This paper showcases and discusses two new functionalities of EVT (Edition Visualization Technology), version 2: one improving the management of named entities (f.i. personal names) through the use of LOD resources such as FOAF and DBpedia; the other, providing integration of the published text with digital images of the textual primary sources accessed from online repositories (e.g. e-codices or digital libraries such as the Vaticana or the Ambrosiana) via the IIIF protocol

While its complete text can be found in the 10th Century "Vercelli Book", the poem is considerably older, and its oldest occurrence is carved (in runes) on the 7-8th Century Ruthwell Stone Cross. In this paper, we present the prototype of a web-based digital edition of the Dream of the Rood, as it appears on the Ruthwell Cross. The multimedia framework presents the highly detailed 3D model acquired with 3D Scanning technology, together with the transcription and translation of the runes that can be found on its surface. The textual and spatial information are linked through a system of bi-directional links called spots, that give the possibility to the user to have a free navigation over the multimedia content, keeping the 3D and textual data synchronized. The proposed work provides discussion and solution on two main issues related to digital editions: the integration of three dimensional content in the context of the presentation on the web platform of heterogeneous multimedia data, and the creation of an XML encoding that could account for the necessities of 3D data disposition, but keeping the encoding rules in the context of the standards of the community.

This approach is broadly generalisable and answers a number of long-standing issues surrounding the publication of data and results in DH: 1 It promotes the discovery and long-term survival of published data and results with no requirement for future maintenance; 2 It conforms to archival standards and principles; 3 It is fully available for future extension, addition, excerption, reuse, repurposing, or reanalysis by others without negotiation; 4 It ensures that data and contextual analysis are linked bi-directionally meaning that users are always able both to access the discrete data points from which a Humanities-focused analysis and commentary is build and understand each data point in the context of these larger synthetic research products.

These include some of the best known Anglo Saxon artifacts: • The Dream of the Rood and Elene, poems about the cross found in the Vercelli Book of Old English poetry and prose (a late tenth century, Southern English manuscript now in the cathedral library in Vercelli, near Turin, Italy); • The Ruthwell Cross, one of the best preserved Anglo Saxon stone crosses, which contains a version of the Rood poem in runic characters (late eighthcentury, now located in a specially built apse in Ruthwell Kirk, between Clarencefield and Ruthwell, near Dumfries); • The Bewcastle Cross (late eighthcentury, still on what is probably its original location in the churchyard of what is now St Cuthbert's Church, Bewcastle near Carlisle); • The Brussels Reliquary or Altar Cross (eleventhcentury, of southern English manufacture, now in the treasury of the St Michael and St Gudula Cathedral, Brussels).

Making ALIM available to a large community of scholars and researchers, on the one side, represents the first step to reduce the lack of resources for Medieval Latin in CLARIN and, on the other side, constitutes an unprecedented contribution to not only linguistic investigations, but also to the studies of the culture and science at the basis of the Western European society. The paper describes the adopted approach aiming to keep intact the structure of the archive and its metadata, which are both accurately mirrored into the ILC4CLARIN repository in order to maintain existing access practices of the users. This structure can be found in exactly the same state within the CLARIN VLO. Finally, the paper illustrates the advantages of experimenting with some ALIM data, once introduced within the CLARIN Language Resource Swit...
