This situation, with increasing traffic in the downlink SSR channel, may lead to a too high number of superimposed, i.e. garbled, signals. The aim of this work is the need for reliable, simple effective algorithms to separate overlapped SSR signals. We proposed earlier some solutions [2,3], as well others can be found in the literature [5,6]. All of them require an array antenna at the receiver stations, while today's receiver stations are equipped with only one omni-directional antenna. In this paper, the sources separation algorithm based on array processing (PA: Projection Algorithm) is adapted to a single-antenna configuration, where the variation of carrier frequencies of different vehicular transponders [8] is exploited. Simulations with signals synthesized from real measurements give results that demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm in a frequency agility environment.

In areas with a high traffic density, these stations may receive simultaneously several superimposed signals. Present operational systems use only one receiving channel connected to a nondirectional antenna. When the received replies are superimposed, i.e. "garbled", their detection and/or decoding are severely affected in nowadays equipment. The aim of this paper is to transform the single channel problem into a multiple channels problem in order to solve it using specific knowledge about the Mode S signals. In fact, the multiple channels problem is a typical signals separation problem applied to Mode S mixture for which several algorithms already exist. Our algorithm, named PASA, is based on the existing Projection Algorithm [13] and can be easily implemented on existing receiving stations. The effectiveness of our method is demonstrated using real data collected from our experimental receiver.

AN MTD DIGITAL PROCESSOR FOR SURVEILLANCE RADAR WITH A BANK OF DOPPLER FILTERS AND SYSTEM OF THRESHOLDS BOTH SELECTABLE AND DEPENDENT ON THE INTERFERENCE

Both single-threshold detection (after coherent integration) and double threshold binary integration (moving window) are considered. The former case is analysed for both fixed and fluctuating targets. The largest sampling losses are found to occur for single threshold detection, fixed targets and large values (0.9¿0.95) of the detection probability. For a sampling period equal to the pulsewidth 7the losses range between 2.5 dB and 3 dB. On decreasing the sampling interval the losses quickly reduce: when two samples per pulse are taken, the losses are very close to 0.5 dB. The main application is in the radar area.
Need for Cognitive Closure Modulates How Perceptual Decisions Are Affected by Task Difficulty and Outcome Relevance

High levels of NCC are manifested in a preference for clarity, order and structure and a desire for firm and stable knowledge. The study evaluated how NCC moderates the impact of two variables known to increase the amount of cognitive effort invested on a task, namely task ambiguity (i.e., the difficulty of the perceptual discrimination) and outcome relevance (i.e., the monetary gain associated with a correct discrimination). Based on previous work and current design, we assumed that reaction times (RTs) on our motion discrimination task represent a valid index of effort investment. Task ambiguity was associated with increased cognitive effort in participants with low or medium NCC but, interestingly, it did not affect...
