The aim of the work is thus to reflect on the social dynamics that inform and are informed by dystopian cinema on the one hand, and the potential propagandistic content that such works can convey on the other. The thesis advanced here is that whereas "classical" dystopian cinematography aimed to denounce the outcomes of potential futures, contemporary dystopia, if analyzed from such a perspective, constitutes rather an apology or denunciation of the present itself.

Such a dream-that of a perfect order, fed by the ancestral longing to realize the earthly paradise-, when headed by what Kracauer calls the "empty and abstract ratio" of contemporary society, can turn into an oppressive planning nightmare. On the dialectical interpenetration of ratio and dream, legal and supra-legal, thus, depends not only the utopian or dystopian outcome of any achievement, but also any possible action on social reality. If the current political-economic ratio produces the narcotizing nightmare of urban apartheid, hostile architecture, gated-communities, and gentrification, at the edges of the urban legal order, the unconscious aspirations, transcendental yearnings, and innermost dreams of the collective rise forcefully up to the surface of social life. Any attempt to suppress them is always countered by the emergence of an irrepressible repressed, which not only reaffirms what sought to be removed, but also unmasks the repression itself.

Since his early conviction that superficial phenomena allowed an exclusive and immediate access to the fundamental substance of reality, the categories of in-between and surface (Oberfläche) will provide indeed the main framework of Kracauer’s wide-ranging thought. Reflecting upon these, he foresaw, as Benjamin later did, that the increase in rationality and the dissolution of traditional values did not correspond to the dissolution of myth and the emancipation from superstition but, rather, to their re-production and re-enforcement: which justifies the persistence and resurgence, in a hyper-rationalized society, of several anti-scientific and magical beliefs. Forms that Kracauer unmasked as essentially reactionary, as are the current and growing ones which deny the most elementary and established scientific truths. Kracauer’s lesson, thus, could be very topical as it reminds us that the excesses and distortions of rationality cannot be fought and defeated by irrationality.

The reflection of Pareysonwho promoted the introduction of Dostoevsky's thought into the academic circles of Turin, being convinced that philosophy cannot avoid confronting the issues it exploresconsists of three main moments: the experience of good and evil, the experience of freedom and the experience of God. Starting from consideration of Dostoevsky's characters as ideas, Pareyson proposes a new and coherent philosophical interpretation of his work, which can undoubtedly be compared to those of Ivanov, Berdjaev, Evdomikov, Šestov. His observations around the Legend of the Grand Inquisitor and the "refutation of Ivan"which, according to him, constitute the most significant and theoretically prolific moments of Dostoevsky's productionseem unaffected by the flow of time and could still represent a valuable and indispensable contribution to the understanding not only of the great Russian author, but of human nature itself.

Through a philosophical rereading of James Barrie's masterpiece, I will try to demonstrate the duplicity of this relationship: if on the first hand, distance can cloud memory, on the other it can constitute its essential condition. Therefore, since memory is not a linear course, but a discontinuous and intermittent image, even the distance that separates us from past events, and from our own past, is by no means static and immutable.

Its purpose is to investigate the interdependent relationships between power, space, and nature, through the lens of the garden: an unbuilt but enclosed space, from whose geometries derives the form of the city itself. Gardens, indeed, do not give order to nature, they rather give order to our relationship with nature. From the garden we derive the idea of assigning to a designed and artificially created space the faculty to inspire, prepare or induce certain attitudes, states of mind, or activities into Man. This has been, essentially, the belief of generations of urbanists and utopians, who shared the idea that men could change and thus improve-by organizing a priori their space.

Parole chiave: Giardino; Regno; Teologia politica; Agamben; Paradiso perduto This essay aims to explore the relationship between Eden and earthly gardens and, more generally, those between power and Garden, by starting from some of the theses stated by Giorgio Agamben in Il Regno e il Giardino. The intention is to demonstrate that, unlike what he claims, the Garden is not extraneous to the profane power and represents rather its most faithful reflection: the surface where signs of its domination and decline emerge. As we will see, moreover, power and capitalistic religion have incorporated the paradigm of the Garden, reducing it to a merchandise and involving it in the same culpable destiny of man. Therefore, it is only because of its indissoluble bond with power that the Garden can be assumed as an effective political allegory able to offer a critical perspective on the real.

The blind faith in progress, as a submission to a nomos imbued with mythical elements, is decline... more The blind faith in progress, as a submission to a nomos imbued with mythical elements, is declined today through concepts and slogans which participate in the umpteenth ideological mystification of the technocratic society of consumption, aimed at legitimizing and justifying the unconditional domination and exploitation of Nature, even through the (wholly fraudulent) promotion of its protection. The present paper intends to show how even such escamotages, far from breaking the logic of "growth for growth", move rather in the direction of what Löwith called a total denaturalization of the world and man, that is to say the triumph of the Apparatenwelt of Günther Anders. If Man interacts with the natural environment solely through the mediation of a variegated set of techniques, in fact, Nature itself disappears from its subjective horizon and he does nothing but interact with these techniques and with the techno-nature which they originate.

From Thales to Kant, from Lucretius to Schmitt, from Hegel to Arendt, from Freud to Bachelard, countless thinkers have made the sea an object of interest in their philosophical reflections. The sea, however, is not an "object" among many. It is also, and above all, an equivocal, hybrid dimension, extremely multiform and difficult to deal with. On the one hand, the sea shows the unknown to plough, thus agreeing to that yearning for knowledge that is the fundamental motor of philosophy, which moves between curiosity, wonder, and amazement. At the same time, the sea presents itself, by definition, as the place of danger, and refers to an unfathomable abyss that destines human being to vulnerability and uncertainty. The seascape is, at one and the same time, a space of landings and defeats, a place of conquest and shipwreck; it is that open space to be contemplated, according to a well-known metaphor, from a safe distance. Now pelagus, now ocean, it symbolises, with its ancipital character, the main condition of existence of organic life and the threat of its own extinction. The topic, so familiar to the ancients, of sinking (consider Plato's Atlantis) takes on an extremely significant value today-facing climate change, the melting of ice and the consequent rise in sea level-not only from a scientific-experimental point of view, but also and above all from a theoretical and speculative one. From pre-Socratic philosophy to contemporary reflections, thought has constantly addressed the sea, its deepest meanings, the mythologies it suggests, and the rich symbolism it never stops offering. The aim of this issue of "Filosofia" is to retrace, in the richest possible way, the speculative trajectories provided by the sea to the philosophical eye. Possible lines of research on which the authors are invited to reflect are, among others, the following:-Which authors have reflected most philosophically on the theme of the sea?
