They clearly illustrate how the organization is performing, and provide management with the necessary information to make decisions for future improvements. This section provides a seamless and easy-to-follow set of guidelines of environmental policies and standards, a review of existing classifications of environmental indicators, and derives a selected list of EPIs, which are elaborated in the remaining chapters of this book.

Platform as a Service – A Conjoint Study on Consumers’ Preferences

PaaS, also known as cloud platform, offer an execution environment based on software platforms. To be competitive on the market, PaaS providers have to be aware of drivers of successful platforms and design or adjust their business models accordingly. Surprisingly, prior research has made little attempt to investigate consumers’ preferences on PaaS that influence developers’ choice on PaaS solutions. This paper examines this understudied issue through a conjoint study. First a comprehensive literature analysis on PaaS has been conducted in order to build the study design on a rigorous foundation. The conducted conjoint survey contained ten attributes together with 26 corresponding attribute levels and has been completed by 103 participants. Based on the results, a prioritized list of customers’ preferences for PaaS has been created.

Aggregating Price Models for Composite Services in Cloud Service Marketplaces

Since the complexity of services and their provisioning is increasing, eMPs need to handle the dynamic and automated creation of composite services, i.e. services which are yielded in part by using third-party services available on the marketplace. To meet this requirement, eMPs need a standardized machine readable description of service offerings. This paper presents an approach to define price models for services traded on eMPs, using a subset of the Unified Service Description Language (USDL). To enable composite service pricing, this paper introduces an approach on the aggregation of several price models into one price model and analyses the time complexity of the price aggregation algorithm presented.

Expressing Demands or Offers: How to Promote Volunteering Using Visual and Verbal Appeals
International Journal of Business Communication

But how to effectively persuade members to volunteer using visual communication? Research suggests that images are most persuasive when they demand something from the viewer. A demand is expressed through the depiction of a person who directly gazes at the viewer, whereas an offer is expressed through the depiction of a face with an averted gaze. Demands and offers can also be expressed verbally. A verbal demand is articulated through commands, whereas a verbal offer is conveyed through statements. This study examines whether NPOs should address their members using demands or offers and whether correspondence between image and text increases persuasion. An experiment among 205 members of a Swiss NPO finds that direct gaze images are most effective. However, image-text matching increases persuasion for campaigns that feature an averted gaze image.

The term denotes some of the latest developments in the Information and Communication Technology industry, which are significantly changing the way services are produced, consumed, and deployed. While companies are investing in the underlying technology of cloud-based platforms, the emphasis on business model innovation and rethinking the revenue streams falls behind. This study shows that current revenue streams of cloud-based platforms are unpretentious and follow simple patterns. Most cloud-based platform providers focus only on direct revenue streams, which are typically based upon subscription fees. Multi-sided business models and innovative ways of revenue generation are rarely present, even though the manner in which cloud platforms are commercialized is the deciding factor for the economic outcome.

These examples are contrasted with their equivalents from King James' Bible. The main aim is to conduct a quantitative analysis of selected circumlocutions. Moreover, possible grammatical structures for circumlocutions are analysed. Circumlocution is, in fact, an effective word formation process in Hawai'i Creole English since it allows its speakers to create new lexical items that can bridge lexical gaps in their lexicon.

EMs imply a new development paradigm based on the peer production philosophy and empower end users to create individual applications without the involvement of the IT department. So far, there is insufficient research on potential benefits of EMs. This paper contributes to fill this gap by designing an EM benefit model. By following the design science approach, the balance scorecard concept is leveraged to identify and structure potential benefits of EMs. By means of a laboratory experiment and a case study, the applicability of the designed benefit model is demonstrated.

However, the business market is interested in complete Grid solutions. Thus, a successful take up of Grid technology on the business market requires the establishment of Grid value networks. This again can only be achieved by implementation of sound business models for each player providing part of a Grid solution. This paper discusses the business models of providers of Grid-enabled applications. Keywords: Grid Business Models, Business Grids, Grid-enabled Application 1

This paper will present an overview of MEMPHIS focusing on its NL technologies.
