tafna basin, by using ten outputs of precipitation and temperature from RCMs of the Cordex-Africa project. Different methods of bias-correction (LS, LOCI, DM and VS) are compared to correct the bias of precipitation and temperature datasets to observations. The suitable method, DM, reduces the bias to 1.27 mm for precipitation and 0.06 and 0.7°C for minimum/maximum temperature, respectively. The bias-corrected precipitation and temperature datasets are introduced into the SWAT model, calibrated and validated on the Tafna basin with good Nash criteria (NSEoutlet = 0.83). The discharge is over or underestimated without bias-correction of RCM outputs, which highlights the necessity of applying bias-correction before using RCM outputs from Cordex-Africa for hydrological applications. The results show that the precipitation and discharge decreases, and temperature increases are more important with RCP 8.5 than with RCP 4.5, especially in the last decades of the 21st century.

Background Currently, several non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) were distinguished in polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). This present study aims to explore the potential function of lncRNA HOTAIRM1/miR-433-5p/PIK3CD in ovarian granulosa cells. Methods We analyzed the expression profiles of HOTAIRM1, miR-433-5p and PIK3CD in PCOS samples by enquiring GEO database. GSEA was applied to enrich the pathways related to PCOS. The target association between HOTAIRM1 and miR-433-5p or the binding association between miR-433-5p and PIK3CD were assessed by online prediction tools and a dual luciferase reporter assay. qPCR and western blotting assays were used to detect PIK3CD expression after HOTAIRM1 and miR-433-5p treatment. Climate change is expected to increase in the future in the Mediterranean region, including Algeria. The Tafna basin, vulnerable to drought, is one of the most important catchments ensuring water self-sufficiency in northwestern Algeria. The objective of this study is to estimate the evolution of hydrological components of the Tafna basin, throughout 2020–2099, compared to the period 1981–2000. The SWAT model (Soil and Water Assessment Tool), calibrated and validated on the Tafna basin with good Nash at the outlet 0.82, is applied to analyze the spatial and temporal evolution of hydrological components over the basin throughout 2020–2099. Ce travail est une contribution a la gestion des ressources en eau dans la Wilaya d’Oran a l’aide d’une analyse prospective sur  l’horizon 2012-2030. Quatre secteurs  dans la modelisation sont distingues : les menages, les services publics, l’industrie et le secteur agricole.  Concernant la demande d’eau potable et industrielle, le travail simule a travers des variantes alternatives les effets de l’evolution des parametres de base du modele (croissance demographique, taux de raccordement des habitations, taux d’occupation par logement, niveau des revenus, choix technologiques industriels,…). Le secteur agricole est ensuite integre dans le systeme hydraulique. Our work aims to contribute to the literature on the prospective study of the water balance in the Oran region, a major southern Mediterranean metropolis, by considering the socioeconomic dimension of this region and the dynamic of its climate change through 2011-2030. These two dimensions are important for the analysis of future changes in water stress in the region because they affect both the demand and the supply of the water resources. Unlike other studies, our methodological approach is based on an explicit modeling of the socioeconomic evolution in the region as well as of the dynamic of climate change. For this, we used a time-series modeling framework to predict the effects of change in climate. In addition to the assessment of the effects of the socioeconomic and climate changes on the water balance of the region. Our results, based on simulations using the Water Evaluation and Planning (WEAP) software, show that the current decoupling between the drinking sector from that of irrigation in the Oran region is not sustainable. Climate change will exacerbate this vulnerability. Only by integrating these two sectors, through a reuse of wastewater, can we consider the irrigation issue from a perspective of long-term sustainability in the region.
