In order to analyse the encyclopaedic significance of collections and museums, this study compares three Twentieth century narrative texts : Yoko Ogawa's The Museum of Silence, Joyce Carol Oates' « The Museum of Dr Moses » and Orhan Pamuk's The Museum of Innocence. It questions the tensions between knowledge, represented by the collections, and the contexts in which they figure, so as to gain a measure of their marginality.

Michel Houellebecq's La Carte et le Territoire considers the role of objects not only from an aesthetic standpoint but also involves them in a series of existential implications ranging from the destruction of human intimacy to the social and emotional alienation of the individual. We ask ourselves how the different systems of objects advocated throughout this novel intend on organizing and giving meaning to the world. This article aims above all to question the attitude of man towards matter and to examine the astonishing spectrum of relations to material objects that unfolds in this book.

“A literary study of the ‘Accident at Ménilmontant’”: James Weldon pays close attention to an excerpt of the ‘Second Walk’ of Jean-Jacques Rousseau's "Reveries of a solitary walker" in order to analyse its characteristics in terms of style and structure. In particular, he underlines the series of reversals and rhythmical variations that come into play in the scene’s ruptured movement and musical qualities.
